स्त्रियांबद्दल शलमोनाला आकर्षण होते. इस्राएल देशाच्या बाहेरच्याही अनेक स्त्रिया त्याच्या आवडत्या होत्या. फारोच्या मुलीखेरीज, हिती, मवाबी, अम्मोनी, अदोमी, सिदोनी अशा परक्या देशातील स्त्रियांनाही त्याने आपलेसे केले.

Now king Solomon loved many foreign women, together with the daughter of Pharaoh, women of the Moabites, Ammonites, Edomites, Sidonians, and Hittites;

परमेश्वराने पूर्वीच इस्राएल लोकांना सांगितले होते “परक्या देशातील लोकांशी विवाह संबंध ठेवू नका. तसे केलेत तर ते तुम्हाला त्यांच्या दैवतांच्या भजनी लावतील.” असे असूनही शलमोन या बायकांच्या प्रेमात पडला.

of the nations concerning which Yahweh said to the children of Israel, You shall not go among them, neither shall they come among you; for surely they will turn away your heart after their gods: Solomon joined to these in love.

त्याला सातशे बायका होत्या. (त्या सर्व इतर देशांच्या प्रमुखांच्या मुली होत्या) उपपत्नी म्हणून त्याला आणखी तीनशे दासीही होत्या. ह्या बायकांनी त्याला देवापासून दूर जाण्यास भाग पाडले.

He had seven hundred wives, princesses, and three hundred concubines; and his wives turned away his heart.

तो वृध्द झाला तेव्हा त्याच्या बायकांनी त्याला इतर दैवतांकडे वळवले. आपले वडील दावीद याच्या प्रमाणे शलमोन परमेश्वराशी एकनिष्ठ राहिला नाही.

For it happened, when Solomon was old, that his wives turned away his heart after other gods; and his heart was not perfect with Yahweh his God, as was the heart of David his father.

सिदोनी लोकांच्या अष्टोरेथ देवाची त्याने पूजा केली. तसेच अम्मोन्यांचे अमंगळ दैवत मिलकोम यालाही त्याने भजले.

For Solomon went after Ashtoreth the goddess of the Sidonians, and after Milcom the abomination of the Ammonites.

अशाप्रकारे त्याने परमेश्वराचा अपराथ केला. आपले वडील दावीद यांच्याप्रमाणे तो परमेश्वराला पूर्णपणे अनुसरला नाही.

Solomon did that which was evil in the sight of Yahweh, and didn't go fully after Yahweh, as did David his father.

कमोश या मवाबी लोकांच्या भंयकर दैवताच्या पूजेसाठी शलमोनाने एक पूजास्थळ बांधले. हे यरुशलेम नजीकच्या टेकडीवर होते. त्याच टेकडीवर मोलख या अम्मोनी लोकांच्या भयंकर दैवतासाठीही एक स्थळ केले.

Then did Solomon build a high place for Chemosh the abomination of Moab, on the mountain that is before Jerusalem, and for Molech the abomination of the children of Ammon.

आपल्या इतर, प्रत्येक देशातल्या बायकांसाठीही त्याने अशीच सोय केली. त्या आपापल्या ठिकाणी धूप जाळत आणि आपापल्या दैवतांसाठी यज्ञ करत.

So did he for all his foreign wives, who burnt incense and sacrificed to their gods.

इस्राएलचा देव परमेश्वर याच्यापासून शलमोन परावुत्त झाला. तेव्हा परमेश्वराचा शलमोनावर कोप झाला. परमेश्वराने शलमोनाला दोनदा दर्शन दिले होते.

Yahweh was angry with Solomon, because his heart was turned away from Yahweh, the God of Israel, who had appeared to him twice,
10
इतर दैवतांच्या मागे त्याने जाऊ नये असे बजावले होते. पण शलमोनाने परमेश्वराच्या या आज्ञेचे उल्लंघन केले.

and had commanded him concerning this thing, that he should not go after other gods: but he didn't keep that which Yahweh commanded.
11
तेव्हा परमेश्वर त्याला म्हणाला, “तू आपण होऊन आपल्या कराराचा भंग केला आहेस. माझी आज्ञा तू पाळली नाहीस. तेव्हा तुझ्या कडून राज्य हिसकावून घेण्याची मी प्रतिज्ञा करतो. तुझ्या एखाद्या सेवकाला मी ते देईल.

