1अब विश्वास आशा की हुई वस्तुओं का निश्चय, और मन देखी वस्तुओं का प्रमाण है।
1Now faith is assurance of things hoped for, proof of things not seen.
2क्योंकि इसी के विषय में प्राचीनों की अच्छी गवाही दी गईं।
2For by this, the elders obtained testimony.
3विश्वास ही से हम जान जाते हैं, कि सारी सृष्टि की रचना परमेश्वर के वचन के द्वारा हुई है। यह नहीं, कि जो कुछ देखने में आता है, वह देखी हुई वस्तुओं से बना हो।
3By faith, we understand that the universe has been framed by the word of God, so that what is seen has not been made out of things which are visible.
4विश्वास की से हाबिल ने कैन से उत्तम बलिदान परमेश्वर के लिये चढ़ाया; और उसी के द्वारा उसके धर्मी होने की गवाही भी दी गई: क्योंकि परमेश्वर ने उस की भेंटों के विषय में गवाही दी; और उसी के द्वारा वह मरने पर भी अब तक बातें करता है।
4By faith, Abel offered to God a more excellent sacrifice than Cain, through which he had testimony given to him that he was righteous, God bearing witness with respect to his gifts; and through it he, being dead, still speaks.
5विश्वास ही से हनोक उठा लिया गया, कि मृत्यु को न देखे, और उसका पता नहीं मिला; क्योंकि परमेश्वर ने उसे उठा लिया था, और उसके उठाए जाने से पहिले उस की यह गवाही दी गई थी, कि उस ने परमेश्वर को प्रसन्न किया है।
5By faith, Enoch was taken away, so that he wouldn't see death, and he was not found, because God translated him. For he has had testimony given to him that before his translation he had been well pleasing to God.
6और विश्वास बिना उसे प्रसन्न करना अनहोना है, क्योंकि परमेश्वर के पास आनेवाले को विश्वास करना चाहिए, कि वह है; और अपने खोजनेवालों को प्रतिफल देता है।
6Without faith it is impossible to be well pleasing to him, for he who comes to God must believe that he exists, and that he is a rewarder of those who seek him.
7विश्वास ही से नूह ने उन बातों के विषय में जो उस समय दिखाई न पड़ती थीं, चितौनी पाकर भक्ति के साथ अपने घराने के बचाव के लिये जहाज बनाया, और उसके द्वारा उस ने संसार को दोषी ठहराया; और उस धर्म का वारिस हुआ, जो विश्वास से होता है।
7By faith, Noah, being warned about things not yet seen, moved with godly fear, prepared an ark for the saving of his house, through which he condemned the world, and became heir of the righteousness which is according to faith.
8विश्वास ही से इब्राहीम जब बुलाया गया तो आज्ञा मानकर ऐसी जगह निकल गया जिसे मीरास में लेनेवाला था, और यह न जानता था, कि मैं किधर जाता हूं; तौभी निकल गया।
8By faith, Abraham, when he was called, obeyed to go out to the place which he was to receive for an inheritance. He went out, not knowing where he went.
9विश्वास ही से उस ने प्रतिज्ञा किए हुए देश में जैसे पराए देश में परदेशी रहकर इसहाक और याकूब समेत जो उसके साथ उसी प्रतिज्ञा के वारिस थे, तम्बूओं में वास किया।
9By faith, he lived as an alien in the land of promise, as in a land not his own, dwelling in tents, with Isaac and Jacob, the heirs with him of the same promise.
10क्योंकि वह उस स्थिर नेववाले नगर की बाट जोहता था, जिस का रचनेवाला और बनानेवाला परमेश्वर है।
10For he looked for the city which has the foundations, whose builder and maker is God.
11विश्वास से सारा ने आप बूढ़ी होने पर भी गर्भ धारण करने की सामर्थ पाई; क्योंकि उस ने प्रतिज्ञा करनेवाले को सच्चा जाना था।
11By faith, even Sarah herself received power to conceive, and she bore a child when she was past age, since she counted him faithful who had promised.
12इस कारण एक ही जन से जो मरा हुआ सा था, आकाश के तारों और समुद्र के तीर के बालू की नाईं, अनगिनित वंश उत्पन्न हुआ।।
12Therefore as many as the stars of the sky in multitude, and as innumerable as the sand which is by the sea shore, were fathered by one man, and him as good as dead.
