1यानंतर येशू गालील प्रांतात फिरला. येशूला यहूदीया प्रांतातूल प्रवास करायला नको होता, कारण तेथील काही यहूदी लोकांना येशूला जिवे मारायचे होते.
1After these things, Jesus was walking in Galilee, for he wouldn't walk in Judea, because the Jews sought to kill him.
2यहूदी लोकांचा मंडपाचा सणजवळ आला होता.
2Now the feast of the Jews, the Feast of Booths, was at hand.
3म्हणून येशूचे भाऊ त्याला म्हणाले, “तू येथून सणासाठी यहूदीयात जा. म्हणजे तू करतोस ते चमत्कार तेथे तुझे शिष्य पाहू शकतील.
3His brothers therefore said to him, "Depart from here, and go into Judea, that your disciples also may see your works which you do.
4लोकांना माहिती व्हावी असे एखाघाला वाटत असेल तर त्याने तो करतो ती कामे लपवू नयेत. तू जगाला प्रगट हो. तू जे चमत्कार करतोस ते त्यांना पाहू दे.”
4For no one does anything in secret, and himself seeks to be known openly. If you do these things, reveal yourself to the world."
5येशूच्या भावांनीसुद्धा त्याच्यावर विश्वास ठेवला नाही.
5For even his brothers didn't believe in him.
6येशू आपल्या भावांना म्हणाला. ‘माझी योग्य वेळ अजून आलेली नाही. पण तुम्ही जाण्यासाठी मात्र कोणतीही वेळ योग्य असेल.
6Jesus therefore said to them, "My time has not yet come, but your time is always ready.
7जग तुमचा द्वेष करु शकत नाही. परंतु जग माझा द्वेष करते. कारण जगातील लोक वाईट कामे करतात हे मी त्यांना सांगातो.
7The world can't hate you, but it hates me, because I testify about it, that its works are evil.
8तेव्ह तुम्ही सणासाठी जा. मी आत्ताच सणाला येणार नाही. माझी योग्य वेळ अजून आली नाही.”
8You go up to the feast. I am not yet going up to this feast, because my time is not yet fulfilled."
9हे सांगितल्यानंतर येशू गालीलातच राहिला.
9Having said these things to them, he stayed in Galilee.
10म्हणून येशूचे भाऊ सणासाठी तेथून निघून गेले. ते गेल्यावर मग येशूही गेला. परंतु येशूने हे लोकांना उघडपणे दाखविले नाही.
10But when his brothers had gone up to the feast, then he also went up, not publicly, but as it were in secret.
11सणाच्या काळात यहूदी लोक येशूचा शोध करीत होते. यहूदी म्हणाले, “तो मनुष्य कोठे आहे?”
11The Jews therefore sought him at the feast, and said, "Where is he?"
12लोकांचा मोठा जमाव त्या ठिकाणी जमा झालेला होता. त्यांतील अनेक लोक येशूविषयी आपसांत बोलत होते. काही म्हणाले, “तो चांगला मनुष्य आहे.” परंतु दुसरे काहीजण म्हणाले, “नाही, तो लोकांना ठकवितो.”
12There was much murmuring among the multitudes concerning him. Some said, "He is a good man." Others said, "Not so, but he leads the multitude astray."
13परंतु लोकांपैकी कोणीच येशूविषयी उघडपणे बोलायला धजत नव्हते. लोकांन यहूदी पुढाऱ्यांची भीति वाटत होती.
13Yet no one spoke openly of him for fear of the Jews.
14अर्धअधिक सण पार पडला होता तेव्हा येशू मंदिरात गेला आणि तेथे लोकांना शिक्षण देण्यास त्याने सुरुवात केली.
14But when it was now the midst of the feast, Jesus went up into the temple and taught.
15यहूदी लोकांना मोठे आश्चर्य वाटले. ते म्हणाले, “हा माणूस शाळेत कधी शिकला नाही. हे एकढे तो कोठून शिकला?”
15The Jews therefore marveled, saying, "How does this man know letters, having never been educated?"
