1ഊസ് ദേശത്തു ഇയ്യോബ് എന്നു പേരുള്ളോരു പുരുഷന്‍ ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നു; അവന്‍ നിഷ്കളങ്കനും നേരുള്ളവനും ദൈവഭക്തനും ദോഷം വിട്ടകലുന്നവനും ആയിരുന്നു.
1There was a man in the land of Uz, whose name was Job. That man was blameless and upright, and one who feared God, and turned away from evil.
2അവന്നു ഏഴു പുത്രന്മാരും മൂന്നു പുത്രിമാരും ജനിച്ചു.
2There were born to him seven sons and three daughters.
3അവന്നു ഏഴായിരം ആടും മൂവായിരം ഒട്ടകവും അഞ്ഞൂറു ഏര്‍ കാളയും അഞ്ഞൂറു പെണ്‍ കഴുതയുമായ മൃഗസമ്പത്തും ഏറ്റവും വളരെ ദാസജനവും ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നു; അങ്ങനെ അവന്‍ സകലപൂര്‍വ്വദിഗ്വാസികളിലും മഹാനായിരുന്നു.
3His possessions also were seven thousand sheep, three thousand camels, five hundred yoke of oxen, five hundred she-donkeys, and a very great household; so that this man was the greatest of all the children of the east.
4അവന്റെ പുത്രന്മാര്‍ ഔരോരുത്തന്‍ താന്താന്റെ ദിവസത്തില്‍ താന്താന്റെ വീട്ടില്‍ വിരുന്നു കഴിക്കയും തങ്ങളോടുകൂടെ ഭക്ഷിച്ചു പാനം ചെയ്‍വാന്‍ തങ്ങളുടെ മൂന്നു സഹോദരിമാരെയും ആളയച്ചു വിളിപ്പിക്കയും ചെയ്ക പതിവായിരുന്നു.
4His sons went and held a feast in the house of each one on his birthday; and they sent and called for their three sisters to eat and to drink with them.
5എന്നാല്‍ വിരുന്നുനാളുകള്‍ വട്ടംതികയുമ്പോള്‍ ഇയ്യോബ് പക്ഷെ എന്റെ പുത്രന്മാര്‍ പാപം ചെയ്തു ദൈവത്തെ ഹൃദയംകൊണ്ടു ത്യജിച്ചുപോയിരിക്കും എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു ആളയച്ചു അവരെ വരുത്തി ശുദ്ധീകരിക്കയും നന്നാ രാവിലെ എഴുന്നേറ്റു അവരുടെ സംഖ്യകൂ ഒത്തവണ്ണം ഹോമയാഗങ്ങളെ കഴിക്കയും ചെയ്യും. ഇങ്ങനെ ഇയ്യോബ് എല്ലായ്പോഴും ചെയ്തുപോന്നു.
5It was so, when the days of their feasting had run their course, that Job sent and sanctified them, and rose up early in the morning, and offered burnt offerings according to the number of them all. For Job said, "It may be that my sons have sinned, and renounced God in their hearts." Thus did Job continually.
6ഒരു ദിവസം ദൈവപുത്രന്മാര്‍ യഹോവയുടെ സന്നിധിയില്‍ നില്പാന്‍ ചെന്നു; അവരുടെ കൂട്ടത്തില്‍ സാത്താനും ചെന്നു.
6Now it happened on the day when the sons of God came to present themselves before Yahweh, that Satan also came among them.
7യഹോവ സാത്താനോടുനീ എവിടെനിന്നു വരുന്നു എന്നു ചോദിച്ചതിന്നു സാത്താന്‍ യഹോവയോടുഞാന്‍ ഭൂമിയില്‍ ഊടാടി സഞ്ചരിച്ചിട്ടു വരുന്നു എന്നുത്തരം പറഞ്ഞു.
7Yahweh said to Satan, "Where have you come from?" Then Satan answered Yahweh, and said, "From going back and forth in the earth, and from walking up and down in it."
