ಯಾಕೋಬನು ತನ್ನ ಮಾರ್ಗವಾಗಿ ಹೋಗುತ್ತಿದ್ದಾಗ ದೇವದೂತರು ಅವನೆ ದುರಿಗೆ ಬಂದರು.

Jacob went on his way, and the angels of God met him.

ಯಾಕೋಬನು ಅವರನ್ನು ನೋಡಿದಾಗ--ಇದು ದೇವರ ಸೈನ್ಯ ಎಂದು ಹೇಳಿ ಆ ಸ್ಥಳಕ್ಕೆ ಮಹನಯಿಮ್ ಎಂದು ಹೆಸರಿಟ್ಟನು.

When he saw them, Jacob said, "This is God's host." He called the name of that place Mahanaim.

ಯಾಕೋಬನು ಎದೋಮ್ಯರ ದೇಶವಾದ ಸೇಯಾರಿನ ಸೀಮೆಯಲ್ಲಿರುವ ತನ್ನ ಸಹೋದರನಾದ ಏಸಾವನ ಬಳಿಗೆ ದೂತರನ್ನು ತನ್ನ ಮುಂದಾಗಿ ಕಳುಹಿಸಿದನು.

Jacob sent messengers in front of him to Esau, his brother, to the land of Seir, the field of Edom.
4
ಕಳುಹಿಸುವಾಗ ಅವರಿಗೆ--ನನ್ನ ಯಜಮಾನನಾದ ಏಸಾವನಿಗೆ ನೀವು ಹೀಗೆ ಹೇಳ ಬೇಕು--ನಿನ್ನ ದಾಸನಾದ ಯಾಕೋಬನು ಹೀಗೆ ಹೇಳುತ್ತಾನೆ--ಲಾಬಾನನ ಸಂಗಡ ನಾನು ಈಗಿನ ವರಗೆ ಪ್ರವಾಸಿಯಾಗಿದ್ದೆನು;

He commanded them, saying, "This is what you shall tell my lord, Esau: 'This is what your servant, Jacob, says. I have lived as a foreigner with Laban, and stayed until now.
5
ನನಗೆ ಎತ್ತು ಕತ್ತೆ ಕುರಿಗಳು ದಾಸದಾಸಿಯರು ಇದ್ದಾರೆ; ನಾವು ನಿನ್ನ ದೃಷ್ಟಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಕೃಪೆಹೊಂದುವ ಹಾಗೆ ನನ್ನ ಯಜಮಾನ ನಿಗೆ ತಿಳಿಸುವದಕ್ಕೆ ಕಳುಹಿಸಿದ್ದೇನೆ ಎಂದು ಹೇಳಿರಿ ಅಂದನು.

I have oxen, donkeys, flocks, men-servants, and maid-servants. I have sent to tell my lord, that I may find favor in your sight.'"

ಆಗ ದೂತರು ಯಾಕೋಬನ ಬಳಿಗೆ ಹಿಂತಿರುಗಿ ಬಂದು--ನಾವು ನಿನ್ನ ಸಹೋದರನಾದ ಏಸಾವನ ಬಳಿಗೆ ಹೋಗಿ ಬಂದಿದ್ದೇವೆ; ಅವನು ನಾನೂರು ಮಂದಿಯನ್ನು ಕರಕೊಂಡು ನಿನ್ನನ್ನು ಎದುರುಗೊಳ್ಳುವದಕ್ಕೆ ಬರುತ್ತಾನೆ ಅಂದರು.

The messengers returned to Jacob, saying, "We came to your brother Esau. Not only that, but he comes to meet you, and four hundred men with him."

ಆಗ ಯಾಕೋಬನು ಬಹಳವಾಗಿ ಭಯಪಟ್ಟು ಕುಂದಿ ಹೋಗಿ ತನ್ನ ಸಂಗಡ ಇದ್ದ ಜನರನ್ನೂ ಕುರಿಗಳನ್ನೂ ದನಗಳನ್ನೂ ಒಂಟೆಗಳನ್ನೂ ಎರಡು ಗುಂಪುಗಳಾಗಿ ವಿಭಾಗಿಸಿದನು.

