1ବହୁମୂଲ୍ଯ ତୈଳ ଅପେକ୍ଷା ଉତ୍ତମ ନାମ ଭଲ ଅଟେ। ବ୍ଯକ୍ତିର ଜନ୍ମ ଦିନ ଅପେକ୍ଷା ମୃତ୍ଯୁର ଦିନ ୟଥେଷ୍ଟ ଭଲ ଅଟେ।
1A good name is better than fine perfume; and the day of death better than the day of one's birth.
2ଭୋଜିକୁ ୟିବା ଅପେକ୍ଷା ଶବଦାହକୁ ୟିବା ଭଲ। କାରଣ ତାହା ସମୁଦାଯ ମନୁଷ୍ଯର ଶଷଗେତି ଅଟେ ଓ ଜୀବିତ ଲୋକ ତହିଁରେ ମନୋୟୋଗ କରିବା ଉଚିତ୍।
2It is better to go to the house of mourning than to go to the house of feasting: for that is the end of all men, and the living should take this to heart.
3ସୁଖଠାରୁ ଦୁଃଖ ଭଲ କାରଣ ଏକ ଦୁଃଖ ଅନୁଭୂତି ମୂଲ୍ଯବାନ ଶିକ୍ଷା ଦିଏ।
3Sorrow is better than laughter; for by the sadness of the face the heart is made good.
4ଜ୍ଞାନୀମାନଙ୍କ ହୃଦଯ ଚିତାଗ୍ନି ରେ। ମାତ୍ର ମୂର୍ଖମାନଙ୍କ ହୃଦଯ ଭୋଜି ରେ ଥାଏ।
4The heart of the wise is in the house of mourning; but the heart of fools is in the house of mirth.
5ଜଣେ ମୂର୍ଖର ଗୀତ ଶୁଣିବାଠାରୁ ଜଣେ ଜ୍ଞାନୀ ଲୋକଙ୍କଠାରୁ ଭର୍ତ୍ସନା ଶୁଣିବା, ଭଲ।
5It is better to hear the rebuke of the wise, than for a man to hear the song of fools.
6ହାଣ୍ଡିତଳେ କଣ୍ଟାର ଚଡ଼ଚଡ଼ ଶବ୍ଦ ଯେପରି ମୂର୍ଖର ହାସ୍ଯ ସହେିପରି, ଏହା ମଧ୍ଯ ଅର୍ଥହୀନ।
6For as the crackling of thorns under a pot, so is the laughter of the fool. This also is vanity.
7ଅରାଜକତା ଜ୍ଞାନୀ ଲୋକମାନଙ୍କୁ ବୋକା କରିଦିଏ, ଲାଞ୍ଚ ବିବକେ ନଷ୍ଟ କରେ।
7Surely extortion makes the wise man foolish; and a bribe destroys the understanding.
8ବିଷଯର ଆରମ୍ଭ ଅପେକ୍ଷା ତହିଁର ସମାପ୍ତି ଭଲ। ଗୋଟିଏ ଜରାଗ୍ରସ୍ଥ ଆତ୍ମା ଏକ ଗର୍ବୀ ଆତ୍ମାଠାରୁ ଭଲ।
8Better is the end of a thing than its beginning. The patient in spirit is better than the proud in spirit.
9ଶୀଘ୍ର କୋରଧିତ ହୁଅ ନାହିଁ। କାରଣ ମୂର୍ଖମାନଙ୍କ ହୃଦଯ ହରେ କୋରଧ ବାସ କରେ।
9Don't be hasty in your spirit to be angry, for anger rests in the bosom of fools.
10ପଚାର ନାହିଁ, କାହିଁକି ବର୍ତ୍ତମାନଠାରୁ 'ଅତୀତ' ଭଲ ଥିଲା? ଯଦି ତୁମ୍ଭେ ଜ୍ଞାନୀ ହାଇେଥିବ ଏହା ପଚାରିବ ନାହିଁ।
10Don't say, "Why were the former days better than these?" For you do not ask wisely about this.
11ଜ୍ଞାନ ଉତ୍ତମ ଅଟେ, ଯଦି ଏହା ବଂଶାନୁଗତ ଭାବରେ ଆସିଥାଏ, ଏହା ଜୀବନଧାରଣ ରେ ଲାଭ ଦଇେଥାଏ।
11Wisdom is as good as an inheritance. Yes, it is more excellent for those who see the sun.
12କାରଣ ଧନ ଯେପରି ଆଶ୍ରଯ ସ୍ବରୂପ, ଜ୍ଞାନ ହିଁ ସହେିପରି ଆଶ୍ରଯ ସ୍ବରୂପ ଅଟେ। ଜ୍ଞାନ ଥିବାର ଲାଭ ଏହି ଯେ, ଯେଉଁମାନଙ୍କର ଜ୍ଞାନ ଅଛି ସମାନଙ୍କେର ଜୀବନକୁ ଏହା ସୁରକ୍ଷା କରେ।
12For wisdom is a defense, even as money is a defense; but the excellency of knowledge is that wisdom preserves the life of him who has it.
