1તે દિવસોમાં ઈસ્રાએલમાં કોઈ રાજા ન હતો અને દાનકુળસમૂહના લોકો સ્થાયી થવા માંટે સ્થળ શોધી રહ્યાં હતાં. કારણ કે તેઓને પ્રદેશનો એક ભાગ ઈસ્રાએલના બીજા કુળસમૂહોની સાથે આપવામાં આવ્યો નહતો.
1In those days there was no king in Israel: and in those days the tribe of the Danites sought them an inheritance to dwell in; for to that day their inheritance had not fallen to them among the tribes of Israel.
2તેથી દાનના કુળસમૂહે પાંચ શૂરવીર પુરુષોને સોરાહ અને એશ્તાઓલ નગરોમાંથી પસંદ કર્યા, તેઓએ સ્થાયી થવા માંટે અને તેઓના કુળના ઉછેર માંટે યોગ્ય સ્થળ શોધવું હતું. તેથી તેઓએ “જાઓ અને દેશની શોધ કરો” કહીને પ્રદેશની શોધ કરવા આ શૂરવીરોને મોકલ્યા.એફ્રાઈમના પર્વત ઉપર પહોંચ્યા અને મીખાહના ઘરે રાત રોકાયા,
2The children of Dan sent of their family five men from their whole number, men of valor, from Zorah, and from Eshtaol, to spy out the land, and to search it; and they said to them, Go, search the land. They came to the hill-country of Ephraim, to the house of Micah, and lodged there.
3તેઓ જ્યારે ત્યાં હતાં, તેઓએ લેવીનો અવાજ ઓળખી લીધો અને તેના તરફ વળીને તેને પૂછયું, “તને અહી કોણ લઈ આવ્યું? અહીં તું શું કરે છે? તું અહી શા માંટે છે?”
3When they were by the house of Micah, they knew the voice of the young man the Levite; and they turned aside there, and said to him, Who brought you here? and what do you in this place? and what have you here?
4તેણે મીખાહે તેના માંટે જે કંઈ કર્યુ હતું તે તેઓને કહી દીધું અને કહ્યું કે, “તેણે મને કામ રાખ્યો છે અને હું તેનો યાજક છું.”
4He said to them, Thus and thus has Micah dealt with me, and he has hired me, and I am become his priest.
5પેલા લોકોએ કહ્યું, “સારું, તો અમાંરા તરફથી દેવને પ્રશ્ન કર કે અમાંરો આ પ્રવાસ સફળ થશે કે કેમ?”
5They said to him, Ask counsel, we pray you, of God, that we may know whether our way which we go shall be prosperous.
6યાજકે કહ્યું, “શાંતિથી જાઓ. તમાંરા પ્રવાસ ઉપર યહોવાની દયા દૃષ્ટિ છે.”
6The priest said to them, Go in peace: before Yahweh is your way wherein you go.
7તેથી તે પાંચ જણ ત્યાંથી નીકળીને ‘લાઈશ’ પહોચ્યા. ત્યાં તેમણે જોયું તો લોકો સિદોનના લોકોના શાસન હેઠળ નિશ્ચિંત જીવન ગાળતા હતાં. તે લોકોને શાંતિ હતી અને કોઈ ચિંતા નહોતી તેઓ એકબીજા સાથે ઝગડો કરતા ન હતાં, અત્યાચાર કરનાર કોઈ ન હતાં. તેઓ સિદોનીના લોકોથી ખૂબ દૂર રહેતા હતાં અને તેઓએ કોઈની પણ સાથે કોઈ કરાર કર્યા ન હતાં.
7Then the five men departed, and came to Laish, and saw the people who were therein, how they lived in security, after the manner of the Sidonians, quiet and secure; for there was none in the land, possessing authority, that might put them to shame in anything, and they were far from the Sidonians, and had no dealings with any man.
8તેઓ સોરાહ અને એશ્તાઓલમાં પોતાના ભાઈઓ પાસે પાછા ફર્યા અને ત્યાં તેમને પૂછવામાં આવ્યું, “શું સમાંચાર છે?”
8They came to their brothers to Zorah and Eshtaol: and their brothers said to them, What say you ?
9તેમણે કહ્યું, “ચાલો, આપણે જઈએ અને લાઈશ ઉપર હુમલો કરીએ. અમે એ ભૂમિ જોઈ છે અને તે બહુ સારી છે. આપણે અહીં સુસ્ત બેસી રહેવું ન જોઈએ, જલદી કરો, ઉભા થાવ અને તે દેશનો કબજો લઈ લો.
9They said, Arise, and let us go up against them; for we have seen the land, and, behold, it is very good: and are you still? don't be slothful to go and to enter in to possess the land.
