दावीद आणि शौल यांच्या घराण्यांमध्ये दीर्घकाळ युध्द चालू राहिले. दिवसेंदिवस दावीदाची ताकद वाढत चालली तर शौलचे घराणे कमकुवत बनत गेले.

Now there was long war between the house of Saul and the house of David: and David grew stronger and stronger, but the house of Saul grew weaker and weaker.
2
हेब्रोन येथे दावीदाला मुलगे झाले, त्यांचा क्रम असा इज्रेलची अहीनवाम हिच्यापासून पाहिला मुलगा झाला तो अम्मोन.
2
To David were sons born in Hebron: and his firstborn was Amnon, of Ahinoam the Jezreelitess;

दुसरा मुलगा किलाब, हा कर्मेलची नाबालची विधवा अबीगईल हिचा मुलगा. अबशालोम तिसरा, गशूरचा राजा तलमय याची मुलगी माका ही याची आई.

and his second, Chileab, of Abigail the wife of Nabal the Carmelite; and the third, Absalom the son of Maacah the daughter of Talmai king of Geshur;

अदोनीया चवथा, हग्गीथ ही त्याची आई. शफाट्या पाचवा, त्याची आई अबीटल.

and the fourth, Adonijah the son of Haggith; and the fifth, Shephatiah the son of Abital;

दावीदाची बायको एग्ला हिच्यापासून सहावा इथ्राम झाला. हेब्रोनमध्ये जन्मलेले हे त्याचे सहा पुत्र.

and the sixth, Ithream, of Eglah, David's wife. These were born to David in Hebron.

शौल आणि दावीद यांच्या घराण्यात चाललेल्या लढायांमध्ये शौलाच्या सैन्यातील अबनेरचे बळ वाढत चालले.

It happened, while there was war between the house of Saul and the house of David, that Abner made himself strong in the house of Saul.

शौलची रिस्पा नामक उपपत्नी होती. ती अय्याची मुलगी. ईश-बोशेथ अबनेरला म्हणाला, “माझ्या वडिलांच्या दासीशी तू शरीर संबध का ठेवतोस?”

Now Saul had a concubine, whose name was Rizpah, the daughter of Aiah: and Ish-bosheth said to Abner, Why have you gone in to my father's concubine?

या बोलण्याचा अबनेरला संताप आला. तो म्हणाला, “शौलशी आणि त्याच्या घराण्याशी मी एकनिष्ठ राहिलेलो आहे. दावीदाच्या हातून मी तुमचा पराभव होऊ दिला नाही. मी विश्वासघात केला नाही.पण आता तू मला या बाईच्या संदर्भात दूषण देत आहेस.

Then was Abner very angry for the words of Ish-bosheth, and said, Am I a dog's head that belongs to Judah? This day do I show kindness to the house of Saul your father, to his brothers, and to his friends, and have not delivered you into the hand of David; and yet you charge me this day with a fault concerning this woman.

आता मात्र मी निर्धाराने सांगतो की, देवाने भाकित केल्याप्रमाणे सर्व घडेल. शौलाच्या घराण्याकडून राज्य काढून घेऊन ते दावीदाकडे सोपवण्याचे भाकित परमेश्वराने केले आहे. परमेश्वर दावीदाला इस्राएल आणि यहूदा यांचा राजा करणार आहे. दानपासून बैर-शेब्यापर्यंत त्याचे राज्य असेल. माझ्या हातून आता हे सर्व प्रत्यक्षात आले नाही तर देव खुशाल माझे वाईट करो.”

God do so to Abner, and more also, if, as Yahweh has sworn to David, I don't do even so to him;
10

to transfer the kingdom from the house of Saul, and to set up the throne of David over Israel and over Judah, from Dan even to Beersheba.

ईश-बोशेथ हे ऐकून इतका घाबरला की त्याने काहीही प्रत्युत्तर केले नाही.
11
He could not answer Abner another word, because he feared him.
12
अबनेरने दूतांकरवी दावीदाला निरोप पाठवला, “ह्या प्रदेशांवर कोणी राज्य करावे असे तुला वाटते? माझ्याशबरोबर करार कर. म्हणजे इस्राएलचा राजा म्हणून तुला मान्यता मिळवून द्यायला मी मदत करीन.”

Abner sent messengers to David on his behalf, saying, Whose is the land? saying also, Make your league with me, and, behold, my hand shall be with you, to bring about all Israel to you.
13
यावर दावीद म्हणाला, “हे छान झाले, मी करार करायला तयार आहे. आता माझे एक मागणे आहे. शौलची मुलगी मीखल हिला आपल्याबरोबर आणलेस तरच मी तुला भेटीन.”

He said, Well; I will make a league with you; but one thing I require of you: that is, you shall not see my face, except you first bring Michal, Saul's daughter, when you come to see my face.
14
शौलचा मुलगा ईश-बोशेथ याच्याकडे दावीदाने जासूदांकरवी निरोप पाठवला, “माझी पत्नी मीखल हिला माझ्याकडे पाठवून द्यावे. ती मला देण्यात आलेली आहे. तिच्या प्राप्तीसाठी मी शंभर पलिष्ट्यांचा वध केला होता.”

