1என் மகனே, நீ உன் சிநேகிதனுக்காகப் பிணைப்பட்டு, அந்நியனுக்குக் கையடித்துக்கொடுத்தாயானால்,
1My son, if you have become collateral for your neighbor, If you have struck your hands in pledge for a stranger;
2நீ உன் வாய்மொழிகளால் சிக்குண்டாய், உன் வாயின் வார்த்தைகளால் பிடிபட்டாய்.
2You are trapped by the words of your mouth. You are ensnared with the words of your mouth.
3இப்பொழுது என் மகனே, உன் சிநேகிதனுடைய கையில் நீ அகப்பட்டுக்கொண்டபடியால், நீ உன்னைத் தப்புவித்துக்கொள்ள ஒன்று செய்.
3Do this now, my son, and deliver yourself, Seeing you have come into the hand of your neighbor. Go, humble yourself. Press your plea with your neighbor.
4உன் கண்ணுக்கு நித்திரையும், உன் கண்ணிமைக்குத் தூக்கமும் வரவிடாமல், உன் சிநேகிதனிடத்தில் போய், உன்னைத் தாழ்த்தி, அவனை வருந்திக் கேட்டுக்கொள்.
4Give no sleep to your eyes, Nor slumber to your eyelids.
5வெளிமான் வேட்டைக்காரன் கைக்கும், குருவி வேடன் கைக்கும் தப்புவதுபோல, நீ உன்னைத் தப்புவித்துக்கொள்.
5Free yourself, like a gazelle from the hand of the hunter, Like a bird from the snare of the fowler.
6சோம்பேறியே, நீ எறும்பினிடத்தில் போய், அதின் வழிகளைப் பார்த்து, ஞானத்தைக் கற்றுக்கொள்.
6Go to the ant, you sluggard. Consider her ways, and be wise;
7அதற்குப் பிரபுவும், தலைவனும், அதிகாரியும் இல்லாதிருந்தும்,
7Which having no chief, overseer, or ruler,
8கோடைகாலத்தில் தனக்கு ஆகாரத்தைச் சம்பாதித்து, அறுப்புக்காலத்தில் தனக்குத் தானியத்தைச் சேர்த்துவைக்கும்.
8Provides her bread in the summer, And gathers her food in the harvest.
9சோம்பேறியே, நீ எவ்வளவு நேரம் படுத்திருப்பாய்? எப்பொழுது உன் தூக்கத்தைவிட்டு எழுந்திருப்பாய்?
9How long will you sleep, sluggard? When will you arise out of your sleep?
10இன்னுங் கொஞ்சம் தூங்கட்டும், இன்னும் கொஞ்சம் உறங்கட்டும், இன்னுங் கொஞ்சம் கைமுடக்கிக்கொண்டு நித்திரை செய்யட்டும் என்பாயோ?
10A little sleep, a little slumber, A little folding of the hands to sleep:
11உன் தரித்திரம் வழிப்போக்கனைப் போலவும், உன் வறுமை ஆயுதமணிந்தவனைப்போலவும் வரும்.
11So your poverty will come as a robber, And your scarcity as an armed man.
12பேலியாளின் மனுஷனாகிய ஒரு துன்மார்க்கன் ஆகடியம் பேசித்திரிகிறான்.
12A worthless person, a man of iniquity, Is he who walks with a perverse mouth;
13அவன் தன் கண்களால் சைகைகாட்டி, தன் கால்களால் பேசி, தன் விரல்களால் போதனை செய்கிறான்.
13Who winks with his eyes, who signals with his feet, Who motions with his fingers;
14அவன் இருதயத்திலே திரியாவரமுண்டு; இடைவிடாமல் பொல்லாப்பைப் பிணைத்து, வழக்குகளை உண்டுபண்ணுகிறான்.
14In whose heart is perverseness, Who devises evil continually, Who always sows discord.
15ஆகையால் சடிதியில் அவனுக்கு ஆபத்து வரும்; சகாயமின்றிச் சடிதியில் நாசமடைவான்.
15Therefore his calamity will come suddenly. He will be broken suddenly, and that without remedy.
16ஆறு காரியங்களைக் கர்த்தர் வெறுக்கிறார், ஏழும் அவருக்கு அருவருப்பானவைகள்.