16येशूने उत्तर दिले, “मी ज्या गोष्टी शिकवितो त्या माझ्या स्वत:च्या नाहीत. माझी शिकवण मला पाठविणाऱ्या पित्याकडून आलेली आहे.
16Jesus therefore answered them, "My teaching is not mine, but his who sent me.
17जो देवाच्या इच्छेप्रमाणे करतो त्याला माझी शिकवण देवाकडून आहे हे कळेल. त्याला हे कळेल की, माझी शिकवण माझी स्वत:ची नाही.
17If anyone desires to do his will, he will know about the teaching, whether it is from God, or if I am speaking from myself.
18जो कोणी स्वत:च्या कल्पना शिकवितो, तो स्वत:ला मानसन्मान मिळावा असा प्रयत्न करतो, परंतु ज्याने मला पाठविले त्याचा सन्मान करण्याचा जो प्रयत्न करतो तोच माणूस सत्य सांगतो. त्याचे काहीच खोटे नसते.
18He who speaks from himself seeks his own glory, but he who seeks the glory of him who sent him, the same is true, and no unrighteousness is in him.
19मोशेने तुम्हांला नियमशास्त्र दिले. खरे ना? परंतु तुमच्यातील कोणी नियमशास्त्र पाळीत नाही. तुम्ही का बरे मला जिवे मारायला पाहता?”
19Didn't Moses give you the law, and yet none of you keeps the law? Why do you seek to kill me?"
20लोकांनी उत्तर दिले. “तुम्हांला भूत लागले आहे. आम्ही काही तुम्हांला जिवे मारण्याचा प्रयत्न करीत नाही.”
20The multitude answered, "You have a demon! Who seeks to kill you?"
21येशू त्यांना म्हणाला, “मी एक चमत्कार केला आणि तुम्ही सारे चकित झालात.
21Jesus answered them, "I did one work, and you all marvel because of it.
22मोशेने तुम्हांला सुंतेचा नियम दिला. परंतु खरे पाहता सुंता मोशेपासून आलेली नाही. ती मोशेच्या आधीच आपल्या पूर्वजांपासून चालत आलेली आहे. म्हणून कधी कधी शब्बाथ दिवशीही तुम्ही मुलांची सुंता करता.
22Moses has given you circumcision (not that it is of Moses, but of the fathers), and on the Sabbath you circumcise a boy.
23याचा अर्थ मोशेच्या नियमांचे पालन करण्यासाठी शब्बाथ दिवशीही बालकाची सुंता करता येते. मग मी शब्बाथ दिवशी एका माणसाचे संपूर्ण शरीर बरे केले तर तुम्ही माझ्यावर का रागावता?
23If a boy receives circumcision on the Sabbath, that the law of Moses may not be broken, are you angry with me, because I made a man every bit whole on the Sabbath?
24वरवर पाहून न्याय करु नका. तर खरोखर काय बरोबर आहे याची कसून शहानिशा करुन योग्य प्रकारे न्याय करा.”
24Don't judge according to appearance, but judge righteous judgment."
25मग यरुशलेमात राहणारे काही लोक म्हणाले, “याच माणसाला लोक जिवे मारण्याच्या प्रयत्नात आहेत.
25Therefore some of them of Jerusalem said, "Isn't this he whom they seek to kill?
26परंतु सर्व लोक आपल्याला पाहू आणि ऐकू शकतील अशा ठिकाणी हा शिक्षण देत आहे. आणि शिक्षण देताना त्याला थांबविण्याचा कोणीही प्रयत्न करीत नाही. कदाचित हा खरोखरच ख्रिस्त आहे असे पुढारी लोकांनी ठरविले असेल.
26Behold, he speaks openly, and they say nothing to him. Can it be that the rulers indeed know that this is truly the Christ?
27परंतु हा माणूस कोठून आला आहे हे आपल्याला माहीत आहे. आणि खरोखरचा ख्रिस्त येईल तेव्हा तो कोठून येईल हे कोणालाच कळणार नाही.’
