1હે ઇસ્રાએલના લોકો, યહોવા તમને જે સંદેશો આપે છે તે ધ્યાનથી સાંભળો;
1Hear the word which Yahweh speaks to you, house of Israel!
2તે કહે છે, “બીજી પ્રજાઓને રસ્તે જશો નહિ, તેઓ કુંડળી તૈયાર કરે છે તથા ગ્રહોની સ્થિતિને આધારે પોતાનું ભવિષ્ય જુએ છે. તેઓ ભવિષ્યકથન કરે તેથી ડરશો નહિ. કારણ કે તે સર્વ કેવળ જૂઠાણું છે.
2Thus says Yahweh, "Don't learn the way of the nations, and don't be dismayed at the signs of the sky; for the nations are dismayed at them.
3તે પ્રજાઓની મૂર્તિઓ કશા કામની નથી, તે તો જંગલમાંથી કાપી આણેલું લાકડું છે; કારીગરે તેને પોતાના ઓજારોથી કોતરી છે.
3For the customs of the peoples are vanity; for one cuts a tree out of the forest, the work of the hands of the workman with the axe.
4અને પછી સોનારૂપાથી શણગારી છે. તેને હથોડા અને ખીલાથી જડી દીધી છે, જેથી પડી ન જાય.
4They deck it with silver and with gold; they fasten it with nails and with hammers, that it not move.
5ખેતરોમાં ઊભા કરેલા અસહાય ચાડિયાની જેમ તેઓના દેવ ત્યાં ઊભા રહે છે! તે બોલી શકતા નથી, તે ચાલી શકતા નથી તેથી ઊંચકીને લઇ જવા પડે છે. આવા દેવોથી ડરશો નહિ, તે કશી ઇજા કરી શકે તેમ નથી, તેમ જ કશું ભલું કરવાની પણ એમની શકિત નથી.”
5They are like a palm tree, of turned work, and don't speak: they must be carried, because they can't go. Don't be afraid of them; for they can't do evil, neither is it in them to do good."
6હે યહોવા, તમારા જેવા બીજા કોઇ દેવ નથી. તમે કેવા મહાન છો અને તમારા નામનો પ્રતાપ પણ કેવો મહાન છે!
6There is none like you, Yahweh; you are great, and your name is great in might.
7હે લોકાધિપતિ, તમારો ભય કોને નહિ લાગે? તમારાથી તો ડરીને જ ચાલવું જોઇએ. સર્વ પ્રજાઓનાં જ્ઞાનીઓમાં અને બધા રાજાઓમાં તમારા જેવું કોઇ નથી.
7Who should not fear you, King of the nations? for to you does it appertain; because among all the wise men of the nations, and in all their royal estate, there is none like you.
8મૂર્તિઓની પૂજા કરનારા બન્ને અક્કલ વગરના અને મૂર્ખ છે. તેઓ મૂર્તિઓ પાસેથી શિખામણ મેળવે છે જે માત્ર લાકડાનાં ટુકડા છે.
8But they are together brutish and foolish: the instruction of idols! it is but a stock.
9તાશીર્શથી ચાંદી અને ઉફાઝમાંથી સોનું લાવીને સોનીઓ એમાંથી વરખ બનાવીને એને શણગારે છે અને જાંબુડિયાં અને કિરમજી રંગના કિંમતી વસ્ત્રો એમને પહેરાવે છે. એ બધી મૂર્તિઓ કારીગરોએ બનાવેલી છે.
9There is silver beaten into plates, which is brought from Tarshish, and gold from Uphaz, the work of the artificer and of the hands of the goldsmith; blue and purple for their clothing; they are all the work of skillful men.
10પરંતુ યહોવા તો સાચેસાચ દેવ છે, એ જીવતાજાગતા દેવ છે, શાશ્વત અધિપતિ છે. તે જ્યારે રોષે ભરાય છે ત્યારે ધરતી ધ્રુજી ઊઠે છે; પ્રજાઓ એમના ક્રોધાગ્નિને ખમી શકતી નથી.
10But Yahweh is the true God; he is the living God, and an everlasting King: at his wrath the earth trembles, and the nations are not able to abide his indignation.
11યહોવા કહે છે, અન્ય દેવોની પૂજા કરનારાઓને તમે આ પ્રમાણે કહેજો: “જેમણે આકાશ અને પૃથ્વીનું સર્જન કર્યું નથી, તેવા તમારા દેવો આકાશ તળેથી તથા પૃથ્વી પરથી નાશ પામશે.”
11Thus shall you say to them, The gods that have not made the heavens and the earth, these shall perish from the earth, and from under the heavens.
12પરંતુ આપણા દેવે પોતાના સાર્મથ્યથી પૃથ્વીને ઉત્પન કરી, પોતાના ડાહપણથી પૃથ્વીને સ્થાપી, પોતાના કૌશલ્યથી આકાશને વિસ્તાર્યુ.
12He has made the earth by his power, he has established the world by his wisdom, and by his understanding has he stretched out the heavens:
13તોફાની વાદળોની ગર્જનાઓથી તેમના અવાજનો પડઘો પડે છે, તે ધુમ્મસને પૃથ્વી પરથી ઊંચે ચઢાવે છે. જેથી વીજળીને ચમકાવીને વરસાદ વરસાવે છે અને પોતાના ભંડારમાંથી વાયુઓને મોકલે છે.