10તમે ત્યાં જશો ત્યારે જોશો કે ત્યાંના લોકો નિશ્ચિંત છે. તે દેશ વિશાળ છે, દેવે તમાંરા હાથમાં એવો દેશ સોંપી દીધો છે જયાં કોઈ વાતની ખોટ નથી.”
10When you go, you shall come to a people secure, and the land is large; for God has given it into your hand, a place where there is no want of anything that is in the earth.
11આથી દાનકુળસમૂહના 600 સશસ્ત્ર સૈનિકો સોરાહ અને એશ્તાઓલથી નીકળી પડયા.
11There set forth from there of the family of the Danites, out of Zorah and out of Eshtaol, six hundred men girt with weapons of war.
12તેમણે જઈને યહૂદાના પ્રદેશમાં કિર્યાથ-યઆરીમમાં છાવણી નાખી, તેથી એ જગ્યા આજે પણ દાનની છાવણીને નામે ઓળખાય છે. એ કિર્યાથ-યઆરીમની પશ્ચિમેં આવેલી છે.
12They went up, and encamped in Kiriath Jearim, in Judah: therefore they called that place Mahaneh-dan, to this day; behold, it is behind Kiriath Jearim.
13ત્યાંથી તેઓ એફ્રાઈમના પહાડી પ્રદેશમાં મીખાહને ઘેર ગયા.
13They passed there to the hill-country of Ephraim, and came to the house of Micah.
14આ પાંચ જણ જેઓ ‘લાઈશ’ ની આજુબાજુના પ્રદેશમાં લોકો વિશે જાણવા ગયા હતાં તેમણે પોતાના ભાઈઓને કહ્યું, “ત્યાં બધામાંથી એક ઘરમાં ચાંદીની એક મૂર્તિ તથા એક એફ્રોદ અને થોડા ઘરબારના દેવો છે! તમે શું વિચારો છો? આપણે શું કરવું જોઈએ?”
14Then the five men who went to spy out the country of Laish answered, and said to their brothers, Do you know that there is in these houses an ephod, and teraphim, and an engraved image, and a molten image? now therefore consider what you have to do.
15આથી તેઓ એ તરફ વળીને લેવી રહેતો હતો ત્યાં મીખાહને ઘેર ગયો અને તેને અભિનંદન આપ્યા.
15They turned aside there, and came to the house of the young man the Levite, even to the house of Micah, and asked him of his welfare.
16યુદ્ધ માંટે તૈયાર એવા દાન કુળસમૂહના સશસ્ત્ર 300 સૈનિકો દરવાજા બહાર ઊભા હતાં.
16The six hundred men girt with their weapons of war, who were of the children of Dan, stood by the entrance of the gate.
17અને જે પાંચ જણ માંહિતી મેળવવા આવ્યા હતાં, તેઓએ અંદર જઈને લાકડાની કોતરકામ કરેલી અને ચાંદીથી મઢેલી મૂર્તિ, એફ્રોદ તથા કુળદેવતાઓને લઈ લીધા. દરમ્યાન યાજક 600 સશસ્ત્ર સૈનિકો સાથે દરવાજા આગળ ઊભો હતો.
17The five men who went to spy out the land went up, and came in there, and took the engraved image, and the ephod, and the teraphim, and the molten image: and the priest stood by the entrance of the gate with the six hundred men girt with weapons of war.
18જ્યારે યુવાન યાજકે પેલા પાંચ જણને મીખાહના ઘરમાં પેસીને લાકડાની કોતરેલી અને ચાંદીથી ઢાળેલી મૂર્તિ એફ્રોદ તથા બીજી મૂર્તિઓ લઈ બહાર જતા જોયા ત્યારે યાજકે તેમને પૂછયું, “શું કરો છો?”
18When these went into Micah's house, and fetched the engraved image, the ephod, and the teraphim, and the molten image, the priest said to them, What do you ?
19ત્યારે તેઓએ કહ્યું, “ચૂપ રહો! એક શબ્દ પણ બોલશો નહિ, અમાંરી સાથે ચાલો અને અમાંરા કુળના યાજક અને અગ્રણીનું સ્થાન અમાંરે માંટે લો. ફક્ત એક જણના યાજક થવું તે સારું કે પછી સમગ્ર ઈસ્રાએલી કુળસમૂહના યાજક થવું તે સારું?”
19They said to him, Hold your peace, lay your hand on your mouth, and go with us, and be to us a father and a priest: is it better for you to be priest to the house of one man, or to be priest to a tribe and a family in Israel?
20આ સાંભળીને તે યાજક તેઓની સાથે જવા માંટે રાજી થઈ ગયો, તેણે એફોદ, ઘરના દેવો તથા બીજી મૂર્તિઓ પોતાની સાથે લઈ લીધી.
20The priest's heart was glad, and he took the ephod, and the teraphim, and the engraved image, and went in the midst of the people.