8യഹോവ സാത്താനോടുഎന്റെ ദാസനായ ഇയ്യോബിന്മേല്‍ നീ ദൃഷ്ടിവെച്ചുവോ? അവനെപ്പോലെ നിഷ്കളങ്കനും നേരുള്ളവനും ദൈവഭക്തനും ദോഷം വിട്ടകലുന്നവനും ഭൂമിയില്‍ ആരും ഇല്ലല്ലോ എന്നു അരുളിച്ചെയ്തു.
8Yahweh said to Satan, "Have you considered my servant, Job? For there is none like him in the earth, a blameless and an upright man, one who fears God, and turns away from evil."
9അതിന്നു സാത്താന്‍ യഹോവയോടുവെറുതെയോ ഇയ്യോബ് ദൈവഭക്തനായിരിക്കുന്നതു?
9Then Satan answered Yahweh, and said, "Does Job fear God for nothing?
10നീ അവന്നും അവന്റെ വീട്ടിന്നും അവന്നുള്ള സകലത്തിന്നും ചുറ്റും വേലികെട്ടീട്ടില്ലയോ? നീ അവന്റെ പ്രവൃത്തിയെ അനുഗ്രഹിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു; അവന്റെ മൃഗസമ്പത്തു ദേശത്തു പെരുകിയിരിക്കുന്നു.
10Haven't you made a hedge around him, and around his house, and around all that he has, on every side? You have blessed the work of his hands, and his substance is increased in the land.
11തൃക്കൈ നീട്ടി അവന്നുള്ളതൊക്കെയും ഒന്നു തൊടുക; അവന്‍ നിന്നെ മുഖത്തു നോക്കി ത്യജിച്ചുപറയും എന്നു ഉത്തരം പറഞ്ഞു.
11But put forth your hand now, and touch all that he has, and he will renounce you to your face."
12ദൈവം സാത്താനോടുഇതാ, അവന്നുള്ളതൊക്കെയും നിന്റെ കയ്യില്‍ ഇരിക്കുന്നു; അവന്റെ മേല്‍ മാത്രം കയ്യേറ്റം ചെയ്യരുതു എന്നു കല്പിച്ചു. അങ്ങനെ സാത്താന്‍ യഹോവയുടെ സന്നിധി വിട്ടു പുറപ്പെട്ടുപോയി.
12Yahweh said to Satan, "Behold, all that he has is in your power. Only on himself don't put forth your hand." So Satan went forth from the presence of Yahweh.
13ഒരു ദിവസം ഇയ്യോബിന്റെ പുത്രന്മാരും പുത്രിമാരും മൂത്ത ജ്യേഷ്ഠന്റെ വീട്ടില്‍ തിന്നുകയും വീഞ്ഞു കുടിക്കയും ചെയ്തുകൊണ്ടിരിക്കുമ്പോള്‍
13It fell on a day when his sons and his daughters were eating and drinking wine in their eldest brother's house,
14ഒരു ദൂതന്‍ അവന്റെ അടുക്കല്‍വന്നുകാളകളെ പൂട്ടുകയും പെണ്‍കഴുതകള്‍ അരികെ മേഞ്ഞുകൊണ്ടിരിക്കയും ആയിരുന്നു;
14that there came a messenger to Job, and said, "The oxen were plowing, and the donkeys feeding beside them,
15പെട്ടെന്നു ശെബായര്‍ വന്നു അവയെ പിടിച്ചു കൊണ്ടുപോകയും വേലക്കാരെ വാളിന്റെ വായ്ത്തലയാല്‍ വെട്ടിക്കൊല്ലുകയും ചെയ്തു; വിവരം നിന്നെ അറിയിപ്പാന്‍ ഞാന്‍ ഒരുത്തന്‍ മാത്രം വഴുതിപ്പോന്നു എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.
15and the Sabeans attacked, and took them away. Yes, they have killed the servants with the edge of the sword, and I alone have escaped to tell you."
