काही काळानंतर परमेश्वराने अब्राहामाला पुन्हा दर्शन दिले. अब्राहाम तेव्हा मम्रेच्या एलोन झाडांच्या राईत राहात होता. एके दिवशी भर दुपारी कडक उन्हाच्या वेळी अब्राहाम आपल्या तंबूच्या दाराशी बसला होता.

Yahweh appeared to him by the oaks of Mamre, as he sat in the tent door in the heat of the day.

अब्राहामाने वर पाहिले तों आपल्या समोर तीन पुरुष उभे असलेले त्याला दिसले; त्यांना पाहून अब्राहाम धावत त्यांना सामोरा गेला आणि त्याने त्यांना लवून नमन केले;

He lifted up his eyes and looked, and saw that three men stood opposite him. When he saw them, he ran to meet them from the tent door, and bowed himself to the earth,

अब्राहाम त्यांचे स्वागत करुन म्हणाला, “माझ्या स्वामीनों, मी जो आपला सेवक त्या माझ्या सोबत कृपा करुन काही वेळ राहा;

and said, "My lord, if now I have found favor in your sight, please don't go away from your servant.
4
तुमचे पाय धुण्यासाठी मी पाणी घेऊन येतो; तुम्ही झाडा खाली सावलीत अमळ विसावा घ्या;
4
Now let a little water be fetched, wash your feet, and rest yourselves under the tree.
5
मी तुम्हासाठी थोडी भाकर आणतो; तुम्हाला पाहिजे तेवढे जेवा; मग पुढील प्रवास चालू करा.”ते तीन पुरुष म्हणाले, “बरं, हे तर ठीक आहे आम्ही तुझ्या म्हणण्याप्रमाणे करतो.”

I will get a morsel of bread so you can refresh your heart. After that you may go your way, now that you have come to your servant." They said, "Very well, do as you have said."

अब्राहाम लगेच घाईने पळत तंबूत गेला व साराला म्हणाला, “तिघांना तीन भाकरी पुरतील एवढे पीठ ताबडतोब मळ, त्याच्या भाकरी कर.”

Abraham hurried into the tent to Sarah, and said, "Quickly make ready three measures of fine meal, knead it, and make cakes."

नंतर अब्राहाम आपल्या गुरांच्या कळपाकडे पळत गेला, आणि त्यातून त्याने उत्तम कोवळे वासरु घेतले; ते दासाजवळ देऊन त्याने त्याला लवकर कापून जेवणासाठी रांधण्यास सांगितले;

Abraham ran to the herd, and fetched a tender and good calf, and gave it to the servant. He hurried to dress it.
8
अब्राहामाने त्या तीन पुरुषांना वासराचे शिजवलेले मांस, तसेच दूध व लोणी खाण्यासाठी त्यांच्यापुढे वाढले आणि त्यांचे जेवण संपेपर्यंत अब्राहाम राईत झाडाखाली त्यांच्या जवळ त्यांची सेवा करण्याकरीता उभा राहिला.

He took butter, milk, and the calf which he had dressed, and set it before them. He stood by them under the tree, and they ate.

ते पुरुष अब्राहामाला म्हणाले, “तुझी बायको सारा कोठे आहे?”अब्राहाम म्हणाला, “ती तंबूत आहे.”

They said to him, "Where is Sarah, your wife? He said, "See, in the tent."
10
मग परमेश्वर म्हणाला, “मी पुढल्या वसंत ऋ तूत येईन त्या वेळी तुझी बायको सारा हिला मुलगा होईल.”सारा तंबूच्या तोंडाशी उभी राहून कान देत होती म्हणून या गोष्टी तिने ऐकल्या.

He said, "I will certainly return to you when the season comes round. Behold, Sarah your wife will have a son." Sarah heard in the tent door, which was behind him.

अब्राहाम व सारा वयाने फार म्हातारे झाले होते. साराचे मुले होण्याजोगे वय निघून गेले होते.

Now Abraham and Sarah were old, well advanced in age. It had ceased to be with Sarah after the manner of women.
12
म्हणून साराने जे ऐकले त्यावर विश्वास ठेवला नाहीं. ती स्वत:शीच हसून म्हणाली, “मी म्हातारी झाली आहे, आणि माझा नवराही म्हातारा झाला आहे मी इतकी म्हातारी झाली आहे की आता मला मूल होणे शक्य नाही.”