13ପରମେଶ୍ବରଙ୍କ କାର୍ୟ୍ଯକୁ ଅନୁଧ୍ଯାନ କର। କାରଣ ସେ ଯାହା ବକ୍ର କରନ୍ତି, ତାକୁ କହେି ଠିକ୍ କରିପାରିବ ନାହିଁ।
13Consider the work of God, for who can make that straight, which he has made crooked?
14ଖୁସି ହୁଅ ଯେତବେେଳେ ତୁମ୍ଭ ପାଖ ରେ ସମ୍ପତ୍ତି ଅଛି କିନ୍ତୁ ଯେତବେେଳେ ତୁମ୍ଭେ ଦୁଃଖ ଅନୁଧ୍ଯାନ କର ପରମେଶ୍ବର ଆମ୍ଭକୁ ଭଲ ସହିତ ଖରାପ ସମୟ ଦଇେଛନ୍ତି। ଯାହା ଫଳ ରେ କୌଣସି ଲୋକ ଭବିଷ୍ଯତ ରେ କ'ଣ ଘଟିବ ତାହା ଜାଣିପାରିବ।
14In the day of prosperity be joyful, and in the day of adversity consider; yes, God has made the one side by side with the other, to the end that man should not find out anything after him.
15ମାରେ ଅର୍ଥହୀନ ଜୀବନ କାଳ ମଧିଅରେ, ମୁଁ ଏହିସବୁ ଜିନିଷ ଦେଖିଅଛି। କେତବେେଳେ ଜଣେ ଧାର୍ମିକ ଲୋକ ଆପଣା ଧାର୍ମିକତା ସତ୍ତ୍ବେ ବି ବିନଷ୍ଟ ହୁଏ, ଯେଉଁଠିକି ଏକ ପୁଣି ଦୁଷ୍ଟ ଲୋକ ତା'ର ଦୁଷ୍ଟାମୀ ସତ୍ତ୍ବେ ଦୀର୍ଘଜୀବି ହୁଏ।
15All this have I seen in my days of vanity: there is a righteous man who perishes in his righteousness, and there is a wicked man who lives long in his evil-doing.
16ତୁମ୍ଭମାନେେ ନିଜକୁ ଅତି ଧାର୍ମିକ ବୋଲି ଦଖାେଅ ନାହିଁ। କିଅବା ଆପଣାକୁ ଅତି ଜ୍ଞାନୀ ବୋଲି ଦଖାଇେ ହୁଅ ନାହିଁ। କାହିଁକି ? ଏଥି ରେ ତୁମ୍ଭେ ନିଜକୁ ବିନାଶ କରିବ।
16Don't be overly righteous, neither make yourself overly wise. Why should you destroy yourself?
17ତୁମ୍ଭେ ଅତି ଦୁଷ୍ଟ କିଅବା ନିର୍ବୋଧ ହୁଅ ନାହିଁ। ଆପଣା କାଳ ପୁରିବା ପୂର୍ବରୁ କାହିଁକି ମରିବ ?
17Don't be too wicked, neither be foolish. Why should you die before your time?
18ହସ୍ତ କାଢ଼ି ନ ନଇେ ତାକୁ ଧରି ରଖିବା ରେ ତୁମ୍ଭର ମଙ୍ଗଳ। କାରଣ ଯେ ପରମେଶ୍ବରଙ୍କୁ ସମ୍ମାନ କରେ, ସେ ଉଭୟ କରେ।
18It is good that you should take hold of this. Yes, also from that don't withdraw your hand; for he who fears God will come forth from them all.
19ନଗର ରେ ଥିବା ଦଶଜଣ ଶାସନକର୍ତ୍ତା ଅପେକ୍ଷା ଜ୍ଞାନ, ଜ୍ଞାନୀ ବ୍ଯକ୍ତିକୁ ଅଧିକ ଶକ୍ତି ଦିଏ।
19Wisdom is a strength to the wise man more than ten rulers who are in a city.
20ୟିଏ ପାପ ନ କରି କବଳେ ସତ୍କର୍ମ କରିଛି, ଏପରି ଜଣେ ଧାର୍ମିକ ପୃଥିବୀ ରେ ନିଶ୍ଚଯ ନାହିଁ।
20Surely there is not a righteous man on earth, who does good and doesn't sin.
