1आता दावीदाचे बरेच वय झाले होते. तेव्हा त्याने आपला मुलगा शलमोन याला इस्राएलचा राजा केले.
1Now David was old and full of days; and he made Solomon his son king over Israel.
2इस्राएलमधील सर्व पुढारी मंडळी, याजक आणि लेवी यांना दावीदाने बोलावून घेतले.
2He gathered together all the princes of Israel, with the priests and the Levites.
3तीस आणि त्याहून अधिक वय असलेल्या लेवींची त्याने गणना केली. तसे एकंदर 38,000 लेवी होते.
3The Levites were numbered from thirty years old and upward: and their number by their polls, man by man, was thirty-eight thousand.
4दावीद म्हणाला, “यांच्यापैकी 24,000 लेवी परमेश्वरच्या मंदिराच्या कामावर देखरेख करतील. 6,000 अंमलदार आणि न्यायाधीश म्हणून काम करतील.
4Of these, twenty-four thousand were to oversee the work of the house of Yahweh; and six thousand were officers and judges;
54,000 द्वारपाल होतील आणि 4,000 देवांची स्तुतिगीते गातील. त्यांच्यासाठी मी खास वाद्ये करवून घेतली आहेत. त्यांच्या साथीवर ते देवाची स्तुती करतील.”
5and four thousand were doorkeepers; and four thousand praised Yahweh with the instruments which I made, said David, for giving praise.

6David divided them into divisions according to the sons of Levi: Gershon, Kohath, and Merari.

7Of the Gershonites: Ladan and Shimei.
8लादान याला तीन मुले. यहीएल हा थोरला. नंतर जेथाम व योएल.
8The sons of Ladan: Jehiel the chief, and Zetham, and Joel, three.
9शिमीचे मुलगे असे शलोमोथ, हजिएल व हरान. लादानच्या घराण्यांचे हे प्रमुख होते.
9The sons of Shimei: Shelomoth, and Haziel, and Haran, three. These were the heads of the fathers' houses of Ladan.
10शिमीला चार मुलगे. यहथ, जीजा, यऊश आणि बरीया.
10The sons of Shimei: Jahath, Zina, and Jeush, and Beriah. These four were the sons of Shimei.
11यरथ हा त्यांपैकी मोठा, दुसरा जीजा. यऊश आणि बरीया यांना मात्र फार संतती नव्हती त्यामुळे त्यांचे दोघांचे मिळून एकच घराणे धरले जाई.
11Jahath was the chief, and Zizah the second: but Jeush and Beriah didn't have many sons; therefore they became a fathers' house in one reckoning.
12कहाथला चार मुलगे होते: अम्राम, इसहार, इब्रोन आणि उज्जियेल.
12The sons of Kohath: Amram, Izhar, Hebron, and Uzziel, four.
13अहरोन आणि मोशे हे अम्रामचे मुलगे: अहरोन आणि त्याच्या वंशजाची खास कामाकरता निवड केली गेली होती. परमेश्वराच्या उपासनेच्या पवित्र कामाच्या तयारीसाठी त्यांना कायमचे वेगळे काढले गेले होते. परमेश्वरापुढे धूप जाळणे, परमेश्वराचे याजक म्हणून सेवा करणे, परमेश्वराच्या वतीने लोकांना आशीर्वाद देणे अशी त्यांची कामे होती.
13The sons of Amram: Aaron and Moses; and Aaron was separated, that he should sanctify the most holy things, he and his sons, forever, to burn incense before Yahweh, to minister to him, and to bless in his name, forever.
14मोशे हा देवाचा संदेष्टा होता. त्याचे मुलगे लेवीच्या वंशातच गणले जात.
14But as for Moses the man of God, his sons were named among the tribe of Levi.
15गेर्षोम आणि अलियेजर हे मोशचे मुलगे.
15The sons of Moses: Gershom and Eliezer.
16शबुएल हा गेर्षोमचा मोठा मुलगा.
16The sons of Gershom: Shebuel the chief.
17रहब्या हा अलियेजरचा मोठा मुलगा. हा एकुलता एक होता. रहब्याला मात्र बरीच मुले झाली.
17The sons of Eliezer were: Rehabiah the chief; and Eliezer had no other sons; but the sons of Rehabiah were very many.
18शलोमीथ हा इसहारचा पहिला मुलगा.
18The sons of Izhar: Shelomith the chief.
19हेब्रोनचे मुलगे याप्रमाणे: यरीया मोठा, अमऱ्या दुसरा, यहजिएल तिसरा, यकमाम चौथा.
19The sons of Hebron: Jeriah the chief, Amariah the second, Jahaziel the third, and Jekameam the fourth.
20उज्जियेलचे मुलगे: पहिला मीखा आणि नंतरचा इश्शिया.
