യോശീയാവിന്റെ മകനായി യെഹൂദാരാജാവായ യെഹോയാക്കീമിന്റെ നാലാം ആണ്ടില് യഹോവയിങ്കല്നിന്നു യിരെമ്യാവിന്നുണ്ടായ അരുളപ്പാടാവിതു

The word which came to Jeremiah from Yahweh in the days of Jehoiakim the son of Josiah, king of Judah, saying,

നീ ഒരു പുസ്തകച്ചുരുള് മേടിച്ചു, ഞാന് യോശീയാവിന്റെ കാലത്തു നിന്നോടു സംസാരിച്ചുതുടങ്ങിയ നാള്മുതല് ഇന്നുവരെയും യിസ്രായേലിനെയും യെഹൂദയെയും സകലജാതികളെയുംകുറിച്ചു ഞാന് നിന്നോടു അരുളിച്ചെയ്ത വചനങ്ങളൊക്കെയും അതില് എഴുതുക.

Go to the house of the Rechabites, and speak to them, and bring them into the house of Yahweh, into one of the chambers, and give them wine to drink.
3
പക്ഷേ യെഹൂദാഗൃഹം ഞാന് അവര്ക്കും വരുത്തുവാന് വിചാരിക്കുന്ന സകല അനര്ത്ഥത്തെയും കുറിച്ചു കേട്ടിട്ടു ഔരോരുത്തന് താന്താന്റെ ദുര്മ്മാര്ഗ്ഗം വിട്ടുതിരിവാനും ഞാന് അവരുടെ അകൃത്യവും പാപവും ക്ഷമിപ്പാനും ഇടവരും.

Then I took Jaazaniah the son of Jeremiah, the son of Habazziniah, and his brothers, and all his sons, and the whole house of the Rechabites;

അങ്ങനെ യിരെമ്യാവു നേര്യ്യാവിന്റെ മകനായ ബാരൂക്കിനെ വിളിച്ചു; യഹോവ യിരെമ്യാവോടു അരുളിച്ചെയ്ത സകലവചനങ്ങളെയും അവന്റെ വാമൊഴിപ്രകാരം ബാരൂക് ഒരു പുസ്തകച്ചുരുളില് എഴുതി.

and I brought them into the house of Yahweh, into the chamber of the sons of Hanan the son of Igdaliah, the man of God, which was by the chamber of the princes, which was above the chamber of Maaseiah the son of Shallum, the keeper of the threshold.

യിരെമ്യാവു ബാരൂക്കിനോടു കല്പിച്ചതുഞാന് അടെക്കപ്പെട്ടിരിക്കുന്നു; എനിക്കു യഹോവയുടെ ആലയത്തില് പോകുവാന് കഴിവില്ല.

I set before the sons of the house of the Rechabites bowls full of wine, and cups; and I said to them, Drink you wine.

ആകയാല് നീ ചെന്നു എന്റെ വാമൊഴികേട്ടു എഴുതിയ ചുരുളില്നിന്നു യഹോവയുടെ വചനങ്ങളെ യഹോവയുടെ ആലയത്തില് ഉപവാസദിവസത്തില് തന്നേ ജനം കേള്ക്കെ വായിക്ക; അതതു പട്ടണങ്ങളില്നിന്നു വരുന്ന എല്ലായെഹൂദയും കേള്ക്കെ നീ അതു വായിക്കേണം.

But they said, We will drink no wine; for Jonadab the son of Rechab, our father, commanded us, saying, You shall drink no wine, neither you , nor your sons, forever:
7
പക്ഷെ അവര് യഹോവയുടെ മുമ്പില് വീണു അപേക്ഷിച്ചുകൊണ്ടു ഔരോരുത്തന് താന്താന്റെ ദുര്മ്മാര്ഗ്ഗം വിട്ടുതിരിയും; യഹോവ ഈ ജനത്തിന്നു വിധിച്ചിരിക്കുന്ന കോപവും ക്രോധവും വലിയതല്ലോ.

neither shall you build house, nor sow seed, nor plant vineyard, nor have any; but all your days you shall dwell in tents; that you may live many days in the land in which you sojourn.

