परमेश्वराने तुमच्या पूर्वजांशी विशेष करार केला होता की कनानी, हित्ती, अमोरी, हिव्वी व यबूसी या लोकांचा देश मी तुम्हाला देईन;त्यामुळे त्या देशात नेल्यानंतर तुम्ही या दिवसाची आठवण ठेवलीच पाहिजे; तुम्ही प्रत्येक वर्षाच्या पहिल्या महिन्याच्या ह्या दिवशी परमेश्वराची उपासना करण्यासाठी हा सण पाळला पाहिजे.

It shall be, when Yahweh shall bring you into the land of the Canaanite, and the Hittite, and the Amorite, and the Hivite, and the Jebusite, which he swore to your fathers to give you, a land flowing with milk and honey, that you shall keep this service in this month.