20The sons of Uzziel: Micah the chief, and Isshiah the second.
21महली आणि मूशी हे मरारीचे मुलगे. एलाजार आणि कीश हे महलीचे मुलगे.
21The sons of Merari: Mahli and Mushi. The sons of Mahli: Eleazar and Kish.
22एलाजारला मुलीच झाल्या त्याला पुत्र नव्हता. या मुलींचे विवाह नात्यातच झाले. त्या लग्न होऊन कीशच्या घराण्यात गेल्या.
22Eleazar died, and had no sons, but daughters only: and their brothers the sons of Kish took them to wife.
23मूशीचे मुलगे: महली, एदर आणि यरेमोथ.
23The sons of Mushi: Mahli, and Eder, and Jeremoth, three.
24हे झाले लेवीचे वंशज आपापल्या घराण्यांप्रमाणे त्यांची शिरगणती झाली. ते घराण्यांचे प्रमुख होते. त्यांच्यापैकी प्रत्येकाच्या नावाची नोंद झालेली आहे. जे वीस किंवा त्याहून अधिक वयाचे होते त्यांनी परमेवराच्या मंदिरात सेवा करणे हे त्यांचे काम.
24These were the sons of Levi after their fathers' houses, even the heads of the fathers' houses of those of those who were counted, in the number of names by their polls, who did the work for the service of the house of Yahweh, from twenty years old and upward.
25दावीद म्हणाला, “इस्राएलचा देव परमेश्वर याच्यामुळे लोकांना शांती लाभली आहे. परमेश्वर यरुशलेमला कायमच्या वास्तव्यासाठी आला आहे.
25For David said, Yahweh, the God of Israel, has given rest to his people; and he dwells in Jerusalem forever:
26तेव्हा लेवींना पवित्र निवासमंडप आणि उपासनेतील इतर उपकरणे सतत बाळगण्याची गरज नाही.”
26and also the Levites shall no more have need to carry the tent and all the vessels of it for the service of it.
27लेवी कुळतील वंशजांची मोजदाद करणे ही दावीदाची इस्राएल लोकांना अखेरची आज्ञा होती. त्यानुसार वीस वर्षे आणि त्यापुढील वयाच्या माणसांची शिरगणती झाली.
27For by the last words of David the sons of Levi were numbered, from twenty years old and upward.
28अहरोनच्या वंशजांना परमेश्वराच्या मंदीरातील सेवेत मदत करणे हे लेवींचे काम होते. मंदिराचे आवार आणि बाजूच्या खोल्या यांची देखभाल ही त्यांच्याकडे होती. मंदिरातील सर्व पवित्र गोष्टी शुचिर्भूत ठेवणे ही त्यांची जबाबदारी होती. देवाच्या मंदिरातील हे काम ते करत असत.
28For their office was to wait on the sons of Aaron for the service of the house of Yahweh, in the courts, and in the chambers, and in the purifying of all holy things, even the work of the service of the house of God;
29मंदिरातील विशेष भाकरी मेजावर ठेवणे, पीठ, धान्यार्पण करण्याच्या वस्तू बेखमीर भाकरी यावर त्यांची देखरेख होती. याखेरीज, तव्यावर भाजलेले, मळलेले सर्व काही सिध्द करणे, मोजून मापून त्या वंस्तूची तयारी करणे हे ही काम त्यांच्याकडे होते.
29for the show bread also, and for the fine flour for a meal-offering, whether of unleavened wafers, or of that which is baked in the pan, or of that which is soaked, and for all manner of measure and size;
30ते रोज सकाळ-संध्याकाळ परमेश्वराचे आभार मानायला आणि त्याची स्तुती करायला उभे राहत.
30and to stand every morning to thank and praise Yahweh, and likewise in the evening;
31शब्बाथच्या दिवशी, नवचंद्र दर्शन आणि सणावाराला देवाची होमार्पणे ते तयार करत. नित्य आराधनाही त्यांच्याकडेच होती. एका वेळी किती लेवींनी हे करायचे याचे नियम घालून दिलेले होते.
31and to offer all burnt offerings to Yahweh, on the Sabbaths, on the new moons, and on the set feasts, in number according to the ordinance concerning them, continually before Yahweh;
32त्यांना नेमून दिल्याप्रमाणे ते वागत. पवित्र निवासमंडपाची देखभाल करत. पवित्र स्थानाचा संभाळ करत. आपले आप्त. याजक आणि अहरोनचे वंशज यांना ते सहाय्य करत. याजकांना ते परमेश्वरच्या मंदिराच्या सेवेत मदत करत.
32and that they should keep the charge of the tent of meeting, and the charge of the holy place, and the charge of the sons of Aaron their brothers, for the service of the house of Yahweh.
