1ஞானம் தன் வீட்டைக் கட்டி, தன் ஏழு தூண்களையும் சித்திரந்தீர்த்து,
1Wisdom has built her house. She has carved out her seven pillars.
2தன் கொழுத்த ஜந்துக்களை அடித்து, திராட்சரசத்தை வார்த்துவைத்து, தன் போஜனபந்தியை ஆயத்தப்படுத்தி,
2She has prepared her meat. She has mixed her wine. She has also set her table.
3தன் பணிவிடைக்காரிகளை அனுப்பி, பட்டணத்தின் உயர்ந்த மேடைகளின்மேல் நின்று கூப்பிட்டு,
3She has sent out her maidens. She cries from the highest places of the city:
4புத்தியீனனை நோக்கி: எவன் பேதையோ அவன் இவ்விடத்தில் வரக்கடவன்.
4"Whoever is simple, let him turn in here!" As for him who is void of understanding, she says to him,
5நீங்கள் வந்து என் அப்பத்தைப் புசித்து, நான் வார்த்த திராட்சரசத்தைப் பானம்பண்ணுங்கள்.
5"Come, eat some of my bread, Drink some of the wine which I have mixed!
6பேதமையை விட்டு விலகுங்கள், அப்பொழுது பிழைத்திருப்பீர்கள்; புத்தியின் வழியிலே நடவுங்கள் என்று விளம்புகிறது.
6Leave your simple ways, and live. Walk in the way of understanding."
7பரியாசக்காரனைக் கண்டிக்கிறவன் இலச்சையடைகிறான்; துன்மார்க்கனைக் கண்டிக்கிறவன் தன்னைக் கறைப்படுத்திக்கொள்ளுகிறான்.
7He who corrects a mocker invites insult. He who reproves a wicked man invites abuse.
8பரியாசக்காரனைக் கடிந்துகொள்ளாதே, அவன் உன்னைப் பகைப்பான்; ஞானமுள்ளவனைக் கடிந்துகொள், அவன் உன்னை நேசிப்பான்.
8Don't reprove a scoffer, lest he hate you. Reprove a wise man, and he will love you.
9ஞானமுள்ளவனுக்குப் போதகம்பண்ணு, அவன் ஞானத்தில் தேறுவான்; நீதிமானுக்கு உபதேசம் பண்ணு, அவன் அறிவில் விருத்தியடைவான்.
9Instruct a wise man, and he will be still wiser. Teach a righteous man, and he will increase in learning.
10கர்த்தருக்குப் பயப்படுதலே ஞானத்தின் ஆரம்பம்; பரிசுத்தரின் அறிவே அறிவு.
10The fear of Yahweh is the beginning of wisdom. The knowledge of the Holy One is understanding.
11என்னாலே உன் நாட்கள் பெருகும்; உன் ஆயுசின் வருஷங்கள் விருத்தியாகும்.
11For by me your days will be multiplied. The years of your life will be increased.
12நீ ஞானியானால் உனக்கென்று ஞானியாவாய்; நீ பரியாசக்காரனானால் நீயே அதின் பயனை அநுபவிப்பாய் என்று சொல்லுகிறது.
12If you are wise, you are wise for yourself. If you mock, you alone will bear it.
13மதியற்ற ஸ்திரீ வாயாடியும் ஒன்றுமறியாத நிர்மூடமுமாயிருக்கிறாள்.
13The foolish woman is loud, Undisciplined, and knows nothing.
14அவள் தன் வீட்டுவாசற்படியிலும் பட்டணத்தின் மேடைகளிலும் ஆசனம் போட்டு உட்கார்ந்து,
14She sits at the door of her house, On a seat in the high places of the city,
15தங்கள் வழிகளை நோக்கி நேரே போகும் வழிப்போக்கரைப் பார்த்து:
15To call to those who pass by, Who go straight on their ways,
16எவன் பேதையோ அவன் இவ்விடத்தில் வரக்கடவன் என்றும்,
16"Whoever is simple, let him turn in here." As for him who is void of understanding, she says to him,
17மதியீனனை நோக்கி: திருட்டுத்தண்ணீர் தித்திக்கும், அந்தரங்கத்தில் புசிக்கும் அப்பம் இன்பமாயிருக்கும் என்றும் சொல்லிக் கூப்பிடுகிறாள்.
17"Stolen water is sweet. Food eaten in secret is pleasant."
18ஆயினும் மரித்தவர்கள் அவ்விடத்தில் உண்டென்றும், அவளுடைய விருந்தாளிகள் நரகபாதாளங்களில் கிடக்கிறார்களென்றும் அவன் அறியான்.
18But he doesn't know that the dead are there, That her guests are in the depths of Sheol.
