1ઈસુ તેના બાર શિષ્યોને સૂચનાઓ આપ્યા પછી ત્યાંથી નીકળ્યો અને ત્યાંથી ગાલીલ નામના નગરમાં ઉપદેશ અને બોધ આપવા ગયો.
1It happened that when Jesus had finished directing his twelve disciples, he departed from there to teach and preach in their cities.
2યોહાન બાપ્તિસ્ત જેલમાં હતો. ઈસુ જે કંઈ કરતો હતો તે વિષે તેણે સાંભળ્યું એટલે યોહાને તેના શિષ્યોમાંના કેટલાએકને ઈસુ પાસે મોકલ્યાં.
2Now when John heard in the prison the works of Christ, he sent two of his disciples
3યોહાનના શિષ્યોએ આવીને ઈસુને પૂછયુ કે, “યોહાને જે માણસ વિષે કહ્યું તે આવી રહ્યો છે તે તું છે કે અમારે બીજા માણસની રાહ જોવાની છે?”
3and said to him, "Are you he who comes, or should we look for another?"
4ઈસુએ તેમને કહ્યું કે, “તમે યોહન પાસે પાછા જાવ અને અહીં જે કાંઈ જોયું અને સાંભળ્યું, તે વિષે યોહાનને જાણ કરો.
4Jesus answered them, "Go and tell John the things which you hear and see:
5આંધળા ફરી દેખતાં થયા છે; પાંગળા ચાલતા થયા છે; રક્તપિત્તિયા સાજા થઈ ગયા છે; બહેરા સાંભળતા થયા છે; અને મરણ પામેલા જીવનમાં ફરી બેઠા થયા છે. આ સુવાર્તા ગરીબ લોકોને જણાવવામાં આવી છે.
5the blind receive their sight, the lame walk, the lepers are cleansed, the deaf hear, the dead are raised up, and the poor have good news preached to them.
6જે વ્યક્તિ મારો સ્વીકાર કરવા શક્તિમાન છે તેને ધન્ય છે.”
6Blessed is he who finds no occasion for stumbling in me."
7યોહાનના શિષ્યો પાછા ફરવા તૈયાર થયા, ઈસુએ લોકોને શું જોવા ઈચ્છો છો તે પૂછયું અને કહ્યું, “તમે ઉજજડ પ્રદેશમાં યોહાન પાસે ગયા ત્યારે શું જોવા ગયા હતા? શું પવનથી હાલતા બરુંને જોવા ગયા હતા? ના!
7As these went their way, Jesus began to say to the multitudes concerning John, "What did you go out into the wilderness to see? A reed shaken by the wind?
8તો તમે ત્યાં શું જોવા ગયા હતાં? શું જેણે ખૂબ સારા વસ્ત્રો પહેર્યા હતા તેવા માનવીને? ના! આવા સુંદર કપડા પહેરે છે તે તો રાજાના રાજમહેલમાં રહે છે.
8But what did you go out to see? A man in soft clothing? Behold, those who wear soft clothing are in king's houses.
9તો પછી તમે શું જોવા ગયા હતાં? શું દેવના પ્રબોધકને જોવા ગયા હતાં? હા, હું તમને કહું છું, યોહાન તો પ્રબોધક કરતાં ઘણો અધિક છે.
9But why did you go out? To see a prophet? Yes, I tell you, and much more than a prophet.
10યોહાન વિષે લખ્યું છે તે આ છે:“ધ્યાનથી સાંભળો! હું મારા દૂતને તારી આગળ મોકલું છું. તે તમારા માટે માર્ગ તૈયાર કરશે.’ માલાખી 3:1
10For this is he, of whom it is written, 'Behold, I send my messenger before your face, who will prepare your way before you.'
11હું તમને સત્ય કહું છું કે આજદિન સુધીમાં પૃથ્વી પર જન્મયા છે તેમાં યોહાન જેવો કોઈ ઉત્પન્ન થયો નથી, પણ આકાશના રાજ્યમાં સૌથી નાનો છે તે યોહાન કરતાં પણ મોટો છે.
11Most assuredly I tell you, among those who are born of women there has not arisen anyone greater than John the Baptizer; yet he who is least in the Kingdom of Heaven is greater than he.
12યોહાન બાપ્તિસ્તના સમયથી આજદિન સુધી આકાશનું રાજ્ય આઘાત ઝીલતું રહ્યું છે, અને હિંસક સાધનોથી તેને છીનવી લેવાના પ્રયત્નો થયા છે.
12From the days of John the Baptizer until now, the Kingdom of Heaven suffers violence, and the violent take it by force.
13બધાજ પ્રબોધકોએ અને નિયમશાસ્ત્રે યોહાન આવ્યો ત્યાં સુધી જે કાંઈ બનવાનું છે તે સંદેશ આપ્યો છે.
13For all the prophets and the law prophesied until John.
14અને જો તમે નિયમશાસ્ત્ર અને પ્રબોધકોએ જે કહ્યું છે તે સ્વીકારતા હો તો પછી તમારે તેનો સ્વીકાર કરવો હોય તો તે અગાઉ જણાવ્યા પ્રમાણે આવનાર એલિયા તે એ જ છે.
14If you are willing to receive it, this is Elijah, who is to come.
15તમે લોકો મને સાંભળી શકો છો, તો ધ્યાનથી સાંભળો!
15He who has ears to hear, let him hear.
16“આજની પેઢીના વિષે શું કહું? તેઓ કોના જેવા છે? તેઓ તો બજારમાં બેઠેલા બાળકોના જેવા છે કે જે એકબીજાને હાંક પાડે છે, હા, તેઓ તેવા જ છે.
