1याकोब (इस्राएल) आपली मुले व त्यांची कुटुंबे यांच्या बरोबर मिसरला गेला, इस्राएलाची मिसरला गेलेली मुले ही:
1Now these are the names of the sons of Israel, who came into Egypt (every man and his household came with Jacob):
2रऊबेन, शिमोन, लेवी, यहूदा
2Reuben, Simeon, Levi, and Judah,
3इस्साखार, जबुलून, बन्यामीन;
3Issachar, Zebulun, and Benjamin,
4दान, नफताली, गाद व आशेर.
4Dan and Naphtali, Gad and Asher.
5त्याच्या वंशाचे हे एकूण सत्तरजण होते. (त्याच्या बारा मुलांपैकी योसेफ हा अगोदरच मिसरमध्ये होता.)
5All the souls who came out of the Jacob's body were seventy souls, and Joseph was in Egypt already.
6काही काळानंतर योसेफ, त्याचे भाऊ व त्या पिढीतील सर्व लोक मरण पावले.
6Joseph died, as did all his brothers, and all that generation.
7परंतु इस्राएल लोकांना पुष्कळ मुले झाली आणि त्यांची संख्या वाढत गेली; ते लोक महाप्रबल झाले आणि सर्व मिसर देश त्यांनी भरून गेला.
7The children of Israel were fruitful, and increased abundantly, and multiplied, and grew exceedingly mighty; and the land was filled with them.
8नंतर मिसर देशावर नवीन राजा राज्य करु लागला. योसेफ व त्याची कर्तबगारी याची त्याला माहीती नव्हती.
8Now there arose a new king over Egypt, who didn't know Joseph.
9तो आपल्या लोकांना म्हणाला, “ह्या इस्राएल लोकांकडे पाहा; देशात ते फार झाले आहेत! आणि ते आपल्यापेक्षा संख्येने अधिक आहेत व शक्तीमानही झाले आहेत;
9He said to his people, "Behold, the people of the children of Israel are more and mightier than we.
10त्यांची वाढ थांबवावी म्हणून आपण काहीतरी उपाय योजना केलीच पाहिजे. जर एखादा युद्धाचा प्रसंग आला तर हे इस्राएल लोक आपल्या शत्रुला जाऊन मिळतील; आणि मग ते आपला पराभव करुन आपणापासून निसटून जातील.”
10Come, let us deal wisely with them, lest they multiply, and it happen that when any war breaks out, they also join themselves to our enemies, and fight against us, and escape out of the land."
11तेव्हा इस्राएल लोकांस त्रास देऊन त्यांचे जीवन कष्टमय व कठीण करावयाचे असे मिसरच्या लोकांनी ठरविले, म्हणून त्यांनी, गुलामाकडून बिगार कामे करुन घेण्यासाठी जसे मुकादम नेमतात तसे इस्राएल लोकावंर मुकादम नेमले. त्या मुकादमांनी राजाकरिता पिथोम व रामसेस ही दोन शहरे जबरदस्तीने इस्राएल लोकांकडून बांधून घेतली; राजाने या दोन शहरांचा धान्य व इतर वस्तु साठवून ठेवण्यासाठी उपयोग केला.
11Therefore they set taskmasters over them to afflict them with their burdens. They built storage cities for Pharaoh: Pithom and Raamses.
12मिसरवासीयांनी इस्राएल लोकावंर अधिक कठीण व कष्टाची कामे लादली; परंतु जसजसे ते त्यांच्यावर अधिक कष्टाची कामे लादू लागले तसतसे इस्राएल लोक अधिकच संख्येने वाढत गेले व अधिकच पसरले;
12But the more they afflicted them, the more they multiplied and the more they spread out. They were grieved because of the children of Israel.
13आणि मग मिसरवासीयांना त्यांची अधिकच भीती वाटू लागली; म्हणून त्यांनी त्यांच्यावर अधिक कष्टाची कामे लादली.
13The Egyptians ruthlessly made the children of Israel serve,
14अशा प्रकारे मिसरवासीयांनी इस्राएल लोकांचे जीवन फारच कठीण काबाडकष्टांचे व हाल अपेष्टांचे केलें; त्यांनी त्यांना विटा बनविण्याची, घाण्याची तसेच शेतीची व इतर अतिशय कठीन व कष्टाची कामे बळजबरीने करायला लावली.
14and they made their lives bitter with hard service, in mortar and in brick, and in all manner of service in the field, all their service, in which they ruthlessly made them serve.
15इस्राएली स्त्रिया बाळंत होताना त्यांना मदत करणाऱ्या शिप्रा व पुवा नावांच्या दोन इब्री म्हणजे इस्राएली सुइणी होत्या. मिसरच्या राजाने त्यांना आज्ञा केली.
15The king of Egypt spoke to the Hebrew midwives, of whom the name of the one was Shiphrah, and the name of the other Puah,
16तो म्हणला, “तुम्ही इब्री स्त्रियांना बाळंतपणात सहाय्य करण्याचे काम चालू ठेवा. त्या स्त्रियांना मुलगी झाली तर तिला जिवंत ठेवा; परंतु त्यांना मुलगा झाला तर त्याला अवश्य मारून टाका.”
16and he said, "When you perform the duty of a midwife to the Hebrew women, and see them on the birth stool; if it is a son, then you shall kill him; but if it is a daughter, then she shall live."
17परंतु त्या सुइणा देवाचे भय व आदर धरून त्याच्यावर विश्वास ठेवणाऱ्या होत्या म्हणून त्यांनी राजाची आज्ञा मानली नाही; त्यांनी जन्मणाऱ्या मुलांनाही जिवंत ठेवले.
17But the midwives feared God, and didn't do what the king of Egypt commanded them, but saved the baby boys alive.
18तेव्हा मिसरच्या राजाने त्या सुइणींना बोलावून विचारले, “तुम्ही असे का केले? तुम्ही जन्मलेल्या मुलांना का जिवंत ठेवले?”
18The king of Egypt called for the midwives, and said to them, "Why have you done this thing, and have saved the men-children alive?"
19सुइणी म्हणल्या, “ह्या इब्री म्हणजे इस्राएली स्त्रिया मिसरच्या स्त्रियांपेक्षा फार ताकदवान आहेत; आम्ही सुइणी त्यांच्याकडे जाऊन पोहोंचाण्यापूर्वीच त्या बाळंत होतात.”
19The midwives said to Pharaoh, "Because the Hebrew women aren't like the Egyptian women; for they are vigorous, and give birth before the midwife comes to them."
20त्या सुइणींच्या कामाबद्दल देवाला आनंद झाला; त्याबद्दल देवाने त्यांचे कल्याण केले वे त्यांची घराणी स्थापित केली;
20God dealt well with the midwives, and the people multiplied, and grew very mighty.
21इस्राएल लोकांना अधिक मुले होत राहिली; ते संख्येने फार वाढले व फार बलवान झाले.
21It happened, because the midwives feared God, that he gave them families.
22तेव्हा फारोने आपल्या सर्व लोकांना आज्ञा दिली, “त्या लोकापैकी ज्यांना मुलगा होईल तो प्रत्येक मुलगा नाईल नदीत फेकून द्या पण मुलगी मात्र जिवंत ठेवा
22Pharaoh charged all his people, saying, "You shall cast every son who is born into the river, and every daughter you shall save alive."