16There are six things which Yahweh hates; Yes, seven which are an abomination to him:
17அவையாவன: மேட்டிமையான கண், பொய்நாவு, குற்றமற்றவர்களுடைய இரத்தம் சிந்துங்கை,
17Haughty eyes, a lying tongue, Hands that shed innocent blood;
18துராலோசனையைப் பிணைக்கும் இருதயம், தீங்கு செய்வதற்கு விரைந்தோடுங்கால்,
18A heart that devises wicked schemes, Feet that are swift in running to mischief,
19அபத்தம் பேசும் பொய்ச்சாட்சி, சகோதரருக்குள்ளே விரோதத்தை உண்டுபண்ணுதல் ஆகிய இவைகளே.
19A false witness who utters lies, And he who sows discord among brothers.
20என் மகனே, உன் தகப்பன் கற்பனையைக் காத்துக்கொள்; உன் தாயின் போதகத்தைத் தள்ளாதே.
20My son, keep your father's commandment, And don't forsake your mother's teaching.
21அவைகளை எப்பொழுதும் உன் இருதயத்திலே அணிந்து, அவைகளை உன் கழுத்திலே கட்டிக்கொள்.
21Bind them continually on your heart. Tie them around your neck.
22நீ நடக்கும்போது அது உனக்கு வழிகாட்டும்; நீ படுக்கும்போது அது உன்னைக் காப்பாற்றும்; நீ விழிக்கும்போது அது உன்னோடே சம்பாஷிக்கும்.
22When you walk, it will lead you. When you sleep, it will watch over you. When you awake, it will talk with you.
23கட்டளையே விளக்கு, வேதமே வெளிச்சம், போதகசிட்சையே ஜீவவழி.
23For the commandment is a lamp, And the law is light. Reproofs of instruction are the way of life,
24அது உன்னைத் துன்மார்க்க ஸ்திரீக்கும், இச்சகம்பேசும் நாவையுடைய பரஸ்திரீக்கும் விலக்கிக் காக்கும்.
24To keep you from the immoral woman, From the flattery of the wayward wife's tongue.
25உன் இருதயத்திலே அவள் அழகை இச்சியாதே; அவள் தன் கண்ணிமைகளினால் உன்னைப் பிடிக்கவிடாதே.
25Don't lust after her beauty in your heart, Neither let her captivate you with her eyelids.
26வேசியினிமித்தம் ஒரு அப்பத்துணிக்கையையும் இரக்கவேண்டியதாகும்; விபசாரியானவள் அருமையான உயிரை வேட்டையாடுகிறாள்.
26For a prostitute reduces you to a piece of bread. The adulteress hunts for your precious life.
27தன் வஸ்திரம் வேகாமல் மடியிலே எவனாவது நெருப்பை வைத்துக்கொள்ளக்கூடுமோ?
27Can a man scoop fire into his lap, And his clothes not be burned?
28தன் கால் சுடாமல் எவனாவது தழலின்மேல் நடக்கக்கூடுமோ?
28Or can one walk on hot coals, And his feet not be scorched?
29பிறனுடைய மனைவியிடத்தில் பிரவேசிப்பவனும், அப்படியே அவளைத்தொடுகிற எவனும், ஆக்கினைக்குத் தப்பான்.
29So is he who goes in to his neighbor's wife. Whoever touches her will not be unpunished.
30திருடன் தன் பசியை ஆற்றத் திருடினால் ஜனங்கள் அவனை இகழமாட்டார்கள்;
30Men don't despise a thief, If he steals to satisfy himself when he is hungry:
31அவன் கண்டுபிடிக்கப்பட்டால் ஏழு மடங்கு கொடுத்துத் தீரவேண்டும்; தன் வீட்டிலுள்ள பொருள்களையெல்லாம் கொடுக்கவேண்டியதாகும்.
31But if he is found, he shall restore seven times. He shall give all the wealth of his house.
32ஸ்திரீயுடனே விபசாரம்பண்ணுகிறவன் மதிகெட்டவன்; அப்படிச் செய்கிறவன் தன் ஆத்துமாவைக் கெடுத்துப்போடுகிறான்.
32He who commits adultery with a woman is void of understanding. He who does it destroys his own soul.
33வாதையையும் இலச்சையையும் அடைவான்; அவன் நிந்தை ஒழியாது.
33He will get wounds and dishonor. His reproach will not be wiped away.
34ஸ்திரீயைப்பற்றிய எரிச்சல் புருஷனுக்கு மூர்க்கத்தை உண்டுபண்ணும்; அவன் பழிவாங்கும் நாளில் தப்பவிடான்.
34For jealousy arouses the fury of the husband. He won't spare in the day of vengeance.
35அவன் எந்த ஈட்டையும் பாரான்; அநேகம் வெகுமதிகளைக் கொடுத்தாலும் அமர்ந்திருக்கமாட்டான்.
35He won't regard any ransom, Neither will he rest content, though you give many gifts.