Then Jacob was greatly afraid and was distressed: and he divided the people who were with him, and the flocks, and the herds, and the camels, into two companies;
8
ಏಸಾವನು ಒಂದು ಗುಂಪಿನ ಮೇಲೆ ಬಿದ್ದು ಅದನ್ನು ಹೊಡೆದರೆ ಉಳಿದ ಗುಂಪು ತಪ್ಪಿಸಿಕೊಂಡು ಹೋದೀತೆಂದು ಅಂದು ಕೊಂಡನು.

and he said, "If Esau comes to the one company, and strikes it, then the company which is left will escape."

ಇದಲ್ಲದೆ ಯಾಕೋಬನು ಹೇಳಿದ್ದೇ ನಂದರೆ--ನನ್ನ ತಂದೆಯಾದ ಅಬ್ರಹಾಮನ ದೇವರೇ, ನನ್ನ ತಂದೆಯಾದ ಇಸಾಕನ ದೇವರೇ, ನಿನ್ನ ದೇಶಕ್ಕೂ ನಿನ್ನ ಬಂಧುಗಳ ಬಳಿಗೂ ತಿರಿಗಿ ಹೋಗು, ಆಗ ನಿನಗೆ ಒಳ್ಳೇದನ್ನು ಮಾಡುವೆನು ಎಂದು ನನಗೆ ಹೇಳಿದ ಕರ್ತನೇ,

Jacob said, "God of my father Abraham, and God of my father Isaac, Yahweh, who said to me, 'Return to your country, and to your relatives, and I will do you good.'
10
ನೀನು ನಿನ್ನ ದಾಸನಿಗೆ ತೋರಿಸಿದ ಎಲ್ಲಾ ಕರುಣೆಗಳಿಗೂ ಎಲ್ಲಾ ಸತ್ಯಕ್ಕೂ ಅಯೋಗ್ಯನಾಗಿದ್ದೇನೆ. ಯಾಕಂದರೆ ನಾನು ಮೊದಲು ಈ ಯೊರ್ದನ್ ಹೊಳೆಯನ್ನು ದಾಟಿದಾಗ ನನಗೆ ಕೋಲು ಮಾತ್ರವೇ ಇತ್ತು; ಈಗ ಎರಡು ಗುಂಪುಗಳುಳ್ಳವನಾದೆನು.

I am not worthy of the least of all the loving kindnesses, and of all the truth, which you have shown to your servant; for with just my staff I passed over this Jordan; and now I have become two companies.
11
ಈಗ ನನ್ನ ಸಹೋದರನಾದ ಏಸಾವನ ಕೈಯಿಂದ ನನ್ನನ್ನು ತಪ್ಪಿಸು. ಅವನು ಬಂದು ನನ್ನನ್ನು ಮಕ್ಕಳ ಸಂಗಡ ತಾಯಿಯನ್ನು ಕೊಲ್ಲುವನೇನೋ ಎಂದು ನಾನು ಅವನಿಗೆ ಭಯಪಡುತ್ತೇನೆ.

Please deliver me from the hand of my brother, from the hand of Esau: for I fear him, lest he come and strike me, and the mothers with the children.
12
ನಾನು --ನಿನಗೆ ಖಂಡಿತ ವಾಗಿ ಒಳ್ಳೆಯದನ್ನು ಮಾಡುವೆನು, ನಿನ್ನ ಸಂತತಿಯನ್ನು ಎಣಿಸುವದಕ್ಕಾಗದ ಸಮುದ್ರದ ಮರಳಿನ ಹಾಗೆ ಮಾಡುವೆನು ಎಂದು ಹೇಳಿದಿಯಲ್ಲಾ ಎಂದು ಬೇಡಿಕೊಂಡನು.

You said, 'I will surely do you good, and make your seed as the sand of the sea, which can't be numbered because there are so many.'"

