तुमच्यामध्ये भांडणे व झगडे कोठून येतात? तुमच्यामध्ये ज्या स्वार्थी भावना संघर्ष करतात त्यामधून ते येत नाही काय?

Where do wars and fightings among you come from? Don't they come from your pleasures that war in your members?

तुम्हांला काही गोष्टी पाहिजे असतात पण त्या तुम्हांला मिळत नाही, म्हणून तुम्ही खून करता व दुसऱ्या लोकांचा मत्सर करता पण तरीही तुम्हांला पाहिजे ते मिळत नाही. म्हणून तुम्ही भांडण व झगडे करता. तुम्हाला पाहिजे त्या गोष्टी मिळत नाहीत कारण तुम्ही देवाला मागत नाही.

You lust, and don't have. You kill, covet, and can't obtain. You fight and make war. You don't have, because you don't ask.

आणि जेव्हा तुम्ही मागता, तेव्हा तुम्हाला काहीही मिळत नाही, कारण तुम्ही चुकीच्या उद्देशाने मागता, यासाठी की तुम्हाला जे काही मिळेल ते तुमच्या स्वत:च्या सुखासाठी वापरता.

You ask, and don't receive, because you ask with wrong motives, so that you may spend it for your pleasures.

अप्रामाणिक लोकांनो, तुम्हाला हे माहीत नाही का की, जगाशी मैत्री हे देवाबरोबरचे वैर आहे. जो मनुष्य जगाशी मैत्री करतो तो देवाशी वैर करतो.

You adulterers and adulteresses, don't you know that friendship with the world is enmity with God? Whoever therefore wants to be a friend of the world makes himself an enemy of God.

पवित्र शास्त्र सांगते त्यात काही अर्थ नाही काय? जेव्हा ते म्हणते, की देवाने जो आत्मा आमच्यात ठेवला आहे तो आमची हेव्याने वाट पाहतो.

Or do you think that the Scripture says in vain, "The Spirit who lives in us yearns jealously"?

पण देव आम्हांवर त्याहूनही मोठी कृपा करतो. त्यासाठीच पवित्र शास्त्र म्हणते, “देव गर्विष्ठाचा विरोध करतो, पण नम्र जनांवर तो दया करतो.”

But he gives more grace. Therefore it says, "God resists the proud, but gives grace to the humble."

म्हणून स्वत:ला देवाच्या स्वाधीन करा. सैतानाला विरोध करा. आणि तो तुमच्यापासून पळून जाईल.

Be subject therefore to God. But resist the devil, and he will flee from you.

देवाजवळ या, आणि तो तुमच्याजवळ येईल. पाप्यांनो, तुमचे हात स्वच्छ करा. आणि तुमची अंत:करणे शुद्ध करा, जे तुम्ही द्विबुद्धीचे आहात.

Draw near to God, and he will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners; and purify your hearts, you double-minded.

दु:खी व्हा, शोक करा, आणि रडा! तुमचे हसणे दु:खात बदलो. तुमच्या आनंदाचे खेदात रूपांतर होवो.

Lament, mourn, and weep. Let your laughter be turned to mourning, and your joy to gloom.

तुम्ही प्रभूसमोर नम्र व्हा म्हणजे तो तुम्हांला उच्च स्थान देईल.

Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and he will exalt you.

बंधूंनो, एकमेकांविरुद्ध वाईट बोलण्याचे थांबवा, जो त्याच्या भावाविरुद्ध बोलतो किंवा जो त्याच्या भावाचा न्याय करतो तो नियमशास्त्राविरुद्ध बोलतो. आणि तो नियमशास्त्राचा न्याय करतो. आणि जर तुम्ही नियम शास्त्राचा न्याय करता तर तुम्ही नियमशास्त्र जे सांगते ते करीत नाही व तुम्ही न्यायाधीश आहात.

Don't speak against one another, brothers. He who speaks against a brother and judges his brother, speaks against the law and judges the law. But if you judge the law, you are not a doer of the law, but a judge.

नियामशास्त्र देणारा न्यायाधीश फक्त एकच आहे. फक्त देवच तारण करण्यास व नाश करण्यास समर्थ आहे. तू जो तुझ्या शेजाऱ्याचा न्याय करतोस तो तू स्वत:ला कोण समजतोस?

Only one is the lawgiver, who is able to save and to destroy. But who are you to judge another?

ऐक, तू म्हणतोस, “आज किंवा उद्या आपण या शहरी किंवा त्या शहरी जाऊ व तेथे आपण एक वर्ष घालवू आणि आपण तेथे व्यापार करू व पैसा कमवू.”

Come now, you who say, "Today or tomorrow let's go into this city, and spend a year there, trade, and make a profit."

तुला हे देखील माहीत नाही की, उद्या तुझे काय होईल. अखेर तुझे जीवन तरी काय आहे? कारण थोड्या काळपर्यंत दिसणारे आणि मग अदृष्य होणारे असे धुके तुम्ही आहात.

Whereas you don't know what your life will be like tomorrow. For what is your life? For you are a vapor, that appears for a little time, and then vanishes away.
15
त्याऐवजी, तुम्ही नेहमी असे म्हणा, “जर प्रभूची इच्छा असेल तर आपण जगू आणि आपण हे किंवा ते करू.”

For you ought to say, "If the Lord wills, we will both live, and do this or that."
16
पण तुम्ही तर घमेंड बाळगता आणि बढाई मारता आणि अशी बढाई मारणे वाईट आहे.

But now you glory in your boasting. All such boasting is evil.
17
म्हणून जर तुम्हांला चांगले कसे करायचे हे माहीत असूनही जर ते तुम्ही करीत नाही, तर तुम्ही पाप करता.

To him therefore who knows to do good, and doesn't do it, to him it is sin.