Sarah laughed within herself, saying, "After I have grown old will I have pleasure, my lord being old also?"
13
तेव्हा परमेश्वर अब्राहामाला म्हणाला, “सारा का हसली? मी आता म्हातारी झाली आहे म्हणून मला मुलगा होईल काय असे ती का म्हणाली.

Yahweh said to Abraham, "Why did Sarah laugh, saying, 'Will I really bear a child, yet I am old?'
14
परमेश्वराला काही अशक्य आहे का? येत्या वसंतऋ तूत सांगितल्याप्रमाणे मी पुन्हा येईन तेव्हा तुझी बायको सारा हिला मुलगा होईल.”

Is anything too hard for Yahweh? At the set time I will return to you, when the season comes round, and Sarah will have a son."
15
परंतु सारा म्हणाली, “मी हसलेच नाही!” (ती असे म्हणाली कारण ती फार घाबरली होती.)परंतु परमेश्वर म्हणाला, “नाही, मला माहीत आहे की हे खरे नाहीं; तू नक्की हसलीसच.”

Then Sarah denied, saying, "I didn't laugh," for she was afraid." He said, "No, but you did laugh."
16
नंतर ते पुरुष उठले व सदोम नगराकडे वळून ते तिकडे जाण्यास निघाले; अब्राहाम त्यांना वाटेस लावण्यासाठी त्यांच्या बरोबर थोडा रस्ता चालून गेला.

The men rose up from there, and looked toward Sodom. Abraham went with them to see them on their way.
17
परमेश्वर आपणा स्वत:शीच बोलला, “मी आता जे काही करणार आहे त्या विषयी अब्राहामाला सांगावे काय?

Yahweh said, "Will I hide from Abraham what I do,
18
कारण अब्राहामापासून एक मोठे व शक्तीमान राष्ट्रे नक्की निर्माण होईल, आणि पृथ्वीवरील सगळी राष्ट्रे त्याच्यामुळे आशीर्वादित होतील.

seeing that Abraham has surely become a great and mighty nation, and all the nations of the earth will be blessed in him?
19
मी अब्राहामाबरोबर एक विशेष करार केलेला आहे, तो यासाठी की त्याने आपल्या मुलांना व वंशजाना देवाच्या इच्छेप्रमाणे चालण्याची आज्ञा करावी आणि त्यांनी न्यायनीतीने चालावे; मग मी परमेश्वर त्याला मी दिलेल्या वचनाप्रमाणे जे द्यायचे ते देईन.”

For I have known him, to the end that he may command his children and his household after him, that they may keep the way of Yahweh, to do righteousness and justice; to the end that Yahweh may bring on Abraham that which he has spoken of him."
20
मग परमेश्वर म्हणाला, “सदोम व गमोरा येथील लोक फार दुष्ट आहेत असे मी पुष्कळ वेळा ऐकले आहे.

Yahweh said, "Because the cry of Sodom and Gomorrah is great, and because their sin is very grievous,
21
म्हणून मी स्वत: प्रत्यक्ष जाऊन परिस्थीती पाहीन व मग त्यांची दुष्ट करणी ऐकल्याप्रमाणे खरोखर आहे की काय हे मला नक्की समजेल.”
21
I will go down now, and see whether they have done altogether according to the cry of it, which is come to me. If not, I will know."
22
मग ते पुरुष सदोमाकडे वळून चालू लागले, परंतु अब्राहाम परमेश्वरा पुढे तसाच उभा राहिला.
22
The men turned from there, and went toward Sodom, but Abraham stood yet before Yahweh.
23
मग अब्राहामाने परमेश्वराजवळ जाऊन विचारले, “परमेश्वर तू दुष्ट लोकांचा नाश करताना चांगल्या लोकांचाही नाश करणार काय?
23
Abraham drew near, and said, "Will you consume the righteous with the wicked?
24
आणि जर कदाचित त्या नगरात पन्नास लोक चांगले व नीतिमान असतील तर? तरी ही त्या नगराचा तू नाश करणार काय? तू खात्री ने नगरात राहाणाऱ्या पन्नास नीतिमान लोकांसाठी नगराचा बचाव करशील.

