1ઝીફના લોકોએ ગિબયાહમાં શાઉલની પાસે આવીને કહ્યું કે, “દાઉદ યહૂદાના વગડાની સામે આવેલા હખીલાહના પર્વતમાં છૂપાયેલો છે.”
1The Ziphites came to Saul to Gibeah, saying, Doesn't David hide himself in the hill of Hachilah, which is before the desert?
2એ સાંભળીને શાઉલ ઊઠયો, ઇસ્રાએલના 3,000 ચૂંટી કાઢેલા માંણસોને પોતાની સાથે લઈને તે ઝીફના રાનમાં દાઉદની શોધ કરવાને પહોંચી ગયો.
2Then Saul arose, and went down to the wilderness of Ziph, having three thousand chosen men of Israel with him, to seek David in the wilderness of Ziph.
3શાઉલે હખીલાહના ડુંગરાંમાં છાવણી નાખી.તે રસ્તાની બાજુમાં હતી. દાઉદ રણમાં રહેતો હતો, અને તેને ખબર પડી કે શાઉલ હખીલાહ આવ્યો છે.
3Saul encamped in the hill of Hachilah, which is before the desert, by the way. But David abode in the wilderness, and he saw that Saul came after him into the wilderness.
4તેથી દાઉદે અમુક જાસૂસોને મોકલ્યા અને તેઓએ પાકુ કર્યુ કે શાઉલ ખરેખર હખીલાહ આવ્યો છે. ખબર મેળવી કે શાઉલ અમુક સ્થળે પહોંચ્યો છે.
4David therefore sent out spies, and understood that Saul was come of a certainty.
5પછી દાઉદ શાઉલની છાવણી પર ગયો. તેણે શાઉલ અને તેનો સેનાપતિ નેરનો પુત્ર આબ્નેર કયાં સૂતેલા છે તે જોઈ લીંધુ. શાઉલ છાવણીની વચ્ચે સૂતેલો હતો અને લશ્કર શાઉલની આસપાસ હતું.
5David arose, and came to the place where Saul had encamped; and David saw the place where Saul lay, and Abner the son of Ner, the captain of his host: and Saul lay within the place of the wagons, and the people were encamped round about him.
6દાઉદે હિત્તી અહીમેલેખ અને સરૂયાનો પુત્ર અબીશાય સાથે વાત કરી (અબીશાય યોઆબનો ભાઇ હતો) અને કહ્યું, “માંરી સાથે સેનાની છાવણીમાં શાઉલને મળવા માંટે કોણ આવે છે?”અબીશાયે કહ્યું, “હું તૈયાર છું.”
6Then answered David and said to Ahimelech the Hittite, and to Abishai the son of Zeruiah, brother to Joab, saying, Who will go down with me to Saul to the camp? Abishai said, I will go down with you.
7આથી દાઉદ અને અબીશાય રાત્રે છાવણીમાં ગયા. તેમણે શાઉલને સૈનિકોની વચ્ચે છાવણીની મધ્યે સૂતેલો જોયો. તેનો ભાલો તેના માંથા આગળ જમીનમાં ખોસેલો હતો. આબ્નેર અને લશ્કર તેની ફરતે સૂતેલા હતા.
7So David and Abishai came to the people by night: and, behold, Saul lay sleeping within the place of the wagons, with his spear stuck in the ground at his head; and Abner and the people lay round about him.
8અબીશાયે દાઉદને કહ્યું, “દેવે આજે તારા દુશ્મનને તારા હાથમાં સુપ્રત કર્યા છે. હું એને ભાલાના એક જ ઘાથી ભોંય સાથે જડી દઈશ. માંરે બીજો ઘા કરવો પડે નહિ.”
8Then said Abishai to David, God has delivered up your enemy into your hand this day: now therefore please let me strike him with the spear to the earth at one stroke, and I will not strike him the second time.
9દાઉદે અબીશાયને કહ્યું, “શાઉલની હત્યા કરીશ નહિ, રાજા યહોવાનો પસંદ કરાયેલો છે, જે કોઇ તેની હત્યા કરશે તેને સજા થશે?