21ଯାହା ତୁମ୍ଭଙ୍କୁ କୁହାୟାଇଛି, ସମସ୍ତ କଥା ରେ ମନ ଯୋଗ ଦିଅ ନାହିଁ, ନ ହେଲେ ତୁମ୍ଭର ଦାସ ତୁମ୍ଭକୁ ଅଭିଶାପ ଦବୋର ତୁମ୍ଭେ ଶୁଣିବ।
21Also don't take heed to all words that are spoken, lest you hear your servant curse you;
22କାରଣ ତୁମ୍ଭେ ଜାଣ ଯେ, ତୁମ୍ଭେ ମଧ୍ଯ ଅନ୍ୟମାନଙ୍କୁ ସପରେି ବାରମ୍ବାର ଅଭିଶାପ ଦଇେଅଛ।
22for often your own heart knows that you yourself have likewise cursed others.
23ମୁଁ ଜ୍ଞାନଦ୍ବାରା ଏସବୁ ପରୀକ୍ଷା କଲି ଏବଂ ମୁଁ କହିଲି, ମୁଁ ଜ୍ଞାନୀ ହବୋକୁ ଚା ହେଁ। ମାତ୍ର ଜ୍ଞାନ ମାରେ ଗନ୍ତବ୍ଯଠାରୁ ବହୁତ ଦୂର ରେ ଅଛି।
23All this have I proved in wisdom. I said, "I will be wise;" but it was far from me.
24ସବୁ କିଛି ଆମ୍ଭର ବୁଝାମଣାର ବାହା ରେ, ଏସବୁ କିଏ ବୁଝିପାରିବ ?
24That which is, is far off and exceedingly deep. Who can find it out?
25ମାେ ହୃଦଯ ରେ ମୁଁ ଜାଣିବାକୁ ପରୀକ୍ଷା କରିବାକୁ ଏବଂ ଜ୍ଞାନର ପଶ୍ଚାତ୍ଧାବନ କରିବାକୁ ଏବଂ ଏହାର ଉତ୍ତର ପାଇବାକୁ ମୁଁ ଚାହିଁଲି। ମୁଁ ମଧ୍ଯ ଦୁଷ୍ଟତା ଓ ବୋକାମୀକୁ ଓ ମୂର୍ଖର ପାଗଳାମିକୁ ଜାଣିବା ପାଇଁ ଚାହିଁଲି।
25I turned around, and my heart sought to know and to search out, and to seek wisdom and the scheme of things, and to know that wickedness is stupidity, and that foolishness is madness.
26ଏବଂ ମୁଁ ଦେଖିଲି, ମୂର୍ଖ ସ୍ତ୍ରୀ (ନାରୀ) ମୃତ୍ଯୁ ଅପେକ୍ଷା ତିକ୍ତ ଅଟେ। ସେ ଏକ ଶିକାରୀ ଜାଲ ପରି ଏବଂ ତା'ର ହୃଦଯ ଏକ ୟନ୍ତାପରି। ତା'ର ହସ୍ତଦ୍ବଯ ଶୃଙ୍ଖଳ ଅଟେ। ଯେ କହେି ପରମେଶ୍ବରଙ୍କୁ ସନ୍ତୁଷ୍ଟ କରେ, ସେ ତାହାଠାରୁ ରକ୍ଷା ପାଇବ। ମାତ୍ର ପାପୀ ତାହାଦ୍ବାରା ଧରାୟିବ।
26I find more bitter than death the woman whose heart is snares and traps, whose hands are chains. Whoever pleases God shall escape from her; but the sinner will be ensnared by her.
27ଉପଦେଶକ କହିଲେ, ଦେଖ, ଉତ୍ତର ପାଇବାକୁ ଗୋଟିଏ ସହିତ ଆଉ ଗୋଟିଏ ଯୋଗ କରି, ଏହା ମୁଁ ପାଇଲି।
27Behold, this have I found, says the Preacher, one to another, to find out the scheme;
28ମୁଁ ବାରମ୍ବାର ଖାଜେିଲି ଏବଂ ମୁଁ ପାଇଲି ନାହିଁ। ହଜାର ରେ ଗୋଟିଏ ପୁରୁଷ ପରମେଶ୍ବରଙ୍କୁ ସନ୍ତୁଷ୍ଟ କରୁଥିବାର ମୁଁ ପାଇଲି କିନ୍ତୁ ସମାନଙ୍କେ ମଧିଅରେ, ମୁଁ ଏକ ସ୍ତ୍ରୀ ପାଇଲି ନାହିଁ।
28which my soul still seeks; but I have not found: one man among a thousand have I found; but a woman among all those have I not found.
29ମୁଁ ଯାହା ପାଇଛି ତାକୁ ଥରେ ମାତ୍ର ଦେଖ। ପରମେଶ୍ବର ମାନବ ସମାଜକୁ ସରଳ କରି ତିଆରି କଲେ। କିନ୍ତୁ ସମାନେେ ସର୍ବଦା ନୂତନ ଯୋଜନା ଉଦ୍ଭାବନ କରିଛନ୍ତି।
29Behold, this only have I found: that God made man upright; but they search for many schemes.