21તેઓ બધાં પોતાને રસ્તે આગળ વધ્યા. તેઓએ બાળકો, ઢોરઢાંખર તથા ઘરવખરી સૌથી આગળ રાખ્યાં.
21So they turned and departed, and put the little ones and the cattle and the goods before them.
22જ્યારે તેઓ મીખાહના ઘરથી થોડે દૂર નીકળી ગયા ત્યારે મીખાહના ઘરના માંણસો અને તેની આસપાસ રહેતા લોકોએ દાનકુળસમૂહનો પીછો કર્યો અને તેમને પકડી પાડયા.
22When they were a good way from the house of Micah, the men who were in the houses near to Micah's house were gathered together, and overtook the children of Dan.
23તેમણે તેઓને થોભી જવા માંટે જોરથી બૂમ પાડી, એટલે દાનકુળસમૂહઓએ પાછા ફરીને જોયું અને મીખાહને પૂછયું, “શું વાત છે? શા માંટે તમાંરા માંણસોને લડવા બોલાવ્યા છે?”
23They cried to the children of Dan. They turned their faces, and said to Micah, What ails you, that you come with such a company?
24મીખાહે ગુસ્સામાં કહ્યું, “મેં માંરા માંટે બનાવડાવેલી મૂર્તિને અને યાજકને લઈને તમે રસ્તે પડયા છો, પછી માંરી પાસે રહ્યું શું અને પાછા ઉપરથી પૂછો છો કે, શું છે?”
24He said, you have taken away my gods which I made, and the priest, and are gone away, and what have I more? and how then say you to me, What ails you?
25દાન કુળસમૂહે જવાબ આપ્યો, “મોટેથી ન બોલ. નહિ તો આ લોકોનો પિત્તો જશે અને તેઓ તારા ઉપર તૂટી પડશે. તું અને તારું કુટુંબ બંને હતાં નહતાં થઈ જશો.”
25The children of Dan said to him, "Don't let your voice be heard among us, lest angry fellows fall on you, and you lose your life, with the lives of your household."
26એમ કહીને દાનવંશીઓ રસ્તે પડયા અને મીખાહ સમજી ગયો કે એ લોકોને માંરાથી પહોંચાય એમ નથી, તેથી તે ઘેર પાછો ફર્યો.
26The children of Dan went their way: and when Micah saw that they were too strong for him, he turned and went back to his house.
27ત્યાર પછી દાન કુળસમૂહના લોકોએ મૂર્તિઓ અને યાજકને ‘લાઈશ’ નામના સ્થળે લઈ ગયા જ્યાં શાંતિમય અને શંકારહિત લોકો હતાં. તેઓ નગરની અંદર ગયા અને સર્વ લોકોની તેઓની તરવારથી હત્યા કરી અને તેને બાળી નાખ્યા.
27They took that which Micah had made, and the priest whom he had, and came to Laish, to a people quiet and secure, and struck them with the edge of the sword; and they burnt the city with fire.
28ત્યાં એ લોકોને મદદ કરે એવું કોઈ ન હતું. કારણ કે તેઓ નગર સિદોનથી ધણા દૂર હતા અને તેઓને અરામના લોકો સાથે કોઈ સંબધ નહોતો, લાઈશ એ બેથ-રહોબના એક ભાગમાં ખીણમાં આવેલું હતું. દાનકુળસમહોએ ફરી તે નગર બાંધવાનું શરૂ કર્યુ અને ત્યાં વસવાટ કર્યો.
28There was no deliverer, because it was far from Sidon, and they had no dealings with any man; and it was in the valley that lies by Beth Rehob. They built the city, and lived therein.
29તેઓએ પોતાના પિતૃના નામ ઉપરથી તે નગરનું નામ ‘દાન’ પાડયું; દાન, જે ઈસ્રાએલમાં જન્મ્યો હતો, પણ તેનું મૂળ નામ ‘લાઈશ’ હતું.
29They called the name of the city Dan, after the name of Dan their father, who was born to Israel: however the name of the city was Laish at the first.
30દાનકુળસમૂહોએ પેલી મૂર્તિઓ લઈ અને તેઓની પ્રતિષ્ઠા કરી યોનાથાન ગેર્શોમનો પુત્ર, તથા મૂસાનો પૌત્ર હતો અને તેના પુત્રો દેશ, બંદીવાન થયો ત્યાં સુધી દાન કુળસમૂહના યાજક બની રહ્યાં.
30The children of Dan set up for themselves the engraved image: and Jonathan, the son of Gershom, the son of Moses, he and his sons were priests to the tribe of the Danites until the day of the captivity of the land.
31મુલાકાત મંડપ જયાં સુધી દેવનું ઘર શીલોહમાં રહ્યું ત્યાં સુધી દાનના કુળે મીખાહની મૂર્તિઓનું ભજન કર્યુ.
31So they set them up Micah's engraved image which he made, all the time that the house of God was in Shiloh.
