1યહૂદિયાના રાજા યોશિયાના પુત્ર યહોયાકીમના રાજ્યકાળ દરમ્યાન યહોવાનો આ સંદેશો યમિર્યા પાસે આવ્યો:
1The word which came to Jeremiah from Yahweh in the days of Jehoiakim the son of Josiah, king of Judah, saying,
2“રેખાબીઓ પાસે જઇને તેમને વાત કર, તેમને મંદિરના એક ઓરડામાં લઇ આવ અને તેઓને પીવા માટે દ્રાક્ષારસ આપ.”
2Go to the house of the Rechabites, and speak to them, and bring them into the house of Yahweh, into one of the chambers, and give them wine to drink.
3આથી હું હબાસીન્યાના પુત્ર યમિર્યાના પુત્ર યાઅઝાન્યાને તથા તેના સર્વ ભાઇઓ અને પુત્રોને એટલે કે રેખાબીના સર્વ કુટુંબોના પ્રતિનિધિઓને મળવા ગયો.
3Then I took Jaazaniah the son of Jeremiah, the son of Habazziniah, and his brothers, and all his sons, and the whole house of the Rechabites;
4મંદિરમાં તેઓને ગદાલ્યાના પુત્ર હનાન પ્રબોધકના પુત્રોને આપવામાં આવેલા ઓરડામાં લઇ આવ્યો. આ ઓરડો મહેલના અધિકારીના ઓરડા પાસે તથા મંદિરના દરવાન શાલ્લૂમના પુત્ર માઅસેયાના ઓરડાની બરોબર પર હતો.
4and I brought them into the house of Yahweh, into the chamber of the sons of Hanan the son of Igdaliah, the man of God, which was by the chamber of the princes, which was above the chamber of Maaseiah the son of Shallum, the keeper of the threshold.
5પછી મેં તેઓની આગળ પ્યાલા તથા દ્રાક્ષારસ ભરેલા જગ મૂક્યા અને તેઓને તે પીવા માટે આમંત્રણ આપ્યું.
5I set before the sons of the house of the Rechabites bowls full of wine, and cups; and I said to them, Drink you wine.
6પરંતુ તેઓએ કહ્યું, “ના, અમે દ્રાક્ષારસ પીતા નથી. કારણ કે અમારા પિતૃઓ રેખાબના પુત્ર યોનાદાબે અમને આજ્ઞા કરી છે કે, ‘તમે તેમ જ તમારા પુત્રો કોઇ કાળે દ્રાક્ષારસ પીશો નહિ;
6But they said, We will drink no wine; for Jonadab the son of Rechab, our father, commanded us, saying, You shall drink no wine, neither you , nor your sons, forever:
7વળી તેમણે અમને એમ પણ કહ્યું કે, અમારે કદી ઘર બાંધવા નહિ, કે અનાજ ઉગાડવું નહિ, તેમજ દ્રાક્ષાવાડીઓ રોપવી નહિ, તમારે એવી કોઇ મિલકત રાખવી નહિ એને બદલે તમારે જીવનભર તંબુઓમાં જ રહેવું; તે પછી તમે આ ભૂમિમાં જ્યાં તમે વિદેશીઓ તરીકે રહો છો, લાંબા સમય સુધી જીવશો.’
7neither shall you build house, nor sow seed, nor plant vineyard, nor have any; but all your days you shall dwell in tents; that you may live many days in the land in which you sojourn.
8અમે આ સર્વ અમારા પિતૃઓ રેખાબના પુત્ર યોનાદાબે કહ્યા પ્રમાણે કર્યુ છે. ત્યારથી અમે, અમારી પત્નીઓએ, અમારા પુત્રો કે પુત્રીઓ અને અમે પોતે કદી દ્રાક્ષારસ પીતા નથી.
8We have obeyed the voice of Jonadab the son of Rechab, our father, in all that he charged us, to drink no wine all our days, we, our wives, our sons, or our daughters;
9અમે ઘરો બાંધ્યા નથી કે નથી રાખ્યા પોતાનાં ખેતરો કે નથી કરી અમે અનાજની વાવણી.
9nor to build houses for us to dwell in; neither have we vineyard, nor field, nor seed:
10અમે તંબુઓમાં રહીએ છીએ અને અમારા પિતા યોનાદાબે અમને જે સર્વ આજ્ઞાઓ ફરમાવી હતી તે અમે સંપૂર્ણપણે પાળી છે,
10but we have lived in tents, and have obeyed, and done according to all that Jonadab our father commanded us.