David sent messengers to Ish-bosheth, Saul's son, saying, Deliver me my wife Michal, whom I pledged to be married to me for one hundred foreskins of the Philistines.

तेव्हा ईश-बोशेथने लईशचा मुलगा पालटीयेल याच्याकडून मीखलला आणण्यास माणसे पाठवली.
15
Ish-bosheth sent, and took her from her husband, even from Paltiel the son of Laish.
16
पालटीयेल हा मीखलचा नवरा. तो तिच्यामागोमाग बहूरीम पर्यंत रडतरडत गेला. पण अबनेरने त्याला परत जाण्यास सांगितले तेव्हा तो मागे फिरला.

Her husband went with her, weeping as he went, and followed her to Bahurim. Then said Abner to him, Go, return: and he returned.
17
अबनेरने इस्राएलाच्या वडीलधाऱ्या मंडळीकडे निरोप पाठवला, “दावीदाला राजा करावे असे तुमच्या मनात होते.

Abner had communication with the elders of Israel, saying, In times past you sought for David to be king over you:
18
आता ते प्रत्यक्षात आणा. परमेश्वराने दावीद विषयी म्हटले आहे “पलिष्टी लोक आणि इतर शत्रू यांच्यापासून मी माझ्या इस्राएल लोकांचे संरक्षण करीन. माझा सेवक दावीद याच्यामार्फत मी हे करीन.”’

now then do it; for Yahweh has spoken of David, saying, By the hand of my servant David I will save my people Israel out of the hand of the Philistines, and out of the hand of all their enemies.
19
अबनेरने हे सर्व हेब्रोन येथे दावीदाच्या कानावर घातले. बन्यामीन घराण्यातील लोकांशीही तो या विषयी बोलला. त्यांना आणि इस्राएल लोकांना ते चांगले वाटले.

Abner also spoke in the ears of Benjamin: and Abner went also to speak in the ears of David in Hebron all that seemed good to Israel, and to the whole house of Benjamin.
20
एवढे झाल्यावर तो आपल्या बरोबर वीस जणांना घेऊन हेब्रोन येथे दावीदाकडे आला. दावीदाने अबनेर आणि त्याच्या बरोबरचे हे सर्वलोक यांना मेजवानी दिली.

So Abner came to David to Hebron, and twenty men with him. David made Abner and the men who were with him a feast.
21
अबनेर दावीदाला म्हणाला, “महाराज, सर्व इस्राएल लोकांना मी आता आपल्या पायाशी एकत्र आणतो. ते तुमच्याशी करार करतील. मग आपल्या इच्छेप्रमाणे तुम्ही इस्राएलवर राज्य कराल.”तेव्हा दावीदाने अबनेरला निरोप दिला. अबनेर शांततेने परत गेला.

Abner said to David, I will arise and go, and will gather all Israel to my lord the king, that they may make a covenant with you, and that you may reign over all that your soul desires. David sent Abner away; and he went in peace.
22
इकडे यवाब आणि दावीदाचे लोक युध्दावरुन परत आले. त्यांनी शत्रूकडून बऱ्याच मौल्यवान वस्तू लुटून आणल्या. दावीदाने निरोप दिल्यावर अबनेर नुकताच शांतचिताने तेथून गेला होता. तेव्हा हेब्रोन येथे दावीदाजवळ तो अर्थातच नव्हता.

Behold, the servants of David and Joab came from a foray, and brought in a great spoil with them: but Abner was not with David in Hebron; for he had sent him away, and he was gone in peace.
23
यवाब सर्वसैन्यासह हेब्रोन येथे आला. सैन्यातील लोक यवाबाला म्हणाले, “नेरचा मुलगा अबनेर दावीदराजाकडे आलेला होता आणि दावीदाने त्याला शांत मनाने जाऊ दिले होते.”

When Joab and all the host who was with him had come, they told Joab, saying, Abner the son of Ner came to the king, and he has sent him away, and he is gone in peace.
24
तेव्हा यवाब राजाकडे आला आणि म्हणाला, “हे आपण काय केलेत? अबनेर येथे आलेला असताना तुम्ही त्याला तसेच जाऊ दिलेत! असे का?
24
Then Joab came to the king, and said, What have you done? behold, Abner came to you; why is it that you have sent him away, and he is quite gone?
25
या नेरच्या मुलाला तुम्ही ओळखताच. त्याचा यात कावा आहे. तो येथील बित्तंबातमी काढायला आला होता.”
25
You know Abner the son of Ner, that he came to deceive you, and to know your going out and your coming in, and to know all that you do.
26
मग दावीदाकडून निघून यवाबाने आपले दूत अबनेरच्या मागावर पाठवले. त्यांनी त्याला सिरा विहिरीजवळ गाठले आणि परत आणले. दावीदाला याची काहीच कल्पना नव्हती.