13ये सब विश्वास ही की दशा में मरे; और उन्हों ने प्रतिज्ञा की हुई वस्तुएं नहीं पाई; पर उन्हें दूर से देखकर आनन्दित हुए और मान लिया, कि हम पृथ्वी पर परदेशी और बाहरी हैं।
13These all died in faith, not having received the promises, but having seen them and embraced them from afar, and having confessed that they were strangers and pilgrims on the earth.
14जो ऐसी ऐसी बातें कहते हैं, वे प्रगट करते हैं, कि स्वदेश की खोज में हैं।
14For those who say such things make it clear that they are seeking after a country of their own.
15और जिस देश से वे निकल आए थे, यदि उस की सुधि करते तो उन्हें लौट जाने का अवसर था।
15If indeed they had been thinking of that country from which they went out, they would have had enough time to return.
16पर वे एक उत्तम अर्थात् स्वर्गीय देश के अभिलाषी हैं, इसी लिये परमेश्वर उन का परमेश्वर कहलाने में उन से नहीं लजाता, सो उस ने उन के लिये एक नगर तैयार किया है।।
16But now they desire a better country, that is, a heavenly one. Therefore God is not ashamed of them, to be called their God, for he has prepared a city for them.
17विश्वास ही से इब्राहीम ने, परखे जाने के समय में, इसहाक को बलिदान चढ़ाया, और जिस ने प्रतिज्ञाओं को सच माना था।
17By faith, Abraham, being tested, offered up Isaac. Yes, he who had gladly received the promises was offering up his one and only son;
18और जिस से यह कहा गया था, कि इसहाक से तेरा वंश कहलाएगा; वह अपने एकलौते को चढ़ाने लगा।
18even he to whom it was said, "In Isaac will your seed be called;"
19क्योंकि उस ने विचार किया, कि परमेश्वर सामर्थी है, कि मरे हुओं में से जिलाए, सो उन्हीं में से दृष्टान्त की रीति पर वह उसे फिर मिला।
19accounting that God is able to raise up even from the dead. Figuratively speaking, he also did receive him back from the dead.
20विश्वास ही से इसहाक ने याकूब और एसाव को आनेवाली बातों के विषय मे आशीष दी।
20By faith, Isaac blessed Jacob and Esau, even concerning things to come.
21विश्वास ही से याकूब ने मरते समय यूसुफ के दोनों पुत्रों में से एक एक को आशीष दी, और अपनी लाठी के सिरे पर सहारा लेकर दण्डवत किया।
21By faith, Jacob, when he was dying, blessed each of the sons of Joseph, and worshiped, leaning on the top of his staff.
22विश्वास ही से यूसुफ ने, जब वह मरने पर था, तो इस्त्राएल की सन्तान के निकल जाने की चर्चा की, और अपनी हडि्डयों के विषय में आज्ञा दी।
22By faith, Joseph, when his end was near, made mention of the departure of the children of Israel; and gave instructions concerning his bones.
23विश्वास ही से मूसा के माता पिता ने उस को, उत्पन्न होने के बाद तीन महीने तक छिपा रखा; क्योंकि उन्हों ने देखा, कि बालक सुन्दर है, और वे राजा की आज्ञा से न डरे।
23By faith, Moses, when he was born, was hidden for three months by his parents, because they saw that he was a beautiful child, and they were not afraid of the king's commandment.
24विश्वास ही से मूसा ने सयाना होकर फिरौन की बेटी का पुत्रा कहलाने से इन्कार किया।
24By faith, Moses, when he had grown up, refused to be called the son of Pharaoh's daughter,
25इसलिये कि उसे पाप में थोड़े दिन के सुख भोगने से परमेश्वर के लोगों के साथ दुख भोगना और उत्तम लगा।
25choosing rather to share ill treatment with God's people, than to enjoy the pleasures of sin for a time;
26और मसीह के कारण निन्दित होने को मिसर के भण्डार से बड़ा धन समझा: क्योंकि उस की आंखे फल पाने की ओर लगी थीं।
26accounting the reproach of Christ greater riches than the treasures of Egypt; for he looked to the reward.
