1યહોવા શા માટે વરસાદને રોકી રાખતા હતાં તે સમજાવતો આ વચન, યહોવા તરફથી યમિર્યા પાસે આવ્યું:
1The word of Yahweh that came to Jeremiah concerning the drought.
2“યહૂદિયા શોકમાં છે, તેનાં નગરો મરવા પડ્યા છે, તેનાં માણસો દુ:ખના માર્યા ભૂમિ પર ઢળી પડ્યા છે. યરૂશાલેમમાંથી મદદ માટે પોકાર ઊઠે છે.
2Judah mourns, and the gates of it languish, they sit in black on the ground; and the cry of Jerusalem is gone up.
3ધનવાનો પોતાના ચાકરોને પાણી લાવવા માટે ટાંકા પાસે મોકલે છે, પણ તેમાં પાણી હોતું નથી. તેઓ ખાલી ઘડા લઇને પાછા ફરે છે; ચાકરો સંતાપથી અને હતાશ થઇનેં દુ:ખને કારણે પોતાનાં માથાં ઢાંકે છે.
3Their nobles send their little ones to the waters: they come to the cisterns, and find no water; they return with their vessels empty; they are disappointed and confounded, and cover their heads.
4વરસાદ વિના ધરતી સુકાઇ ગઇ છે. અને તેમાં તિરાડો પડી છે. ખેડૂતો હેબતાઇ ગયા છે. તેઓ પોતાનાં ચેહરા છુપાવે છે.
4Because of the ground which is cracked, because no rain has been in the land, the plowmen are disappointed, they cover their heads.
5ઘાસની અછતને કારણે હરણી પણ પોતાનાં તાજાં જન્મેલા બચ્ચાંનો ત્યાગ કરે છે.
5Yes, the hind also in the field calves, and forsakes her young, because there is no grass.
6જંગલી ગધેડાં ઉજ્જડ ટેકરા પર ઊભાં ઊભાં શિયાળવાની જેમ હવાને માટે હાંફે છે. તેમની આંખે જાંખ વળે છે અને અંધારા આવે છે. કારણ કે, તેઓને ખાવા માટે ઘાસ નથી.”
6The wild donkeys stand on the bare heights, they pant for air like jackals; their eyes fail, because there is no herbage.
7લોકો કહે છે, “અમારા પાપો અમારી વિરુદ્ધ સાક્ષી પૂરે છે, તેમ છતાં, હે યહોવા, તારા નામ ખાતર કઇંક કર; અમે અનેકવાર તારો ત્યાગ કર્યો છે, અમે તારી વિરુદ્ધ પાપ કર્યું છે.
7Though our iniquities testify against us, work you for your name's sake, Yahweh; for our backslidings are many; we have sinned against you.
8હે યહોવા, ઇસ્રાએલની એક માત્ર આશા, સંકટ સમયના તારણહાર, તું અમારા દેશમાં પારકા જેવો કેમ છે? એક રાત માટે મુકામ કરતા વટેમાર્ગુ જેવો કેમ થઇ ગયો છે?
8You hope of Israel, the Savior of it in the time of trouble, why should you be as a foreigner in the land, and as a wayfaring man who turns aside to stay for a night?
9તમે પણ શું મૂંઝવણમાં છો? અમારો બચાવ કરવા શું તમે નિ:સહાય છો? હે યહોવા, તમે અહીં અમારી મધ્યે છો અને અમે તમારું નામ ધારણ કરીએ છીએ; અમે તમારા લોક છીએ. હે યહોવા, હવે અમારો ત્યાગ કરશો નહિ!”
9Why should you be like a scared man, as a mighty man who can't save? yet you, Yahweh, are in the midst of us, and we are called by your name; don't leave us.
10યહોવા આ લોકો વિષે કહે છે, “એ લોકોને ભટકવામાં એટલો આનંદ આવે છે કે, તેઓ પોતાના પગને કાબૂમાં રાખી શકતાં નથી; આથી હું એમના પર પ્રસન્ન નથી. હું હમણા તેમના અપરાધો, ને તેમનાં પાપોની સજા કરનાર છું.”
10Thus says Yahweh to this people, Even so have they loved to wander; they have not refrained their feet: therefore Yahweh does not accept them; now will he remember their iniquity, and visit their sins.
11ત્યારબાદ યહોવાએ મને કહ્યું, “મને આ લોકોને મદદ કરવાનું કહેવા માટે થઇને મારી પ્રાર્થના કરીશ નહિ.
11Yahweh said to me, Don't pray for this people for their good.
12એ લોકો ઉપવાસ કરશે તોયે, હું એમની પ્રાર્થના સાંભળનાર નથી. તેઓ મને દહનાર્પણ અને ખાદ્યાર્પણ ચઢાવે તોયે, હું પ્રસન્ન થનાર નથી. હું તેમનો યુદ્ધ દુકાળ, અને રોગચાળાથી અંત લાવીશ.”
12When they fast, I will not hear their cry; and when they offer burnt offering and meal-offering, I will not accept them; but I will consume them by the sword, and by the famine, and by the pestilence.
13પણ મેં કહ્યું, “અરે મારા પ્રભુ યહોવા, અહીયાં પ્રબોધકો તો તેમને એમ કહે છે કે, ‘તમારે યુદ્ધ જોવું નહિ પડે કે દુકાળ વેઠવો નહિ પડે. આ દેશમાં સદા શાંતિ અને સલામતી રહેશે.”‘
13Then said I, Ah, Lord Yahweh! behold, the prophets tell them, You shall not see the sword, neither shall you have famine; but I will give you assured peace in this place.
