परमेश्वर मोशेला म्हणाला,
1
Yahweh spoke to Moses, saying,
2
“कनान देश हेरण्यासाठी काही लोकांना पाठव. हाच देश मी इस्राएल लोकांना देणार आहे. त्यांच्या बारा वंशानुसार प्रत्येकी एका नेत्याला पाठव.”

Send you men, that they may spy out the land of Canaan, which I give to the children of Israel: of every tribe of their fathers shall you send a man, everyone a prince among them.

तेव्हा मोशेने परमेश्वराची आज्ञा मानून, लोक पारानच्या वाळवंटात असताना हे नेते पाठविले.

Moses sent them from the wilderness of Paran according to the commandment of Yahweh: all of them men who were heads of the children of Israel.

त्यांची नांवे अशी आहेत:रऊबेन वंशातला जक्कुराचा मुलगा शम्मुवा.

These were their names: Of the tribe of Reuben, Shammua the son of Zaccur.

शिमोन वंशातला होरीचा मुलगा शाफाट.

Of the tribe of Simeon, Shaphat the son of Hori.

यहुदा वंशातला यफुन्नेचा मुलगा कालेब.

Of the tribe of Judah, Caleb the son of Jephunneh.
7
इस्साखार वंशातला योसेफाचा मुलगा इगाल.

Of the tribe of Issachar, Igal the son of Joseph.
8
एफ्राईम वंशातला नूनाचा मुलगा होशा.

Of the tribe of Ephraim, Hoshea the son of Nun.

बन्यामीन वंशातला सोदीचा मुलगा पलटी,

Of the tribe of Benjamin, Palti the son of Raphu.

जबुलून वंशातला सोदीचा मुलगा गद्दीयेल,

Of the tribe of Zebulun, Gaddiel the son of Sodi.

योसेफ वंशातला (मनश्शे) - सूसीचा मुलगा गद्दी,

Of the tribe of Joseph, namely, of the tribe of Manasseh, Gaddi the son of Susi.

दान वंशातला गमल्लीचा मुलगा अम्मीयेल,

Of the tribe of Dan, Ammiel the son of Gemalli.

आशोर वंशातला मीकाएलाचा मुलगा सतूर,

Of the tribe of Asher, Sethur the son of Michael.
14
नफताली वंशातला बाप्सीचा मुलगा नहब्बी.

Of the tribe of Naphtali, Nahbi the son of Vophsi.
15
आणि गाद वंशातला माकीचा मुलगा गऊवेल.

Of the tribe of Gad, Geuel the son of Machi.

मोशेने देश हेरावयास पाठविलेल्या लोकांची ही नांवे होती. “(मोशेने नूनाचा मुलगा होशा ह्याचे नांव यहोशवा असे ठेविले.)

These are the names of the men who Moses sent to spy out the land. Moses called Hoshea the son of Nun Joshua.

मोशेने कनान देश हेरण्यास पाठविताना लोकांना सांगितले की तुम्ही येथून नेगेबमधून निघा आणि मग डोंगराळ प्रदेशात जा.

Moses sent them to spy out the land of Canaan, and said to them, Go up this way by the South, and go up into the hill-country:
18
देश कसा आहे? तेथील लोक कसे आहेत! ते बलवान आहेत किंवा दुबळे आहेत? ते थोडे आहेत किंवा फार आहेत? ते पाहा व समजून घ्या.

and see the land, what it is; and the people who dwell therein, whether they are strong or weak, whether they are few or many;
19
ते राहतात तो देश कसा आहे? तो चांगला आहे किंवा वाईट आहे? ते लोक कशा प्रकारच्या नगरात राहतात? संरक्षणासाठी त्या नगरांभोवती कोट आहेत का? त्या नगरांची संरक्षण व्यवस्था बलवान आहे का? ह्या सर्व गोष्टी पाहा व समजून घ्या. तेथील जमीन पीक घेण्यास

and what the land is that they dwell in, whether it is good or bad; and what cities they are that they dwell in, whether in camps, or in strongholds;
20
योग्य आहे का? त्या प्रदेशात झाडे आहेत का? तेथील काही फळे बरोबर घेऊन या.” (हे पहिली द्राक्षे पिकण्याच्या वेळी घडले.)

and what the land is, whether it is fat or lean, whether there is wood therein, or not. Be of good courage, and bring of the fruit of the land. Now the time was the time of the first-ripe grapes.

म्हणून ते तो प्रदेश शोधायला निघाले. त्यांनी सीन वाळवंटापासून रहोब आणि लेबोहामाथपर्यंतच्या प्रदेशाचा शोध घेतला.

So they went up, and spied out the land from the wilderness of Zin to Rehob, to the entrance of Hamath.
22
त्यांनी नेगेवमधून त्या प्रदेशात प्रवेश केला आणि ते हेब्रोनला गेले. (हेब्रोन शहर मिसर देशातल्या सोअन शहराच्या सात वर्षे आधी बांधले होते.) अहीमन शेशय आणि तलमय हे अनाकाचे वंशज तेथे राहात होते.

