ಸೊಲೊಮೋನನು ಐಗುಪ್ತದ ಅರಸ ನಾದ ಫರೋಹನ ಸಂಗಡ ಬಂಧುತ್ವ ಮಾಡಿ ಫರೋಹನ ಮಗಳನ್ನು ತಕ್ಕೊಂಡನು. ಅವನು ತನ್ನ ಮನೆಯನ್ನೂ ಕರ್ತನ ಆಲಯವನ್ನೂ ಯೆರೂಸ ಲೇಮಿಗೆ ಸುತ್ತಲೂ ಗೋಡೆಯನ್ನೂ ಕಟ್ಟಿ ತೀರಿಸುವ ಮಟ್ಟಿಗೂ ಅವಳನ್ನು ದಾವೀದನ ಪಟ್ಟಣದಲ್ಲಿ ತಂದು ಇಟ್ಟನು.

Solomon made affinity with Pharaoh king of Egypt, and took Pharaoh's daughter, and brought her into the city of David, until he had made an end of building his own house, and the house of Yahweh, and the wall of Jerusalem round about.

ಆದರೆ ಆ ಕಾಲದ ವರೆಗೂ ಕರ್ತನ ಹೆಸರಿಗೆ ಆಲಯ ಕಟ್ಟಲ್ಪಡದೆ ಇದ್ದದರಿಂದ ಜನರು ಎತ್ತರದ ಸ್ಥಳಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಬಲಿ ಅರ್ಪಿಸುತ್ತಿದ್ದರು.

Only the people sacrificed in the high places, because there was no house built for the name of Yahweh until those days.

ಸೊಲೊ ಮೋನನು ಕರ್ತನನ್ನು ಪ್ರೀತಿಮಾಡಿ ತನ್ನ ತಂದೆ ಯಾದ ದಾವೀದನ ಕಟ್ಟಳೆಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ನಡೆಯುತ್ತಾ ಇದ್ದರೂ ತಾನು ಎತ್ತರ ಸ್ಥಳಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಬಲಿಯನ್ನೂ ಧೂಪವನ್ನೂ ಅರ್ಪಿಸುತ್ತಾ ಇದ್ದನು.

Solomon loved Yahweh, walking in the statutes of David his father: only he sacrificed and burnt incense in the high places.

ಗಿಬ್ಯೋನು ದೊಡ್ಡ ಎತ್ತರದ ಸ್ಥಳ; ಆದದರಿಂದ ಅರಸನು ಯಜ್ಞವನ್ನರ್ಪಿಸಲು ಅಲ್ಲಿಗೆ ಹೋಗಿ ಆ ಬಲಿಪೀಠದ ಮೇಲೆ ಸಾವಿರ ದಹನಬಲಿಗಳನ್ನು ಅರ್ಪಿಸಿದನು.

The king went to Gibeon to sacrifice there; for that was the great high place: a thousand burnt offerings did Solomon offer on that altar.

ಅವನು ಗಿಬ್ಯೋನಿನಲ್ಲಿರುವಾಗ ರಾತ್ರಿ ಯಲ್ಲಿ ಸ್ವಪ್ನದೊಳಗೆ ಕರ್ತನು ಸೊಲೊಮೋನನಿಗೆ ಕಾಣಿಸಿಕೊಂಡನು. ದೇವರು ಅವನಿಗೆ--ನಾನು ನಿನಗೆ ಏನು ಕೊಡಬೇಕು ಕೇಳಿಕೋ ಅಂದನು.

In Gibeon Yahweh appeared to Solomon in a dream by night; and God said, Ask what I shall give you.