ಯಾಕೋಬನು ಅದೇ ರಾತ್ರಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಅಲ್ಲಿ ಇಳುಕೊಂಡನು; ತಾನು ತಕ್ಕೊಂಡು ಬಂದವುಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ತನ್ನ ಸಹೋದರನಾದ ಏಸಾವನಿಗೆ ಕಾಣಿಕೆಗಾಗಿ ತೆಗೆದುಕೊಂಡನು.

He lodged there that night, and took from that which he had with him, a present for Esau, his brother:
14
ಅವು ಯಾವವಂದರೆ, ಇನ್ನೂರು ಮೇಕೆಗಳು, ಇಪ್ಪತ್ತು ಹೋತಗಳು, ಇನ್ನೂರು ಕುರಿಗಳು, ಇಪ್ಪತ್ತು ಟಗರುಗಳು;

two hundred female goats and twenty male goats, two hundred ewes and twenty rams,
15
ಹಾಲು ಕೊಡುವ ಮೂವತ್ತು ಒಂಟೆಗಳು ಅವುಗಳ ಮರಿಗಳು, ನಾಲ್ವತ್ತು ಆಕಳುಗಳು, ಹತ್ತು ಹೋರಿಗಳು, ಇಪ್ಪತ್ತು ಹೆಣ್ಣು ಕತ್ತೆಗಳು, ಹತ್ತು ಕತ್ತೆ ಮರಿಗಳು;

thirty milk camels and their colts, forty cows, ten bulls, twenty she-donkeys and ten foals.
16
ಇವುಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಪ್ರತಿಯೊಂದು ಮಂದೆಯನ್ನು ಪ್ರತ್ಯೇಕವಾಗಿ ಅವನು ತನ್ನ ಸೇವಕರಿಗೆ ಒಪ್ಪಿಸಿ ಅವರಿಗೆ--ನನ್ನ ಮುಂದೆ ನಡೆದು ಮಂದೆ ಮಂದೆಗೂ ಮಧ್ಯದಲ್ಲಿ ಸ್ಥಳಬಿಡಿರಿ ಅಂದನು.

He delivered them into the hands of his servants, every herd by itself, and said to his servants, "Pass over before me, and put a space between herd and herd."
17
ಅವನು ಮೊದಲನೆಯವನಿಗೆ--ನನ್ನ ಸಹೋದರನಾದ ಏಸಾವನು ನಿನ್ನೆದುರಿಗೆ ಬಂದು-- ನೀನು ಯಾರವನು? ಎಲ್ಲಿಗೆ ಹೋಗುತ್ತೀ? ಇಲ್ಲಿ ನಿನ್ನ ಮುಂದೆ ಇರುವವುಗಳು ಯಾರವು ಎಂದು ಕೇಳಿದರೆ

He commanded the foremost, saying, "When Esau, my brother, meets you, and asks you, saying, 'Whose are you? Where are you going? Whose are these before you?'
18
ನೀನು ಅವನಿಗೆ--ಅವು ನಿನ್ನ ದಾಸನಾದ ಯಾಕೋಬನವುಗಳೇ; ಇದು ನನ್ನ ಯಜಮಾನನಾದ ಏಸಾವನಿಗೆ ಕಳುಹಿಸಲ್ಪಟ್ಟ ಕಾಣಿಕೆ; ಇಗೋ, ಅವನೂ ನಮ್ಮ ಹಿಂದೆ ಇದ್ದಾನೆ ಎಂದು ಅವನಿಗೆ ಹೇಳಬೇಕೆಂದು ಆಜ್ಞಾಪಿಸಿದನು.

Then you shall say, 'They are your servant, Jacob's. It is a present sent to my lord, Esau. Behold, he also is behind us.'"
19
ಎರಡನೆಯ ವನಿಗೂ ಮೂರನೆಯವನಿಗೂ ಮಂದೆಗಳ ಹಿಂದೆ ಹೋಗುವವರೆಲ್ಲರಿಗೂನೀವು ಏಸಾವನನ್ನು ಕಂಡರೆ ಅವನಿಗೆ ಹಾಗೆಯೇ ಹೇಳಬೇಕು.