യിരെമ്യാപ്രവാചകന് തന്നോടു കല്പിച്ചതുപോലെയൊക്കെയും നേര്യ്യാവിന്റെ മകനായ ബാരൂക് ചെയ്തു, യഹോവയുടെ ആലയത്തില് ആ പുസ്തകത്തില്നിന്നു യഹോവയുടെ വചനങ്ങളെ വായിച്ചു കേള്പ്പിച്ചു.

We have obeyed the voice of Jonadab the son of Rechab, our father, in all that he charged us, to drink no wine all our days, we, our wives, our sons, or our daughters;
9
യോശീയാവിന്റെ മകനായി യെഹൂദാരാജാവായ യെഹോയാക്കീമിന്റെ അഞ്ചാം ആണ്ടില്, ഒമ്പതാം മാസത്തില്, അവര് യെരൂശലേമിലെ സകല ജനത്തിന്നും യെഹൂദാപട്ടണങ്ങളില്നിന്നു യെരൂശലേമില് വന്ന സകലജനത്തിന്നും യഹോവയുടെ മുമ്പാകെ ഒരു ഉപവാസം പ്രസിദ്ധമാക്കി,

nor to build houses for us to dwell in; neither have we vineyard, nor field, nor seed:

അപ്പോള് ബാരൂക് യഹോവയുടെ ആലയത്തില്, യഹോവയുടെ ആലയത്തിന്റെ പുതിയവാതിലിന്റെ പ്രവേശനത്തിങ്കല്, മേലത്തെ മുറ്റത്തു, ശാഫാന്റെ മകനായ ഗെമര്യ്യാരായസക്കാരന്റെ മുറിയില്വെച്ചു ആ പുസ്തകത്തില്നിന്നു യിരെമ്യാവിന്റെ വചനങ്ങളെ സകലജനത്തെയും വായിച്ചു കേള്പ്പിച്ചു.

but we have lived in tents, and have obeyed, and done according to all that Jonadab our father commanded us.

ശാഫാന്റെ മകനായ ഗെമര്യ്യാവിന്റെ മകന് മീഖായാവു യഹോവയുടെ വചനങ്ങളൊക്കെയും പുസ്തകത്തില്നിന്നു വായിച്ചു കേട്ടപ്പോള്

But it happened, when Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon came up into the land, that we said, Come, and let us go to Jerusalem for fear of the army of the Chaldeans, and for fear of the army of the Syrians; so we dwell at Jerusalem.
12
അവന് രാജഗൃഹത്തില് രായസക്കാരന്റെ മുറിയില് ചെന്നു; അവിടെ സകലപ്രഭുക്കന്മാരും ഇരുന്നിരുന്നു; രായസക്കാരന് എലീശാമായും ശെമയ്യാവിന്റെ മകന് ദെലായാവും അഖ്ബോരിന്റെ മകന് എല്നാഥാനും ശാഫാന്റെ മകന് ഗെമര്യ്യാവും ഹനന്യാവിന്റെ മകന് സിദെക്കീയാവും ശേഷം പ്രഭുക്കന്മാരും തന്നേ.

Then came the word of Yahweh to Jeremiah, saying,

ബാരൂക് ജനത്തെ പുസ്തകം വായിച്ചു കേള്പ്പിച്ചപ്പോള്, താന് കേട്ടിരുന്ന വചനങ്ങളൊക്കെയും മീഖായാവു അവരോടു പ്രസ്താവിച്ചു.

Thus says Yahweh of Hosts, the God of Israel: Go, and tell the men of Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem, Will you not receive instruction to listen to my words? says Yahweh.

അപ്പോള് സകലപ്രഭുക്കന്മാരും കൂശിയുടെ മകനായ ശെലെമ്യാവിന്റെ മകനായ നഥന്യാവിന്റെ മകന് യെഹൂദിയെ ബാരൂക്കിന്റെ അടുക്കല് അയച്ചുനീ ജനത്തെ വായിച്ചുകേള്പ്പിച്ച പുസ്തകച്ചുരുള് എടുത്തുകൊണ്ടു വരിക എന്നു പറയിച്ചു; അങ്ങനെ നേര്യ്യാവിന്റെ മകന് ബാരൂക് പുസ്തകച്ചുരുള് എടുത്തുകൊണ്ടു അവരുടെ അടുക്കല് വന്നു.