27विश्वास ही से राजा के क्रोध से न डरकर उस ने मिसर को छोड़ दिया, क्योंकि वह अनदेखे को मानों देखता हुआ दृढ़ रहा।
27By faith, he left Egypt, not fearing the wrath of the king; for he endured, as seeing him who is invisible.
28विश्वास ही से उस ने फसह और लोहू छिड़कने की विधि मानी, कि पहिलौठों का नाश करनेवाला इस्त्राएलियों पर हाथ न डाले।
28By faith, he kept the Passover, and the sprinkling of the blood, that the destroyer of the firstborn should not touch them.
29विश्वास ही से वे लाल समुद्र के पार ऐसे उतर गए, जैसे सूखी भूमि पर से; और जब मिस्त्रियों ने वैसा ही करना चाहा, तो सब डूब मरे।
29By faith, they passed through the Red sea as on dry land. When the Egyptians tried to do so, they were swallowed up.
30विश्वास ही से यरीहो की शहरपनाह, जब सात दिन तक उसका चक्कर लगा चुके तो वह गिर पड़ी।
30By faith, the walls of Jericho fell down, after they had been encircled for seven days.
31विश्वास ही से राहाब वेश्या आज्ञा ने माननेवालों के साथ नाश नहीं हुई; इसलिये कि उस ने भेदियों को कुशल से रखा था।
31By faith, Rahab the prostitute, didn't perish with those who were disobedient, having received the spies in peace.
32अब और क्या कहूँ? क्योंकि समय नहीं रहा, कि गिदोन का, और बाराक और समसून का, और यिफतह का, और दाऊद का और शामुएल का, और भविष्यद्वक्ताओं का वर्णन करूं।
32What more shall I say? For the time would fail me if I told of Gideon, Barak, Samson, Jephthah, David, Samuel, and the prophets;
33इन्हों ने विश्वास ही के द्वारा राज्य जीते; धर्म के काम किए; प्रतिज्ञा की हुई वस्तुएं प्राप्त की, सिंहों के मुंह बन्द किए।
33who, through faith subdued kingdoms, worked out righteousness, obtained promises, stopped the mouths of lions,
34आग ही ज्वाला को ठंडा किया; तलवार की धार से बच निकले, निर्बलता में बलवन्त हुए; लड़ाई में वीर निकले; विदेशियों की फोजों को मार भगाया।
34quenched the power of fire, escaped the edge of the sword, from weakness were made strong, grew mighty in war, and turned to flight armies of aliens.
35स्त्रियों ने अपने मरे हुओं को फिर जीवते पाया; कितने तो मार खाते खाते मर गए; और छुटकारा न चाहा; इसलिये कि उत्तम पुनरूत्थान के भागी हों।
35Women received their dead by resurrection. Others were tortured, not accepting their deliverance, that they might obtain a better resurrection.
36कई एक ठट्ठों में उड़ाए जाने; और कोड़े खाने; वरन बान्धे जाने; और कैद में पड़ने के द्वारा परखे गए।
36Others were tried by mocking and scourging, yes, moreover by bonds and imprisonment.
37पत्थरवाह किए गए; आरे से चीरे गए; उन की परीक्षा की गई; तलवार से मारे गए; वे कंगाली में और क्लेश में और दुख भोगते हुए भेड़ों और बकरियों की खालें ओढ़े हुए, इधर उधर मारे मारे फिरे।
37They were stoned. They were sawn apart. They were tempted. They were slain with the sword. They went around in sheep skins and in goat skins; being destitute, afflicted, ill-treated
38और जंगलों, और पहाड़ों, और गुफाओं में, और पृथ्वी की दरारों में भटकते फिरे।
38(of whom the world was not worthy), wandering in deserts, mountains, caves, and the holes of the earth.
39संसार उन के योगय न था: और विश्वास ही के द्वारा इन सब के विषय में अच्छी गवाही दी गई, तोभी उन्हें प्रतिज्ञा की हुई वस्तु न मिली।
39These all, having had testimony given to them through their faith, didn't receive the promise,
40क्योंकि परमेश्वर ने हमारे लिये पहिले से एक उत्तम बात ठहराई, कि वे हमारे बिना सिद्धता को न पहुंचे।।
40God having provided some better thing concerning us, so that apart from us they should not be made perfect.
