देव याकोबाला म्हणाला, “तू बेथेल या नगरात जाऊन राहा; आणि तुझा भाऊ एसाव याजपासून तू पळून जात असताना त्या ठिकाणी ज्याने तुला दर्शन दिले त्या ‘एल’ (म्हणजे इस्राएलाचा देव) याची आठवण कर व त्याच देवाची उपासना करण्यासाठी तेथे एक वेदी बांध.”

God said to Jacob, "Arise, go up to Bethel, and live there. Make there an altar to God, who appeared to you when you fled from the face of Esau your brother."

तेव्हा याकोब आपल्या घरच्या मंडळीस व आपल्याबरोबरच्या सगळ्या दासांना म्हणाला, “तुमच्या जवळ असलेले लाकडांचे व धातूंचे परके देव फोडून तोडून टाका; तुम्ही स्वत:ला शुद्ध करा; स्वच्छ कपडे घाला;

Then Jacob said to his household, and to all who were with him, "Put away the foreign gods that are among you, purify yourselves, change your garments.

आपण येथून निघून बेथेलास जाऊ; मी त्रासात व संकटात असताना ज्याने मला मदत केली त्या देवासाठी मी तेथे तेथे माझ्याबरोबर असत आला आहे.”

Let us arise, and go up to Bethel. I will make there an altar to God, who answered me in the day of my distress, and was with me in the way which I went."

तेव्हा त्या लोकांनी त्यांच्या जवळ असलेले सर्व परके देव आणून याकोबाला दिले आणि त्यांनी आपल्या कानातील कुंडलेही काढून दिली; तेव्हा याकोबाने त्या सर्व वस्तू शखेम नावाच्या नगराजवळील एका एला झाडाच्या खाली पुरुन टाकल्या.

They gave to Jacob all the foreign gods which were in their hands, and the rings which were in their ears; and Jacob hid them under the oak which was by Shechem.

याकोब व त्याची मुले यांनी ठिकाण सोडले. त्या भागात राहाणाऱ्या लोकांना त्याचा पाठलाग करुन त्यांना ठार मारावयास पाहिजे होते परंतु त्यांना फार भीती वाटलीम्हणून त्यांनी याकोबाचा पाठलाग केला नाही.

They traveled: and a terror of God was on the cities that were round about them, and they didn't pursue the sons of Jacob.

अशा रीतीने याकोब व त्याचे लोक कनान देशात लूज येथे पोहोंचले; त्यालाच आता बेथेल म्हणतात.

So Jacob came to Luz, which is in the land of Canaan (the same is Bethel), he and all the people who were with him.

याकोबाने तेथे एक वेदी बांधली, व त्या ठिकाणाचे नाव “एल बेथेल” असे ठेवले; याकोबाने या जागेसाठी हे नाव निवडले कारण आपला भाऊ एसाव याजपासून पळून जाताना ह्याच जागी प्रथम देवाने त्याला दर्शन दिले होते.

He built an altar there, and called the place El Beth El; because there God was revealed to him, when he fled from the face of his brother.

रिबकेची दाई दबोरा ह्या ठिकाणी मरण पावली तेव्हा त्यांनी तिला बेथेल येथे एका एला झाडाच्या खाली पुरले; त्या जागेचे नाव त्यांनी अल्लोन बाकूथ’ असे ठेवले.

Deborah, Rebekah's nurse, died, and she was buried below Bethel under the oak; and the name of it was called Allon Bacuth.

पदन अराम येथून याकोब परत आल्यावर देवाने त्याला पुन्हा दर्शन देऊन आशीर्वाद दिला.

God appeared to Jacob again, when he came from Paddan Aram, and blessed him.

देव याकोबाला म्हणाला, “तुझे नाव याकोब आहे मी ते बदलतो; तुला आता याकोब म्हणणार नाहीत तर तुझे नवे नाव इस्राएल’ असे असेल;” आणि म्हणून देवाने त्याला इस्राएल हे नाव दिले.

God said to him, "Your name is Jacob. Your name shall not be Jacob any more, but your name will be Israel." He named him Israel.
11
देव त्याला म्हणाला, “मी सर्व शक्तिमान देव आहे; तुला भरपूर संतती होवो आणि त्यांची वाढ होऊन त्यांचे एक महान राष्ट्र बनो. तसेच तुझ्यातून इतर राष्ट्रे व राजे निर्माण होवोत;

God said to him, "I am God Almighty. Be fruitful and multiply. A nation and a company of nations will be from you, and kings will come out of your loins.
12
मी अब्राहाम व इसहाक यांना जो काही विशिष्ट देश दिला, तो आता मी तुला व तुझ्यामागे राहणाऱ्या तुझ्या संततीला देतो.”

The land which I gave to Abraham and Isaac, I will give it to you, and to your seed after you will I give the land."

मग देव तेथून निघून गेला.

God went up from him in the place where he spoke with him.