The words of Jonadab the son of Rechab, that he commanded his sons, not to drink wine, are performed; and to this day they drink none, for they obey their father's commandment: but I have spoken to you, rising up early and speaking; and you have not listened to me.
15
അവര് അവനോടുഇവിടെ ഇരുന്നു അതു വായിച്ചുകേള്പ്പിക്ക എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു; ബാരൂക് വായിച്ചുകേള്പ്പിച്ചു.

I have sent also to you all my servants the prophets, rising up early and sending them, saying, Return you now every man from his evil way, and amend your doings, and don't go after other gods to serve them, and you shall dwell in the land which I have given to you and to your fathers: but you have not inclined your ear, nor listened to me.
16
ആ വചനങ്ങളൊക്കെയും കേട്ടപ്പോള് അവര് ഭയപ്പെട്ടു തമ്മില് തമ്മില് നോക്കി, ബാരൂക്കിനോടുഈ വചനങ്ങളൊക്കെയും ഞങ്ങള് രാജാവിനെ അറിയിക്കും എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

Because the sons of Jonadab the son of Rechab have performed the commandment of their father which he commanded them, but this people has not listened to me;
17
നീ ഈ വചനങ്ങളൊക്കെയും എങ്ങനെയാകുന്നു എഴുതിയതു? അവന് പറഞ്ഞുതന്നിട്ടോ? ഞങ്ങളോടു പറക എന്നു അവര് ബാരൂക്കിനോടു ചോദിച്ചു.

therefore thus says Yahweh, the God of hosts, the God of Israel: Behold, I will bring on Judah and on all the inhabitants of Jerusalem all the evil that I have pronounced against them; because I have spoken to them, but they have not heard; and I have called to them, but they have not answered.
18
ബാരൂക് അവരോടുഅവന് ഈ വചനങ്ങളൊക്കെയും പറഞ്ഞുതന്നു, ഞാന് മഷികൊണ്ടു പുസ്തകത്തില് എഴുതി എന്നുത്തരം പറഞ്ഞു.

Jeremiah said to the house of the Rechabites, Thus says Yahweh of Hosts, the God of Israel: Because you have obeyed the commandment of Jonadab your father, and kept all his precepts, and done according to all that he commanded you;
19
അപ്പോള് പ്രഭുക്കന്മാര് ബാരൂക്കിനോടുപോയി നീയും യിരെമ്യാവും കൂടെ ഒളിച്ചുകൊള്വിന് ; നിങ്ങള് ഇന്നേടത്തു ഇരിക്കുന്നു എന്നു ആരും അറിയരുതു എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

therefore thus says Yahweh of Hosts, the God of Israel: Jonadab the son of Rechab shall not want a man to stand before me forever.
20
അനന്തരം അവര് പുസ്തകച്ചുരുള് രായസക്കാരനായ എലീശാമയുടെ മുറിയില് വെച്ചേച്ചു, അരമനയില് രാജാവിന്റെ അടുക്കല് ചെന്നു ആ വചനങ്ങളൊക്കെയും രാജാവിനെ ബോധിപ്പിച്ചു.

രാജാവു ചുരുള് എടുത്തുകൊണ്ടു വരുവാന് യെഹൂദിയെ അയച്ചു; അവന് രായസക്കാരനായ എലീശാമയുടെ മുറിയില്നിന്നു അതു എടുത്തു കൊണ്ടുവന്നു; യെഹൂദി അതു രാജാവിനെയും രാജാവിന്റെ ചുറ്റും നിലക്കുന്ന സകലപ്രഭുക്കന്മാരെയും വായിച്ചു കേള്പ്പിച്ചു.

അന്നു ഒമ്പതാം മാസത്തില് രാജാവു ഹേമന്തഗൃഹത്തില് ഇരിക്കയായിരുന്നു; അവന്റെ മുമ്പാകെ നെരിപ്പോട്ടില് തീ കത്തിക്കൊണ്ടിരുന്നു.

യെഹൂദി മൂന്നു നാലു ഭാഗം വായിച്ചശേഷം രാജാവു എഴുത്തുകാരന്റെ ഒരു കത്തികൊണ്ടു അതു കണ്ടിച്ചു ചുരുള് മുഴുവനും നെരിപ്പോട്ടിലെ തീയില് വെന്തുപോകുംവരെ നെരിപ്പോട്ടില് ഇട്ടുകൊണ്ടിരുന്നു.

