1યહૂદાના રાજા યહોશાફાટના શાસન દરમ્યાન અઢારમાં વષેર્ આહાબનો પુત્ર યહોરામ સમરૂનમાં ઇસ્રાએલનો રાજા થયો, અને તેણે બાર વર્ષ રાજય કર્યુ.
1Now Jehoram the son of Ahab began to reign over Israel in Samaria in the eighteenth year of Jehoshaphat king of Judah, and reigned twelve years.
2તેણે યહોવાને નારાજ કરે તેવો કામો કાર્યા હતા, જો કે તેના કાર્યો એ છેક એના માંતા પિતાના કાર્યો જેવા નહોતા, કારણ, એણે એના પિતાએ ઊભુ કરેલુ બઆલનું પૂતળું પૂજાસ્થળેથી કાઢી નાખ્યુ હતું.
2He did that which was evil in the sight of Yahweh, but not like his father, and like his mother; for he put away the pillar of Baal that his father had made.
3તેમ છતાં તે નબાટના પુત્ર યરોબઆમ જેણે ઇસ્રાએલી લોકોને પાપ કરવા માંટે પ્રોત્સાહન આપ્યું હતું -તેના પાપને વળગી રહ્યો.
3Nevertheless he cleaved to the sins of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, with which he made Israel to sin; he didn't depart from it.
4મોઆબનો રાજા મેશા ઘેટાં ઉછેરતો હતો, અને તે ઇસ્રાએલના રાજાને નિયમિત એક લાખ ઘેટાંનાં બચ્ચાં અને એક લાખ ઘેટાનું ઊન વસુલીરૂપે આપતો હતો.
4Now Mesha king of Moab was a sheep-master; and he rendered to the king of Israel the wool of one hundred thousand lambs, and of one hundred thousand rams.
5જયારે આહાબ મૃત્યુ પામ્યો ત્યારે મોઆબના રાજાએ ઇસ્રાએલના રાજા સામે બળવો કર્યો,
5But it happened, when Ahab was dead, that the king of Moab rebelled against the king of Israel.
6એટલે યહોરામ રાજાએ સમરૂનથી બહાર નીકળીને ઇસ્રાએલના બધા માંણસોને યુદ્ધ માંટે ભેગા કર્યાં.
6King Jehoram went out of Samaria at that time, and mustered all Israel.
7પછી તેણે યહૂદાના રાજાને સંદેશો મોકલ્યો કે, “મોઆબના રાજાએ માંરી સામે બળવો કર્યો છે. મોઆબ પર હુમલો કરવામાં તમે મને સાથ આપશો?”તેણે જવાબ આપ્યો, “જરૂર, આપણે બે કંઈ જુદા નથી; માંરા સૈનિકો એ તમાંરા જ સૈનિકો છે, માંરા ઘોડા એ તમાંરા જ ઘોડા છે.
7He went and sent to Jehoshaphat the king of Judah, saying, The king of Moab has rebelled against me: will you go with me against Moab to battle? He said, I will go up: I am as you are, my people as your people, my horses as your horses.
8તેણે પૂછયું, “આપણે હુમલો કરવા ક્યો રસ્તો લેવો જોઇએ?”યહોરામે જવાબ આપ્યો, “અદોમના રણમાંથી પસાર થતો રસ્તો.”
8He said, Which way shall we go up? He answered, The way of the wilderness of Edom.
9આમ, ઇસ્રાએલનો રાજા યહોરામ યહૂદાના રાજા અને અદોમના રાજાને સાથે લઈ યુદ્ધે ચડયો. સાત દિવસ સુધી ચકરાવાવાળે રસ્તે કૂચ કર્યા પછી લશ્કર માંટે કે સરસામાંન ઉપાડતાં જાનવરો માંટે પાણી ખૂટી ગયું.
9So the king of Israel went, and the king of Judah, and the king of Edom; and they made a circuit of seven days' journey: and there was no water for the host, nor for the animals that followed them.
10ત્યારે ઇસ્રાએલનો રાજા બોલી ઊઠયો કે, “અફસોસ! યહોવાએ આપણને ત્રણ રાજાઓને મોઆબીઓના હાથમાં સોંપી દેવા માંટે જ ભેગાં કર્યા છે!”