16അവന്‍ സംസാരിച്ചുകൊണ്ടിരിക്കുമ്പോള്‍ തന്നേ വേറൊരുത്തന്‍ വന്നു; ദൈവത്തിന്റെ തീ ആകാശത്തുനിന്നു വീണു കത്തി, ആടുകളും വേലക്കാരും അതിന്നു ഇരയായ്പോയി; വിവരം നിന്നെ അറിയിപ്പാന്‍ ഞാന്‍ ഒരുത്തന്‍ മാത്രം വഴുതിപ്പോന്നു എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.
16While he was still speaking, there also came another, and said, "The fire of God has fallen from the sky, and has burned up the sheep and the servants, and consumed them, and I alone have escaped to tell you."
17അവന്‍ സംസാരിച്ചുകൊണ്ടിരിക്കുമ്പോള്‍ തന്നേ മറ്റൊരുത്തന്‍ വന്നുപെട്ടെന്നു കല്ദയര്‍ മൂന്നു കൂട്ടമായി വന്നു ഒട്ടകങ്ങളെ പിടിച്ചുകൊണ്ടു പോകയും വേലക്കാരെ വാളിന്റെ വായ്ത്തലയാല്‍ വെട്ടിക്കൊല്ലുകയും ചെയ്തു; വിവരം നിന്നെ അറിയിപ്പാന്‍ ഞാന്‍ ഒരുത്തന്‍ മാത്രം വഴുതിപ്പോന്നു എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.
17While he was still speaking, there came also another, and said, "The Chaldeans made three bands, and swept down on the camels, and have taken them away, yes, and killed the servants with the edge of the sword; and I alone have escaped to tell you."
18അവന്‍ സംസാരിച്ചുകൊണ്ടിരിക്കുമ്പോള്‍ മറ്റൊരുത്തന്‍ വന്നു; നിന്റെ പുത്രന്മാരും പുത്രിമാരും മൂത്ത ജ്യേഷ്ഠന്റെ വീട്ടില്‍ തിന്നുകയും വീഞ്ഞു കുടിക്കയും ചെയ്തുകൊണ്ടിരുന്നു.
18While he was still speaking, there came also another, and said, "Your sons and your daughters were eating and drinking wine in their eldest brother's house,
19പെട്ടെന്നു മരുഭൂമിയില്‍നിന്നു ഒരു കൊടുങ്കാറ്റു വന്നു വീട്ടിന്റെ നാലു മൂലെക്കും അടിച്ചുഅതു യൌവനക്കാരുടെമേല്‍ വീണു; അവര്‍ മരിച്ചുപോയി; വിവരം നിന്നെ അറിയിപ്പാന്‍ ഞാനൊരുത്തന്‍ മാത്രം വഴുതിപ്പോന്നു എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.
19and, behold, there came a great wind from the wilderness, and struck the four corners of the house, and it fell on the young men, and they are dead. I alone have escaped to tell you."
20അപ്പോള്‍ ഇയ്യോബ് എഴുന്നേറ്റു വസ്ത്രം കീറി തല ചിരെച്ചു സാഷ്ടാംഗം വീണു നമസ്കരിച്ചു
20Then Job arose, and tore his robe, and shaved his head, and fell down on the ground, and worshiped.
21നഗ്നനായി ഞാന്‍ എന്റെ അമ്മയുടെ ഗര്‍ഭത്തില്‍നിന്നു പുറപ്പെട്ടുവന്നു, നഗ്നനായി തന്നേ മടങ്ങിപ്പോകും, യഹോവ തന്നു, യഹോവ എടുത്തു, യഹോവയുടെ നാമം വാഴ്ത്തപ്പെടുമാറാകട്ടെ എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.
21He said, "Naked I came out of my mother's womb, and naked shall I return there. Yahweh gave, and Yahweh has taken away. Blessed be the name of Yahweh."
22ഇതിലൊന്നിലും ഇയ്യോബ് പാപം ചെയ്കയോ ദൈവത്തിന്നു ഭോഷത്വം ആരോപിക്കയോ ചെയ്തില്ല.
22In all this, Job did not sin, nor charge God with wrongdoing.
