1
હે બિન્યામીનના લોકો, જીવ બચાવવા ભાગો, યરૂશાલેમમાંથી નીકળી જાઓ, તકોઆમાં રણશિંગડું વગાડો અને બેથ-હાક્કેરેમ પર ચેતવણીનો દીવો પેટાવો, સર્વને ચેતવણી આપો કે ઉત્તર તરફથી સાર્મથ્યવાન લશ્કર મહાવિનાશ કરવા આવી રહ્યું છે.

Flee for safety, you children of Benjamin, out of the midst of Jerusalem, and blow the trumpet in Tekoa, and raise up a signal on Beth Haccherem; for evil looks forth from the north, and a great destruction.
2
તુ ખૂબ સુંદર અને અડકવામાં નાજુક છે, પણ “સિયોનની દીકરી, હું તારો નાશ કરવાનો છું.”

The comely and delicate one, the daughter of Zion, will I cut off.

ઘેટાંપાળકો પોતાનાં ટોળા લઇને ત્યાં આવે છે. એની ફરતે તંબુઓ નાંખે છે, દરેક જણ પોતાને ગમે તે જગ્યાએ ચરશે.

Shepherds with their flocks shall come to her; they shall pitch their tents against her round about; they shall feed everyone in his place.
4
તેઓ કહે છે: “તેની સામે યુદ્ધે ચડવા માટે તૈયાર થાઓ; ચાલો, આપણે ભરબપોરે તેના પર હુમલો કરીએ. હાય રે! દિવસ તો ઢળી ગયો, સંધ્યાની છાયા લંબાતી જાય છે!

Prepare you war against her; arise, and let us go up at noon. Woe to us! for the day declines, for the shadows of the evening are stretched out.
5
તો ચાલો, આપણે તેના પર રાતે હુમલો કરીને તેના મહેલોનો નાશ કરીએ.”

Arise, and let us go up by night, and let us destroy her palaces.
6
આમ સૈન્યોના દેવ યહોવાએ આ પ્રમાણે કહ્યું છે, “તેણીના વૃક્ષો કાપી નાખો અને યરૂશાલેમ પર આક્રમણ કરવા મોરચાઓ ઊભા કરો. આ નગર તો દંડને પાત્ર છે કારણ કે એમાં જુલમ સિવાય બીજું કશું નથી.

For thus has Yahweh of Hosts said, Hew you down trees, and cast up a mound against Jerusalem: this is the city to be visited; she is wholly oppression in the midst of her.
7
જેમ ઝરો પાણીથી ઊભરાય છે તેમ એ દુષ્ટતાથી ઊભરાય છે. નગરમાં મારઝૂડ અને લૂંટફાટ સિવાય કશું જ સંભળાતું નથી, માંદગી અને ધા સિવાય કશું જોવા મળતું નથી.

As a well casts forth its waters, so she casts forth her wickedness: violence and destruction is heard in her; before me continually is sickness and wounds.
8
માટે યરૂશાલેમ, આ ચેતવણી પર તું ધ્યાન આપ. નહિ તો ધૃણાથી હું તારો ત્યાગ કરીશ. તને વસ્તી વગરનું વેરાન બનાવી દઇશ.”

Be instructed, Jerusalem, lest my soul be alienated from you; lest I make you a desolation, a land not inhabited.
9
સૈન્યોના દેવ યહોવાએ મને કહ્યું, “તમારા પર એક પછી એક આફત આવી પડશે અને ઇસ્રાએલમાં જે થોડાં બાકી રહેલા હશે તેઓને શોધીને લઇ જવામાં આવશે. દ્રાક્ષા તોડનાર વેલા પર ચંૂટાયા વગર રહી ગયેલી દ્રાક્ષાઓને એકત્ર કરવા ફરીથી વેલાને તપાસી જુએ છે, તેમ બચાવી લીધેલા મારા થોડા લોકોને તું જરૂર જોતો હોઇશ.”

Thus says Yahweh of Hosts, They shall thoroughly glean the remnant of Israel as a vine: turn again your hand as a grape-gatherer into the baskets.
10
મેં જવાબ આપ્યો, “મારે કોને કહેવું? કોને ચેતવવા? કોણ સાંભળશે? તેમના કાન તમારા વિષે કંઇ સાંભળવા માંગતા નથી. હા, તેઓ યહોવાના વચનને નિંદાસ્પદ ગણે છે, તેઓને તે ગમતા નથી.

To whom shall I speak and testify, that they may hear? behold, their ear is uncircumcised, and they can't listen: behold, the word of Yahweh is become to them a reproach; they have no delight in it.
11
પણ, યહોવા, હું તારા રોષથી ભર્યોભર્યો છું, હું એને અંદર સમાવી શકતો નથી.” ત્યારે યહોવાએ કહ્યું, “તો એને મહોલ્લામાં રમતાં નાનાં બાળકો પર અને ટોળે વળતા તરુંણો પર ઠાલવ, પતિ, પત્ની, અને ઘરડાઓ સુદ્ધાં બધા જ એનો ભોગ બનશે.

