पूर्वी अब्राहामाच्या काळात मोठा दुष्काळ पडला होता त्यासारखा दुसरा दुष्टकाळ आताही पडला; तेव्हा इसहाक पलिष्ट्यांचा राजा अबीमलेख याजकडे गरार नगरात गेला.
1
There was a famine in the land, besides the first famine that was in the days of Abraham. Isaac went to Abimelech king of the Philistines, to Gerar.

परमेश्वराने त्याला दर्शन देऊन म्हटले, “तू मिसर देशात जाऊ नकोस; तर मी सांगितलेल्या देशातच राहा;

Yahweh appeared to him, and said, "Don't go down into Egypt. Dwell in the land which I will tell you of.
3
तू तेथे राहा आणि मी तेथे तुझ्याबरोबर असेन; मी तुला आशीर्वादित करीन; ही सर्व भूमी मी तुला आणि तुझ्या वंशजांना देईन; तुझा बाप अब्राहाम याला मी जे जे देण्याचे वचन दिले आहे ते सर्व मी पूर्ण करीन.

Sojourn in this land, and I will be with you, and will bless you. For to you, and to your seed, I will give all these lands, and I will establish the oath which I swore to Abraham your father.
4
मी तुमची संतनी आकाशातील ताऱ्यांइतकी करीन आणि हे सर्व देश मी तुमच्या वंशजांस देईन; तुमच्या वंशजांमुळे पृथ्वीवरील सर्व राष्ट्रे मी आशीर्वादीत करीन;

I will multiply your seed as the stars of the sky, and will give to your seed all these lands. In your seed will all the nations of the earth be blessed,

कारण तुझा बाप अब्राहाम याने माझ्या आज्ञा, नियम व कायदे पाळले आणि मी सांगितलेल्या गोष्टी केल्या.”

because Abraham obeyed my voice, and kept my charge, my commandments, my statutes, and my laws."

म्हणून मग इसहाक गरार नगरातच वस्ती करुन राहिला.

Isaac lived in Gerar.
7
इसहाकाची बायको रिबका अतिशय देखणी होती. तेथील लोकांनी रिबके विषयी इसहाकाला विचारले तेव्हा, “ती माझी बहीण आहे,” असे त्याने उत्तर दिले; “ती माझी बायको आहे.” असे सांगण्याची इसहाकाला भीती वाटली कारण रिबका मिळविण्यासाठी कोणीही त्याचा घात केला असता.

The men of the place asked him about his wife. He said, "She is my sister," for he was afraid to say, "My wife," lest, he thought, the men of the place might kill me for Rebekah, because she was beautiful to look on.

बराच काळ तेथे राहिल्यावर एकदा खिडकीतून बाहेर पाहताना इसहाक रिबकेशी प्रेमाचे खेळ खेळण्यात रंगल्याचे अबीमलेखाला दिसले.

It happened, when he had been there a long time, that Abimelech king of the Philistines looked out at a window, and saw, and, behold, Isaac was caressing Rebekah, his wife.

तेव्हा त्याने इसहाकाला बोलावून विचारले, “ही स्त्री तुझी बायको आहे ना? मग ती तुझी बहीण आहे असे तू आम्हाला का सांगितलेस?”इसहाक म्हणाला, “मला अशी भीती वाटली की तिला मिळविण्याकरिता तुम्ही कोणीही मला मारुन टाकाल.”

Abimelech called Isaac, and said, "Behold, surely she is your wife. Why did you say, 'She is my sister?'" Isaac said to him, "Because I said, 'Lest I die because of her.'"

अबीमलेख म्हणाला, “तू आम्हाशी असे वागून ही वाईट गोष्ट केलीस; कारण आमच्या लोकातून कोणीही तुझ्या बायको बरोबर निजला असता आणि त्यामुळे त्याच्या माथी मोठे पाप लागून तो अपराधी ठरला असता.”

Abimelech said, "What is this you have done to us? One of the people might easily have lain with your wife, and you would have brought guilt on us!"

म्हणून अबीमलेखाने सर्व लोकांना हुकूम देऊन बजावून ठेवले; तो म्हणाला, “या माणसाला किंवा याच्या बायकोला कोणीही हात लावू नये आणी जर कोणी तसे करील तर त्याला जिवे मारण्यात येईल.”