He commanded also the second, and the third, and all that followed the herds, saying, "This is how you shall speak to Esau, when you find him.
20
ಇದಲ್ಲದೆ--ನಿನ್ನ ದಾಸನಾದ ಯಾಕೋಬನು ನಮ್ಮ ಹಿಂದೆ ಬರುತ್ತಾನೆಂದು ಹೇಳಬೇಕು ಎಂದು ಆಜ್ಞಾಪಿಸಿದನು. ಯಾಕಂದರೆ ನನ್ನ ಮುಂದೆ ಹೋಗುವ ಕಾಣಿಕೆಯಿಂದ ಅವನನ್ನು ಸಮಾಧಾನಪಡಿಸುವೆನು. ತರುವಾಯ ಅವನ ಮುಖವನ್ನು ನೋಡುವೆನು; ಅವನು ನನ್ನನ್ನು ಅಂಗೀಕರಿಸುವನೇನೋ ಎಂದು ಅಂದು ಕೊಂಡನು.

You shall say, 'Not only that, but behold, your servant, Jacob, is behind us.'" For, he said, "I will appease him with the present that goes before me, and afterward I will see his face. Perhaps he will accept me."
21
ಹೀಗೆ ಆ ಕಾಣಿಕೆಯು ಅವನ ಮುಂದಾಗಿ ಹೊರಟುಹೋಯಿತು. ತಾನಾದರೋ ಆ ರಾತ್ರಿ ಗುಂಪಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಇಳುಕೊಂಡನು.

So the present passed over before him: and he himself lodged that night in the camp.
22
ಅವನು ಆ ರಾತ್ರಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಎದ್ದು ತನ್ನ ಇಬ್ಬರು ಹೆಂಡತಿಯರನ್ನೂ ಇಬ್ಬರು ದಾಸಿಯರನ್ನೂ ತನ್ನ ಹನ್ನೊಂದು ಮಂದಿ ಕುಮಾರರನ್ನೂ ತಕ್ಕೊಂಡು ಯಬ್ಬೋಕ್ ಎಂಬ ಸ್ಥಳದಲ್ಲಿ ದಾಟಿದನು.

He rose up that night, and took his two wives, and his two handmaids, and his eleven sons, and passed over the ford of the Jabbok.

ಅವನು ಅವರನ್ನು ಕರಕೊಂಡು ಹೊಳೆ ದಾಟಿಸಿದ್ದಲ್ಲದೆ ತನಗಿದ್ದದ್ದನ್ನೆಲ್ಲಾ ದಾಟಿಸಿದನು.

He took them, and sent them over the stream, and sent over that which he had.
24
ಆಗ ಯಾಕೋಬನು ಒಬ್ಬನೇ ಉಳಿದಾಗ ಒಬ್ಬ ಮನುಷ್ಯನು ಉದಯ ವಾಗುವ ವರೆಗೆ ಅವನ ಸಂಗಡ ಹೋರಾಡಿದನು.

Jacob was left alone, and wrestled with a man there until the breaking of the day.
25
ಆ ಮನುಷ್ಯನು ಅವನನ್ನು ಜಯಿಸದೆ ಇರುವದನ್ನು ನೋಡಿ ಅವನ ತೊಡೆಯ ಕೀಲನ್ನು ಮುಟ್ಟಿದನು. ಅವನು ಹಾಗೆಯೇ ಆತನ ಸಂಗಡ ಹೋರಾಡುವಲ್ಲಿ ಯಾಕೋಬನ ತೊಡೆಯ ಕೀಲು ತಪ್ಪಿತು.

When he saw that he didn't prevail against him, he touched the hollow of his thigh, and the hollow of Jacob's thigh was strained, as he wrestled.
26
ಆತನು ಯಾಕೋಬನಿಗೆ--ಉದಯವಾಯಿತು, ನನ್ನನು ಬಿಡು ಅಂದಾಗ ಅವನು--ನೀನು ನನ್ನನ್ನು ಆಶೀರ್ವದಿಸದ ಹೊರತು ನಾನು ನಿನ್ನನ್ನು ಬಿಡೆನು ಅಂದನು.

