1ग्रीष्म ऋतुमा हिउँ र्बषनु राम्रो होइन, बाली काटूने समयमा पानी र्बषनु ठीक होइन अनि त्यसरी नै मूर्खलाई सम्मान गर्नु अनुचित हो।
1Like snow in summer, and as rain in harvest, So honor is not fitting for a fool.
2तिमीले कसैको हानी नगरी उसले तिमीलाई सराप्छ भने उसको त्यो श्राप तिमी माथिबाट कुनै चंचल चरा उडेर गए जस्तै हो।
2Like a fluttering sparrow, Like a darting swallow, So the undeserved curse doesn't come to rest.
3जसरी घोडा चाबुकले काबुमा आउँछ, खच्चर लगामले आउँछ, त्यसरीनै एकजना मूर्ख डण्डाले काबूमा आउँछ।
3A whip for the horse, A bridle for the donkey, And a rod for the back of fools!
4मूर्खलाई त्यसको मूर्खता अनुसारको उत्तर नदेऊ, नत्रभने तिमी पनि मूर्ख हुनेछौ।
4Don't answer a fool according to his folly, Lest you also be like him.
5एउटा मूर्खलाई उसको मूर्खतापूर्ण उत्तर देऊ तर पनि उसले आफैंलाई ज्ञानी सम्झिन्छ।
5Answer a fool according to his folly, Lest he be wise in his own eyes.
6मूर्खलाई दूत बनाई पठाउनु, आफ्नो घुँडामा बन्चरोले हान्नु अथवा जानी-जानी विपद ल्याउनु जस्तो हुन्छ।
6One who sends a message by the hand of a fool Is cutting off feet and drinking violence.
7मूर्खको मुखमा एउटा हितोपदेश हुनु लङ्गडो मानिसका झुण्डिएका लुला गोडा जस्तै हो।
7Like the legs of the lame that hang loose: So is a parable in the mouth of fools.
8मूर्खलाई सम्मान गर्नु त्यति नै खराब हो जति एउटा घुयेंत्रोमा ढुङ्गा बाँध्नु हो।
8As one who binds a stone in a sling, So is he who gives honor to a fool.
9मूर्खले केही हितोपदेश कुरा गर्न चाहानु, मातेर चुर भएको मानिसले हातमा बिजेको काँडा निकाल्नु खोज्नु जस्तै हो।
9Like a thornbush that goes into the hand of a drunkard, So is a parable in the mouth of fools.
10कुनै मूर्खलाई अथवा नचिनेको मानिसलाई काम अह्राउनु विपद मोल्नु हो। तिमीलाई थाहा हुँदैन कता नोक्सान हुन्छ।
10As an archer who wounds all, So is he who hires a fool Or he who hires those who pass by.
11कुकुरले केही खाएर बिमार भयो भने त्यसले उल्टी गर्छ औ केही समय पछि त्यही उल्टी खान्छ। मूर्ख मानिस पनि त्यस्तै हो औ त्यसले पनि एउटै काम घरी-घरी गरिरहन्छ।
11As a dog that returns to his vomit, So is a fool who repeats his folly.
12यदि कोही मानिस ज्ञानी होइन तर आफैंलाई ज्ञानी मान्छ भने त्यो जत्तिको मूर्ख अर्को हुँदैन।ज्
12Do you see a man wise in his own eyes? There is more hope for a fool than for him.
13अल्छेले भन्छ, “सडकमा सिंह बसेकोछ, यसकारण म घरबाट निस्कन सक्तिनँ।”
13The sluggard says, "There is a lion in the road! A fierce lion roams the streets!"
14अल्छे मानिस कही जाँदैन, ढोका आफ्नो कब्जामा अल्झेर यता उति भइरहेको झैं, अल्छे आफ्नो ओछ्यानमा यता उति पल्टि रहन्छ।
14As the door turns on its hinges, So does the sluggard on his bed.
15अल्छे मानिसलाई यति अल्छी लाग्छ कि उसलाई आफ्नो थालबाट गाँस उठाउनु पनि गाह्रो पर्छ।
15The sluggard buries his hand in the dish. He is too lazy to bring it back to his mouth.
16एउटा अल्छेले आफैंलाई बुद्धिमान सम्झन्छ। उसले आफैंलाई विवेकपूर्ण जवाफ दिने ती सात जाना बुद्धिमान मानिसहरू भन्दा पनि ज्ञानी सम्झन्छ।
16The sluggard is wiser in his own eyes Than seven men who answer with discretion.
17दुईजना मानिसहरूको विवादमा पक्ष लिनु त्यति नै विपद जनक हो जति गल्लीमा कुकुरको कान तानेर हिडनु।
17Like one who grabs a dog's ears Is one who passes by and meddles in a quarrel not his own.
18छिमेकीलाई धोका दिनु अनि त्यस पछि त्यो मैले दिल्लगी गरेको”
18Like a madman who shoots firebrands, arrows, and death,
19भनेर भन्ने मानिस एकजना पागल मानिस जसले प्राणनाशक काँडहरू हान्छ।
19Is the man who deceives his neighbor and says, "Am I not joking?"
20जसरी दाउराविना आगो बल्दैन त्यसरी नै बदनाम गराउनेलाई हटाइन्छ भने झगडा आफैं अन्त हुनेछ।
20For lack of wood a fire goes out; Without gossip, a quarrel dies down.
21जस्तो कोइलाले अंगारलाई अनि दाउराले ज्वालालाई चम्काउँछ त्यस्तै झगडालु मानिसले झगडा चम्काउँछ।
21As coals are to hot embers, And wood to fire, So is a contentious man to kindling strife.
22बद्नाम गराउने शब्दहरू त्यतिकै स्वादिष्ट हुन्छन् जतिको मानिसहरूको पेटमा जाने भोजन हुन्छ।
22The words of a whisperer are as dainty morsels, They go down into the innermost parts.
23माटोको भाँडोमा चाँदीको जलप लगाएझैं दुष्ट जाली मानिसको ओंठमा चिप्लो कुरा हुन्छ।
23Like silver dross on an earthen vessel Are the lips of a fervent one with an evil heart.
24द्वेषपूर्ण मानिसले उसका मिठा कुराहरूले आफ्नो दोषलाई ढाक्छ तर उसले दोषलाई आफ्नो हृदयमा पालेको हुन्छ।
24A malicious man disguises himself with his lips, But he harbors evil in his heart.
25उसको मिठो कुरामा विश्वास नगर, किनभने उस भित्र सातओटा घिनलाग्दो विचारहरू जागिरहेको हुन्छन्।
25When his speech is charming, don't believe him; For there are seven abominations in his heart:
26उसले उसको द्वेष छलहरूद्वारा लुकाउन सकेतापर्नी उसको दुष्टता सबैको सामुन्ने प्रकट हुन्छ।
26His malice may be concealed by deception, But his wickedness will be exposed in the assembly.
27अर्कालाई जाक्नु खाडल खन्ने मानिस आफैं त्यही खाडलमा पर्छ। अरूलाई ढुङ्ग पल्टाउने मानिस आफैं ढुङ्गले चेपिएर मर्छ।
27Whoever digs a pit shall fall into it. Whoever rolls a stone, it will come back on him.
28जुन मानिसले झूटो बोल्छ, त्यसले आफूले हानि पुर्याएको मनिसहरूलाई नै घिनाउँछ, अनि एउटा मानिस जसले चाप्लुसी गर्छ उसले आफैंलाई हानी गर्छ।
28A lying tongue hates those it hurts; And a flattering mouth works ruin.
