1यहूदीयातील बेथलहेम गावात येशूचा जन्म झाला. त्यावेळी हेरोद राजा राज्य करीत होता. येशूच्या जन्मानंतर पूर्वेकडून काही ज्ञानी लोक यरूशलेमाला आले.
1Now when Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judea in the days of Herod the king, behold, wise men from the east came to Jerusalem, saying,
2आणि त्यांनी विचारले, “यहूद्यांचा नुकताच जन्मलेला राजा कोठे आहे? कारण त्याचा जन्म सूचित करणारा तारा आम्ही पूर्व दिशेस पाहिला म्हाणून त्याला नमन करण्यास आलो आहोत.”
2"Where is he who is born King of the Jews? For we saw his star in the east, and have come to worship him."
3हे ऐकून हेरोद राजा तसेच यरुशलेम नगराचे रहिवासी घाबरुन गेले.
3When Herod the king heard it, he was troubled, and all Jerusalem with him.
4मग त्याने यहूदी लोकांचे सर्व मुख्य याजक व नियमशास्त्राचे शिक्षक यांना बोलाविले आणि विचारले की, “ख्रिस्ताचा जन्म कोठे होणार होता?”
4Gathering together all the chief priests and scribes of the people, he asked them where the Christ would be born.
5त्यांनी उत्तर दिले, “यहूदीयातील बेथलेहेम गावात. कारण देवाच्या संदेष्टयांनी त्याविषयी असे लिहिले आहे की:
5They said to him, "In Bethlehem of Judea, for thus it is written through the prophet,
6“हे बेथलहेमा, यहूद्यांच्या भूमिप्रदेशा, तू यहूद्यांच्या राज्यकर्त्यामध्ये कनिष्ठ आहेस असे मुळीच नाही कारण माझ्या इस्राएल लोकांचा सांभाळ करील, असा राज्यकर्ता तुझ्यातून येईल.”
6'You Bethlehem, land of Judah, Are in no way least among the princes of Judah: For out of you shall come forth a governor, Who shall shepherd my people, Israel.'"
7मग हेरोदाने पूर्वेकडील ज्ञानी लोकांची गुप्तपणे भेट घेतली आणि तारा दिसल्याची नक्की वेळ माहीत करून घेतली.
7Then Herod secretly called the wise men, and learned from them exactly what time the star appeared.
8नंतर त्याने त्यांना बेथलहेमला पाठविले. हेरोद त्यांना म्हणाला, “तुम्ही जाऊन त्या बालकाचा नीट शोध करा. आणि तुम्हांला ते सापडल्यावर मला सांगायला या. म्हणजे मी सुद्धा जाऊन त्याला नमन करू शकेन.”
8He sent them to Bethlehem, and said, "Go and search diligently for the young child. When you have found him, bring me word, so that I also may come and worship him."
9ज्ञानी लोकांनी राजाचे म्हणणे ऐकले व ते निघाले, त्यांनी जो तारा पूर्वेला होता तोच त्यांना परत दिसला. ज्ञानी लोक त्या ताऱ्याच्या मागे गेले. जेथे बाळ होते ते ठिकाण येईपर्यंत तारा त्यांच्यासमोर जात होता. मग त्या ठिकाणावर तो थांबला.
9They, having heard the king, went their way; and behold, the star, which they saw in the east, went before them, until it came and stood over where the young child was.
10ज्ञानी लोकांना ते पाहून फार आनंद झाला.
10When they saw the star, they rejoiced with exceedingly great joy.
11ज्ञानी लोक बाळ होते त्या गोठ्यात आले. त्यांनी बाळ व त्याची आई मरीया हिला पाहिले. त्यांनी लवून त्या बालकाला नमन केले. नंतर त्यांनी बाळासाठी आणालेल्या भेटवस्तु काढल्या. त्यांनी बाळाला सोने, ऊद व गंधरस ह्या बहुमोल वस्तु दिल्या.
11They came into the house and saw the young child with Mary, his mother, and they fell down and worshiped him. Opening their treasures, they offered to him gifts: gold, frankincense, and myrrh.
12पण देवाने स्वप्नाद्वारे त्या ज्ञानी लोकांना सावध केले आणि हेरोदाकडे परत जाऊ नका असे सांगिले. तेव्हा ते ज्ञानी लोक वेगव्व्या मार्गाने आपल्या देशास परतले.
12Being warned in a dream that they shouldn't return to Herod, they went back to their own country another way.