ಅದಕ್ಕೆ ಸೊಲೊಮೋನನು--ನನ್ನ ತಂದೆಯಾಗಿರುವ ನಿನ್ನ ಸೇವಕನಾದ ದಾವೀದನು ನಿನ್ನ ಮುಂದೆ ಸತ್ಯದಿಂದಲೂ ನೀತಿಯಿಂದಲೂ ಯಥಾರ್ಥವಾದ ಹೃದಯವುಳ್ಳವ ನಾಗಿಯೂ ನಡೆದದ್ದರಿಂದ ನೀನು ಅವನಿಗೆ ಬಹು ದಯೆತೋರಿಸಿ ಈ ಮಹಾಕರುಣೆಯನ್ನು ಅವನಿ ಗೋಸ್ಕರ ಕಾದಿಟ್ಟಿದ್ದೀ. ಈ ಹೊತ್ತಿರುವ ಹಾಗೆಯೇ ತನ್ನ ಸಿಂಹಾಸನದ ಮೇಲೆ ಕುಳಿತುಕೊಳ್ಳಲು ಒಬ್ಬ ಮಗನನ್ನು ಕೊಟ್ಟಿದ್ದೀ.

Solomon said, You have shown to your servant David my father great loving kindness, according as he walked before you in truth, and in righteousness, and in uprightness of heart with you; and you have kept for him this great loving kindness, that you have given him a son to sit on his throne, as it is this day.
7
ನನ್ನ ದೇವರಾದ ಕರ್ತನೇ, ನೀನು ನನ್ನ ತಂದೆಯಾದ ದಾವೀದನಿಗೆ ಬದಲಾಗಿ ನಿನ್ನ ಸೇವಕನನ್ನು ಅರಸನಾಗಮಾಡಿದ್ದೀ. ಆದರೆ ನಾನು ಚಿಕ್ಕ ಬಾಲಕನಾಗಿದ್ದು ಹೊರಗೆ ಹೋಗುವದಕ್ಕೂ ಒಳಗೆ ಬರುವದಕ್ಕೂ ಅರಿಯದೆ ಇದ್ದೇನೆ.

Now, Yahweh my God, you have made your servant king instead of David my father: and I am but a little child; I don't know how to go out or come in.
8
ಇದಲ್ಲದೆ ನಿನ್ನ ಸೇವಕನು ನೀನು ಆದುಕೊಂಡ ನಿನ್ನ ಮಹಾಜನರ ಮಧ್ಯದಲ್ಲಿ ಇದ್ದಾನೆ. ಆ ಜನರು ಬಹಳವಾಗಿರುವ ದರಿಂದ ಅವರನ್ನು ಎಣಿಸಲೂ ಲೆಕ್ಕ ಬರೆಯಲೂ ಆಗದು.

Your servant is in the midst of your people which you have chosen, a great people, that can't be numbered nor counted for multitude.

ಆದದರಿಂದ ನಿನ್ನ ಜನರಿಗೆ ನ್ಯಾಯ ವಿಚಾ ರಿಸಲು ಒಳ್ಳೇದನ್ನೂ ಕೆಟ್ಟದ್ದನ್ನೂ ತಿಳಿಯುವ ಹಾಗೆ ನಿನ್ನ ಸೇವಕನಿಗೆ ಜ್ಞಾನವುಳ್ಳ ಹೃದಯವನ್ನು ಕೊಡ ಬೇಕು. ಈ ನಿನ್ನ ಬಹು ಗುಂಪಾದ ಜನರ ನ್ಯಾಯ ವಿಚಾರಿಸಲು ಸಾಮರ್ಥ್ಯವುಳ್ಳವನು ಯಾವನು ಅಂದನು.

Give your servant therefore an understanding heart to judge your people, that I may discern between good and evil; for who is able to judge this your great people?

ಸೊಲೊಮೋನನು ಕೇಳಿದ ಈ ಮಾತು ಕರ್ತನ ದೃಷ್ಟಿಗೆ ಒಳ್ಳೇದಾಗಿತ್ತು.

The speech pleased the Lord, that Solomon had asked this thing.

