1അനന്തരം യേശു പുരുഷാരത്തോടും തന്റെ ശിഷ്യന്മാരോടും പറഞ്ഞതു
1Then Jesus spoke to the multitudes and to his disciples,
2“ശാസ്ത്രിമാരും പരീശന്മാരും മോശെയുടെ പീഠത്തില്‍ ഇരിക്കുന്നു.
2saying, "The scribes and the Pharisees sat on Moses' seat.
3ആകയാല്‍ അവര്‍ നിങ്ങളോടു പറയുന്നതു ഒക്കെയും പ്രമാണിച്ചു ചെയ്‍വിന്‍ ; അവരുടെ പ്രവൃത്തികള്‍ പോലെ ചെയ്യരുതു താനും. അവര്‍ പറയുന്നതല്ലാതെ ചെയ്യുന്നില്ലല്ലോ.
3All things therefore whatever they tell you to observe, observe and do, but don't do their works; for they say, and don't do.
4അവര്‍ ഘനമുള്ള ചുമടുകളെ കെട്ടി മനുഷ്യരുടെ തോളില്‍ വെക്കുന്നു; ഒരു വിരല്‍ കെണ്ടുപോലും അവയെ തൊടുവാന്‍ അവര്‍ക്കും മനസ്സില്ല.
4For they bind heavy burdens that are grievous to be borne, and lay them on men's shoulders; but they themselves will not lift a finger to help them.
5അവര്‍ തങ്ങളുടെ പ്രവൃത്തികള്‍ എല്ലാം മനുഷ്യര്‍ കാണേണ്ടതിന്നത്രേ ചെയ്യുന്നതു; തങ്ങളുടെ മന്ത്രപ്പട്ട വീതിയാക്കി തൊങ്ങല്‍ വലുതാക്കുന്നു.
5But all their works they do to be seen by men. They make their phylacteries broad, enlarge the fringes of their garments,
6അത്താഴത്തില്‍ പ്രധാനസ്ഥലവും പള്ളിയില്‍ മുഖ്യാസനവും
6and love the place of honor at feasts, the best seats in the synagogues,
7അങ്ങാടിയില്‍ വന്ദനവും മനുഷ്യര്‍ റബ്ബീ എന്നു വളിക്കുന്നതും അവര്‍ക്കും പ്രിയമാകുന്നു.
7the salutations in the marketplaces, and to be called 'Rabbi, Rabbi' by men.
8നിങ്ങളോ റബ്ബീ എന്നു പേര്‍ എടുക്കരുതു. ഒരുത്തന്‍ അത്രേ നിങ്ങളുടെ ഗുരു;
8But don't you be called 'Rabbi,' for one is your teacher, the Christ, and all of you are brothers.
9നിങ്ങളോ എല്ലാവരും സഹോദരന്മാര്‍. ഭൂമിയില്‍ ആരെയും പിതാവു എന്നു വിളിക്കരുതു; ഒരുത്തന്‍ അത്രേ നിങ്ങളുടെ പിതാവു, സ്വര്‍ഗ്ഗസ്ഥന്‍ തന്നേ.
9Call no man on the earth your father, for one is your Father, he who is in heaven.
10നിങ്ങള്‍ നായകന്മാര്‍ എന്നും പേര്‍ എടുക്കരുതു, ഒരുത്തന്‍ അത്രേ നിങ്ങളുടെ നായകന്‍ , ക്രിസ്തു തന്നെ.
10Neither be called masters, for one is your master, the Christ.
11നിങ്ങളില്‍ ഏറ്റവും വലിയവന്‍ നിങ്ങളുടെ ശുശ്രൂഷക്കാരന്‍ ആകേണം.
11But he who is greatest among you will be your servant.
12തന്നെത്താന്‍ ഉയര്‍ത്തുന്നവന്‍ എല്ലാം താഴ്ത്തപ്പെടും; തന്നെത്താന്‍ താഴ്ത്തുന്നവന്‍ എല്ലാം ഉയര്‍ത്തപ്പെടും.
12Whoever exalts himself will be humbled, and whoever humbles himself will be exalted.