The man said, "Let me go, for the day breaks." Jacob said, "I won't let you go, unless you bless me."
27
ಆತನು ಅವನಿಗೆ--ನಿನ್ನ ಹೆಸರು ಏನು ಅಂದಾಗ ಅವನು--ಯಾಕೋಬ ಅಂದನು.

He said to him, "What is your name?" He said, "Jacob."
28
ಅದಕ್ಕೆ ಆತನುನಿನ್ನ ಹೆಸರು ಇನ್ನು ಮೇಲೆ ಯಾಕೋಬನೆಂದು ಕರೆಯಲ್ಪಡದೆ ಇಸ್ರಾಯೇಲ ಎಂದು ಕರೆಯಲ್ಪಡು ವದು. ಯಾಕಂದರೆ ನೀನು ದೇವರ ಸಂಗಡಲೂ ಮನುಷ್ಯರ ಸಂಗಡಲೂ ಹೋರಾಡಿ ಜಯಿಸಿದ್ದೀ ಅಂದನು.

He said, "Your name will no longer be called 'Jacob,' but, 'Israel,' for you have fought with God and with men, and have prevailed."

ಯಾಕೋಬನು--ನಿನ್ನ ಹೆಸರನ್ನು ನನಗೆ ತಿಳಿಸು ಎಂದು ಆತನನ್ನು ಕೇಳಿಕೊಂಡಾಗ ಆತನು--ನನ್ನ ಹೆಸರನ್ನು ಯಾಕೆ ಕೇಳುತ್ತೀ ಎಂದು ಹೇಳಿ ಅವನನ್ನು ಅಲ್ಲಿ ಆಶೀರ್ವದಿಸಿದನು.

Jacob asked him, "Please tell me your name." He said, "Why is it that you ask what my name is?" He blessed him there.
30
ಆಗ ಯಾಕೋಬನು--ನಾನು ದೇವರನ್ನು ಮುಖಾಮುಖಿ ಯಾಗಿ ನೋಡಿದರೂ ನನ್ನ ಪ್ರಾಣವು ಕಾಪಾಡಲ್ಪಟ್ಟಿತು ಎಂದು ಹೇಳಿ ಆ ಸ್ಥಳಕ್ಕೆ ಪೆನೀಯೇಲ್ ಎಂದು ಹೆಸರಿಟ್ಟನು.

Jacob called the name of the place Peniel: for, he said, "I have seen God face to face, and my life is preserved."

ಅವನು ಪೆನೂವೇಲನ್ನು ದಾಟಿ ಹೋದಾಗ ಅವನಿಗೆ ಸೂರ್ಯೋದಯವಾಯಿತು. ಆದರೆ ಅವನು ತೊಡೆಯ ನಿಮಿತ್ತ ಕುಂಟಿಕೊಂಡು ನಡೆದನು.ಆತನು ಯಾಕೋಬನ ತೊಡೆಯ ಕೀಲನ್ನು ಮುದುರಿದ ನರದಲ್ಲಿ ಮುಟ್ಟಿದ್ದರಿಂದ ಇಸ್ರಾಯೇಲ್ ಮಕ್ಕಳು ತೊಡೆಯ ಕೀಲಿನ ಮೇಲಿರುವ ಮುದುರಿದ ನರವನ್ನು ಈ ದಿನದ ವರೆಗೂ ತಿನ್ನುವದಿಲ್ಲ.

The sun rose on him as he passed over Peniel, and he limped because of his thigh.
32
ಆತನು ಯಾಕೋಬನ ತೊಡೆಯ ಕೀಲನ್ನು ಮುದುರಿದ ನರದಲ್ಲಿ ಮುಟ್ಟಿದ್ದರಿಂದ ಇಸ್ರಾಯೇಲ್ ಮಕ್ಕಳು ತೊಡೆಯ ಕೀಲಿನ ಮೇಲಿರುವ ಮುದುರಿದ ನರವನ್ನು ಈ ದಿನದ ವರೆಗೂ ತಿನ್ನುವದಿಲ್ಲ.

Therefore the children of Israel don't eat the sinew of the hip, which is on the hollow of the thigh, to this day, because he touched the hollow of Jacob's thigh in the sinew of the hip.