Therefore Yahweh said to Solomon, Because this is done of you, and you have not kept my covenant and my statutes, which I have commanded you, I will surely tear the kingdom from you, and will give it to your servant.
12
पण तुझे वडील दावीद यांच्यावर माझे प्रेम होते. त्याखातर तू हयात असेपर्यंत मी तुलाच राज्यावर ठेवीन तुझा मुलगा गादीवर बसेपर्यंत वाट पाहीन. मग त्याच्याकडून ते घेईन.

Notwithstanding in your days I will not do it, for David your father's sake: but I will tear it out of the hand of your son.
13
तरी सगळेच राज्य हिसकावून घेणार नाही. एकाच घराण्यावर त्याची सत्ता ठेवीन. दावीदासाठी मी एवढे करीन. तो माझा आवडता सेवक होता. तसेच यरुशलेमसाठी मला एवढे केले पाहिजे कारण ते नगर मी निवडले आहे.”

However I will not tear away all the kingdom; but I will give one tribe to your son, for David my servant's sake, and for Jerusalem's sake which I have chosen.
14
आणि मग परमेश्वराने अदोममधल्या हदादला शलमोनाचा शत्रू केले. हदाद अदोमच्या राजघराण्यातला होता.

Yahweh raised up an adversary to Solomon, Hadad the Edomite: he was of the king's seed in Edom.
15
त्याचे असे झाले दावीदाने पूर्वी अदोमचा पराभव केला होता. यवाब तेव्हा दावीदाचा सेनापती होता. तो अदोम येथे मृतांचे दफन करायला गेला. त्याने सर्वांची कत्तल केली होती.

For it happened, when David was in Edom, and Joab the captain of the host was gone up to bury the slain, and had struck every male in Edom
16
यवाब आणि सर्व इस्राएल लोक यांनी अदोममध्ये सहा महिने मुक्काम केला. त्या काळात त्यांनी अदोममध्ये कुणाही पुरुषाला जिवंत ठेवले नाही.

(for Joab and all Israel remained there six months, until he had cut off every male in Edom);
17
हदाद त्यावेळी अगदी लहान होता. तेव्हा तो मिसर येथे पळून गेला. त्याच्या वडीलांचे काही सेवकही त्याच्याबरोबर गेले.

that Hadad fled, he and certain Edomites of his father's servants with him, to go into Egypt, Hadad being yet a little child.

1मिद्यानहून पुढे ते सर्व पारान येथे गेले. तिथे त्यांना आणखी काही जण येऊन मिळाले. मग हा सगळा जथा मिसरला गेला. मिसरचा राजा फारो याच्याकडे त्यांनी आश्रय घेतला. फारोने हदादला राहायला एक घर आणि थोडी जमीन देऊ केली. त्याच्या अन्रवस्त्राची सोय केली.

They arose out of Midian, and came to Paran; and they took men with them out of Paran, and they came to Egypt, to Pharaoh king of Egypt, who gave him a house, and appointed him food, and gave him land.
19
फारोची हदादवर मर्जी बसली. तेव्हा त्याने आपल्या मेहुणीशी त्याचे लग्रही लावून दिले. (तहपनेस ही राजाची राणी होती)

Hadad found great favor in the sight of Pharaoh, so that he gave him as wife the sister of his own wife, the sister of Tahpenes the queen.
20
या तहपनेसच्या बहिणीचे हदादशी लग्न झाले. त्यांना गनुबथ नावाचा मुलगा झाला. राणी तहपनेसच्या संमतीने तो राजवाड्यात फारोच्या मुलां बरोबरच वाढला.

The sister of Tahpenes bore him Genubath his son, whom Tahpenes weaned in Pharaoh's house; and Genubath was in Pharaoh's house among the sons of Pharaoh.
21
दावीदाच्या मृत्यूची खबर हदादने मिसरमध्ये ऐकली. सेनापती यवाब मरण पावल्याचेही त्याला कळले. तेव्हा हदाद राजा फारोला म्हणाला, “मला माझ्या मायदेशी परत जाऊ दे.”

When Hadad heard in Egypt that David slept with his fathers, and that Joab the captain of the host was dead, Hadad said to Pharaoh, Let me depart, that I may go to my own country.
22
तेव्हा फारो त्याला म्हणाला, “येथे तुला हवे ते सर्व काही मी दिले आहे. असे असताना तू परत का जातोस?”तेव्हा हदादने पुन्हा जाऊ देण्याबद्दल विनंती केली.

