1આ, માસાહના યાકેહના પુત્ર આગૂરનાઁ વચનો છે. માનવીનો બોધ: ઇથીએલ અને ઉક્કાલને.
1The words of Agur the son of Jakeh, the oracle: The man says to Ithiel, To Ithiel and Ucal:
2નિશ્ચિતરીતે હું માણસોની વચ્ચે મહામૂર્ખ છું. હું માનવ જેવો નથી. મારામાં માણસ જેવી બુદ્ધિ નથી.
2"Surely I am the most ignorant man, And don't have a man's understanding.
3હું જ્ઞાન શીખ્યો નથી કે નથી મને પવિત્ર ઇશ્વરનું જ્ઞાન નથી.
3I have not learned wisdom, Neither do I have the knowledge of the Holy One.
4આકાશમાં કોણ ચડ્યો છે, અને પાછો નીચે ઊતર્યો છે? કોણે હવાને મૂઠ્ઠીમાં બાંધી રાખી છે? કોણે પાણીને પોતાના ઝભ્ભામાં બાંધ્યું છે? પૃથ્વીની સીમાઓ બધી કોણે સ્થાપી છે? જો તું જાણતો હોય, તો તેનું નામ શું છે? અને તેના પુત્રનું નામ શું છે?
4Who has ascended up into heaven, and descended? Who has gathered the wind in his fists? Who has bound the waters in his garment? Who has established all the ends of the earth? What is his name, and what is his son's name, if you know?
5દેવનું પ્રત્યેક વચન પરખેલું છે; જેઓ તેમનામાં આશ્રય શોધે છે તેમના માટે તે ઢાલ છે.
5"Every word of God is flawless. He is a shield to those who take refuge in him.
6તેનાઁ વચનોમાં તું કશો ઉમેરો કરીશ નહિ, નહિ તો તે તને ઠપકો આપશે ને તું જૂઠા તરીકે પૂરવાર થઇશ.”
6Don't you add to his words, Lest he reprove you, and you be found a liar.
7હે યહોવા, મેં તમારી પાસે બે વરદાન માગ્યાઁ છે; મારા મૃત્યુ પહેલાં મને તેની ના પાડીશ નહિ.
7"Two things I have asked of you; Don't deny me before I die:
8અસત્ય અને વ્યર્થતાને મારાથી દૂર રાખજે, મને દરિદ્રતા કે દ્રવ્ય પણ ન આપ; મને જરૂર જેટલો રોટલો આપજે.
8Remove far from me falsehood and lies. Give me neither poverty nor riches. Feed me with the food that is needful for me;
9નહિ તો કદાચ હું વધારે સંતુષ્ટ થાવ અને તને નકારુ અને કહું કે, યહોવા કોણ છે? અથવા હું કદાચ ગરીબ થઇને ચોરી કરુ અને પછી મારા દેવના નામને ષ્ટ કરું.
9Lest I be full, deny you, and say, 'Who is Yahweh?' Or lest I be poor, and steal, And so dishonor the name of my God.
10નોકરની ખરાબ વાતો જે ખોટી છે તે તેના માલિક આગળ ન કર. રખેને તે તને શાપ દે, ને તેણે જે કર્યું હતું તેને માટે તું દોષપાત્ર ઠરે.
10"Don't slander a servant to his master, Lest he curse you, and you be held guilty.
11એવી પણ એક પેઢી છે કે જે પોતાના પિતાને શાપ આપે છે અને પોતાની માને આશીર્વાદ દેતી નથી.
11There is a generation that curses their father, And doesn't bless their mother.
12એવી પણ એક પેઢી છે જે પોતાને પવિત્ર માને છે, પણ તે પોતાની મલિનતામાંથી સ્વચ્છ થતી નથી.
12There is a generation that is pure in their own eyes, Yet are not washed from their filthiness.
13એવી પણ એક પેઢી છે કે જેમના ઘમંડનો પાર નથી અને જેઓ સૌને તુચ્છકારની નજરે જુએ છે.
13There is a generation, oh how lofty are their eyes! Their eyelids are lifted up.
14એવી પણ એક પેઢી છે કે જેમનાં દાંત તરવાર જેવા અને તેમના જડબા છરી જેવા હોય છે; તેઓ પૃથ્વી પરથી કંગાલોને અને લોકોમાંથી જરૂરિયાત મંદોને ભરખી જાય છે.
14There is a generation whose teeth are like swords, And their jaws like knives, To devour the poor from the earth, and the needy from among men.
15જળોને બે દીકરીઓ છે. તેઓ “આપો! આપો!” એમ ચીસો પાડે છે. જે કયારેય તૃપ્ત ન થાય, તેવી ત્રણ વસ્તુઓ છે. પરંતુ ચાર, એવા છે કે જે કદી’બસ’ કહેતા નથી:
15"The leach has two daughters: 'Give, give.' "There are three things that are never satisfied; Four that don't say, 'Enough:'
16એટલે શેઓલ; વાંઝણીનું ઉદર, તરસી જમીન અને અગ્નિ, જે કદી ‘બસ’ કહેતા નથી.
