ପୁନରାଯ ବହୁତ ଲୋକ ଅତ୍ଯାଚାରିତ ହେଉଥିବାର ଓ କାନ୍ଦୁଥିବାର ମୁଁ ଦେଖିଲି। ମୁଁ ଦେଖିଲି ଯେ, ସମାନଙ୍କେୁ ସାନ୍ତ୍ବନା ଦବୋ ପାଇଁ କହେି ମଧ୍ଯ ନ ଥିଲେ। ମୁଁ କଷ୍ଟ ଭୋଗ କରୁଥିବା ଲୋକମାନଙ୍କୁ ମୁଁ ଦେଖିଲି ଓ ଶାସନ ରେ ଥିବା ଲୋକମାନଙ୍କର ନିଷ୍ଠୁରତା ମଧ୍ଯ ମୁଁ ଦେଖିଲି। ସମାନଙ୍କେ ଦ୍ବାରା ଆହତ ଲୋକମାନଙ୍କୁ କହେି ସାନ୍ତ୍ବନା ଦବୋକୁ ନ ଥିଲେ।

Then I returned and saw all the oppressions that are done under the sun: and, behold, the tears of those who were oppressed, and they had no comforter; and on the side of their oppressors there was power; but they had no comforter.

ମୁଁ ନିଷ୍ପତ୍ତି ନଲେି, ଯେ ଜୀବିତ ଲୋକମାନଙ୍କ ଅପେକ୍ଷା ମୃତ ଲୋକମାନେ ଅଧିକ ଭାଗ୍ଯବାନ୍।

Therefore I praised the dead who have been long dead more than the living who are yet alive.

ଏବଂ ୟିଏ ଆଜି ପର୍ୟ୍ଯନ୍ତ ଜନ୍ମ ହାଇନୋହିଁ, ସେ ଅନ୍ୟତର ସମାନଙ୍କେଠାରୁ ଭଲ ରେ ଅଛି, ଯେ ହତେୁ ସେ ସୂର୍ୟ୍ଯତଳେ ଯେଉଁ ସମସ୍ତ ଅମଙ୍ଗଳ ଘଟିଛି, ତାହା ଦେଖି ନାହିଁ।

Yes, better than them both is him who has not yet been, who has not seen the evil work that is done under the sun.

ଏହାପ ରେ ମୁଁ ଭାବିଲି, କାହିଁକି ଲୋକମାନେ କଠିନ ପରିଶ୍ରମ କରନ୍ତି। ମୁଁ ଦେଖିଲି ଲୋକମାନେ ଜୀବନ ରେ ଉପରକୁ ଉଠିବା ପାଇଁ ଓ ଅନ୍ୟମାନଙ୍କଠାରୁ ଭଲ ରହିବା ପାଇଁ କଠିନ ପରିଶ୍ରମ କରନ୍ତି। କାରଣ, ଲୋକମାନେ ଈର୍ଷାଳୁ ଅଟନ୍ତି ଏବଂ ସମାନେେ କବେେ ଚାହାଁନ୍ତି ନାହିଁ ଯେ, ଅନ୍ୟମାନେ ତା'ଠାରୁ ଅଧିକ ପାଆନ୍ତୁ। ଏହା ଅସାର ଅଟେ। ଏହା ପବନକୁ ଧରିବା ପାଇଁ ଚେଷ୍ଟା କରିବା ତୁଲ୍ଯ ଅଟେ।

Then I saw all the labor and achievement that is the envy of a man's neighbor. This also is vanity and a striving after wind.

କିଛି ଲୋକ କହନ୍ତି, ମୂର୍ଖମାନେ ହସ୍ତ ବାନ୍ଧି ବସନ୍ତି। ଯଦି ତୁମ୍ଭେ ପରିଶ୍ରମ ନ କର, ତବେେ ତୁମ୍କେ ଉପବାସ ରେ ମୃତ୍ଯୁ ଭୋଗ କରିବ।

The fool folds his hands together and ruins himself.

ସଂଘର୍ଷ କରି ଦୁଇହାତ ପୂର୍ଣ୍ଣ କର। ପବନକୁ ଧରିବାକୁ ଚେଷ୍ଟା କରିବାଠାରୁ ମନର ଶାନ୍ତି, ସୁଖ ପାଇଁ ଗୋଟିଏ ହାତ ମୁଠି ଭଲ।

Better is a handful, with quietness, than two handfuls with labor and chasing after wind.

ଏହାପ ରେ ମୁଁ ପୁନରାଯ ସୂର୍ୟ୍ଯ ତଳେ ଅସାର ଦେଖିଲି।

Then I returned and saw vanity under the sun.