Then Pharaoh said to him, But what have you lacked with me, that behold, you seek to go to your own country? He answered, Nothing: however only let me depart.
23
देवाने शलमोनासाठी आणखी एक शत्रू निर्माण केला. तो म्हणजे रजोन. हा एल्यादाचा मुलगा. सोबाचा राजा हददेर याचा रजोन हा सेवक होता. त्याच्याकडून तो पळाला.

God raised up another adversary to him, Rezon the son of Eliada, who had fled from his lord Hadadezer king of Zobah.
24
दावीदाने सोबाच्या सैन्याचा पाडाव केल्यानंतर रजोनने काही माणसे जमवली आणि त्या टोळीचा तो नायक बनला. दिमिष्कामध्ये जाऊन मग तो राहिला. तिथला राजा झाला

He gathered men to him, and became captain over a troop, when David killed them of Zobah: and they went to Damascus, and lived therein, and reigned in Damascus.
25
अरामवर रजोनने राज्य केले. इस्राएलबद्दल त्याला चीड होती, तेव्हा शलमोनाच्या संपूर्ण कारकिर्दीत त्याचे इस्राएलशी वैरच होते. हदाद आणि रजोन यांनी मिळून इस्राएलला बराच त्रास दिला.

He was an adversary to Israel all the days of Solomon, besides the mischief that Hadad did: and he abhorred Israel, and reigned over Syria.

नबाट याचा मुलगा यराबाम हा शलमोनाचा एक सेवक. हा एफ्राईम घराण्यातला असून सरेदा नगरातील होता. याच्या आईचे नाव सरुवा. त्याचे वडील वारले होते. हा यराबाम पुढे राजाच्या विरुध्द गेला.

Jeroboam the son of Nebat, an Ephraimite of Zeredah, a servant of Solomon, whose mother's name was Zeruah, a widow, he also lifted up his hand against the king.
27
त्याची कथा अशी. मिल्लोचे बांधकाम आणि दावीदनगराच्या तटबंदीला पडलेली खिंडारे बुजवण्याचे काम शलमोन करुन घेत होता.

This was the reason why he lifted up his hand against the king: Solomon built Millo, and repaired the breach of the city of David his father.

यराबाम हा अंगापिडाने मजबूत होता. हा या कामाला चांगला असल्याचे शलमोनाने हेरले आणि त्याला योसेफ घराण्यातील कामगारांचा अधीक्षक म्हणून नेमले.

The man Jeroboam was a mighty man of valor; and Solomon saw the young man that he was industrious, and he gave him charge over all the labor of the house of Joseph.
29
एवदा यराबाम यरुशलेमच्या बाहेर गेला होता. तेव्हा त्याला शिलो येथील अहीया नावाचा संदेष्टा वाटेत भेटला. अहीयाने नवीन अंगरखा घातला होता. या दोघांखेरीज तेव्हा त्या भागात आणखीकोणी नव्हते.

It happened at that time, when Jeroboam went out of Jerusalem, that the prophet Ahijah the Shilonite found him in the way; now Ahijah had clad himself with a new garment; and they two were alone in the field.

अहीयाने आपला अंगरखा काढला आणि त्याचे फाडून बारा तुकडे केले.

Ahijah laid hold of the new garment that was on him, and tore it in twelve pieces.
31
मग अहीया यराबामला म्हणाला, “यातले दहा तुकडे तू स्वत:जवळ ठेव. इस्राएलचा देव परमेश्वर याने सांगितले आहे ‘शलमोनाच्या हातातून राज्य काढून घेऊन त्यातील दहा वंशाचा अधिकार मी तुला देईन.

He said to Jeroboam, Take ten pieces; for thus says Yahweh, the God of Israel, Behold, I will tear the kingdom out of the hand of Solomon, and will give ten tribes to you
32
आणि दावीदाच्या घराण्यात फक्त एकाच वंशाची मालकी शिल्लक ठेवीन. माझा सेवक दावीद आणि हे यरुशलेम नगर यांच्या खातर मी एवढे करीन. इस्राएलच्या सर्व वंशांतून मी यरुशलेम नगराची निवड केली आहे.