10The king of Israel said, Alas! for Yahweh has called these three kings together to deliver them into the hand of Moab.
11પણ યહોશાફાટે કહ્યું, “અહીં કોઈ યહોવાનો પ્રબોધક નથી કે, જેના માંરફતે આપણે યહોવાને પ્રશ્ર્ન કરી શકીએ?”ઇસ્રાએલના રાજાના એક અમલદારે કહ્યું, “એલિશા અહીં છે, તે શાફાટનો પુત્ર હતો, જે એલિયાની સેવામાં રહેતો હતો.”
11But Jehoshaphat said, Isn't there here a prophet of Yahweh, that we may inquire of Yahweh by him? One of the king of Israel's servants answered, Elisha the son of Shaphat is here, who poured water on the hands of Elijah.
12યહૂદાના રાજાએ કહ્યું, “યહોવા તેના દ્વારા બોલે છે.” આથી ઇસ્રાએલનો રાજા, યહોશાફાટ અને અદોમનો રાજા તેની પાસે ગયા.
12Jehoshaphat said, The word of Yahweh is with him. So the king of Israel and Jehoshaphat and the king of Edom went down to him.
13પણ એલિશાએ ઇસ્રાએલના રાજાને કહ્યું કે, “માંરી પાસે તમાંરું શું છે? તમે તમાંરા માંતા પિતાના જૂઠા પ્રબોધકો પાસે જાઓ.”ઇસ્રાએલના રાજાએ તેને કહ્યું કે, “ના! યહોવાએ અમને ત્રણ રાજાઓને મોઆબીઓના હાથમાં સોંપી દેવા માંટે જ બોલાવ્યા છે!”
13Elisha said to the king of Israel, What have I to do with you? get you to the prophets of your father, and to the prophets of your mother. The king of Israel said to him, No; for Yahweh has called these three kings together to deliver them into the hand of Moab.
14એલિશાએ કહ્યું, “હું જેમની સેવા કરું છું તે સર્વસમર્થ યહોવાના સમ, યહૂદાના રાજા યહોશાફાટ પ્રત્યે મને માંન છે, તેથી જ હું તમાંરા ભણી જોઉં છું નહિ તો મેં નજર સરખી કરી ના હોત.
14Elisha said, As Yahweh of Hosts lives, before whom I stand, surely, were it not that I regard the presence of Jehoshaphat the king of Judah, I would not look toward you, nor see you.
15હવે કોઈ વીણા વગાડનારને માંરી પાસે લઈ આવો.”અને બન્યું એવું કે જ્યારે વીણા વગાડનારે વીણા વગાડવા માંડી એટલે યહોવાની શકિત એલિશામાં આવી.
15But now bring me a minstrel. It happened, when the minstrel played, that the hand of Yahweh came on him.
16અને તે બોલ્યો, “આ યહોવાનાં શબ્દો છે: આ ખીણને ખાડાંથી ભરી દો.
16He said, Thus says Yahweh, Make this valley full of trenches.
17તમે બધા વરસાદ કે પવન જોવા પામશો નહિ; પણ આ કોતર પાણીથી ભરાઈ જશે. અને તેમાં તમે, તમાંરું લશ્કર અને જાનવરો માંટે પીવા પૂરતું પાણી હશે.
17For thus says Yahweh, You shall not see wind, neither shall you see rain; yet that valley shall be filled with water, and you shall drink, both you and your cattle and your animals.
18પણ આ યહોવાની દ્રષ્ટિએ જાણે ઓછું હોય તેમ તે મોઆબને જ તમાંરા હાથમાં સોંપી દેશે.
18This is but a light thing in the sight of Yahweh: he will also deliver the Moabites into your hand.
19તમે તેમનાં બધાં જ સારા સારા અને કિલ્લેબંદીવાળા નગરોને ભોંયભેગા કરી નાખશો, બધાં જ સારા વૃક્ષોને કાપી નાખશો, બધાં જ ઝરણાંને પૂરી દેશો, અને પ્રત્યેક ખેતરને તેમાં પથ્થર નાખીને નકામાં બનાવી દેશો.”
19You shall strike every fortified city, and every choice city, and shall fell every good tree, and stop all springs of water, and mar every good piece of land with stones.