Abimelech charged all the people, saying, "He who touches this man or his wife will surely be put to death."
12
इसहाकाने त्या देशात धान्य पेरले; आणि त्या वर्षी त्याला भरमसाट पीक आले. परमेश्वराने त्याला भरपूर आशीर्वाद दिला.

Isaac sowed in that land, and reaped in the same year one hundred times what he planted. Yahweh blessed him.
13
इसहाकाने भरपूर संपत्ती मिळवली आणि तो खूप श्रीमंत झाला;
13
The man grew great, and grew more and more until he became very great.
14
त्याच्याकडे शेरड्यामेंढ्यांचे कळप व गुराढोरांची खिल्लारे पुष्कळ होती; त्यावरुन पलिष्टी लोक त्याचा हेवा करु लागले;
14
He had possessions of flocks, possessions of herds, and a great household. The Philistines envied him.
15
म्हणून त्याचा बाप अब्राहाम याच्या हयातीत पूर्वी त्याच्या नोकरांचाकरानी खणलेल्या सर्व विहिरी पलिष्टी लोकांनी मातीने बुजवून सपाट केल्या;

Now all the wells which his father's servants had dug in the days of Abraham his father, the Philistines had stopped, and filled with earth.
16
तेव्हा अबीमलेख इसहाकास म्हणाला, “आता तू आमचा देश सोडून निघून जा कारण आमच्यापेक्षा तू अधिक शक्तीमान झाला आहेस.”

Abimelech said to Isaac, "Go from us, for you are much mightier than we."
17
म्हणून इसहाकाने तो देश सोडला व गराराच्या एका लहान नदीजवळ त्याने तळ दिला आणि तेथेच त्याने वस्ती केली.
17
Isaac departed from there, encamped in the valley of Gerar, and lived there.

याच्या बरेच वर्षे आधी अब्राहामाने आपल्या हयातीत बऱ्याच विहिरी खणल्या होत्या; परंतु अब्राहामाच्या मरणानंतर त्या पलिष्टी लोकांनी मातीने बुजविल्या होत्या; त्यामुळे इसहाकाने मागे जाऊन त्या परत खणून घेतल्या त्या विहिरींना त्याच्या वडीलांनी दिलेली नावच पुन्हा त्याने दिली.

Isaac dug again the wells of water, which they had dug in the days of Abraham his father. For the Philistines had stopped them after the death of Abraham. He called their names after the names by which his father had called them.

त्याच्या नोकरांनी एक विहीर नदीजवळ खणली; तेव्हा त्या विहिरीत त्यांना एक जीवंत पाण्याचा झरा लगला;

Isaac's servants dug in the valley, and found there a well of springing water.
20
परंतु गरार खोऱ्यातील गुराख्यांनी इसहाकाच्या गुराख्यांशी हुज्जत घातली; ते म्हणाले, “हे पाणी आमचे आहे.” त्या लोकांनी आपल्याशी त्या जागी भांडण केले म्हणून इसहाकाने त्या विहिरीचे नाव ‘एसेक’ ठेवले.

The herdsmen of Gerar argued with Isaac's herdsmen, saying, "The water is ours." He called the name of the well Esek, because they contended with him.

मग इसहाकाच्या नोकरांनी दुसरी विहीर खणली; तेथील लोकही तिच्यावरुन भांडले म्हणून इसहाकाने त्या विहिरीचे नाव ‘सितना’ ठेवले.

They dug another well, and they argued over that, also. He called the name of it Sitnah.
22
इसहाक तेथुन पुढे गेला आणि त्याने आणखी एक विहीर खणली; तेव्हा मात्र कोणीही भांडण करावयास आले नाही म्हणून इसहाकाने तिचे नाव ‘रहोबोथ’ ठेवले. इसहाक म्हणाला, “आता मात्र परमेश्वराने आम्हासाठी जागा शोधून दिली आहे; आता या देशात आमची भरभराट होईल; आणि आम्हाला यश मिळेल.”

He left that place, and dug another well. They didn't argue over that one. He called it Rehoboth. He said, "For now Yahweh has made room for us, and we will be fruitful in the land."

तेथून इसहाक बैर - शेबा येथे गेला;
23
He went up from there to Beersheba.
24
त्याच रात्री परमेश्वराने इसहाकाला दर्शन देऊन म्हटले, “इसहाका, तुझा बाप अब्राहाम याचा देव मी आहे; तर भिऊ नकोस, कारण मी तुझ्याबरोबर आहे; मी आपला सेवक अब्राहाम याच्याकरिता तुला आशीर्वादित करीन.” आणि तुझा वंश खूप वाढवीन.