13when he utters his voice, there is a tumult of waters in the heavens, and he causes the vapors to ascend from the ends of the earth; he makes lightnings for the rain, and brings forth the wind out of his treasuries.
14તેની સરખામણીમાં બધા માણસો મૂર્ખ અને અજ્ઞાની થઇ ગયા છે. દરેક સોની પોતે બનાવેલી મૂર્તિ જોઇને શરમાઇ જાય છે, કારણ, એ બધી મૂર્તિઓ તો અસત્ય અને પ્રાણ વગરની છે,
14Every man is become brutish and is without knowledge; every goldsmith is disappointed by his engraved image; for his molten image is falsehood, and there is no breath in them.
15નકામી છે, હાંસીપાત્ર છે. દેવ તેમને સજા કરશે ત્યારે તેઓ નેસ્તનાબૂદ થઇ જશે.
15They are vanity, a work of delusion: in the time of their visitation they shall perish.
16પણ યાકૂબનો દેવ એવો નથી; તે તો આખી સૃષ્ટિનો સર્જનહાર છે, અને ઇસ્રાએલીઓને તે પોતાની પ્રજા ગણે છે. તેનું નામ “સૈન્યોનો દેવ યહોવા છે.”
16The portion of Jacob is not like these; for he is the former of all things; and Israel is the tribe of his inheritance: Yahweh of Hosts is his name.
17યહોવા કહે છે, “તમારામાંના જેઓ ઉપર ઘેરો નાખવામાં આવ્યો છે, તેઓ તમારો સામાન બાંધો અને હવે જવાને માટે તૈયાર રહો.”
17Gather up your wares out of the land, you who abide in the siege.
18કારણ કે તે એમ કહે છે કે, “આ વખતે હું એકાએક તેમને આ દેશમાંથી બહાર ફેંકી દઇશ અને મોટી આપત્તિઓ નીચે એમને કચડી નાખીશ, એક પણ માણસ બચવા પામશે નહિ.”
18For thus says Yahweh, Behold, I will sling out the inhabitants of the land at this time, and will distress them, that they may feel it.
19લોકોએ કહ્યું, “અમારા ઘાની વેદના અસહ્યં છે, તે ઘા કદી રૂજાય તેમ નથી, અમે વિચાર્યુ કે; આતો ફકત એક બિમારી જ છે અને અમે આ સહન કરી શકીશું.”
19Woe is me because of my hurt! my wound is grievous: but I said, Truly this is my grief, and I must bear it.
20પણ અમારો તંબુ હતો ન હતો થઇ ગયો છે, એનાં દોરડાં તૂટી ગયા છે; અમારા પુત્રો અમને છોડીને ચાલ્યા ગયા છે; એક પણ રહ્યો નથી; અમારો તંબુ ફરી ઊભો કરનાર કે એના પડદા બાંધનાર કોઇ નથી!”
20My tent is destroyed, and all my cords are broken: my children are gone forth from me, and they are no more: there is none to spread my tent any more, and to set up my curtains.
21આનુ કારણ મારા લોકોના ઘેટાંપાળકો ભાન ભૂલી ગયા છે; તેઓ યહોવાને અનુસરતા નથી તેથી સફળ થતા નથી. અને તેમના બધા લોકો ઘેટાંઓના ટોળાની જેમ વેરવિખેર થઇ ગયા છે.
21For the shepherds are become brutish, and have not inquired of Yahweh: therefore they have not prospered, and all their flocks are scattered.
22સાંભળો, ઉત્તર તરફથી આવતાં મોટાં સૈન્યોનો ભયંકર અવાજ સાંભળો, તેઓ યહૂદિયાના નગરોને શિયાળવાની કોતરોમાં ફેરવી નાખશે.
22The voice of news, behold, it comes, and a great commotion out of the north country, to make the cities of Judah a desolation, a dwelling-place of jackals.
23હે યહોવા, હું જાણું છું કે માણસનું ભાગ્ય એના હાથની વાત નથી. તે પોતાનો જીવનમાર્ગ નક્કી કરી શકતો નથી.
23Yahweh, I know that the way of man is not in himself: it is not in man who walks to direct his steps.
24તેથી હે યહોવા, તમે અમને સાચે માગેર્ વાળો. અમને પ્રમાણસર શિક્ષા કરો, રોષમાં આવીને નહિ, નહિ તો અમે હતા ન હતા થઇ જઇશું.
24Yahweh, correct me, but in measure: not in your anger, lest you bring me to nothing.
25તમારો રોષ તમે બીજી પ્રજાઓ પર ઉતારો, જે લોકો તમને માનતા નથી, તમારું નામ લેતાં નથી. કારણ, તેઓ યાકૂબના કુટુંબોને ખાઇ ગયા છે, તેમણે તેમનો અંત આણ્યો છે, અને તેમના દેશને વેરાન બનાવી દીધો છે.
25Pour out your wrath on the nations that don't know you, and on the families that don't call on your name: for they have devoured Jacob, yes, they have devoured him and consumed him, and have laid waste his habitation.