9David said to Abishai, Don't destroy him; for who can put forth his hand against Yahweh's anointed, and be guiltless?
10દાઉદે વધુમાં કહ્યું, “યહોવાના સમ, યહોવા જ એને પૂરો કરશે; અથવા તો એનો સમય ભરાશે ને તે મરી જશે, અથવા તેે યુદ્ધે ચઢશે અને તેમાં તેનો નાશ થશે.
10David said, As Yahweh lives, Yahweh will strike him; or his day shall come to die; or he shall go down into battle and perish.
11પણ યહોવાને હું પ્રાર્થના કરું છું કે તેમને અભિષેક કર્યો છે તે રાજા ઉપર મને ઇજા ન કરવા દે! હવે તું એના માંથા આગળથી ભાલો અને પાણીનો કૂજો લઈ લે અને આપણે અહીંથી ચાલતા થઈએ.”
11Yahweh forbid that I should put forth my hand against Yahweh's anointed: but now please take the spear that is at his head, and the jar of water, and let us go.
12આથી દાઉદે શાઉલના માંથા પાસે રહેલો ભાલો અને પાણીનો કૂંજો લીધો અને ચાલ્યો ગયો. પણ કોઇએ દાઉદ અને અબીશાયને શાઉલના માંથા પાસે રહેલો ભાલો અને કૂંજો લઇ જતા જોયા નહિ. કોઇએ કઇજ જોયું નહિ. છાવણી માં બધાં ઊંઘતા હતા અને યહોવાએ તેમને બધાને ગાઢ નિદ્રામાં નાખ્યા હતા.
12So David took the spear and the jar of water from Saul's head; and they got them away: and no man saw it, nor knew it, neither did any awake; for they were all asleep, because a deep sleep from Yahweh was fallen on them.
13પછી દાઉદ બીજી બાજુએ ચાલ્યો ગયો અને દૂર એક ટેકરી ઉપર જઈને ઊભો રહ્યો. તેમની વચ્ચે અંતર ઘણું હતું.
13Then David went over to the other side, and stood on the top of the mountain afar off; a great space being between them;
14દાઉદે લશ્કરને અને નેરના પુત્ર આબ્નેરને હાંક માંરી કહ્યું, “આબ્નેર, જવાબ આપ!”આબ્નેર બોલ્યો, “એ કોણ રાજાને ઘાંટો પાડે છે?”
14and David cried to the people, and to Abner the son of Ner, saying, Don't you answer, Abner? Then Abner answered, Who are you who cries to the king?
15દાઉદે આબ્નેરને કહ્યું, “બધા ઇસ્રાએલીઓમાં તું એમ સમજે છે કે તું બીજા માંણસ કરતા સારો છે, તે એમ છે? તો તે તારા ધણી રાજાને માંરી નાખવા એક સામાંન્ય માંણસ આવ્યો ત્યારે શા માંટે રક્ષણ કર્યુ નહિ?
15David said to Abner, Aren't you a valiant man? and who is like you in Israel? why then have you not kept watch over your lord, the king? for there came one of the people in to destroy the king your lord.
16જે તે કર્યુ છે તે સારુ ન હતુ, કારણ તેઁ તારા ધણીનું રક્ષણ નથી કર્યુ, આપણા યહોવાએ તેને રાજા બનાવ્યો છે અને તે એની રક્ષા નથી કરી, તું અને તારા માંણસો મરવાને લાયક છો! રાજાના માંથા પાસે હતો તે ભાલો અને કૂંજો ક્યાં છે તે જુઓ.”
16This thing isn't good that you have done. As Yahweh lives, you are worthy to die, because you have not kept watch over your lord, Yahweh's anointed. Now see where the king's spear is, and the jar of water that was at his head.
17શાઉલે દાઉદનો અવાજ ઓળખ્યો અને કહ્યું, “આ કોણ માંરો પુત્ર દાઉદ બોલે છે કે? દાઉદે કહ્યું હાં માંરા ધણી અને રાજા હું છું!”
17Saul knew David's voice, and said, Is this your voice, my son David? David said, It is my voice, my lord, O king.
