1यदि तिमी कुनै अधिकृतसित भोजनमा बसेको छौ भने याद राख तिमी कसको अघि छौ।
1When you sit to eat with a ruler, Consider diligently what is before you;
2तिमी धेरै खाने गर्थ्यौ भने पनि तिमीले आफूलाई नियन्त्रणमा राख्नु पर्छ।
2Put a knife to your throat, If you are a man given to appetite.
3उसको स्वादिलो भोजनद्वारा परिक्षीत नहोउ किनभने उसको भोजन छलपूर्ण हुन्छ।-7-
3Don't be desirous of his dainties, Seeing they are deceitful food.
4धनी बन्न चेष्टा गर्दै आफैंलाई नथकाऊ। यदि तिमी बुद्धिमानी छौ भने तिमीले यस्तो गर्न बन्द गर।
4Don't weary yourself to be rich. In your wisdom, show restraint.
5धन-सम्पत्ति हेर्दा-हेर्दा शेष भएर जान्छ। धन सम्पत्ति आफ्नो पंखेटा फैलाएर उडेर जाने चरा झैं आकाशमा जान्छ।-8-
5Why do you set your eyes on that which is not? For it certainly sprouts wings like an eagle and flies in the sky.
6एउटा कञ्जूस मानिस सित भोजन नखाऊ। उसको घरमा पकाएको स्वादिलो भोजनको इच्छा नगर।
6Don't eat the food of him who has a stingy eye, And don't crave his delicacies:
7त्यो यस्तो मानिस हो जो आफ्नो भोजनको मोल लगाई रहन्छ। तिमीलाई त भन्छ, “तिमी खाऊ, मस्त भई खाऊ,” तर त्यो उसको मनभित्रबाट भनेको होइन।
7For as he thinks about the cost, so he is. "Eat and drink!" he says to you, But his heart is not with you.
8तिमीले अलिकति खाएको पनि उकेलि दिने छौ अनि तिमीले उसलाई गरेका प्रशंसाहरू व्यर्थ भएर जान्छन्।-9-
8The morsel which you have eaten you shall vomit up, And lose your good words.
9मूर्खले तिम्रा ज्ञानी वचनहरूलाई घृणा गर्छ, मूर्खसित कुरा नगर।-10-
9Don't speak in the ears of a fool, For he will despise the wisdom of your words.
10जमीनमा पुरानो सिमाना भए त्यसलाई सार्ने प्रयास नगर। टुहुरा-टुहुरीहरूको जमीन जबरजस्ती दखल नगर।
10Don't move the ancient boundary stone. Don't encroach on the fields of the fatherless:
11किनभने परमप्रभु ती अनाथहरूको शक्तिशाली संरक्षक हुनु हुन्छ जसले अनाथहरूको पक्षमा तिमीसित अदालतमा लडनु हुन्छ।-11-
11For their Defender is strong. He will plead their case against you.
12तिमीहरूको विचारलाई अनुशासनमा लगाऊ अनि ज्ञानको शिक्षाहरूमा ध्यान देऊ।-12-
12Apply your heart to instruction, And your ears to the words of knowledge.
13आवश्यकता अनुसार नानीलाई सधैं सजाय देऊ। सजाय दिदाँ त्यो मर्दैन।
13Don't withhold correction from a child. If you punish him with the rod, he will not die.
14यदि तिमीले उसलाई सजाय दियौ भने, तिमीले उसलाई चिहानबाट रक्षा गर्ने छौ।-13-
14Punish him with the rod, And save his soul from Sheol.
15हे मेरो छोरो, तिमी बुद्धिमान् भयौ भने म खुशी हुनेछु।
15My son, if your heart is wise, Then my heart will be glad, even mine:
16यदि तिमीले सही कुराहरू गरेको सुन्न पाए म हृदयबाट नै खुशी हुने थिँए।
16Yes, my heart will rejoice, When your lips speak what is right.
17पापीहरूको ईर्ष्या नगर। तर सबै समयमा, परमप्रभुलाई सम्मान गर।
17Don't let your heart envy sinners; But rather fear Yahweh all the day long.
18तब तिम्रो एउटा भविष्य हुन्छ, तिम्रो आशा कहिल्यै हराउने छैन।-15-
18Indeed surely there is a future hope, And your hope will not be cut off.
19मेरो छोरो, सुन र ज्ञानी बन! सधैं सही बाटोमा हिडने कुरा ख्याल गर।
19Listen, my son, and be wise, And keep your heart on the right path!