16Sheol, The barren womb; The earth that is not satisfied with water; And the fire that doesn't say, 'Enough.'
17જે આંખ તેના પિતાની મશ્કરી કરે છે, અને તેની માતાની આજ્ઞા માનવાની ના પાડે છે.તેની આંખને ખીણના કાગડા ફોડી નાંખો અને ગીઘડા ખાઇ જાઓ.
17The eye that mocks at his father, And scorns obedience to his mother: The ravens of the valley shall pick it out, The young eagles shall eat it.
18ત્રણ વસ્તુઓ એવી છે, જે મારા માટે આશ્ચર્યજનક છે, પરંતુ ચાર, એવી છે જે મને સમજાતી નથી;
18"There are three things which are too amazing for me, Four which I don't understand:
19આકાશમાં ઊડતા ગરૂડની ચાલ, ખડક ઉપર ચાલતા સાપની ચાલ, મધદરિયે તરતા વહાણની ચાલ, અને યુવાન સ્ત્રી સાથેના પુરુષના વ્યવહાર.
19The way of an eagle in the air; The way of a serpent on a rock; The way of a ship in the midst of the sea; And the way of a man with a maiden.
20વ્યભિચારી સ્ત્રીની રીત આવી હોય છે: તેણી ખાય છે અને મોં લૂછી નાખે છે અને કહે છે કે,” મેં કશું ખોટું કર્યુ નથી.”
20So is the way of an adulterous woman: She eats and wipes her mouth, And says, 'I have done nothing wrong.'
21ત્રણ વસ્તુઓથી ધરતી ધ્રુજે છે, પરંતુ ચાર,જે એનાથી સહન થતી નથી;
21"For three things the earth tremble, And under four, it can't bear up:
22રાજગાદીએ બેઠેલો ગુલામ, અને ખોરાકની વિપુલતા માણતો મૂરખ,
22For a servant when he is king; A fool when he is filled with food;
23પરણવા પામેલી પ્રેમથી વંચિત રહેલી સ્ત્રી, અને પોતાની શેઠાણીની જગાએ આવેલી દાસી.
23For an unloved woman when she is married; And a handmaid who is heir to her mistress.
24પૃથ્વી પર ચાર વસ્તુ એવી છે, જે નાની છે, પણ અત્યંત હોશિયાર છે:
24"There are four things which are little on the earth, But they are exceedingly wise:
25કીડી કંઇ બળવાન પ્રજા નથી, પણ તેઓ ઉનાળામાં પોતાનો ખોરાક ભેગો કરે છે.
25The ants are not a strong people, Yet they provide their food in the summer;
26ખડકમાં રહેતા સસલાં પણ નિર્બળ પ્રજા છે, તો પણ તેઓ સર્વ પોતાનાં રહેઠાણ ખડકોમાં બનાવે છે.
26The conies are but a feeble folk, Yet make they their houses in the rocks;
27તીડોનો કોઇ રાજા હોતો નથી. છતાં તેઓ બધાં ટોળાબંધ નીકળે છે.
27The locusts have no king, Yet they advance in ranks;
28ઘરોળીને તમે તમારાં હાથમાં પકડી શકો, છતાં તે રાજાઓના મહેલમાં પણ હોય છે.
28You can catch a lizard with your hands, Yet it is in kings' palaces.
29ત્રણ પ્રાણીઓના પગલાં દમામદાર હોય છે, હા, ચારની ચાલ દમામદાર હોય છે.
29"There are three things which are stately in their march, Four which are stately in going:
30એટલે સિંહ જે પશુઓમાં સૌથી બળવાન છે, અને કોઇને લીધે પીછે હઠ કરતો નથી.
30The lion, which is mightiest among animals, And doesn't turn away for any;
31વળી શિકારી કૂતરો; તથા બકરો; તેમજ પોતાની પ્રજાને દોરતો રાજા કે જેની સામે થઇ શકાય નહિ.
31The greyhound, The male goat also; And the king against whom there is no rising up.
32જો તેઁ ગર્વ કરવાની બેવકૂફી કરી હોય અને કોઇ ભૂંડો વિચાર તેઁ કર્યો હોય, તો તારો હાથ તારો મોં પર મૂક.
32"If you have done foolishly in lifting up yourself, Or if you have thought evil, Put your hand over your mouth.
33કારણ કે દૂધ વલોવ્યાથી માખણનીકળે, અને નાક રગડવાથી લોહી નીકળે, તેમ ક્રોધને છંછેડવાથી ઝગડો ઊભો થાય છે.
33For as the churning of milk brings forth butter, And the wringing of the nose brings forth blood; So the forcing of wrath brings forth strife."