ಆದದರಿಂದ ದೇವರು ಅವನಿಗೆ--ನೀನು ನಿನಗೋಸ್ಕರ ಹೆಚ್ಚಾದ ದಿವಸಗಳನ್ನು ಕೇಳದೆ ನಿನಗೋಸ್ಕರ ಐಶ್ವರ್ಯವನ್ನು ಕೇಳದೆ ನಿನ್ನ ಶತ್ರುಗಳ ಪ್ರಾಣವನ್ನು ಕೇಳದೆ ನ್ಯಾಯವನ್ನು ತಿಳಿಯಲು ನಿನಗೋಸ್ಕರ ಜ್ಞಾನವನ್ನು ಕೇಳಿದ್ದ ರಿಂದ

God said to him, Because you have asked this thing, and have not asked for yourself long life, neither have asked riches for yourself, nor have asked the life of your enemies, but have asked for yourself understanding to discern justice;
12
ಇಗೋ, ನಾನು ನಿನ್ನ ಮಾತುಗಳ ಪ್ರಕಾರವೇ ಮಾಡಿದೆನು. ಇಗೋ, ನಿನಗಿಂತ ಮುಂಚೆ ನಿನಗೆ ಸಮಾನವಾದವನು ಇಲ್ಲದ ಹಾಗೆಯೂ ನಿನ್ನ ತರುವಾಯ ನಿನ್ನಂಥವನು ಯಾವನೂ ಏಳದ ಹಾಗೆಯೂ ನಿನಗೆ ಜ್ಞಾನವೂ ಗ್ರಹಿಕೆಯುಳ್ಳ ಹೃದ ಯವನ್ನು ಕೊಟ್ಟಿದ್ದೇನೆ.

behold, I have done according to your word: behold, I have given you a wise and an understanding heart; so that there has been none like you before you, neither after you shall any arise like you.
13
ನೀನು ಕೇಳದ ಐಶ್ವ ರ್ಯವನ್ನೂ ಘನವನ್ನೂ ಕೊಟ್ಟಿದ್ದೇನೆ. ಆದದರಿಂದ ನಿನ್ನ ಸಮಸ್ತ ದಿವಸಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ನಿನ್ನ ಹಾಗೆ ಅರಸು ಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಒಬ್ಬನೂ ಇರುವದಿಲ್ಲ.

I have also given you that which you have not asked, both riches and honor, so that there shall not be any among the kings like you, all your days.
14
ನೀನು ನಿನ್ನ ತಂದೆಯಾದ ದಾವೀದನು ನಡೆದ ಪ್ರಕಾರ ನನ್ನ ಮಾರ್ಗಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ನಡೆದು ಕಟ್ಟಳೆಗಳನ್ನೂ ಆಜ್ಞೆಗಳನ್ನೂ ಕೈಕೊಂಡರೆ ನಿನ್ನ ದಿವಸಗಳನ್ನು ಹೆಚ್ಚಿಸುವೆನು ಅಂದನು.

If you will walk in my ways, to keep my statutes and my commandments, as your father David did walk, then I will lengthen your days.

ಆಗ ಸೊಲೊಮೋನನು ಎಚ್ಚತ್ತಾಗ ಇಗೋ, ಅದು ಸ್ವಪ್ನವಾಗಿತ್ತು, ಅವನು ಯೆರೂ ಸಲೇಮಿಗೆ ಬಂದು ಕರ್ತನ ಒಡಂಬಡಿಕೆಯ ಮಂಜೂಷದ ಮುಂದೆ ನಿಂತು ದಹನಬಲಿಗಳನ್ನೂ ಸಮಾಧಾನದ ಬಲಿಗಳನ್ನೂ ಅರ್ಪಿಸಿ ತನ್ನ ಸೇವಕರಿಗೆ ಔತಣ ಮಾಡಿಸಿದನು.

Solomon awoke; and, behold, it was a dream: and he came to Jerusalem, and stood before the ark of the covenant of Yahweh, and offered up burnt offerings, and offered peace-offerings, and made a feast to all his servants.
16
ತರುವಾಯ ಇಬ್ಬರು ವೇಶ್ಯಾಸ್ತ್ರೀಯರು ಅರಸನ ಬಳಿಗೆ ಬಂದು ಅವನ ಮುಂದೆ ನಿಂತರು.

Then there came two women who were prostitutes, to the king, and stood before him.
17
ಅವರಲ್ಲಿ ಒಬ್ಬಳು--ಓ ನನ್ನ ಒಡೆಯನೇ, ನಾನೂ ಈ ಹೆಂಗಸೂ ಒಂದೇ ಮನೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ವಾಸವಾಗಿದ್ದೇವೆ.