20धेरै भोजन गर्ने तथा दाखरस पिउँने मानिस सित मित्रता नराख।
20Don't be among ones drinking too much wine, Or those who gorge themselves on meat:
21जुन मानिसले धेरै खान्छ अनि धेरै पिउँछ भने गरीब हुन्छ। उसको उडाइले उसलाई थोत्रो लुगा लगाउने बनाई दिन्छ।-19-
21For the drunkard and the glutton shall become poor; And drowsiness clothes them in rags.
22तिम्रा बाबु जसले तिमीलाई जीवन दिए उनको बचनहरू सुन। तिम्री आमा भनेर उनलाई हेला नगर।
22Listen to your father who gave you life, And don't despise your mother when she is old.
23सत्यतालाई किन अनि यसलाई नबेच। ज्ञान, अनुशासन अनि समझ शक्तिलाई पनि किन।
23Buy the truth, and don't sell it: Get wisdom, discipline, and understanding.
24इमान्दार मानिसका बाबु अति सुखी मानिस हुन। यदि कुनै मानिसको बुद्धिमान नानी छ, भने त्यस नानीले घरमा खुशीयाली ल्याउँछ।
24The father of the righteous has great joy. Whoever fathers a wise child delights in him.
25यसर्थ तिम्रा आमा-बाबु तिमी सित खुशी भई बसुन्। तिम्री आमाले आनन्द पाउन।-17-
25Let your father and your mother be glad! Let her who bore you rejoice!
26हे मेरो छोरो! म जे भन्दैछु अलिक ध्यान दिएर सुन। मैले भनेका कुराहरू स्वीकार गर।
26My son, give me your heart; And let your eyes keep in my ways.
27एउटी वेश्या एक गहिरो खाडल जस्तो हो एक व्यभिचारिणी स्त्री, एक साँधुरो इनार जस्तो हो।
27For a prostitute is a deep pit; And a wayward wife is a narrow well.
28एउटा खराब आइमाई डाँकुले झैं बाटो ढुकेर वस्छे अनि धेरै मानिसहरूलाई अविश्वासी बनाउँछे।-18-
28Yes, she lies in wait like a robber, And increases the unfaithful among men.
29कसको दयनीयता छ? कसको दुःख छ? को कष्टमा डुबेकोछ? को झगडा टंटामा फँसेकोछ? बिना कारण कसले चोट पाएको छ? कसको आँखा राता भएका छन्?
29Who has woe? Who has sorrow? Who has strife? Who has complaints? Who has needless bruises? Who has bloodshot eyes?
30तिनीहरू ती हुन् जो रात दिन दाखरसको सेवनमा बिताउछन अनि जो मिश्रित मद्य चाख्न भोजनहरूमा जान्छन्।
30Those who stay long at the wine; Those who go to seek out mixed wine.
31दाखरसद्वारा दाखको रातो रंगद्वारा यसको प्याला भित्रको चमकद्वारा सम्मोहित नहोऊ। यो बिना अवरोध घाँटीबाट तल स्वाट्टै जान्छ।
31Don't look at the wine when it is red, When it sparkles in the cup, When it goes down smoothly:
32तर अन्तमा यसले सर्पले झैं डस्छ गोप्य विष भएको विषालु सर्पले झैं डस्छ गोप्य विष भएको विषालु सर्पले झैं डस्छ।
32In the end, it bites like a snake, And poisons like a viper.
33तिमीले विचित्र चीजहरू देख्ने छौ। भ्रान्त विचार, तिम्रो मनमा कूद्ने छन्।
33Your eyes will see strange things, And your mind will imagine confusing things.
34तिमीलाई यस्तो लाग्नेछ महासमुद्रको माथिल्लो सतहमा सुतिरहेछौ, तिमी जहाज माथि सुतिरहेछौ।
34Yes, you will be as he who lies down in the midst of the sea, Or as he who lies on top of the rigging:
35तिमी भन्छौ तिनीहरूले मलाई हिर्काए मैले अनुभव गरिनँ, तिनीहरूले पिटे तर मलाई थाहा भएन। म कति वेला ब्यूँझन्छु? म जान्छु अनि अर्का मद्य पिउँछु।-19-
35"They hit me, and I was not hurt; They beat me, and I don't feel it! When will I wake up? I can do it again. I can find another."
