1પછી એક દિવસ સામસૂન પલિસ્તીઓના નગર ગાઝામાં ગયો, ત્યાં તેણે એક વારાંગના જોઈ અને તે તેની પાસે ગયો.
1Samson went to Gaza, and saw there a prostitute, and went in to her.
2ગાઝાનાં લોકોમાં વાત પ્રસરી ગઈ કે, “સામસૂન ત્યાં આવ્યો છે,” એટલે તેઓ તેને ધેરી વળ્યા અને આખી રાત તેના બહાર આવવાની રાહ જોતા નગરના દરવાજે ટાંપીને તેને પકડવા માંટે બેસી રહ્યાં, આખી રાત એમ જ બેસી રહ્યાં. તેમણે વિચાર્યુ, “સવાર સુધી આપણે રાહ જોઈશું અને પછી તેને માંરી નાખીશું.”
2It was told the Gazites, saying, Samson is come here. They compassed him in, and laid wait for him all night in the gate of the city, and were quiet all the night, saying, Let be until morning light, then we will kill him.
3પણ સામસૂન મધરાત સુધી સૂઈ રહ્યો અને અડધી રાતે ઊઠીને તેણે નગરના દરવાજાનાં બારણાં પકડીને અને બારસાખ તેમજ ભૂગળ જે દરવાજાને તાળુ માંરી દે તે બધું જ નીચે ખેંચી કાઢયું અને આ સર્વ ખભા ઉપર ઉપાડી લીધું અને તે બધું હેબ્રોન નગરની પાસે આવેલા પર્વતની ચોટ પર લઈ ગયો.
3Samson lay until midnight, and arose at midnight, and laid hold of the doors of the gate of the city, and the two posts, and plucked them up, bar and all, and put them on his shoulders, and carried them up to the top of the mountain that is before Hebron.
4એ પછી સામસૂન સોરેકની ખીણમાં રહેતી દલીલાહ નામની એક સ્ત્રીના પ્રેમમાં પડયો.
4It came to pass afterward, that he loved a woman in the valley of Sorek, whose name was Delilah.
5નગરના પલિસ્તી શાસનકર્તાઓ દલીલાહ પાસે ગયા. અને કહ્યું, “સામસૂનને લલચાવીને તું જાણી લે કે, ‘એનામાં આટલી બધી શક્તિ કયાંથી આવે છે? અને અમે તેને કેવી રીતે બંદીવાન કરી શકીએ અને બાંધી શકીએ? અને અમે તેને કેવીરીતે લાચાર બનાવી શકીએ? તમે અમને આ સર્વ જણાવશો તો અમે તમને અગિયારસો ચાંદીના સિક્કા આપીશું.”
5The lords of the Philistines came up to her, and said to her, Entice him, and see in which his great strength lies, and by what means we may prevail against him, that we may bind him to afflict him: and we will each give you of us eleven hundred pieces of silver.
6દલીલાહે સામસૂનને કહ્યું, “તારું મહાબળ શામાં રહેલું છે, તથા તું સાથી બંધાય કે જેથી તને દુઃખ દઈ શકાય તે તું કૃપા કરીને મને કહે.
6Delilah said to Samson, Tell me, Please, in which your great strength lies, and with which you might be bound to afflict you.
7સામસૂને કહ્યું, “મને જો તેઓ સાત લીલી પણછો કે જે સૂકાઈ ન હોયતે વડે બાંધે તો હું તેઓ જેવો દુર્બળ થઈ જાઉં.”
7Samson said to her, If they bind me with seven green cords that were never dried, then shall I become weak, and be as another man.
8આથી પલિસ્તી સરદારોએ દલીલાહને સાત લીલી પણછો તેને બાંધવા જે સૂકાયેલી ન હતી આપી તેથી તેણે તેનો બાંધવા માંટે ઊપયોગ કર્યો.
8Then the lords of the Philistines brought up to her seven green cords which had not been dried, and she bound him with them.
9સામસૂનને પકડવા થોડા માંણસો તેના ઓરડામાં સંતાયા હતાં. દલીલાહે બૂમ પાડી, “સામસૂન, પલિસ્તીઓ તને પકડવા આવે છે!” પણ અગ્નિ પાસે લઈ જતા જેમ શણની દોરી અચાનક તૂટી જાય તમે તેણે પણછો તોડી નાખી, આ રીતે તેની શક્તિનુ રહસ્ય તેઓ જાણી શકયા નહિ.