11પણ જ્યારે બાબિલના રાજા નબૂખાદનેસ્સારે આ દેશ પર ચઢાઇ કરી ત્યારે અમે નક્કી કર્યું કે, ‘બાબિલવાસીઓના અને અરામના સૈન્યથી બચવા માટે અમારે યરૂશાલેમ ભાગી જવું.’ અને આમ અમે યરૂશાલેમમાં વસીએ છીએ.”
11But it happened, when Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon came up into the land, that we said, Come, and let us go to Jerusalem for fear of the army of the Chaldeans, and for fear of the army of the Syrians; so we dwell at Jerusalem.
12ત્યારબાદ યહોવાનું વચન યમિર્યાની પાસે આ પ્રમાણે આવ્યું:
12Then came the word of Yahweh to Jeremiah, saying,
13ઇસ્રાએલના દેવ યહોવા કહે છે કે: “યહૂદિયા અને યરૂશાલેમમાં જઇને કહે કે, શું તમે મારાં વચનો સાંભળીને શિખામણ નહિ લો?” આ યહોવાના વચન છે.
13Thus says Yahweh of Hosts, the God of Israel: Go, and tell the men of Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem, Will you not receive instruction to listen to my words? says Yahweh.
14“રેખાબીઓ દ્રાક્ષારસ પીતા નથી, કારણ કે તેઓના પિતા યોનાદાબે તેઓને તેમ કરવાની મનાઇ કરી છે. પણ હું તમારી સાથે વારંવાર બોલ્યો છું છતાં તમે મારું સાંભળતા નથી કે આધીન પણ થતાં નથી.
14The words of Jonadab the son of Rechab, that he commanded his sons, not to drink wine, are performed; and to this day they drink none, for they obey their father's commandment: but I have spoken to you, rising up early and speaking; and you have not listened to me.
15મેં એક પછી એક પ્રબોધકોને તમારી પાસે મોકલીને કહેવડાવ્યું કે, તમારા દુષ્ટ માગોર્થી પાછા ફરો તથા અન્ય દેવોની પૂજા કરવાનું બંધ કરો. તો જે દેશ મેં તમને તથા તમારા પિતૃઓને આપ્યો છે તેમાં તમે વસશો;’ પણ તમે કાન ધર્યા નહિ, ને મારું સાંભળ્યું નહિ.
15I have sent also to you all my servants the prophets, rising up early and sending them, saying, Return you now every man from his evil way, and amend your doings, and don't go after other gods to serve them, and you shall dwell in the land which I have given to you and to your fathers: but you have not inclined your ear, nor listened to me.
16રેખાબના પુત્ર યોનાદાબના પુત્રોએ પોતાના પિતૃઓએ જે આજ્ઞા તેઓને આપી, તે માની લીધી છે, પરંતુ આ લોકોએ મારું સાંભળ્યું નથીં.”
16Because the sons of Jonadab the son of Rechab have performed the commandment of their father which he commanded them, but this people has not listened to me;
17અને તેથી હું કહું છું: “મેં જે જે આફતોની ધમકી આપી છે તે બધી હું યહૂદિયા અને યરૂશાલેમના વતનીઓ પર ઉતારીશ. કારણ, મેં તેમને કહ્યું ત્યારે તેમણે સાંભળ્યું નહિ, અને મેં તેમને હાંકલ કરી ત્યારે તેમણે મને જવાબ ન આપ્યો.” આ ઇસ્રાએલના દેવ, સૈન્યોનો દેવ યહોવાના વચન છે.”
17therefore thus says Yahweh, the God of hosts, the God of Israel: Behold, I will bring on Judah and on all the inhabitants of Jerusalem all the evil that I have pronounced against them; because I have spoken to them, but they have not heard; and I have called to them, but they have not answered.
18પછી યમિર્યાએ રેખાબીઓના કુળને કહ્યું, “સૈન્યોનો દેવ યહોવા, ઇસ્રાએલનો દેવ, કહે છે કે, ‘તમે તમારા પિતૃઓ યોનાદાબની આજ્ઞા માની છે, તથા તેની સર્વ આજ્ઞાઓનું પાલન કર્યું છે, અને તમને જે કરવા કહ્યું તે પ્રમાણે જ તમે બધું કર્યું છે;
18Jeremiah said to the house of the Rechabites, Thus says Yahweh of Hosts, the God of Israel: Because you have obeyed the commandment of Jonadab your father, and kept all his precepts, and done according to all that he commanded you;
19માટે સૈન્યોનો દેવ યહોવા, ઇસ્રાએલના દેવ કહે છે કે, રેખાબના પુત્ર યોનાદાબના વંશમાં મારી સેવા કરનારની ખોટ તને કદી પડશે નહિ.”‘
19therefore thus says Yahweh of Hosts, the God of Israel: Jonadab the son of Rechab shall not want a man to stand before me forever.