രാജാവാകട്ടെ ആ വചനങ്ങളൊക്കെയും കേട്ട ഭൃത്യന്മാരില് ആരെങ്കിലുമാകട്ടെ ഭയപ്പെടുകയോ വസ്ത്രം കീറുകയോ ചെയ്തില്ല.

ചുരുള് ചുട്ടുകളയരുതേ എന്നു എല്നാഥാനും ദെലായാവും ശെമര്യ്യാവും രാജാവിനോടു അപേക്ഷിച്ചു എങ്കിലും അവന് അവരുടെ അപേക്ഷ കേട്ടില്ല.

അനന്തരം ബാരൂക് എന്ന എഴുത്തുകാരനെയും യിരെമ്യാപ്രവാചകനെയും പിടിപ്പാന് രാജാവു രാജകുമാരനായ യെരഹ്മെയേലിനോടും അസ്രീയേലിന്റെ മകനായ സെരായാവോടും അബ്ദേലിന്റെ മകനായ ശെലെമ്യാവോടും കല്പിച്ചു; എന്നാല് യഹോവ അവരെ ഒളിപ്പിച്ചു;

ചുരുളും ബാരൂക് യിരെമ്യാവിന്റെ വാമൊഴിപ്രകാരം എഴുതിയിരുന്ന വചനങ്ങളും രാജാവു ചുട്ടുകളഞ്ഞശേഷം, യഹോവയുടെ അരുളപ്പാടു യിരെമ്യാവിന്നുണ്ടായതെന്തെന്നാല്

നീ മറ്റൊരു ചുരുള് മേടിച്ചു യെഹൂദാരാജാവായ യെഹോയാക്കീം ചുട്ടുകളഞ്ഞ മുമ്പിലത്തെ ചുരുളില് ഉണ്ടായിരുന്ന വചനങ്ങളൊക്കെയും അതില് എഴുതുക.

എന്നാല് യെഹൂദാരാജാവായ യെഹോയാക്കീമിനോടു നീ പറയേണ്ടതുയഹോവ ഇപ്രകാരം അരുളിച്ചെയ്യുന്നുബാബേല്രാജാവു വന്നു ഈ ദേശത്തെ നശിപ്പിച്ചു, മനുഷ്യനെയും മൃഗത്തെയും മുടിച്ചുകളയും എന്നു നീ അതില് എഴുതിയതു എന്തിനു എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു നീ ആ ചുരുള് ചുട്ടുകളഞ്ഞുവല്ലോ.

അതുകൊണ്ടു യെഹൂദാരാജാവായ യെഹോയാക്കീമിനെക്കുറിച്ചു യഹോവ ഇപ്രകാരം അരുളിച്ചെയ്യുന്നുഅവന്നു ദാവീദിന്റെ സിംഹാസനത്തില് ഇരിപ്പാന് ഒരുത്തനും ഉണ്ടാകയില്ല; അവന്റെ ശവം പകല് വെയിലും രാത്രിയില് മഞ്ഞു ഏല്പാന് എറിഞ്ഞുകളയും.

ഞാന് അവനെയും അവന്റെ സന്തതിയെയും ഭൃത്യന്മാരെയും അവരുടെ അകൃത്യംനിമിത്തം സന്ദര്ശിക്കും; അവര്ക്കും യെരൂശലേംനിവാസികള്ക്കും യെഹൂദാപുരുഷന്മാര്ക്കും വരുത്തുമെന്നു ഞാന് വിധിച്ചതും അവര് ശ്രദ്ധിക്കാത്തതുമായ അനര്ത്ഥമൊക്കെയും ഞാന് അവര്ക്കും വരുത്തും.

അങ്ങനെ യിരെമ്യാവു മറ്റൊരു ചുരുള് എടുത്തു നേര്യ്യാവിന്റെ മകന് ബാരൂക് എന്ന എഴുത്തുകാരന്റെ കയ്യില് കൊടുത്തു; അവന് യെഹൂദാരാജാവായ യെഹോയാക്കീം തീയില് ഇട്ടു ചുട്ടുകളഞ്ഞ പുസ്തകത്തിലെ വചനങ്ങളൊക്കെയും യിരെമ്യാവിന്റെ വാമൊഴിപ്രകാരം അതില് എഴുതി; അതുപോലെയുള്ള ഏറിയ വചനങ്ങളും ചേര്ത്തെഴുതുവാന് സംഗതിവന്നു.