27However we know where this man comes from, but when the Christ comes, no one will know where he comes from."
28अजूनही येशू मंदिरात शिक्षण देत होता. येशू म्हणाला, “होय, तुम्ही मला ओळखता आणि मी कोठला हेही तुम्हांला माहीत आहे. परंतु मी स्वत:च्या अधिकाराने आलो नाही. जो खरा देव आहे त्याने मला पाठविले. तुम्ही त्याला ओळखीत नाही.
28Jesus therefore cried out in the temple, teaching and saying, "You both know me, and know where I am from. I have not come of myself, but he who sent me is true, whom you don't know.
29पण मी त्याला ओळखतो. मी त्याच्याकडून आलो आणि त्यानेच मला पाठविले.”
29I know him, because I am from him, and he sent me."
30येशू हे बोलला तेव्हा लोकांनी त्याला धरण्याचा प्रयत्न केला, परंतु कोणीही त्याला धरु शकला नाही, कारण त्याला मारले जाण्याची वेळ अजून आली नव्हती.
30They sought therefore to take him; but no one laid a hand on him, because his hour had not yet come.
311परंतु लोकांपैकी पुष्कळ जणांनी येशूवर विश्वास ठेवला. लोक म्हणाले, “आम्ही ख्रिस्ताच्या येण्याची वाट पाहत आहोत. ख्रिस्त आला तर या मनुष्याने केले त्याहून जास्त चमत्कार तो करुन दाखवील काय? नाही! म्हणून हाच ख्रिस्त असला पाहिजे.”
31But of the multitude, many believed in him. They said, "When the Christ comes, he won't do more signs than those which this man has done, will he?"
32लोक येशूविषयी जे बोलत होते ते परुश्यांनी ऐकले. म्हणून मुख्य याजक आणि परुशी यांनी येशूला अटक करण्यासाठी मंदिराचे शिपाई पाठविले.
32The Pharisees heard the multitude murmuring these things concerning him, and the chief priests and the Pharisees sent officers to arrest him.
33मग येशू म्हणाला, “मी तुम्हा लोकांबरोबर आणखी थोडा काळ राहीन. नंतर ज्याने मला पाठविले, त्याच्याकडे मी परत जाईन.
33Then Jesus said, "I will be with you a little while longer, then I go to him who sent me.
34तुम्ही माझा शोध कराल पण मी तुम्हांला सापडणार नाही.”
34You will seek me, and won't find me; and where I am, you can't come."
35यहूदी आपापसात म्हणाले, “हा माणूस असा कोठे जाणार आहे की जेथे आपण त्याला शोधू शकणार नाही? ग्रीक शहरात राहणाऱ्या यहूदी लोकांकडे हा जाईल काय? तो तेथील ग्रीक लोकांना शिक्षण देईल काय?
35The Jews therefore said among themselves, "Where will this man go that we won't find him? Will he go to the Dispersion among the Greeks, and teach the Greeks?
36हा माणूस म्हणतो, ‘तुम्ही माझा शोध कराल परंतु मी तुम्हांला सापडणार नाही.’ तो असेही म्हणतो, ‘जेथे मी आहे तेथे तुम्ही येऊ शकत नाही.’ याचा अर्थकाय?”
36What is this word that he said, 'You will seek me, and won't find me; and where I am, you can't come?'"
37सणाचा शेवटचा दिवस आला. तो फार महत्वाचा दिवस होता. त्या दिवशी उभे राहून येशू मोठयाने म्हणाला, “ज्याला तहान लागली असेल त्याने माझ्याकडे यावे आणि प्यावे.
37Now on the last and greatest day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried out, "If anyone is thirsty, let him come to me and drink!
38जर कोणी माझ्यावर विश्वास ठेवील तर त्याच्या अंत:करणातून जिवंत पाण्याच्या नद्या वाहतील.” असे पवित्र शास्त्र सांगते.
38He who believes in me, as the Scripture has said, from within him will flow rivers of living water."