9Now she had liers-in-wait abiding in the inner chamber. She said to him, The Philistines are on you, Samson. He broke the cords, as a string of tow is broken when it touches the fire. So his strength was not known.
10ત્યાર પછી દલીલાહે તેને કહ્યું, “તું માંરી મશ્કરી કરે છે! તે મને જૂઠું કહ્યું છે! કૃપા કરીને મને કહે, તને કેવી રીતે બાંધી શકાય?
10Delilah said to Samson, Behold, you have mocked me, and told me lies: now tell me, Please, with which you might be bound.
11તેણે કહ્યું, “જો મને કદી વપરાયાં ન હોય એવાં નવાંનકોર દોરડાં વડે બાંધે તો હું કોઈ પણ માંણસના જેવો દૂબળો થઈ જાઉં.”
11He said to her, If they only bind me with new ropes with which no work has been done, then shall I become weak, and be as another man.
12દલીલાહે તેને નવાં દોરડાં લઈને તેના વડે બાંધી દીધો. પછી તેણે બૂમ પાડી, “સામસૂન, પલિસ્તીઓ તમને પકડવા આવે છે! તેણે પોતાના ઓરડાનાં દરવાજાની બહાર માંણસોને સંતાડી રાખ્યા હતાં.” પણ સામસૂને પોતાને હાથે બાંધેલા નવા દોરડાંને તાંતણાની જેમ તોડી નાખ્યાં.
12So Delilah took new ropes, and bound him therewith, and said to him, The Philistines are on you, Samson. The liers-in-wait were abiding in the inner chamber. He broke them off his arms like a thread.
13ત્યારે દલીલાહે સામસૂનને કહ્યું, “અત્યાર સુધી તમે માંરી હાંસી ઉડાવી અને મને ખોટું કહ્યું, પણ હવે મને કહો, માંરે જો તમને બાંધવા હોય તો માંરે કેવી રીતે કરવું?”સામસૂને કહ્યું, “જો તું માંરા માંથાના વાળની સાત લટોને સાળનો ઊપયોગ કરી તેની સાથે ગૂંથી લે અને મને ખીલીથી જકડી દે, તો હું કોઈ પણ બીજા માંણસ જેવો જ દૂર્બળ થઈ જાઉં,” તેથી તેણે તેને ઊંધાડી દીધો.
13Delilah said to Samson, Hitherto you have mocked me, and told me lies: tell me with which you might be bound. He said to her, If you weave the seven locks of my head with the web.
14તે જ્યારે ઊંધી ગયો ત્યારે તેણે સાળ લીધી અને તેની સાત લટોને ગૂંથી અને તંબુના ખીલા સાથે જકડી દીધી અને પછી બૂમ પાડી, “સામસૂન, પલિસ્તીઓ તને પકડવા આવ્યા છે!” તે ઊંધમાંથી જાગ્યો અને તંબૂનો ખીલો ખેંચી કાઢયો અને પોતાના વાળની સાત લટોને છોડી નાખી.
14She fastened it with the pin, and said to him, The Philistines are on you, Samson. He awakened out of his sleep, and plucked away the pin of the beam, and the web.
15આથી દલીલાહે તેને ઠપકો આપતાં કહ્યું, “જો તને માંરામાં વિશ્વાસ ના હોય તો તું કેવી રીતે કહી શકે કે તું મને પ્રેમ કરે છે? આ ત્રીજી વાર તે માંરી હાંસી ઉડાવી, અને હજુ સુધી તમે મને બતાવ્યું નથી કે આટલી બધી તાકાત તમાંરામાં શાથી છે?”
15She said to him, How can you say, I love you, when your heart is not with me? you have mocked me these three times, and have not told me in which your great strength lies.
16દલીલાહ દરરોજ તેને આ સવાલ પૂછતી અને દબાણ કરતી એટલે આખરે થાકીને તેણે તેને ક્યાંથી શક્તિ મળે છે, તે સાચું રહસ્ય જણાવી દીધું.