13ज्ञानी लोक गेल्यानंतर, प्रभूचा दूत स्वप्नात येऊन योसेफाला म्हणाला, “ऊठ! बालकाला आणि त्याच्या आईला घेऊन निसटून इजिप्त देशास जा. कारण बाळाचा घात करण्यासाठी हेरोद त्याचा शोध घेणार आहे, तेव्हा मी तुला धोका टळल्याची सूचना देईपर्यंत इजिप्तमध्येच राहा.”
13Now when they had departed, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared to Joseph in a dream, saying, "Arise and take the young child and his mother, and flee into Egypt, and stay there until I tell you, for Herod will seek the young child to destroy him."
14तेव्हा तो उठाला व रात्रीच बाळाला व त्याच्या आईला घेऊन इजिप्त देशास गेला.
14He arose and took the young child and his mother by night, and departed into Egypt,
15आणि हेरोद मरेपर्यंत तेथेच राहिला. प्रभु देवाने संदेष्ट्याच्या द्वारे सांगितले होते की, ‘मी माझ्या मुलाला इजिप्त देशातून बोलाविले आहे’ते पूर्ण व्हावे म्हणून असे झाले.
15and was there until the death of Herod; that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the Lord through the prophet, saying, "Out of Egypt I called my son."
16तेव्हा ज्ञानी लोकांनी आपल्याला फसविले, हे पाहून हेरोद अतिशय रागावाला. त्याने ज्ञानी लोकांकडून त्या बालकाच्या जन्माची वेळ नीट समजून घेतली होती. त्यानुसार बालक जन्मल्याला आता दोन वर्षे उलटली होती. म्हणून त्याने माणसे पाठवून बेथलहेम व त्याच्या आसपासच्या प्रदेशातील दोन वर्षाच्या व त्याहून कमी वयाच्या मुलांची कत्तल करण्याची आज्ञा केली.
16Then Herod, when he saw that he was mocked by the wise men, was exceedingly angry, and sent out, and killed all the male children who were in Bethlehem and in all the surrounding countryside, from two years old and under, according to the exact time which he had learned from the wise men.
17यिर्मया संदेष्ट्यांच्या द्वारे देवाने जे सांगितले होते ते अशा प्रकारे पूर्ण झाले. ते वचन असे होते:
17Then that which was spoken by Jeremiah the prophet was fulfilled, saying,
18रामा येथे आकांत ऐकू आला. दु:खदायक रडण्याचा हा आकांत होता. राहेल आपल्या मुलांसाठी रडत आहे, पण तिचे सांत्वन करणे अशक्य झाले कारण तिची मुले मरण पावली आहेत.”
18"A voice was heard in Ramah, Lamentation, weeping and great mourning, Rachel weeping for her children; She wouldn't be comforted, Because they are no more."
19हेरोद मेल्यांनंतर प्रभुचा दूत स्वप्नात योसेफाकडे आला. योसेफ जेव्हा इजिप्तमध्ये होता तेव्हा हे घडले.
19But when Herod was dead, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared in a dream to Joseph in Egypt, saying,
20दूत म्हणाला “ऊठ! बाळाला आणि त्याच्या आईला घेऊन इस्राएल देशास जा. जे लोक बाळाला मारू पाहत होते ते आता मेले आहेत.”
20"Arise and take the young child and his mother, and go into the land of Israel, for those who sought the young child's life are dead."
21मग योसेफ बाळाला आणि त्याच्या आईला घेऊन इस्राएल देशास गेला.
21He arose and took the young child and his mother, and came into the land of Israel.
22हेरोदाच्या मृत्यूनंतर त्याच्या जागी त्याचा मुलगा अर्खेलाव यहूदाचा राजा झाला आहे असे जेव्हा योसेफाला समजले, तेव्हा तो तेथे जाण्यास घाबरला. पण स्वप्नात त्याला ताकीद मिळाल्याने तो तेथून निघाला आणि गालील प्रदेशात आला.
22But when he heard that Archelaus was reigning over Judea in the place of his father, Herod, he was afraid to go there. Being warned in a dream, he withdrew into the region of Galilee,
23योसेफ नासरेथ नावाच्या गावात गेला आणि तेथे राहिला. ख्रिस्त नासरेथकर म्हटला जाईल, असे जे देवाने संदेष्ट्यांच्या द्वारे सांगितले होते ते पूर्ण व्हावे म्हणूल हे झाले.
23and came and lived in a city called Nazareth; that it might be fulfilled which was spoken through the prophets: "He will be called a Nazarene."