Yahweh appeared to him the same night, and said, "I am the God of Abraham your father. Don't be afraid, for I am with you, and will bless you, and multiply your seed for my servant Abraham's sake."
25
तेव्हा इसहाकाने परमेश्वरा करिता तेथे एक वेदी बांधली व परमेश्वराची उपासना व उपकार स्तुती केली; व त्याने तेथे आपला तळ दिला; तेथेच त्याच्या नोकरांनी एक विहीर खणली.

He built an altar there, and called on the name of Yahweh, and pitched his tent there. There Isaac's servants dug a well.
26
त्यानंतर एके दिवशी अबीमलेख राजा आपला सल्लागार अहुज्जाथ व आपला सेनापती पीकोल यांना बरोबर घेऊन गरार येथून इसहाकाला भेटावयास आला.

Then Abimelech went to him from Gerar, and Ahuzzath his friend, and Phicol the captain of his host.
27
इसहाकाने विचारले, “तुम्ही या अगोदर माझ्याशी मित्रासारखे वागला नाही, एवढेच नव्हे तर माझ्यावर जोर करुन तुम्ही मला तुमचा देश सोडणे भाग पाडले; मग आता माझ्याकडे का आलात?”

Isaac said to them, "Why have you come to me, since you hate me, and have sent me away from you?"
28
त्यांनी उत्तर दिले, “परमेश्वर तुझ्याबरोबर आहे हे आम्हाला आता पूर्णपणे समजले आहे; आम्हाला असे वाटते की आपण आता आपल्यामध्ये एक करार करावा; तू आम्हाला वचन द्यावे अशी आमची इच्छा आहे;

They said, "We saw plainly that Yahweh was with you. We said, 'Let there now be an oath between us, even between us and you, and let us make a covenant with you,
29
आम्ही तुला त्रास दिला नाही त्याच प्रमाणे आता तुही आम्हाला त्रास देणार नाही असा तू आमच्याशी करार करावा; आम्ही तुला घालवून दिले हे खरे आहे, परंतु तुला आम्ही शांतीने जाऊ दिले; परमेश्वराने तुला आशीर्वादित केले आहे ही गोष्ट आता स्पष्ट झाली आहे.”
29
that you will do us no harm, as we have not touched you, and as we have done to you nothing but good, and have sent you away in peace.' You are now the blessed of Yahweh."

तेव्हा इसहाकाने त्यांना मेजवानी दिली; त्यांनी आनंदाने भरपूर खाणे पिणे केले,

He made them a feast, and they ate and drink.
31
दुसऱ्या दिवशी सकाळी त्या प्रत्येकाने वचन दिले आणि शपथ वाहिली; नंतर ते लोक शांतीने आपल्या घरी गेले.
31
They rose up some time in the morning, and swore one to another. Isaac sent them away, and they departed from him in peace.
32
त्याच दिवशी इसहाकाच्या नोकरांनी येऊन त्यांनी खणलेल्या विहीरी विषयी त्याला सांगितले. ते म्हणाले, “त्या विहिरीत आम्हांस मुबलत पाणी लागले आहे;”

It happened the same day, that Isaac's servants came, and told him concerning the well which they had dug, and said to him, "We have found water."
33
तेव्हा इसहाकाने त्या विहिरीचे नांव ‘शेबा’ ठेवले; आणि त्या नगराला अजूनही ‘बैर शेबा’ म्हटले जाते.

He called it Shibah. Therefore the name of the city is Beersheba to this day.
34
एसाव चालीस वर्षांचा झाल्यावर त्याने दोन हेथी स्त्रियांशी लग्ने केली, एकीचे नांव होते यहूदीथ, ही बैरी हित्तीची मुलगी, आणि दुसरीचे नांव होते बासमथ, ही एलोन हित्तीची मुलगी;

When Esau was forty years old, he took as wife Judith, the daughter of Beeri the Hittite, and Basemath, the daughter of Elon the Hittite.
35
हेथी बायकांमुळे इसहाक व रिबका दु:खाने अस्वस्थ झाले.
35
They grieved Isaac and Rebekah's spirits.