14ત્યારે યહોવાએ કહ્યું, “પ્રબોધકો મારે નામે જૂઠાણું ચલાવે છે. મેં એમને મોકલ્યા નથી, મેં એમને કોઇ આજ્ઞા આપી નથી. તે પ્રબોધકો તમને ખોટાં સંદર્શનો, નકામી આગાહીઓ અને પોતાનાં ભ્રામક દિવ્યસ્વપ્નો સંભળાવે છે.
14Then Yahweh said to me, The prophets prophesy lies in my name; I didn't send them, neither have I commanded them, neither spoke I to them: they prophesy to you a lying vision, and divination, and a thing of nothing, and the deceit of their own heart.
15તેથી યહોવા કહે છે, મેં મોકલ્યા નહોતાં છતાં જે જૂઠાં પ્રબોધકો મારા નામે ભવિષ્ય ભાખે છે અને કહે છે કે, ‘આ દેશમાં યુદ્ધ થાય કે દુકાળ પડે એમ નથી.’ તેમના સંબંધમાં મારાં વચન આ પ્રમાણે છે: એ પ્રબોધકો તરવાર અને દુકાળનો ભોગ બનશે.
15Therefore thus says Yahweh concerning the prophets who prophesy in my name, and I didn't send them, yet they say, Sword and famine shall not be in this land: By sword and famine shall those prophets be consumed.
16જે લોકોને પ્રબોધકો ભવિષ્યવાણી સંભળાવે છે, તેમની પત્નીઓ, પુત્રો અને પુત્રીઓ સહિત તરવાર અને દુકાળના ભોગ બની તેઓ યરૂશાલેમના રસ્તાઓ પર ફેંકાઇ જશે. કોઇ તેમને દફનાવનાર પણ નહિ હોય. હું તેમને દુષ્ટતાના ફળ ચખાડીશ.”
16The people to whom they prophesy shall be cast out in the streets of Jerusalem because of the famine and the sword; and they shall have none to bury them-them, their wives, nor their sons, nor their daughters: for I will pour their wickedness on them.
17યહોવાએ મને કહ્યું, “તારે લોકોની આગળ આ પ્રમાણે કહેવું; ‘મારી આંખોમાંથી દિનરાત અવિરત અશ્રુધારા વહ્યા કરો, કારણ, મારી પ્રજા દારૂણ આઘાતથી ઘવાઇને ઢળી પડી છે.
17You shall say this word to them, Let my eyes run down with tears night and day, and let them not cease; for the virgin daughter of my people is broken with a great breach, with a very grievous wound.
18જો હું ખેતરોમાં જાઉં છું, તો યુદ્ધમાં તરવારથી માર્યા ગયેલાઓનાં મૃતદેહો ત્યાં પડ્યા છે; જો હું શહેરમાં જાઉં છું, તો ત્યાં લોકોને દુકાળથી પીડાતાં જોઉં છું. પ્રબોધકો અને યાજકો સુદ્ધાં આમ તેમ ભટક્યા કરે છે. શું કરવું તે તેમને સૂઝતું નથી!”‘
18If I go forth into the field, then, behold, the slain with the sword! and if I enter into the city, then, behold, those who are sick with famine! for both the prophet and the priest go about in the land, and have no knowledge.
19લોકો કહે છે, “હે યહોવા, શું તમે યહૂદિયાને સંપૂર્ણ પણે તજી દીધું છે? શું તમે યરૂશાલેમને ધિક્કારો છો? શું શિક્ષા પછી પણ ત્યાં શાંતિ નહિ સ્થપાય? તે અમને સાજાપણું આપશે તથા અમારા ઘા પર પાટા બાંધશે એવું અમે માનતા હતા. પરંતુ શાંતિ સ્થપાઇ નહિ અને સર્વત્ર ફકત સંકટ અને ત્રાસ જ જોવા મળે છે.
19Have you utterly rejected Judah? has your soul loathed Zion? why have you struck us, and there is no healing for us? We looked for peace, but no good came; and for a time of healing, and, behold, dismay!
20હે યહોવા, અમે અમારી દુષ્ટતા અને અમારા પૂર્વજોના અપરાધ કબૂલ કરીએ છીએ; અમે પોતે પણ તારી વિરુદ્ધ પાપો આચર્યા છે.
20We acknowledge, Yahweh, our wickedness, and the iniquity of our fathers; for we have sinned against you.
21તારા નામની ખાતર અમારો ત્યાગ ના કરીશ, તારા ગૌરવ પ્રતાપી સિંહાસન યરૂશાલેમને બેઆબરૂ ના કરીશ. અમારી સાથેના તારા કરારનું સ્મરણ કર, તેનો ભંગ કરીશ નહિ.
21Do not abhor us, for your name's sake; do not disgrace the throne of your glory: remember, don't break your covenant with us.
22બીજી પ્રજાઓમાંના જૂઠા દેવોમાંથી કયો વિદેશી દેવ વરસાદ લાવી શકે? અથવા આકાશ પોતાની જાતે ઝાપટાં વરસાવી શકે, હે યહોવા, અમારા દેવ, માત્ર તમે જ તેમ કરી શકો છો. તેથી મદદ માટે અમે તમારી જ આશા રાખીશું.”
22Are there any among the vanities of the nations that can cause rain? or can the sky give showers? Aren't you he, Yahweh our God? therefore we will wait for you; for you have made all these things.