What if there are fifty righteous within the city? Will you consume and not spare the place for the fifty righteous who are therein?
25
तू नक्की नगराचा नाश करणार नाहीस; दुष्ट लोकांना मारण्यासाठी तू पन्नास नीतिमान लोकंना मारणार नाहीस; आणि जर तसे झाले तर मग चांगले व वाईट अशा लोकांची गत सारखीच होणार; त्या दोन्ही प्रकारच्या लोकांना शिक्षा होणार; तू सर्व पृथ्वीचा न्यायाधीश आहेस, तू योग्य तेच करशील हे मला माहीत आहे.”
25
Be it far from you to do things like that, to kill the righteous with the wicked, that so the righteous should be as the wicked. May that be far from you. Shouldn't the Judge of all the earth do right?"
26
नंतर परमेश्वर बोलला, “या सदोम शहरात मला पन्नास चांगले लोक आढळले तर त्यांच्यासाठी मी संपूर्ण शहराची गय करीन, व सर्व शहर वाचवीन.”

Yahweh said, "If I find in Sodom fifty righteous within the city, then I will spare all the place for their sake."
27
मग अब्राहाम म्हणाला, “हे प्रभु, तुझ्या तुलनेने मी केवळ धूळ व राख आहे, तरी तुला एक प्रश्न विचारु दे;
27
Abraham answered, "See now, I have taken it on myself to speak to the Lord, who am but dust and ashes.
28
समजा कदाचित् जर पाच लोक कमी असतील म्हणजे फक्त पंचेचाळीसच चांगले लोक असतील तर? त्या पाच कमी असलेल्या लोकांकरिता तू सर्व नगराचा नाश करशील काय?”परमेश्वर म्हणाला, “मला पंचेचाळीस लोक चांगले आढळले तर मी नगराचा नाश करणार नाही.”

What if there will lack five of the fifty righteous? Will you destroy all the city for lack of five?" He said, "I will not destroy it, if I find forty-five there."
29
पुन्हा अब्राहाम परमेश्वराला म्हणाला, “आणि जर तेथे तुला चाळीसच चांगले लोक आढळले तर? संपूर्ण शहराचा तू नाश करशील काय?”परमेश्वर म्हणाला, “जर मला चाळीसच लोक चांगले आढळले तर मी शहराचा नाश करणार नाही.”

He spoke to him yet again, and said, "What if there are forty found there?" He said, "I will not do it for the forty's sake."
30
मग अब्राहाम म्हणाला, “प्रभु, कृपा करुन माझ्या बोलण्याचा तुला राग न यावा; मला आणखी विचारण्याची परवानगी असावी; तेथे फक्त तीसच लोक चांगले असतील तर? तू त्या नगराचा नाश करशील काय?”परमेश्वर म्हणाला, “जर तीस चांगले लोक असतील तर मी तसे करणार नाही.”

He said, "Oh don't let the Lord be angry, and I will speak. What if there are thirty found there?" He said, "I will not do it, if I find thirty there."
31
मग अब्राहाम म्हणाला, “प्रभु, थोडा त्रास देऊन पुन्हा विचारु का? समजा तेथे कदचित् वीसच लोक चांगले असतील तर?परमेश्वराने उत्तर दिले, “जर तेथे वीसच लोक चांगले असतील तर त्या वीसा करिता मी नगराचा नाश करणार नाही.”

He said, "See now, I have taken it on myself to speak to the Lord. What if there are twenty found there?" He said, "I will not destroy it for the twenty's sake."
32
अब्राहाम म्हणाला, “प्रभु, कृपा करुन माझ्यावर रागावू नकोस, परंतु शेवटी एकदाच थोडा त्रासदायक प्रश्न विचारण्यास परवानगी असावी, कदाचित् तुला तेथे दहाच लोक चांगले आढळले तर तू काय करशील?”परमेश्वर म्हणाला, “जर मला नगरात दहाच लोक चांगले आढळले तर त्या दहाकरिता मी नगराचा नाश करणार नाहीं.”

He said, "Oh don't let the Lord be angry, and I will speak yet but this once. What if ten are found there?" He said, "I will not destroy it for the ten's sake."
33
मग अब्राहामाशी बोलणे संपविल्यावर परमेश्वर निघून गेला आणि अब्राहाम आपल्या तंबूकडे परत गेला.

Yahweh went his way, as soon as he had finished communing with Abraham, and Abraham returned to his place.