20પછી ખરેખર એમ જ થયું. બીજે દિવસે સવારમાં યજ્ઞ કરવાને વખતે અદોમની દિશામાંથી પાણી વહેવા લાગ્યું અને આખો દેશ જળબંબાકાર થઈ ગયો.
20It happened in the morning, about the time of offering the offering, that behold, there came water by the way of Edom, and the country was filled with water.
21જયારે મોઆબીઓને ખબર પડી કે ત્રણ રાજાઓ તેમની સાથે યુદ્ધ કરવા આવ્યા છે, ત્યારે હથિયાર ધારણ કરી શકે એવા એકે એક પુખ્ત વયના માંણસને બોલાવવામાં આવ્યો, અને સરહદ પર ગોઠવી દેવામાં આવ્યો.
21Now when all the Moabites heard that the kings had come up to fight against them, they gathered themselves together, all who were able to put on armor, and upward, and stood on the border.
22બીજે દિવસે સવારે સૂર્યના લાલ રંગનો પ્રકાશ પાણી પર પડયો એટલે મોઆબીઓને પાણી રકત જેવું દેખાયું!
22They rose up early in the morning, and the sun shone on the water, and the Moabites saw the water over against them as red as blood:
23તેઓ બોલી ઊઠયા, “આ તો લોહી છે! રાજાઓ અંદર અંદર લડ્યા હોવા જોઈએ અને તેમણે એકબીજાને કાપી નાખ્યા હોવા જોઈએ. માંટે ચાલો, આપણે તેઓની છાવણીમાં જઈને લૂંટ ચલાવીએ.”
23and they said, This is blood; the kings are surely destroyed, and they have struck each man his fellow: now therefore, Moab, to the spoil.
24પરંતુ જયારે મોઆબીઓ ઇસ્રાએલીની છાવણીએ આવ્યા ત્યારે ઇસ્રાએલીઓએ ઉભા થઇને મોઆબીઓની સામે હુમલો કર્યો અને પછી મોઆબીઓ ત્યાથી ભાગવા લાગ્યા. ઇસ્રાએલીઓએ મોઆબીઓને પૂર્ણ રીતે હરાવ્યા.
24When they came to the camp of Israel, the Israelites rose up and struck the Moabites, so that they fled before them; and they went forward into the land smiting the Moabites.
25તેમણે નગરોને ભોંયભેગા કરી નાખ્યાં, દરેક માંણસે એક એક પથ્થર નાખીને દરેક ખેતરને પથ્થરથી ભરી દીધાં. બધા ઝરણાંને તેમણે બંધ કરી દીધા, અને બધાં જ સારા વૃક્ષો કાપી નાખ્યાં, આખરે તેમણે કીર-હરેસેથને ઘેરો ઘાલ્યો અને પથ્થરથી હુમલો કરવા માંટે ગોફણિયાઓનો ઉપયોગ કર્યો.
25They beat down the cities; and on every good piece of land they cast every man his stone, and filled it; and they stopped all the springs of water, and felled all the good trees, until in Kir Hareseth only they left the stones of it; however the men armed with slings went about it, and struck it.
26જયારે મોઆબના રાજાએ જોયું કે, યુદ્ધનું પરિણામ પોતાની વિરૂદ્ધ જાય છે, ત્યારે તેણે સાતસો તરવારધારી સૈનિકોને ભેગા કર્યા, અને અદોમના રાજાના સૈનિકોને તોડી પાડવાનો પ્રયાસ કર્યો. જો કે તેના પ્રયત્નોમાં તે સફળ ન થયો.
26When the king of Moab saw that the battle was too severe for him, he took with him seven hundred men who drew sword, to break through to the king of Edom; but they could not.
27મોઆબના રાજાએ તેના પછી તેનો જયે પુત્ર જે રાજા થવાનો હતો તેને લઇને નગરના કોટ પર તેનું બલિદાન ચઢાવ્યું, આથી ઇસ્રાએલીઓ એટલા તો બેબાકળા બની ગયા કે, તેઓએ પીછે હઠ કરીને પોતાને દેશ પાછા ચાલ્યા ગયા.
27Then he took his eldest son who would have reigned in his place, and offered him for a burnt offering on the wall. There was great wrath against Israel: and they departed from him, and returned to their own land.