16It happened, when she pressed him daily with her words, and urged him, that his soul was vexed to death.
17તેણે કહ્યું, “માંરા માંથાના વાળ કદી અસ્ત્રાથી કાપવામાં આવ્યા નથી, કારણ કે હું જન્મ્યો તે દિવસથી એક નાઝીરી થવા માંટે હું દેવને સમર્પિત થયેલો છું. જો માંરું માંથું મૂંડાવામાં આવે તો માંરી તાકાત જતી રહે અને હું બીજા સામાંન્ય માંણસ જેવો દૂર્બળ થઈ જાઉં.”
17He told her all his heart, and said to her, "No razor has ever come on my head; for I have been a Nazirite to God from my mother's womb. If I am shaved, then my strength will go from me, and I will become weak, and be like any other man."
18દલીલાહને લાગ્યું કે આખરે તેણે તેને સાચું કહ્યું હતું, આથી તેણે પલિસ્તી સરદારોને તેડવા માંણસો મોકલી કહેવડાવ્યું, “હવે આ વખતે છેલ્લી વાર તમે સૌ આવો. કારણ કે છેવટે તેણે મને પોતાની સાચી શક્તિના રહસ્ય વિશે મને કહ્યું છે.” આથી પલિસ્તી આગેવાનો તેઓની સાથે નાણાં લઈને આવ્યા.
18When Delilah saw that he had told her all his heart, she sent and called for the lords of the Philistines, saying, Come up this once, for he has told me all his heart. Then the lords of the Philistines came up to her, and brought the money in their hand.
19દલીલાહે સામસૂનને પોતાના ખોળામાં ઊધાડી દીધો અને એક માંણસને બોલાવી તેના વાળની સાત લટો બોડાવી નખાવી; આ રીતે દલીલાહે તેને નિર્બળ બનાવી દીધો અને તેની તાકાત તેને છોડી ચાલી ગઈ.
19She made him sleep on her knees; and she called for a man, and shaved off the seven locks of his head; and she began to afflict him, and his strength went from him.
20ત્યાર પછી દલીલાહે બૂમ પાડી, “સામસૂન, પલિસ્તીઓ તમને પકડવા આવ્યા છે!” તે ઊધમાંથી જાગી ઊઠયો અને વિચાર કરવા લાગ્યો કે, “હું ઝટકો માંરીને દર વખતની જેમ છૂટો થઈ જઈશ.” પણ તેને ખબર ન પડી કે યહોવા તેને છોડીને જતાં રહ્યાં છે.
20She said, The Philistines are on you, Samson. He awoke out of his sleep, and said, I will go out as at other times, and shake myself free. But he didn't know that Yahweh had departed from him.
21પલિસ્તીઓએ તેને પકડી લીધો અને તેની આંખો કાઢી નાખી, અને તેને ગાઝા લઈ ગયા, ત્યાં તેને પિત્તળની સાંકળોથી બાંધીને કેદખાનામાં અનાજ દળવાનું કામ સોંપવામાં આવ્યું.
21The Philistines laid hold on him, and put out his eyes; and they brought him down to Gaza, and bound him with fetters of brass; and he did grind in the prison-house.
22પરંતુ તેના મૂંડી નાખેલા વાળ ફરી ઊગવા માંડયા.
22However the hair of his head began to grow again after he was shaved.
23પલિસ્તી આગેવાનોએ તેમના દેવ દાગોનને મોટો ઉત્સવ અને અર્પણો આપવા માંટે તૈયારી કરતા હતાં અને આનંદ કરવા ભેગા થયા. તેઓ કહેતા હતાં, “આપણા દેવે, આપણા શત્રુ સામસૂનને આપણા હવાલે કરી દીધો છે.”
23The lords of the Philistines gathered them together to offer a great sacrifice to Dagon their god, and to rejoice; for they said, Our god has delivered Samson our enemy into our hand.
24અને તેને જોઈને તેઓએ તેમના દેવની સ્તુતિ કરી અને કહ્યું, આપણા દેવે આપણા શત્રુને આપણે હવાલે કરી દીધો છે.“જે માંણસે દેશનો નાશ કર્યો, અને જેણે આપણાં લોકોને માંરી નાખ્યા હવે તે આપણા કબજામાં છો!”