Therefore I am full of the wrath of Yahweh; I am weary with holding in: pour it out on the children in the street, and on the assembly of young men together; for even the husband with the wife shall be taken, the aged with him who is full of days.
12
તેઓના શત્રુઓ તેઓનાં ઘરોમાં વાસો કરશે અને તેઓનાં ખેતરો તથા પત્નીઓ લઇ લેશે. કારણ કે હું આ દેશના લોકોને શિક્ષા કરીશ.” આ યહોવાના વચન છે.

Their houses shall be turned to others, their fields and their wives together; for I will stretch out my hand on the inhabitants of the land, says Yahweh.
13
“કારણ કે તેઓ બધા સામાન્ય માણસથી માંડીને છેક ઉચ્ચ અધિકારી સુધી સર્વ તેમના લોભ દ્વારા ખોટા લાભો મેળવે છે, અને તેમના પ્રબોધકો અને યાજકો પણ તેવી જ છેતરામણી રીતે વતેર્ છે!

For from the least of them even to the greatest of them everyone is given to covetousness; and from the prophet even to the priest everyone deals falsely.
14
તેઓ મારા લોકોના ઘાને સામાન્ય ઉઝરડા હોય એમ ઉપચાર કરે છે, તેઓ કહે છે કે, ‘બરાબર છે, બધું બરાબર છે.’ પણ લગારે બરાબર નથી.

They have healed also the hurt of my people slightly, saying, Peace, peace; when there is no peace.
15
પોતાનાં અધમ કૃત્યોની તેમને લાજ શરમ આવે છે ખરી? લાજશરમ? એમને વળી લાજશરમ કેવી? તેઓ ભોંઠપણને ધોળીને પી ગયા છે. તેથી બીજાની જેમ તેમનું પણ પતન થશે, હું જ્યારે તેમને સજા કરીશ ત્યારે તેઓ ઠોકર ખાઇને ભોંયભેગા થઇ જશે.” આ યહોવાના વચન છે.

Were they ashamed when they had committed abomination? nay, they were not at all ashamed, neither could they blush: therefore they shall fall among those who fall; at the time that I visit them they shall be cast down, says Yahweh.
16
હજુ પણ યહોવા તમને સમજાવે છે: “જુઓ, ભૂતકાળના વષોર્માં તમે દેવના માગોર્માં ચાલતા હતા. તો જે ઉત્તમ માર્ગ છે તેની શોધ કરીને તે માગેર્ ચાલો. ત્યાં તમારા આત્માને શાંતિ મળશે. પણ તમે પ્રત્યુત્તર આપો છો, ‘ના, અમારે એવા રસ્તા પર ચાલવું નથી!’

Thus says Yahweh, Stand you in the ways and see, and ask for the old paths, where is the good way; and walk therein, and you shall find rest for your souls: but they said, We will not walk therein.
17
તમને ચેતવણી આપવા મેં તમારા પર ચોકીદારો નીમ્યા. ‘રણશિંગડાનો અવાજ સાંભળજો, વિપત્તિ આવતી હશે, ત્યારે તે તમને ચેતવી દેશે.’ પરંતુ તમે કહ્યું, ‘ના, અમે તે તરફ ધ્યાન આપીશું નહિ.’

I set watchmen over you, saying, Listen to the sound of the trumpet; but they said, We will not listen.
18
આથી યહોવાએ કહ્યું, “હે પ્રજાઓ, તમે સાંભળો, અને જાણી લો કે મારા લોકોના શા હાલ થવાના છે.
18
Therefore hear, you nations, and know, congregation, what is among them.
19
હે પૃથ્વીના લોકો, સાંભળો, અને નોંધી રાખો, કે તે લોકો પર હું આફત ઉતારનાર છું. એ એમના કાવાદાવાનું ફળ છે. તેમણે મારા શબ્દો કાને ધર્યા નથી; અને તેમણે મારા નિયમશાસ્ત્ર નો અસ્વીકાર કર્યો છે.”
19
Hear, earth: behold, I will bring evil on this people, even the fruit of their thoughts, because they have not listened to my words; and as for my law, they have rejected it.
20
યહોવા કહે છે, “હવે મારી સમક્ષ શેબાથી દૂરદેશાવરથી મંગાવેલ ધૂપ-લોબાન બાળવાથી કાઇં વળવાનું નથી. તમારી કિંમતી સુગંધીઓ સાચવી રાખો! હું તમારા અર્પણો સ્વીકારી શકતો નથી. તેમાં મને પ્રસન્ન કરતી સુગંધ નથી.
20
To what purpose comes there to me frankincense from Sheba, and the sweet cane from a far country? your burnt offerings are not acceptable, nor your sacrifices pleasing to me.
21
યહોવા કહે છે, “તેથી હું મારા એ લોકોને ઠોકર ખવડાવીશ અને તેઓ ભૂમિ પર પછડાશે; પિતા અને પુત્ર, પડોશી અને મિત્ર બધા જ નાશ પામશે.”