They went up by the South, and came to Hebron; and Ahiman, Sheshai, and Talmai, the children of Anak, were there. (Now Hebron was built seven years before Zoan in Egypt.)

नंतर ते लोक अष्कोलच्या खोऱ्यात गेले. तेथे त्यांनी द्राक्षाच्या वेलीची एक फांदी तोडली. त्या फांदली द्राक्षाचा घड लागलेला होता. त्यांनी ती फांदी एका खांबावर ठेवली आणि दोघे जण ती आपल्या मधोमध ठेवून घेऊन गेले. त्यांनी बरोबर काही डाळींबे व अंजीर ही घेतली.

They came to the valley of Eshcol, and cut down from there a branch with one cluster of grapes, and they bore it on a staff between two; they brought also of the pomegranates, and of the figs.

त्या जागेला अष्कोल खोरे असे म्हणतात कारण तिथे इस्राएल लोकांनी द्राक्षाचा घड तोडला होता.

That place was called the valley of Eshcol, because of the cluster which the children of Israel cut down from there.
25
त्या लोकांनी त्या प्रदेशाचा 40 दिवस शोध घेतला. नंतर ते आपल्या छावणीत परत गेले.

They returned from spying out the land at the end of forty days.

इस्राएल लोकांची छावणी पारानच्या वाळवंटात कादेशजवळ होती ते लोक मोशे, अहरोन आणि इस्राएलच्या सर्व लोकांजवळ गेले. त्यांनी मोशे, अहरोन आणि इतर लोकांना त्यांनी पाहिलेल्या गोष्टीविषयी सांगितले आणि त्या प्रदेशातली फळे त्यांना दाखवली.

They went and came to Moses, and to Aaron, and to all the congregation of the children of Israel, to the wilderness of Paran, to Kadesh; and brought back word to them, and to all the congregation, and shown them the fruit of the land.
27
ते लोक मोशेला म्हणाले, “तू आम्हाला पाठवलेस त्या प्रदेशात आम्ही गेलो. तो प्रदेश अनेक चांगल्या गोष्टींनी भरलेलाआहे. त्या प्रदेशात होणारी ही काही फळे पाहा.

They told him, and said, We came to the land where you sent us; and surely it flows with milk and honey; and this is the fruit of it.
28
पण तेथे राहणारे लोक खूप शक्तिशाली आहेत. शहरे खूप मोठी आहेत. शहरांचे रक्षण चांगल्या प्रकारे होते. काही अनाकांच्या वंशाजानाही आम्ही पाहिले.

However the people who dwell in the land are strong, and the cities are fortified, and very great: and moreover we saw the children of Anak there.
29
अमालेकी लोक नेगेबमध्ये राहतात. हित्ती, यबूसी आणि अमोरी डोंगराळ भागात राहतात. आणि कनानी लोक समुद्राजवळ आणि यार्देन नदीच्या काठावर राहतात.”

Amalek dwells in the land of the South: and the Hittite, and the Jebusite, and the Amorite, dwell in the hill-country; and the Canaanite dwells by the sea, and along by the side of the Jordan.

मोशेजवळच्या लोकांना गप्प बसायला सांगून कालेब म्हणाला, “परत जाऊन तो प्रदेश आपण घ्यायला पाहिजे. आपण तो प्रदेश सहज घेऊ शकू.”

Caleb stilled the people before Moses, and said, Let us go up at once, and possess it; for we are well able to overcome it.
31
पण जे लोक त्याच्याबरोबर तेथे गेले होते ते म्हणाले, “आपण त्यांच्याशी लढू शकणार नाही. ते आपल्यापेक्षा खूप शक्तिशाली आहेत.

But the men who went up with him said, We aren't able to go up against the people; for they are stronger than we.
32
आणि त्या माणसांनी इस्राएलच्या सर्व लोकांना सांगितले की त्या प्रदेशातल्या लोकांचा पराभव करण्याइतके शक्तिशाली आपण नाहीत. ते म्हणाले, “आम्ही जो प्रदेश पाहिला तो शक्तिशाली लोकांनी भरलेला आहे. ते लोक तिथे जाणाऱ्या कुठल्याही माणसाचा सहज पराभव करण्याइतके शक्तिमान आहेत.

They brought up an evil report of the land which they had spied out to the children of Israel, saying, The land, through which we have gone to spy it out, is a land that eats up the inhabitants of it; and all the people who we saw in it are men of great stature.
33
आम्ही तिथे खूप नेफीलीम लोक पाहिले. (अनाकाचे वंशज नेफीलीम लोकांपासून आलेले आहेत) त्यांनी आमच्याकडे आम्ही जणू नाकतोडे आहोत अशा नजरेने पाहिले. होय! त्यांच्या दृष्टीने आम्ही नाकतोडेच होतो.”

There we saw the Nephilim, the sons of Anak, who come of the Nephilim: and we were in our own sight as grasshoppers, and so we were in their sight.