18“આપ માંરી તમાંરા સેવકની પાછળ કેમ પડ્યાં છો? મેં શો ગુનો કર્યો છે? મેં કયું કાવતરું કર્યુ છે?
18He said, Why does my lord pursue after his servant? for what have I done? or what evil is in my hand?
19માંરા ધણી અને રાજા, માંરુ સાંભળો, તમાંરા સેવકને વાત કરતા: જો યહોવાએ આપને માંરી વિરુદ્ધ ઉશ્કેર્યો હોય, તો તેઓ માંરા અર્પણો સ્વીકારે, પણ જો માંણસોએ આપને માંરી વિરુદ્ધ ઉશ્કેર્યો હોય તો ભલે દેવથી એમના માંટે ખરાબ થાય. યહોવાએ આપણને આપેલ ભૂમિમાંથી લોકોએ મને બહાર હાંકી કાઢયો. તેઓએ કહ્યું “ચાલ્યો જા, અને બીજા વિદેશી દેવોની સેવા કર.’
19Now therefore, please let my lord the king hear the words of his servant. If it be Yahweh that has stirred you up against me, let him accept an offering: but if it be the children of men, cursed be they before Yahweh: for they have driven me out this day that I shouldn't cling to Yahweh's inheritance, saying, Go, serve other gods.
20મને યહોવાની હાજરીથી દૂર માંરી નાખતા નહિ ઇસ્રાએલના રાજા માંત્ર માંખીની પાછળ પડ્યાં છે, તમે તો પર્વતો ઉપર તેતરનો શિકાર કરે એ માંણસ જેવા છો.”
20Now therefore, don't let my blood fall to the earth away from the presence of Yahweh: for the king of Israel is come out to seek a flea, as when one does hunt a partridge in the mountains.
21ત્યારે શાઉલે કહ્યું, “માંરી ભૂલ થઈ, માંરા પુત્ર દાઉદ, તું પાછો આવ; આજે તેઁ મને બતાવ્યું છે કે માંરો જીવ તારા માંટે કિંમતી છે. હવે હું તને કદી ઇજા નહિ કરું અને ફરી કદી મૂર્ખાઇથી વતીર્શ નહિ. મેં બહું ખોટું કર્યુ છે.”
21Then said Saul, I have sinned: return, my son David; for I will no more do you harm, because my life was precious in your eyes this day: behold, I have played the fool, and have erred exceedingly.
22દાઉદે જવાબ આપ્યો, “આ રહ્યો રાજાનો ભાલો. તમાંરા કોઈ માંણસને મોકલીને મંગાવી લો.
22David answered, Behold the spear, O king! let then one of the young men come over and get it.
23ભલે યહોવા માંણસને તેના સાચા કાર્યો અને વિશ્વાસુપણા પ્રમાંણે બદલો આપે. આજે યહોવાએ તને માંરા હાથમાં સોપી દીધો હતો પરંતુ યહોવાએ તને રાજા બનાવ્યો છે. તેથી હું એમના પસંદ કરેલા માંણસને ઇજા ન કરી શકું.
23Yahweh will render to every man his righteousness and his faithfulness; because Yahweh delivered you into my hand today, and I wouldn't put forth my hand against Yahweh's anointed.
24જેમ મેં તમાંરો જીવ બચાવ્યો છે જે આજે કિંમતી છે, તેમ યહોવા બતાડશે કે માંરો જીવ એમને કિંમતી છે! બધી મુશ્કેલીઓથી તેઓ માંરુ રક્ષણ કરશે.”
24Behold, as your life was much set by this day in my eyes, so let my life be much set by in the eyes of Yahweh, and let him deliver me out of all oppression.
25પછી શાઉલે દાઉદને કહ્યું, “માંરા પુત્ર, દાઉદ, હું તને આશીર્વાદ આપુ છું. તને આશીર્વાદ મળે, તું મહાન કાર્યો કરે અને વિજયી બને.” પછી દાઉદ પોતાને રસ્તે પડયો અને શાઉલ પોતાને ઘેર પાછો ફર્યો.
25Then Saul said to David, Blessed be you, my son David: you shall both do mightily, and shall surely prevail. So David went his way, and Saul returned to his place.