The one woman said, Oh, my lord, I and this woman dwell in one house; and I was delivered of a child with her in the house.
18
ನಾನು ಅವಳ ಸಂಗಡ ಮನೆಯಲ್ಲಿರುವಾಗ ಮಗುವನ್ನು ಹೆತ್ತೆನು. ನಾನು ಹೆತ್ತ ಮೂರು ದಿವಸಗಳ ತರುವಾಯ ಈ ಹೆಂಗಸು ಕೂಡ ಹೆತ್ತಳು. ನಾವು ಇಬ್ಬರೂ ಕೂಡಿಯೇ ಇದ್ದೆವು.

It happened the third day after I was delivered, that this woman was delivered also; and we were together; there was no stranger with us in the house, save we two in the house.
19
ಮನೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ನಮ್ಮ ಇಬ್ಬರ ಹೊರತು ನಮ್ಮ ಸಂಗಡ ಮತ್ತಾರೂ ಇಲ್ಲ. ಆದರೆ ಅವಳು ಅದರ ಮೇಲೆ ಹೊರಳಿದ್ದರಿಂದ ರಾತ್ರಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಈ ಹೆಂಗಸಿನ ಮಗುವು ಸತ್ತು ಹೋಯಿತು.

This woman's child died in the night, because she lay on it.
20
ಇವಳು ಮಧ್ಯರಾತ್ರಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಎದ್ದು ನಿನ್ನ ದಾಸಿಯು ನಿದ್ರೆ ಗೈಯುತ್ತಿರುವಾಗ ನನ್ನ ಹತ್ತಿರ ಮಲಗಿದ್ದ ನನ್ನ ಮಗ ನನ್ನು ತೆಗೆದುಕೊಂಡು ಅದನ್ನು ತನ್ನ ಎದೆಯ ಮೇಲೆ ಮಲಗಿಸಿಕೊಂಡು ತನ್ನ ಸತ್ತ ಮಗುವನ್ನು ನನ್ನ ಎದೆಯ ಮೇಲೆ ಮಲಗಿಸಿದಳು.

She arose at midnight, and took my son from beside me, while your handmaid slept, and laid it in her bosom, and laid her dead child in my bosom.

ಉದಯದಲ್ಲಿ ನನ್ನ ಕೂಸಿಗೆ ಮೊಲೆ ಕೊಡಲು ಎದ್ದಾಗ ಇಗೋ, ಅದು ಸತ್ತಿತ್ತು. ಉದಯದಲ್ಲಿ ಅದನ್ನು ಯೋಚಿಸಿದಾಗ ಇಗೋ, ಅದು ನಾನು ಹೆತ್ತ ಮಗುವಾಗಿದ್ದಿಲ್ಲ ಅಂದಳು.

When I rose in the morning to give my child suck, behold, it was dead; but when I had looked at it in the morning, behold, it was not my son, whom I bore.
22
ಆಗ ಆ ಬೇರೆ ಹೆಂಗಸು--ಇಲ್ಲ, ಬದುಕಿರುವವನು ನನ್ನ ಮಗನು, ಸತ್ತವನು ನಿನ್ನ ಮಗನು ಅಂದಳು. ಆದರೆ ನಾನು--ಹಾಗಲ್ಲ; ಸತ್ತವನು ನಿನ್ನ ಮಗನು, ಬದುಕಿರುವವನು ನನ್ನ ಮಗನು ಅಂದೆನು. ಹೀಗೆ ಅವರು ಅರಸನ ಮುಂದೆ ಮಾತನಾಡಿದರು.

The other woman said, No; but the living is my son, and the dead is your son. This said, No; but the dead is your son, and the living is my son. Thus they spoke before the king.