13കപടഭക്തിക്കാരായ ശാസ്ത്രിമാരും പരീശന്മാരുമായുള്ളോരേ, നിങ്ങള്‍ക്കു ഹാ കഷ്ടം; നിങ്ങള്‍ മനുഷ്യര്‍ക്കും സ്വര്‍ഗ്ഗരാജ്യം അടെച്ചുകളയുന്നു; നിങ്ങള്‍ കടക്കുന്നില്ല, കടക്കുന്നവരെ കടപ്പാന്‍ സമ്മതിക്കുന്നതുമില്ല. (കപടഭക്തിക്കാരായ ശാസ്ത്രിമാരും പരീശന്മാരുമായുള്ളോരേ, നിങ്ങള്‍ക്കു ഹാ കഷ്ടം; നിങ്ങള്‍ വിധവമാരുടെ വീടുകളെ വിഴുങ്ങുകയും ഉപായരൂപേണ ദീര്‍ഘമായി പ്രാര്‍ത്ഥിക്കയും ചെയ്യുന്നു; ഇതു ഹേതുവായി നിങ്ങള്‍ക്കു കടുമയേറിയ ശിക്ഷാവിധി വരും;)
13"Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you devour widows' houses, and as a pretense you make long prayers. Therefore you will receive greater condemnation.
14കപടഭക്തിക്കാരായ ശാസ്ത്രിമാരും പരീശന്മാരുമായുള്ളോരേ, നിങ്ങള്‍ക്കു ഹാ കഷ്ടം; നിങ്ങള്‍ ഒരുത്തനെ മതത്തില്‍ ചേര്‍ക്കുംവാന്‍ കടലും കരയും ചുറ്റി നടക്കുന്നു; ചേര്‍ന്നശേഷം അവനെ നിങ്ങളെക്കാള്‍ ഇരട്ടിച്ച നരകയോഗ്യന്‍ ആക്കുന്നു.
14"But woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! Because you shut up the Kingdom of Heaven against men; for you don't enter in yourselves, neither do you allow those who are entering in to enter.
15ആരെങ്കിലും മന്ദിരത്തെച്ചൊല്ലി സത്യം ചെയ്താല്‍ ഏതുമില്ല എന്നും മന്ദിരത്തിലെ സ്വര്‍ണ്ണത്തെച്ചൊല്ലി സത്യം ചെയ്യുന്നവനോ കടക്കാരന്‍ എന്നും പറയുന്ന കുരുടന്മാരായ വഴികാട്ടികളേ, നിങ്ങള്‍ക്കു ഹാ കഷ്ടം.
15Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you travel around by sea and land to make one proselyte; and when he becomes one, you make him twice as much of a son of Gehenna as yourselves.
16മൂഢന്മാരും കുരുടുന്മാരുമായുള്ളോരേ, ഏതു വലിയതു? സ്വര്‍ണ്ണമോ സ്വര്‍ണ്ണത്തെ ശുദ്ധീകരിക്കുന്ന മന്ദിരമോ?
16"Woe to you, you blind guides, who say, 'Whoever swears by the temple, it is nothing; but whoever swears by the gold of the temple, he is obligated.'
17യാഗപീഠത്തെച്ചൊല്ലി സത്യം ചെയ്താല്‍ ഏതുമില്ല; അതിന്മേലുള്ള വഴിപാടു ചൊല്ലി സത്യം ചെയ്യുന്നവനോ കടക്കാരന്‍ എന്നു നിങ്ങള്‍ പറയുന്നു.
17You blind fools! For which is greater, the gold, or the temple that sanctifies the gold?
18കുരുടന്മാരായുള്ളോരേ, ഏതു വലിയതു? വഴിപാടോ വഴിപാടിനെ ശുദ്ധീകരിക്കുന്ന യാഗ പീഠമോ?
18'Whoever swears by the altar, it is nothing; but whoever swears by the gift that is on it, he is obligated.'
19ആകയാല്‍ യാഗപിഠത്തെച്ചൊല്ലി സത്യം ചെയ്യുന്നവന്‍ അതിനെയും അതിന്മേലുള്ള സകലത്തെയും ചൊല്ലി സത്യം ചെയ്യുന്നു.
19You blind fools! For which is greater, the gift, or the altar that sanctifies the gift?
20മന്ദിരത്തെച്ചൊല്ലി സത്യം ചെയ്യുന്നവന്‍ അതിനെയും അതില്‍ വസിക്കുന്നവനെയും ചൊല്ലി സത്യം ചെയ്യുന്നു.
20He therefore who swears by the altar, swears by it, and by everything on it.