39येशू आत्म्याविषयी बोलत होता. लोकांना अजून पवित्र आत्मा देण्यात आला नव्हता. कारण येशू अजून मरण पावला नव्हता आणि गौरवात उठविला गेला नव्हता. परंतु नंतर येशूवर विश्वास ठेवणाऱ्या लोकांना तो मिळणार होता.
39But he said this about the Spirit, which those believing in him were to receive. For the Holy Spirit was not yet given, because Jesus wasn't yet glorified.
40येशूने सांगितलेल्या या गोष्टी लोकांनी ऐकल्या. काही लोक म्हणाले, “हा माणूस खरोखरच संदेष्टा आहे.
40Many of the multitude therefore, when they heard these words, said, "This is truly the prophet."
41दुसरे म्हणाले, “हा ख्रिस्त आहे.” तर दुसरे काहीजण म्हणाले, “ख्रिस्त हा गालील प्रांतातून येणार नाही.”
41Others said, "This is the Christ." But some said, "What, does the Christ come out of Galilee?
42पवित्र शास्त्रात असेही लिहिले आहे की, “ख्रिस्त दावीद राजाच्या घराण्यातून येईल.”
42Hasn't the Scripture said that the Christ comes of the seed of David, and from Bethlehem, the village where David was?"
43आणि पवित्र शास्त्रात असेही लिहिले आहे की, “दावीद राजा राहत असे त्या बेथलहेम गावातून ख्रिस्त येईल.” तेव्हा येशूमुळे लोकांचे एकमत होईना.
43So there arose a division in the multitude because of him.
44काहींना येशूला अटक करायचे होते पण तसा प्रयत्न कोणीच केला नाही.
44Some of them would have arrested him, but no one laid hands on him.
45मदिराचे शिपाई मुख्य याजकांकडे आणि परुश्यांकडे परत गेले. मुख्य याजकांनी व परुश्यांनी शिपायांना विचारले, “तुम्ही येशूला का आणले नाही?”
45The officers therefore came to the chief priests and Pharisees, and they said to them, "Why didn't you bring him?"
46मंदिराचे शिपाई म्हणाल, “तो बोलतो त्या गोष्टी कोणत्याही मानवी शब्दांपेक्षा महान आहेत!”
46The officers answered, "No man ever spoke like this man!"
47मग परुशी म्हणाले, “म्हणजे येशूने तुम्हांलासुद्धा मूर्ख बनविले!
47The Pharisees therefore answered them, "You aren't also led astray, are you?
48पुढाऱ्यांपैकी एकाने तरी येशूवर विश्वास ठेवला का? नाही! आम्हा परुश्यांपैकी एकाने तरी त्याच्यावर विश्वास ठेवला का? नाही!
48Have any of the rulers believed in him, or of the Pharisees?
49परंतु बाहेरच्या लोकांना नियसशास्त्राची माहिती नाही, त्यांच्यावर देवाचा कोप होईल!”
49But this multitude that doesn't know the law is accursed."
50परंतु त्या घोळक्यात निकदेम हजार होता. यापूर्वी हा निकदेमच येशूला भेटायला आला होतानिकदेम म्हणाला.
50Nicodemus (he who came to him by night, being one of them) said to them,
51“एखघा माणसाची बाजू ऐकून घेतल्याशिवाय त्याला आपल्या नियसशास्त्राप्रमाणे दोषी ठरवता येत नाही.” त्याने काय केले हे कळल्याशिवाय आपण त्याचा न्याय करु शकत नाही.”
51"Does our law judge a man, unless it first hears from him personally and knows what he does?"
52यहूदी पुढाऱ्यांनी उत्तर दिले, “तू सुद्धा गलील प्रांतामधील आहेस काय? पवित्र शास्त्र वाचून पाहा! गालीलातून एकही संदेष्टा येणार नाही. हे तुला कळेल.”
52They answered him, "Are you also from Galilee? Search, and see that no prophet has arisen out of Galilee."
53नंतर ते सर्व यहूदी पुढारी आपापल्या घरी गेले.
53Everyone went to his own house,