16"But to what shall I compare this generation? It is like children sitting in the marketplaces, who call to their companions
17‘અમે તમારા માટે સંગીત વગાડ્યું, પરંતુ તમે નૃત્ય કયું નહિ; અમે તમારા માટે દર્દ ભર્યા ગીતો ગાયાં પરંતુ તમે રડ્યા નહિ.’
17and say, 'We played the flute for you, and you didn't dance. We mourned for you, and you didn't lament.'
18યોહાન બાપ્તિસ્ત બીજાની જેમ ખાતો પીતો નથી આવ્યો તેથી લોકો કહે છે કે, ‘તેની અંદર ભૂત છે.’
18For John came neither eating nor drinking, and they say, 'He has a demon.'
19માણસનો દીકરો જે આવ્યો છે તે બીજાઓની જેમ ખાય છે. પીએ છે, ‘એના તરફ તો જુઓ! તે કેટલું બધું ખાય છે અને કેટલું બધું પીવે છે, ઉપરાંત કર ઉઘરાવનાર અને પાપીઓનો મિત્ર છે.’ પરંતુ તેનું શાણપણ પોતાના કાર્યોના પરિણામથી ન્યાયી પુરવાર થાય છે.”
19The Son of Man came eating and drinking, and they say, 'Behold, a gluttonous man and a drunkard, a friend of tax collectors and sinners!' But wisdom is justified by her children."
20ઈસુએ જ્યાં જ્યાં તેનાં મોટા ભાગનાં પરાક્રમી કાર્યો કર્યા હતાં, તે નગરોની ટીકા કરી કારણ કે લોકો પોતાના જીવનમાં પરિવર્તન લાવ્યા નહિ. અને પાપકર્મો કરવાનું છોડ્યું નહિ.
20Then he began to denounce the cities in which most of his mighty works had been done, because they didn't repent.
21ઈસુએ કહ્યું, “ઓ ખોરાઝીનતને હાય! હાય! ઓ બેથસૈદા તને હાય! હાય! જો આ પરાક્રમો મેં દુષ્ટ એવા તૂર અને સિદોનના નગરોમાં કર્યા હોત તો ત્યાંના લોકોએ પસ્તાવો કર્યો હોત અને તેમના પર ટાટ તથા રાખનાખીને બતાવ્યું હોત કે તેઓ તેમના પાપોને માટે દુ:ખી હતાં.
21"Woe to you, Chorazin! Woe to you, Bethsaida! For if the mighty works had been done in Tyre and Sidon which were done in you, they would have repented long ago in sackcloth and ashes.
22પણ હું તમને કહું છું કે ન્યાયના દિવસે તૂર અને સિદોનને આકાશ જેટલી ઊંચી પદવીએ પહોંચાડાશે.
22But I tell you, it will be more tolerable for Tyre and Sidon on the day of judgment than for you.
23“ઓ કફર-નહૂમ, શું તું એમ માને છે કે તને ઉચ્ચ પદ માટે આકાશમાં લઈ જવામાં આવશે?ના! તને તો હાદેસના ખાડામા નાખવામા આવશે તારામાં જે ચમત્કારો થયા તે જો સદોમમાં થયા હોત તો તે નગર આજ સુધી ટકી રહ્યું હોત.
23You, Capernaum, who are exalted to Heaven, you will go down to Hades. For if the mighty works had been done in Sodom which were done in you, it would have remained until this day.
24હું કહું કે, “ન્યાયના દિવસે સદોમની હાલત તારાં કરતા સારી હશે.”
24But I tell you that it will be more tolerable for the land of Sodom, on the day of judgment, than for you."
25પછી ઈસુએ કહ્યું, “ઓ બાપ, આકાશ તથા પૃથ્વીના પ્રભુ, હું તારી સ્તુતિ કરું છું. તારો આભારી છું કારણ તેં જ્ઞાનીઓથી આ સત્યોને ગુપ્ત રાખીને જે લોકો નાના બાળકો જેવા છે તેમની આગળ પ્રગટ કર્યુ છે.
25At that time, Jesus answered, "I thank you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that you hid these things from the wise and understanding, and revealed them to infants.
26હા, ઓ બાપ, આ તેં એટલા માટે કર્યુ કે તારે એ પ્રમાણે કરવું હતું.
26Yes, Father, for so it was well-pleasing in your sight.
27મારા બાપે મને બધું જ આપ્યું છે. બાપ સિવાય દીકરાને કોઈ ઓળખતું નથી અને બાપને દીકરા સિવાય કોઈ ઓળખી શકતું નથી. અને એવા લોકો જે બાપને ઓળખે છે તે એવા લોકો છે જેને દીકરો તેની પાસે બાપને પ્રગટ કરવા પસંદ કરે છે, તેઓ જ બાપને ઓળખે છે.
27All things have been delivered to me by my Father. No one knows the Son, except the Father; neither does anyone know the Father, except the Son, and he to whom the Son desires to reveal him.
28“તમારામાંના જે થાકી ગયા છે અને ભારે બોજ વહન કરી રહ્યા છે તેઓ મારી પાસે આવો. અને હું તમને વિસામો આપીશ.
28"Come to me, all you who labor and are heavily burdened, and I will give you rest.
29તમે મારો બોજ ઉઠાવો અને મારી પાસેથી શીખો. કારણ હું દીન અને નમ્ર છું તેથી તમારા જીવમાં વિસામો પામશો.
29Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart; and you will find rest for your souls.
30મારું જે કાર્ય તમને સ્વીકારવા કહું છું તે સહેલું છે અને તમારા પર જે બોજ મૂકુ છું તે ઊંચકવામાં હલકો છે.”
30For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light."