21സ്വര്‍ഗ്ഗത്തെച്ചൊല്ലി സത്യംചെയ്യുന്നവന്‍ , ദൈവത്തിന്റെ സിംഹാസനത്തെയും അതില്‍ ഇരിക്കുന്നവനെയും ചൊല്ലി സത്യം ചെയ്യുന്നു.
21He who swears by the temple, swears by it, and by him who was living in it.
22കപട ഭക്തിക്കാരായ ശാസ്ത്രിമാരും പരീശന്മാരുമായുള്ളോരേ, നിങ്ങള്‍ക്കു ഹാ കഷ്ടം; നിങ്ങള്‍ തുളസി, ചതകുപ്പ, ജീരകം ഇവയില്‍ പതാരം കൊടുക്കയും ന്യായം, കരുണ, വിശ്വസ്തത ഇങ്ങനെ ന്യായപ്രമാണത്തില്‍ ഘനമേറിയവ ത്യജിച്ചുകളകയും ചെയ്യുന്നു. അതു ചെയ്കയും ഇതു ത്യജിക്കാതിരിക്കയും വേണം.
22He who swears by heaven, swears by the throne of God, and by him who sits on it.
23കുരുടന്മാരായ വഴികാട്ടികളേ, നിങ്ങള്‍ കൊതുകിനെ അരിച്ചെടുക്കയും ഒട്ടകത്തെ വിഴുങ്ങിക്കളകയും ചെയ്യുന്നു.
23"Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you tithe mint, dill, and cumin, and have left undone the weightier matters of the law: justice, mercy, and faith. But you ought to have done these, and not to have left the other undone.
24കപടഭക്തിക്കാരായ ശാസ്ത്രിമാരും പരീശന്മാരുമായുള്ളോരേ, നിങ്ങള്‍ക്കു ഹാ കഷ്ടം; നിങ്ങള്‍ കിണ്ടികിണ്ണങ്ങളുടെ പുറം വെടിപ്പാക്കുന്നു; അകത്തോ കവര്‍ച്ചയും അതിക്രമവും നിറഞ്ഞിരിക്കുന്നു.
24You blind guides, who strain out a gnat, and swallow a camel!
25കുരുടനായ പരീശനെ, കിണ്ടികിണ്ണങ്ങളുടെ പുറം വെടിപ്പാക്കേണ്ടതിന്നു മുമ്പെ അവയുടെ അകം വെടിപ്പാക്കുക.
25"Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you clean the outside of the cup and of the platter, but within they are full of extortion and unrighteousness.
26കപടഭക്തിക്കാരായ ശാസ്ത്രിമാരും പരീശന്മാരുമായുള്ളോരേ, നിങ്ങള്‍ക്കു ഹാ കഷ്ടം; വെള്ളതേച്ച ശവക്കല്ലറകളോടു നിങ്ങള്‍ ഒത്തിരിക്കുന്നു; അവ പുറമെ അഴകായി ശോഭിക്കുന്നെങ്കിലും അകമെ ചത്തവരുടെ അസ്ഥികളും സകലവിധ അശുദ്ധിയും നിറഞ്ഞിരിക്കുന്നു.
26You blind Pharisee, first clean the inside of the cup and of the platter, that the outside of it may become clean also.
27അങ്ങനെ തന്നേ പുറമെ നിങ്ങള്‍ നീതിമാന്മാര്‍ എന്നു മനുഷ്യര്‍ക്കും തോന്നുന്നു; അകമെയോ കപടഭക്തിയും അധര്‍മ്മവും നിറഞ്ഞവരത്രേ.
27"Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you are like whitened tombs, which outwardly appear beautiful, but inwardly are full of dead men's bones, and of all uncleanness.
28കപടഭക്തിക്കാരായ ശാസ്ത്രിമാരും പരീശന്മാരുമായുള്ളോരേ, നിങ്ങള്‍ക്കു ഹാ കഷ്ടം; നിങ്ങള്‍ പ്രവാചകന്മാരുടെ കല്ലറകളെ പണിതും നീതിമാന്മാരുടെ കല്ലറകളെ അലങ്കരിച്ചുംകൊണ്ടു
28Even so you also outwardly appear righteous to men, but inwardly you are full of hypocrisy and iniquity.
29ഞങ്ങള്‍ പിതാക്കന്മാരുടെ കാലത്തു ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നു എങ്കില്‍ പ്രവാചകന്മാരെ കൊല്ലുന്നതില്‍ കൂട്ടാളികള്‍ ആകയില്ലായിരുന്നു എന്നു പറയുന്നു.