Therefore thus says Yahweh, Behold, I will lay stumbling-blocks before this people; and the fathers and the sons together shall stumble against them; the neighbor and his friend shall perish.
22
યહોવા કહે છે, “ઉત્તરમાંથી એક પ્રજા આવી રહી છે, પૃથ્વીને દૂરને છેડે એક બળવાન પ્રજા યુદ્ધની તૈયારી કરી રહી છે.

Thus says Yahweh, Behold, a people comes from the north country; and a great nation shall be stirred up from the uttermost parts of the earth.
23
તેઓ ક્રૂર અને નિર્દય છે, શસ્ત્રસજ્જ થઇ ઘોડેસવારી કરતા આવે છે, તેઓની કૂચનો અવાજ ઘૂઘવતા સમુદ્ર જેવો છે. હે સિયોનની દીકરી, તેઓ તારી વિરુદ્ધ લડાઇ કરવા તૈયાર છે.”

They lay hold on bow and spear; they are cruel, and have no mercy; their voice roars like the sea, and they ride on horses, everyone set in array, as a man to the battle, against you, daughter of Zion.
24
લોકો કહે છે, “અમે સમાચાર સાંભળ્યા છે, અમારા ગાત્રો ગળી ગયા છે. અમને વેદના જાગી છે, જાણે પ્રસૂતિની વેદના.

We have heard the report of it; our hands wax feeble: anguish has taken hold of us, and pangs as of a woman in travail.
25
બહાર ખેતરોમાં જશો નહિ, રસ્તાઓ પર મુસાફરી કરશો નહિ કારણ કે સર્વત્ર શત્રુ છે અને સંહાર કરવાને તત્પર છે. ચારે તરફ ભય છે.

Don't go forth into the field, nor walk by the way; for the sword of the enemy, and terror, are on every side.
26
હે મારા પ્રિય લોકો શોકનાં વસ્ત્રો ધારણ કરો, રાખમાં બેસો, અને એકના એક પુત્રને માટે હોય તેમ ભગ્નહૃદયે ચિંતા કર. કારણ કે વિનાશ કરનાર સૈન્યો એકાએક આપણા પર ચઢી આવશે.

Daughter of my people, gird you with sackcloth, and wallow yourself in ashes: make you mourning, as for an only son, most bitter lamentation; for the destroyer shall suddenly come on us.
27
યમિર્યા, મેં તને ધાતુઓનો પારખનાર કર્યો છે, મારા લોકોની પરીક્ષા કર, અને તેઓનું મૂલ્ય નક્કી કર. તેઓ શું કહે છે તે તું સાંભળ. અને તેઓ શું કરે છે તે તું જો.

I have made you a tester of metals and a fortress among my people; that you may know and try their way.
28
“એ બધા અધમ બંડખોરો અને યહોવાની વિરુદ્ધ દુષ્ટતા ભરેલી વાતો કરનારા નથી? તેઓ પિત્તળ જેવા કઠોર અને લોખંડ જેવા ક્રૂર છે.

They are all grievous rebels, going about with slanders; they are brass and iron: they all of them deal corruptly.
29
ધમણ ચાલે છે, વેગથી હવા ફૂંકે છે. અને શુદ્ધ કરનારો અગ્નિ વધુ પ્રબળ બની અતિશય ગરમી આપતો જાય છે. આવો અગ્નિ પણ તેઓને શુદ્ધ કરી શકતો નથી. કારણ કે તેઓમાંથી કોઇ જ પ્રકારની શુદ્ધતા બહાર આવી શકે તેમ નથી. તો પછી શુદ્ધિકરણની પ્રક્રિયા શા માટે ચાલુ રાખવી? તે બધુંજ કચરો છે. અગ્નિ ગમે તેટલો પ્રબળ બને પણ તેઓ તો પોતાના દુષ્ટ માગોર્માં ચાલુ જ રહે છે.

The bellows blow fiercely; the lead is consumed of the fire: in vain do they go on refining; for the wicked are not plucked away.
30
તેઓ ‘નકારેલી ચાંદી એમ કહેવાય છે. કારણ કે યહોવાએ તેમનો નકાર કર્યો છે.”
30
Refuse silver shall men them, because Yahweh has rejected them.
