1অবীমেলকের পরে তোলয় ইস্রায়েলের নিস্তারার্থে উৎপন্ন হইলেন; তিনি ইষাখর বংশীয় দোদয়ের পৌত্র পূয়ার পুত্র; তিনি পর্ব্বতময় ইফ্রয়িম প্রদেশস্থ শামীরে বাস করিতেন।
1After Abimelech there arose to save Israel Tola the son of Puah, the son of Dodo, a man of Issachar; and he lived in Shamir in the hill-country of Ephraim.
2তিনি তেইশ বৎসর ইস্রায়েলের বিচার করিলেন; পরে তিনি মরিয়া গেলেন, এবং শামীরে তাঁহার কবর হইল।
2He judged Israel twenty-three years, and died, and was buried in Shamir.
3তাঁহার পরে গিলিয়দীয় যায়ীর উৎপন্ন হইয়া বাইশ বৎসর পর্য্যন্ত ইস্রায়েলের বিচার করিলেন।
3After him arose Jair, the Gileadite; and he judged Israel twenty-two years.
4তাঁহার ত্রিশটী পুত্র ছিল, তাহারা ত্রিশ গর্দ্দভে চড়িয়া বেড়াইত; এবং তাহাদের ত্রিশ নগর ছিল; গিলিয়দ দেশস্থ সেই সকল নগরকে অদ্যাপি হবোৎ-যায়ীর বলা যায়।
4He had thirty sons who rode on thirty donkey colts, and they had thirty cities, which are called Havvoth Jair to this day, which are in the land of Gilead.
5পরে যায়ীর মরিয়া গেলেন, এবং কামোনে তাঁহার কবর হইল।
5Jair died, and was buried in Kamon.
6পরে ইস্রায়েল-সন্তানগণ সদাপ্রভুর দৃষ্টিতে যাহা মন্দ, তাহাই পুনর্ব্বার করিল, এবং বাল দেবগণের, অষ্টারোৎ দেবীদের, অরামের দেবগণের, সীদোনের দেবগণের, মোয়াবের দেবগণের, অম্মোন-সন্তানদের দেবগণের ও পলেষ্টীয়দের দেবগণের সেবা করিতে লাগিল; তাহারা সদাপ্রভুকে ত্যাগ করিল, তাঁহার সেবা করিল না।
6The children of Israel again did that which was evil in the sight of Yahweh, and served the Baals, and the Ashtaroth, and the gods of Syria, and the gods of Sidon, and the gods of Moab, and the gods of the children of Ammon, and the gods of the Philistines; and they forsook Yahweh, and didn't serve him.
7তখন ইস্রায়েলের বিরুদ্ধে সদাপ্রভুর ক্রোধ প্রজ্বলিত হইল, আর তিনি পলেষ্টীয়দের হস্তে ও অম্মোন-সন্তানদের হস্তে তাহাদিগকে বিক্রয় করিলেন।
7The anger of Yahweh was kindled against Israel, and he sold them into the hand of the Philistines, and into the hand of the children of Ammon.
8আর ইহারা ঐ বৎসর ইস্রায়েল-সন্তানগণকে পীড়ন ও চূর্ণ করিল; আঠার বৎসর পর্য্যন্ত যর্দ্দন-পারস্থ গিলিয়দের অন্তঃপাতী ইমোরীয় দেশনিবাসী সমস্ত ইস্রায়েল-সন্তানকে চূর্ণ করিল।
8They vexed and oppressed the children of Israel that year: eighteen years oppressed they all the children of Israel that were beyond the Jordan in the land of the Amorites, which is in Gilead.
9আর অম্মোন-সন্তানগণ যিহূদার ও বিন্যামীনের এবং ইফ্রয়িম কুলের সহিত যুদ্ধ করিতে যর্দ্দন পার হইয়া আসিত; এইরূপে ইস্রায়েল অতিশয় কষ্ট পাইতে লাগিল।
9The children of Ammon passed over the Jordan to fight also against Judah, and against Benjamin, and against the house of Ephraim; so that Israel was sore distressed.