29"Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you build the tombs of the prophets, and decorate the tombs of the righteous,
30അങ്ങനെ നിങ്ങള്‍ പ്രവാചകന്മാരെ കൊന്നവരുടെ മക്കള്‍ എന്നു നിങ്ങള്‍ തന്നേ സാക്ഷ്യം പറയുന്നുവല്ലോ.
30and say, 'If we had lived in the days of our fathers, we wouldn't have been partakers with them in the blood of the prophets.'
31പിതാക്കന്മാരുടെ അളവു നിങ്ങള്‍ പൂരിച്ചു കൊള്‍വിന്‍ .
31Therefore you testify to yourselves that you are children of those who killed the prophets.
32പാമ്പുകളേ, സര്‍പ്പസന്തതികളേ, നിങ്ങള്‍ നരകവിധി എങ്ങനെ ഒഴിഞ്ഞുപോകും?
32Fill up, then, the measure of your fathers.
33അതുകൊണ്ടു ഞാന്‍ പ്രവാചകന്മാരെയും ജ്ഞാനികളെയും ശാസ്ത്രിമാരെയും നിങ്ങളുടെ അടുക്കല്‍ അയക്കുന്നു; അവരില്‍ ചിലരെ നിങ്ങള്‍ ക്രൂശിച്ചു കൊല്ലുകയും ചിലരെ നിങ്ങളുടെ പള്ളികളില്‍ ചമ്മട്ടികൊണ്ടു അടിക്കയും പട്ടണത്തില്‍ നിന്നു പട്ടണത്തിലേക്കു ഔടിക്കയും ചെയ്യും.
33You serpents, you offspring of vipers, how will you escape the judgment of Gehenna?
34നീതിമാനായ ഹാബേലിന്റെ രക്തംമുതല്‍ നിങ്ങള്‍ മന്ദിരത്തിന്നും യാഗപീഠത്തിന്നും നടുവില്‍വെച്ചു കൊന്നവനായി ബെരെഖ്യാവിന്റെ മകനായ സെഖര്യാവിന്റെ രക്തംവരെ ഭൂമിയില്‍ ചൊരിഞ്ഞ നീതിയുള്ള രക്തം എല്ലാം നിങ്ങളുടെമേല്‍ വരേണ്ടതാകുന്നു.
34Therefore, behold, I send to you prophets, wise men, and scribes. Some of them you will kill and crucify; and some of them you will scourge in your synagogues, and persecute from city to city;
35ഇതൊക്കെയും ഈ തലമുറമേല്‍ വരും എന്നു ഞാന്‍ സത്യമായിട്ടു നിങ്ങളോടു പറയുന്നു.
35that on you may come all the righteous blood shed on the earth, from the blood of righteous Abel to the blood of Zachariah son of Barachiah, whom you killed between the sanctuary and the altar.
36യെരൂശലേമേ, യെരൂശലേമേ, പ്രവാചകന്മാരെ കൊല്ലുകയും നിന്റെ അടുക്കല്‍ അയച്ചിരിക്കുന്നവരെ കല്ലെറികയും ചെയ്യുന്നവളേ, കോഴി തന്റെ കുഞ്ഞുങ്ങളെ ചിറകിന്‍ കീഴില്‍ ചേര്‍ക്കുംപോലെ നിന്റെ മക്കളെ ചേര്‍ത്തുകൊള്‍വാന്‍ എനിക്കു എത്രവട്ടം മനസ്സായിരുന്നു; നിങ്ങള്‍ക്കോ മനസ്സായില്ല.
36Most assuredly I tell you, all these things will come upon this generation.
37നിങ്ങളുടെ ഭവനം ശൂന്യമായ്തീരും.
37"Jerusalem, Jerusalem, who kills the prophets, and stones those who are sent to her! How often would I have gathered your children together, even as a hen gathers her chickens under her wings, and you would not!
38'കര്‍ത്താവിന്റെ നാമത്തില്‍ വരുന്നവന്‍ അനുഗ്രഹിക്കപ്പെട്ടവന്‍' എന്നു നിങ്ങള്‍ പറയുവോളം നിങ്ങള്‍ ഇനി എന്നെ കാണുകയില്ല എന്നു ഞാന്‍ നിങ്ങളോടു പറയുന്നു.”
38Behold, your house is left to you desolate.
39
39For I tell you, you will not see me from now on, until you say, 'Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord!'"