ଯଦି କୌଣସି ଲୋକ ଏକାକି ଥାଏ ଓ ତାହାର ଦ୍ବିତୀୟ କହେି ନାହିଁ, ତା'ର ପୁତ୍ର ଏବଂ ଭ୍ରାତା କହେି ନାହିଁ। ତଥାପି ତାହାର ପରିଶ୍ରମର ସୀମା ନାହିଁ, ତା'ର ଚକ୍ଷୁ କିଅବା ତା'ର ଧନ ରେ ତୃପ୍ତ ନୁହେଁ। କିନ୍ତୁ ସେ ନିଜକୁ ପଚା ରେ ନାହିଁ ଯେ, କାହିଁକି ମୁଁ ଏତେ କଠିନ କାର୍ୟ୍ଯ କରୁଛି ? କାହିଁକି ମୁଁ ମାରେ ଜୀବନକୁ ଉପ ଭୋଗ କରିବି ନାହିଁ ? ଏହା ମଧ୍ଯ ଅସାର ଓ ଅତ୍ଯନ୍ତ କ୍ଲେଶ ଜନକ।

There is one who is alone, and he has neither son nor brother. There is no end to all of his labor, neither are his eyes satisfied with wealth. For whom then, do I labor, and deprive my soul of enjoyment? This also is vanity, yes, it is a miserable business.

ଏକ ଜଣରୁ ଦୁଇଜଣ ଭଲ। କାରଣ ସମାନେେ ଆପଣା ଆପଣା ପରିଶ୍ରମର ଉତ୍ତମ ଫଳ ପ୍ରାପ୍ତ ହୁଅନ୍ତି।

Two are better than one, because they have a good reward for their labor.

ଯଦି ଜଣେ ବ୍ଯକ୍ତି ପଡ଼ିୟାଏ, ତବେେ ତା'ର ସାଙ୍ଗ ତାକୁ ଉଠାଇବାକୁ ସାହାୟ୍ଯ କରିବ। ମାତ୍ର ଯେ ପଡ଼ିବା ବେଳେ ଏକାକୀ ଥାଏ, ତାକୁ ଉଠାଇବା ପାଇଁ ଅନ୍ୟ କହେି ସଠାେ ରେ ନ ଥାଏ।

For if they fall, the one will lift up his fellow; but woe to him who is alone when he falls, and doesn't have another to lift him up.

ଆହୁରି ଦୁଇଜଣ ଏକତ୍ର ଶଯନ କଲେ ଉଷ୍ମ ହୁଅନ୍ତି ମାତ୍ର ଜଣେ କିରୂପେ ଉଷ୍ମ ହାଇପୋରିବ।

Again, if two lie together, then they have warmth; but how can one keep warm alone?

ଯେକହେି ଏକାକୀ ଥିବା ଲୋକକୁ ପରାସ୍ତ କରେ, ତବେେ ଦୁଇଜଣ ତାହାର ପ୍ରତିବାଦ କରିବେ। ପୁଣି ତ୍ରିଗୁଣ ରଜ୍ଜୁ ଶୀଘ୍ର ଛିଣ୍ଡିୟାଏ ନାହିଁ।

If a man prevails against one who is alone, two shall withstand him; and a threefold cord is not quickly broken.

ଯେଉଁ ବୃଦ୍ଧ ଓ ନିର୍ ବୋଧ ରାଜା ଆଉ କୌଣସି ପରାମର୍ଶ ଗ୍ରହଣ ନ କରିବାକୁ ଚା ହେଁ। ତାହା ଅପେକ୍ଷା ଦରିଦ୍ର ଓ ଜ୍ଞାନବାନ୍ ୟୁବା ଲୋକ ଭଲ।

Better is a poor and wise youth than an old and foolish king who doesn't know how to receive admonition any more.

କାରଣ ସେ ରାଜା ହବୋ ପାଇଁ କାରାଗାରରୁ ବାହାର ହାଇେ ଆସିଲା। ଆହୁରି ସେ ତାହାର ରାଜ୍ଯ ରେ ଦରିଦ୍ର ହାଇେ ଜନ୍ମିଥିଲା।

For out of prison he came forth to be king; yes, even in his kingdom he was born poor.
15
ମୁଁ ଦେଖିପାରୁଛି ଯେ, ପୃଥିବୀ ରେ ସୂର୍ୟ୍ଯତଳେ ଯେଉଁ ସମସ୍ତ ଲୋକମାନେ ବାସ କରୁଛନ୍ତି ଓ ୟାତାଯତ କରୁଛନ୍ତି, ସମାନେେ ପରବର୍ତ୍ତୀ ୟୁବକକୁ ଅନୁସରଣ କଲେ, ୟିଏକି ତା'ର ସାଙ୍ଗ, ତାଙ୍କର ସ୍ଥାନ ନବେେ।

I saw all the living who walk under the sun, that they were with the youth, the other, who succeeded him.

ଅସଂଖ୍ଯ ଲୋକ ଉତ୍ତରାଧିକାରୀଙ୍କୁ ଅନୁସରଣ କରିବେ ଏବଂ ଯେଉଁ ଲୋକମାନେ ପ ରେ ଆସିବେ ସମାନେେ ସହେି ପ୍ରଥମ ଜ୍ଞାନୀ ୟୁବକକୁ ପ୍ରଶଂସା କରିବେ ନାହିଁ। ଏହା ମଧ୍ଯ ଅସାର ଓ ପବନର ପଶ୍ଚାତ୍ ଗମନ କଲା ପରି।

There was no end of all the people, even of all them over whom he was�yet those who come after shall not rejoice in him. Surely this also is vanity and a chasing after wind.