ಆಗ ಅರಸನುಇವಳು--ಬದುಕಿರುವವನು ನನ್ನ ಮಗನು, ಸತ್ತವನು ನಿನ್ನ ಮಗನು ಅನ್ನುತ್ತಾಳೆ. ಅವಳು--ಹಾಗಲ್ಲ, ಸತ್ತವನು ನಿನ್ನ ಮಗನು, ಬದುಕಿರುವವನು ನನ್ನ ಮಗನು ಅನ್ನುತ್ತಾಳೆ ಎಂದು ಹೇಳಿ

Then said the king, The one says, This is my son who lives, and your son is the dead: and the other says, No; but your son is the dead, and my son is the living.
24
ಅರಸನು--ಕತ್ತಿಯನ್ನು ನನ್ನ ಬಳಿಗೆ ತಕ್ಕೊಂಡು ಬಾ ಅಂದನು. ಅವರು ಕತ್ತಿಯನ್ನು ಅರಸನ ಬಳಿಗೆ ತಂದರು.

The king said, Get me a sword. They brought a sword before the king.
25
ಆಗ ಅರಸನುಬದುಕಿರುವ ಕೂಸನ್ನು ಎರಡು ತುಂಡಾಗಿ ಕಡಿದು ಇವಳಿಗೆ ಅರ್ಧಪಾಲನ್ನು ಅವಳಿಗೆ ಅರ್ಧ ಪಾಲನ್ನು ಕೊಡಿರಿ ಅಂದನು.

The king said, Divide the living child in two, and give half to the one, and half to the other.
26
ಆಗ ಬದುಕಿರುವ ಕೂಸಿನ ತಾಯಿಯಾದವಳ ಕರುಳುಗಳು ತನ್ನ ಮಗನಿಗಾಗಿ ಮರುಗಿದ್ದರಿಂದ ಅವಳು ಅರಸನಿಗೆ--ಓ ನನ್ನ ಒಡೆ ಯನೇ, ಬದುಕಿರುವ ಕೂಸನ್ನು ಇವಳಿಗೆ ಕೊಡು; ಕೊಲ್ಲಲ್ಲೇ ಬೇಡ ಅಂದಳು. ಆದರೆ ಮತ್ತೊಬ್ಬಳು--ಅದು ನನ್ನದಾಗಲಿ ನಿನ್ನದಾಗಲಿ ಆಗಿರಬಾರದು; ಕಡಿ ಯಿರಿ ಅಂದಳು.

Then spoke the woman whose the living child was to the king, for her heart yearned over her son, and she said, Oh, my lord, give her the living child, and in no way kill it. But the other said, It shall be neither mine nor yours; divide it.

ಆಗ ಅರಸನು ಪ್ರತ್ಯುತ್ತರವಾಗಿಬದುಕಿರುವ ಕೂಸನ್ನು ಇವಳಿಗೆ ಕೊಡಿರಿ; ಕೊಲ್ಲ ಬೇಡಿರಿ; ಇವಳೇ ಅದರ ತಾಯಿ ಅಂದನು.ಅರಸನು ತೀರಿಸಿದ ನ್ಯಾಯವನ್ನು ಕುರಿತು ಸಮಸ್ತ ಇಸ್ರಾಯೇ ಲ್ಯರು ಕೇಳಿ ಅರಸನಿಗೆ ಭಯಪಟ್ಟರು; ಯಾಕಂದರೆ ನ್ಯಾಯತೀರಿಸಲು ಅವನಲ್ಲಿ ದೇವರ ಜ್ಞಾನವಿದೆ ಎಂದು ನೋಡಿದರು.

Then the king answered, Give her the living child, and in no way kill it: she is the mother of it.
28
ಅರಸನು ತೀರಿಸಿದ ನ್ಯಾಯವನ್ನು ಕುರಿತು ಸಮಸ್ತ ಇಸ್ರಾಯೇ ಲ್ಯರು ಕೇಳಿ ಅರಸನಿಗೆ ಭಯಪಟ್ಟರು; ಯಾಕಂದರೆ ನ್ಯಾಯತೀರಿಸಲು ಅವನಲ್ಲಿ ದೇವರ ಜ್ಞಾನವಿದೆ ಎಂದು ನೋಡಿದರು.

All Israel heard of the judgment which the king had judged; and they feared the king: for they saw that the wisdom of God was in him, to do justice.