मग याकोबाने तेथे स्मारक म्हणून दगडाचा एक स्तंभ उभा केला त्याने त्यावर पेयार्पण म्हणून द्राक्षारस व तेल ओतून तो पवित्र केला. तेव्हा हे एक विशेष ठिकाण झाले कारण येथेच देव याकोबाशी बोलला आणि म्हणून याकोबाने त्या ठिकाणाचे नाव बेथेल ठेवले.

Jacob set up a pillar in the place where he spoke with him, a pillar of stone. He poured out a drink-offering on it, and poured oil on it.

Jacob called the name of the place where God spoke with him "Bethel."

याकोब व त्याच्या बरोबराचा लवाजमा म्हणजे त्याची, घरची मंडळी व इतर माणसे हे सर्व बेथेल येथून निघाले, ते इफ्राथ (म्हणजे बेथलहेम) गांवाच्या अगदी जवळ आले असताना तेथे पोहोंचण्यापूर्वी राहेलीस प्रसूती वेदना सुरु झाल्या.

They traveled from Bethel. There was still some distance to come to Ephrath, and Rachel travailed. She had hard labor.

परंतु राहेलीस यावेळी प्रसूती वेदनांचा अतिशय त्रास होत होता; त्याचवेळी राहेलीची सुईण तिची कठीण अवस्था पाहून तिला म्हणाली, “भिऊ नकोस राहेल, तू आणखी एका मुलास जन्म देत आहेस.”

It happened that, when she was in hard labor, that the midwife said to her, "Don't be afraid, for now you will have another son."

त्या मुलास जन्म देताना राहेल मरण पावली परंतु मरण्यापूर्वी तिने त्याचे नाव बेनओनी’ असे ठेवले; परंतु याकोबाने त्याचे नांव बन्यामीन’ असे ठेवले.

It happened, as her soul was departing (for she died), that she named him Ben-oni, but his father named him Benjamin.

एक्राथ (म्हणजे बेथलहेम) गांवाला जाणाऱ्या वाटेजवळ राहेलीस पुरले

Rachel died, and was buried in the way to Ephrath (the same is Bethlehem).

आणि याकोबाने तिच्या सन्मानाकरिता तिचे स्मारक म्हणून तिच्या कबरेवर एक दगडी स्तंभ उभा केला; तो स्तंभ आजपर्यंत तेथे कायम आहे.

Jacob set up a pillar on her grave. The same is the Pillar of Rachel's grave to this day.

त्यानंतर इस्राएलाने (याकोबाने) आपला पुढचा प्रवास चालू केला; आणि एदेर बुरुजाच्या अगदी दक्षिणे कडे आपला तळ दिला.

Israel traveled, and spread his tent beyond the tower of Eder.

इस्राएल तेथे थोडा काळ राहिला, त्यावेळी रऊबेन, इस्राएलाची म्हणजे आपल्या बापाची उपपत्नी बिल्हा हिच्यापाशी निजला या विषयी इस्राएलाने ऐकले तेव्हा तो अतिशय संतापला.याकोब (इस्राएल) यास बारा मुलगे होते.

It happened, while Israel lived in that land, that Reuben went and lay with Bilhah, his father's concubine, and Israel heard of it. Now the sons of Jacob were twelve.

लेआ हिचे मुलगे - याकोबाचा पाहिला मुलगा रऊबेन आणिशिमोन, लेवी, यहुदा, इस्साखार व जबुलून;

The sons of Leah: Reuben (Jacob's firstborn), Simeon, Levi, Judah, Issachar, and Zebulun.

राहेल हिचे मुलगे - योसेफ व बन्यामीन;
24
The sons of Rachel: Joseph and Benjamin.

राहेलीची दासी बिल्हा हिचे मुलगे - दान व नफताली;

The sons of Bilhah (Rachel's handmaid): Dan and Naphtali.

आणि लेआची दासी जिल्पा हिचे मुलगे गाद आशेर पदन अरामात झाले.

The sons of Zilpah (Leah's handmaid): Gad and Asher. These are the sons of Jacob, who were born to him in Paddan Aram.

याकोब मग ‘किर्याथ अरबा’ (म्हणजे ‘हेब्रोन) येथीन मम्रे या ठिकाणी आपला बाप इसहाक याजकडे गेला. येथेच अब्राहाम व इसहाक हे राहिले होते.

Jacob came to Isaac his father, to Mamre, to Kiriath Arba (the same is Hebron), where Abraham and Isaac lived as foreigners.

इसहाक एकशे ऐंशी वर्षे जगला.
28
The days of Isaac were one hundred eighty years.
29
आणि दीर्घ आयुष्यानंतर तो अशक्त होऊन मरण पावला. त्याचे मुलगे एसाव व याकोब यांनी त्याला त्याच्या बापाला पुरले होते त्याच जागी पुरले.

Isaac gave up the spirit, and died, and was gathered to his people, old and full of days. Esau and Jacob, his sons, buried him.