When Joab was come out from David, he sent messengers after Abner, and they brought him back from the well of Sirah: but David didn't know it.
27
हेब्रोन येथे त्याला आणल्यावर यवाबाने त्याला गुप्त मसलत करण्यासाठी म्हणून वेशीच्या आत घेतले आणि अबनेरच्या पोटात वार केला. अबनेर गतप्राण झाला. यवाबाचा भाऊ असाएल याला अबनेरने मारले होते त्याचा यवाबाने सूड उगवला.

When Abner was returned to Hebron, Joab took him aside into the midst of the gate to speak with him quietly, and struck him there in the body, so that he died, for the blood of Asahel his brother.

दावीदाला हे वृत्त समजले तेव्हा तो म्हणाला, “नेरचा मुलगा अबनेर याच्या खुनाच्या बाबतीत मी आणि माझे राज्य निर्दोष आहोत. परमेश्वर हे जाणतो.

Afterward, when David heard it, he said, I and my kingdom are guiltless before Yahweh forever of the blood of Abner the son of Ner:
29
यवाब आणि त्याचे कुटुंबीय या कृत्याला जबाबदार आहेत. तेव्हा अपराधी ते आहेत. (याचे फळ त्यांना भोगावे लागेल) त्याच्या वंशातील लोक महारोग, पंगुत्व यांनी ग्रासले जातील, युध्दात मारले जातील. त्याची अन्नान्नदशा होईल.”

let it fall on the head of Joab, and on all his father's house; and let there not fail from the house of Joab one who has an issue, or who is a leper, or who leans on a staff, or who falls by the sword, or who lacks bread.

गिबोनच्या लढाईत अबनेरने असाएलला मारले. आपल्या भावाच्या वधाचे प्रत्युत्तर म्हणून यवाब आणि अबीशय यांनी अबनेरला मारले.

So Joab and Abishai his brother killed Abner, because he had killed their brother Asahel at Gibeon in the battle.
31
दावीदाने यवाब व त्याच्या बरोबरचे सर्व लोक यांना सांगितले, “तुमची ही वस्त्रे फाडा आणि शोक झाला असल्याचे दाखवणारी वस्त्रे घाला. अबनेरच्या मृत्युबद्दल दु:ख व्यक्त करा.” त्यांनी हेब्रोन येथे अबनेरचे दफन केले. दावीद अत्यंविधीला हजर होता. अबनेरच्या कबरीपाशी राजा आणि इतर सर्व जण यांनी विलाप केला.

David said to Joab, and to all the people who were with him, Tear your clothes, and gird you with sackcloth, and mourn before Abner. King David followed the bier.
32

They buried Abner in Hebron: and the king lifted up his voice, and wept at the grave of Abner; and all the people wept.
33
तेथे दावीद राजाने हे शोकगीत म्हटले“एखाद्या मूढ गुन्हेगाराप्रमाणे अबनेर मेला, नाही का?
33
The king lamented for Abner, and said, Should Abner die as a fool dies?
34
अबनेर, अरे, तुझ्या हातात बेड्या नव्हत्या, पाय साखळदंडांनी बांधले नव्हते नाही रे, तुला कपटी लोकांनी मारले.”मग पुन्हा सर्वांनी अबनेरसाठी शोक व्यक्त केला.

Your hands were not bound, nor your feet put into fetters: As a man falls before the children of iniquity, so did you fall. All the people wept again over him.
35
दावीदाने काही तरी खाऊन घ्यावे म्हणून दिवसभर लोकांनी त्याची मनधरणी केली. पण दावीदाने एक निर्धार केला होता. “सूर्यास्तापूर्वी मी भाकर किंवा तत्सम काहीही खाल्ले तरी देव मला शासन करो, मला संकटात टाको “असे तो बोलला होता.”

All the people came to cause David to eat bread while it was yet day; but David swore, saying, God do so to me, and more also, if I taste bread, or anything else, until the sun be down.
36
लोकांनी हे सर्व पाहिले आणि दावीद राजाची वर्तणूक पाहून त्यांना आनंद झाला.
36
All the people took notice of it, and it pleased them; as whatever the king did pleased all the people.
37
दावीदाने अबनेरला मारलेले नाही याबद्दल यहूदा आणि इस्राएल लोकांची खात्री पटली.
37
So all the people and all Israel understood that day that it was not of the king to kill Abner the son of Ner.
38
दावीद राजा आपल्या सेवकांना म्हणाला, “आज एक महत्वाचा पुढारी इस्राएलमध्ये मारला गेला हे तुम्ही जाणताच.

The king said to his servants, "Don't you know that there a prince and a great man has fallen this day in Israel?
39
त्याच दिवशी राजा म्हणून माझा राज्याभिषेक झाला. सरुवेच्या मुलांचे हे वर्तन मला फार त्रासदायक झाले आहे. परमेश्वर त्यांच्या गुन्ह्याबद्दल त्यांना तसेच शासन करो.”
39
I am this day weak, though anointed king; and these men the sons of Zeruiah are too hard for me. May Yahweh reward the evil-doer according to his wickedness."