(but he shall have one tribe, for my servant David's sake and for Jerusalem's sake, the city which I have chosen out of all the tribes of Israel);
33
शलमोनाने माझा त्याग केला म्हणून मी त्याच्याकडून राज्य काढून घेणार आहे. सिदोन्यांची देवी अष्टोरेथ, मवाबचा कमोश, अम्मोन्यांचा मिलकोम या खोट्यानाट्या दैवतांचे तो भजनपूजन करतो. जे योग्य आणि न्याय्य ते आता तो करत नाही. माझ्या आज्ञा आणि नियम तो पाळत नाही. त्याचे वडील दावीद ज्या पध्दतीने जगले तसे याचे नाही.

because that they have forsaken me, and have worshiped Ashtoreth the goddess of the Sidonians, Chemosh the god of Moab, and Milcom the god of the children of Ammon; and they have not walked in my ways, to do that which is right in my eyes, and to keep my statutes and my ordinances, as did David his father.

तेव्हा आता त्याच्या घराण्यातून मी सत्ता काढून घेत आहे. मात्र शलमोन जिवंत असेपर्यंत तोच गादीवर राहील. माझा सेवक दावीद याच्या लोभाखातर मी एवढे करीन. माझे सर्व नियम आणि आज्ञा दावीदने पाळल्या म्हणून मी त्याला निवडले.

However I will not take the whole kingdom out of his hand; but I will make him prince all the days of his life, for David my servant's sake whom I chose, who kept my commandments and my statutes;
35
पण त्याच्या मुलाच्या हातून मी राज्य काढून घेणार आहे आणि यराबाम, दहा घराण्यावरील सत्ता मी तुझ्या हाती सोपवीन.

but I will take the kingdom out of his son's hand, and will give it to you, even ten tribes.
36
शलमोनाच्या मुलाची एका वंशावरील सत्ता तशीच अबाधित ठेवीन. म्हणजे यरुशलेममध्ये माझा सेवक दावीद याचा वंशजच सतत राज्य करील. यरुशलेम हे नगर मी आपले स्वत:चे म्हणून निवडले.

To his son will I give one tribe, that David my servant may have a lamp always before me in Jerusalem, the city which I have chosen me to put my name there.
37
बाकी तुला हवे तेथे तू राज्य करशील. सर्व इस्राएलवर तुझी सत्ता चालेल.
37
I will take you, and you shall reign according to all that your soul desires, and shall be king over Israel.
38
“माझ्या आज्ञांचे पालन करत तू योग्य मार्गाने आयुष्य घालवलेस तर मी हे तुला देईन. दावीदाप्रमाणे माझी सर्व आज्ञा आणि नियम पाळलेस तर माझी तुला साथ असेल. दावीदा प्रमाणेच तुझ्याही घराण्याला मी राजघराणे करीन. इस्राएल तुला देईन.

It shall be, if you will listen to all that I command you, and will walk in my ways, and do that which is right in my eyes, to keep my statutes and my commandments, as David my servant did; that I will be with you, and will build you a sure house, as I built for David, and will give Israel to you.
39
शलमोनाच्या वर्तणुकीची शिक्षा मी त्याच्या मुलांना करीन. पण काही काळापुरती, सर्वकाळ नव्हे.”‘
39
I will for this afflict the seed of David, but not forever.
40
शलमोनाने यराबामच्या वधाचा प्रयत्न केला. पण यराबामने मिसरला पलायन केले. मिसरचा राजा शिशक याच्याकडे तो गेला. शलमोनाच्या मृत्यूपर्यंत यराबाम तिथेच राहिला.

Solomon sought therefore to kill Jeroboam; but Jeroboam arose, and fled into Egypt, to Shishak king of Egypt, and was in Egypt until the death of Solomon.

शलमोनाने सत्तेवर असताना बऱ्याच मोठमोठ्या आणि सुज्ञपणाच्या गोष्टी केल्या. शलमोनचा इतिहास या पुस्तकात त्या सर्व लिहिलेल्या आहेत.

Now the rest of the acts of Solomon, and all that he did, and his wisdom, aren't they written in the book of the acts of Solomon?

यरुशलेममधून त्याने सर्व इस्राएलवर चाळीस वर्षे राज्य केले 43मग तो वारला तेव्हा त्याच्या पूर्वजांशेजारी दावीदनगरामध्ये त्याचे दफन करण्यात आले.

The time that Solomon reigned in Jerusalem over all Israel was forty years.

Solomon slept with his fathers, and was buried in the city of David his father: and Rehoboam his son reigned in his place.