24When the people saw him, they praised their god; for they said, Our god has delivered into our hand our enemy, and the destroyer of our country, who has slain many of us.
25નશાની હાલતમાં તેઓએ કહ્યું, “સામસૂનને બોલોવો; જેથી તે અમાંરું મનોરંજન કરી શકે!” આમ સામસૂનને કેદખાનામાંથી બહાર લાવવામાં આવ્યો અને તેણે તેઓ માંટે અભિનય કર્યો. પછી તેને મંદિરના બે થામભલાઓની વચ્ચે ઊભો રાખવામાં આવ્યો.
25It happened, when their hearts were merry, that they said, Call for Samson, that he may make us sport. They called for Samson out of the prison-house; and he made sport before them. They set him between the pillars:
26સામસૂને જે છોકરાએ તેનો હાથ પકડી રાખ્યો હતો, તેને કહ્યું, “મને એવી રીતે ઊભો રાખ કે મંદિરના મુખ્ય થાંભલાને હું અડી શકું, જેથી હું તેને અઢેલી આરામ કરી શકું.”
26and Samson said to the boy who held him by the hand, Allow me that I may feel the pillars whereupon the house rests, that I may lean on them.
27મંદિર સ્ત્રી-પુરુષોથી ખીચોખીચ ભરેલું હતું. બધા જ પલિસ્તી સરદારો ત્યાં હાજર હતાં. અને આશરે 3,000 સ્ત્રી પુરુષો ધાબા ઉપરથી સામસૂનના ખેલ જોતાં હતાં,
27Now the house was full of men and women; and all the lords of the Philistines were there; and there were on the roof about three thousand men and women, who saw while Samson made sport.
28પછી સામસૂને યહોવાને પોકાર કરીને કહ્યું, “ઓ સર્વસમર્થ યહોવા, મને સાંભળો, અને આ છેલ્લી વાર મને શક્તિ આપો કે જેથી હું માંરી આંખો માંટે પલિસ્તીઓ ઉપર બદલો લઈ શકું.”
28Samson called to Yahweh, and said, Lord Yahweh, remember me, Please, and strengthen me, Please, only this once, God, that I may be at once avenged of the Philistines for my two eyes.
29પછી મંદિરના બે ટેકારૂપ વચ્ચેના થાંભલાને તેણે બાથમાં લીધા, તેણે જમણો હાથ એક થાંભલા ઉપર અને ડાબો હાત બીજા થાંભલા ઉપર મૂકીને બધું વજન તેના ઉપર નાખ્યું અને પોકાર કર્યો,
29Samson took hold of the two middle pillars on which the house rested, and leaned on them, the one with his right hand, and the other with his left.
30સામસૂને કહ્યું, “મને પલિસ્તીઓની સાથે મરવા દો.” પછી તેણે મંદિરના થાંભલા પર સંપૂર્ણ બળ વાપરીને નીચે એવી રીતે ખેચી પાડ્યા કે તે મંદિરના તમાંમ લોકો ઉપર તૂટી પડે જેમાં પલિસ્તીના આગેવાનો પણ હતાં આમ, તેણે ઘણા માંણસો માંરી નાખ્યા તે મરી રહ્યો હોવાથી તેણે જેટલા લોકોને માંર્યા હતાં તેના કરતા વધારે સંખ્યામાં લોકોને માંર્યા.
30Samson said, Let me die with the Philistines. He bowed himself with all his might; and the house fell on the lords, and on all the people who were therein. So the dead that he killed at his death were more than those who he killed in his life.
31પછીથી તેના ભાઈઓ અને તેનું આખુ કુટુંબ તેનો મૃતદેહ લેવા માંટે આવ્યાં. તેઓ તેને સોરાહ અને એશ્તાઓલ વચ્ચે આવેલી તેના પિતા માંનોઆહની કબરે લઈ ગયા; તેઓ તેને ત્યાં લઈ ગયા અને તેને દફનાવ્યો, તેણે વીસ વર્ષ સુધી ઈસ્રાએલનો ન્યાય કર્યો હતો.
31Then his brothers and all the house of his father came down, and took him, and brought him up, and buried him between Zorah and Eshtaol in the burying-place of Manoah his father. He judged Israel twenty years.