10পরে ইস্রায়েল-সন্তানগণ সদাপ্রভুর কাছে ক্রন্দন করিয়া কহিল, আমরা তোমার বিরুদ্ধে পাপ করিয়াছি, কেননা আমরা আপনাদের ঈশ্বরকে ত্যাগ এবং বাল দেবগণের সেবা করিয়াছি।
10The children of Israel cried to Yahweh, saying, We have sinned against you, even because we have forsaken our God, and have served the Baals.
11তাহাতে সদাপ্রভু ইস্রায়েল-সন্তানগণকে কহিলেন, মিস্রীয়দের হইতে, ইমোরীয়দের হইতে, অম্মোন-সন্তানদের হইতে ও পলেষ্টীয়দের হইতে আমি কি তোমাদিগকে [নিস্তার করি] নাই?
11Yahweh said to the children of Israel, Didn't I save you from the Egyptians, and from the Amorites, from the children of Ammon, and from the Philistines?
12আর সীদোনীয়, অমালেকীয় ও মায়োনীয়গণ তোমাদের উপরে উপদ্রব করিয়াছিল, এবং তোমরা আমার কাছে ক্রন্দন করিলে আমি তাহাদের হস্ত হইতে তোমাদিগকে নিস্তার করিলাম।
12The Sidonians also, and the Amalekites, and the Maonites, did oppress you; and you cried to me, and I saved you out of their hand.
13তথাপি তোমরা আমাকে ত্যাগ করিয়া অন্য দেবগণের সেবা করিলে, অতএব আমি আর তোমাদের নিস্তার করিব না;
13Yet you have forsaken me, and served other gods: therefore I will save you no more.
14যাও; আপনাদের মনোনীত ঐ দেবগণের কাছে ক্রন্দন কর; সঙ্কটের সময়ে তাহারাই তোমাদিগকে নিস্তার করুক।
14Go and cry to the gods which you have chosen; let them save you in the time of your distress.
15তখন ইস্রায়েল সন্তানগণ সদাপ্রভুকে কহিল, আমরা পাপ করিয়াছি; এখন তোমার দৃষ্টিতে যাহা ভাল বোধ হয়, তাহাই আমাদের প্রতি কর; বিনয় করি, কেবল অদ্য আমাদিগকে উদ্ধার কর।
15The children of Israel said to Yahweh, We have sinned: do you to us whatever seems good to you; only deliver us, we pray you, this day.
16পরে তাহারা আপনাদের মধ্য হইতে বিজাতীয় দেবগণকে দূর করিয়া সদাপ্রভুর সেবা করিল; তাহাতে ইস্রায়েলের কষ্টে তাঁহার প্রাণ দুঃখিত হইল।
16They put away the foreign gods from among them, and served Yahweh; and his soul was grieved for the misery of Israel.
17ঐ সময়ে অম্মোন-সন্তানগণ সমাহূত হইয়া গিলিয়দে শিবির স্থাপন করিল। আর ইস্রায়েল-সন্তানগণ একত্র হইয়া মিস্‌পাতে শিবির স্থাপন করিল।
17Then the children of Ammon were gathered together, and encamped in Gilead. The children of Israel assembled themselves together, and encamped in Mizpah.
18তাহাতে লোকেরা, গিলিয়দের অধ্যক্ষগণ, পরস্পর কহিল, অম্মোন-সন্তানগণের সহিত যুদ্ধ করিতে কোন ব্যক্তি আরম্ভ করিবে? সে গিলিয়দ-নিবাসী সমস্ত লোকের প্রধান হইবে।
18The people, the princes of Gilead, said one to another, What man is he who will begin to fight against the children of Ammon? he shall be head over all the inhabitants of Gilead.
