1થોડા સમય બાદ આમ્મોનીઓનો રાજા નાહાશ મૃત્યુ પામ્યો, અને તેના પછી તેની જગ્યાએ તેનો પુત્ર હાનૂન રાજ કરવા લાગ્યો.
1It happened after this, that the king of the children of Ammon died, and Hanun his son reigned in his place.
2દાઉદે કહ્યું, “હું તેના પર દયા રાખીશ. તેનો પિતા નાહાશ મને હંમેશા વફાદાર હતો. અને માંરી સાથે દયાળુ હતો.” તેથી તેના પિતાના મૃત્યુ માંટે દિલસોજી વ્યકત કરવા દાઉદે પોતાનાં માંણસોને હાનૂન પાસે મોકલ્યો.
2David said, I will show kindness to Hanun the son of Nahash, as his father shown kindness to me. So David sent by his servants to comfort him concerning his father. David's servants came into the land of the children of Ammon.
3ત્યારે આમ્મોની સરદારોએ પોતાના ધણી હાનૂનને કહ્યું, “તમે શું એમ માંનો છો કે તમાંરા પિતાને માંન આપવાના હેતુથી દાઉદે આ માંણસોને મોકલ્યા છે? એના આ માંણસો તો જાસૂસો છે, અને દાઉદે તેમને આ શહેરોને શી રીતે જીતી લેવું એની માંહિતી પ્રાપ્ત કરવા મોકલ્યા છે.”
3But the princes of the children of Ammon said to Hanun their lord, Do you think that David honors your father, in that he has sent comforters to you? Hasn't David sent his servants to you to search the city, and to spy it out, and to overthrow it?
4આથી હાનૂને દાઉદના માંણસોને પકડીને, તેઓની અડધી દાઢી મૂંડાવી નાખી, તેમનાં કપડાં કમર નીચેથી કપાવી નાંખ્યા અને તેમને મોકલી દીધા.
4So Hanun took David's servants, and shaved off the one half of their beards, and cut off their garments in the middle, even to their buttocks, and sent them away.
5જયારે દાઉદે આ વાત સાંભળી ત્યારે તેણે તેઓને મળવા માંણસ મોકલ્યો, કારણ, તેઓ ખૂબ શરમ અનુભવતાં હતાં. દાઉદે તેમને કહેવડાવ્યું કે, “તમાંરી દાઢી પાછી ઊગે ત્યાં સુધી તમે યરીખોમાં રહેજો, પછી જ અહીં આવજો.”
5When they told it to David, he sent to meet them; for the men were greatly ashamed. The king said, Wait at Jericho until your beards be grown, and then return.
6હવે આમ્મોનીઓને ભાન થયું કે પોતે દાઉદની દુશ્મનાવટ વહોરી લીધી છે, એટલે તેમણે બેથ-રહોબના અને સોબાહના પ્રાંતોમાંથી 20,000 સિરિયન પાયદળને, માંઅખાહના રાજા પાસેથી 1,000 સૈનિકોને અને ટોબાના પ્રાંતમાંથી 12,000 સૈનિકોને ભાડે રાખ્યા.
6When the children of Ammon saw that they were become odious to David, the children of Ammon sent and hired the Syrians of Beth Rehob, and the Syrians of Zobah, twenty thousand footmen, and the king of Maacah with one thousand men, and the men of Tob twelve thousand men.
7આ સમાંચાર મળતા દાઉદે યોઆબને પોતાના અતિ શકિતશાળી સૈનિકોવાળા સમગ્ર સૈન્ય સાથે મોકલ્યો.
7When David heard of it, he sent Joab, and all the host of the mighty men.
8આમ્મોનીઓ બહાર આવીને નગરના પ્રવેશદ્વાર આગળ ગોઠવાઈ ગયા. અને સોબાહના અને રાહોબનાં અરામીઓ તથા ટોબના અને માંઅખાહના માંણસો ખુલ્લા મેદાનમાં યુદ્ધ લડવા માંટે આવ્યંા.
8The children of Ammon came out, and put the battle in array at the entrance of the gate: and the Syrians of Zobah and of Rehob, and the men of Tob and Maacah, were by themselves in the field.
9જયારે યોઆબે જોયું કે, તેને બે મોરચે યુદ્ધ કરવું પડશે, ત્યારે તેણે ઇસ્રાએલીઓને અરામીઓની સામે યુદ્ધ કરવા હારબંધ ગોઠવી દીધા.
9Now when Joab saw that the battle was set against him before and behind, he chose of all the choice men of Israel, and put them in array against the Syrians:
10બાકીની સેનાને તેણે પોતાના ભાઈ અબીશાયની સરદારી હેઠળ મૂકી દીધી અને તેણે આમ્મોનીઓની સામે મોરચો માંડયો.
10The rest of the people he committed into the hand of Abishai his brother; and he put them in array against the children of Ammon.
11યોઆબે તેને કહ્યું, “જો હું અરામીઓને હરાવી નહિ શકું તો તમાંરે આવીને મને મદદ કરવી પડશે, અને જો તમે બધા આમ્મોનીઓને નહિ હરાવી શકો તો હું તમને મદદ કરવા આવીશ.
11He said, If the Syrians be too strong for me, then you shall help me; but if the children of Ammon be too strong for you, then I will come and help you.
12પરંતુ તમે સૌ હિંમત રાખજો. અને આપણા લોકો માંટે અને આપણા દેવનાં નગરો માંટે બહાદુરીથી લડજો, અને યહોવાની જે ઇચ્છા હશે તે મુજબ થશે.”
12Be of good courage, and let us play the man for our people, and for the cities of our God: and Yahweh do that which seems him good.
13યોઆબ અને તેના માંણસો જયારે અરામીઓ સામે યુદ્ધ કરવા માંટે આગળ વધ્યા ત્યારે અરામીઓ ભાગવા લાગ્યાં.
13So Joab and the people who were with him drew near to the battle against the Syrians: and they fled before him.
14આમ્મોનીઓએ જોયું કે અરામીઓ ભાગી રહ્યાં હતા. એટલે તેઓ પણ અબીશાયથી ભાગીને નગરમાં ભરાઈ ગયા, અને યોઆબ યરૂશાલેમ પાછો ફર્યો.
14When the children of Ammon saw that the Syrians were fled, they likewise fled before Abishai, and entered into the city. Then Joab returned from the children of Ammon, and came to Jerusalem.
15અરામીઓએ જોયું કે તેઓ ઇસ્રાએલ આગળ હારી ગયા છે, એટલે તેઓએ પોતાના સૈન્યને ફરીથી એકઠું કર્યુ.
15When the Syrians saw that they were put to the worse before Israel, they gathered themselves together.
16હદારએઝેરે કાસદો મોકલીને ફ્રાત નદીની પેલે પારના પ્રદેશમાંથી બીજા અરામીઓને બોલાવ્યા, અને તેઓ હદારએઝેરના સેનાપતિ શોબાખની સરદારી હેઠળ હેલામ તરફ આગળ વધ્યા.
16Hadarezer sent, and brought out the Syrians who were beyond the River: and they came to Helam, with Shobach the captain of the host of Hadarezer at their head.
17દાઉદને સંદેશો મળ્યો ત્યારે તે પોતે અને તેના ઇસ્રાએલી સેનિકોને યર્દન ઓળંગી અને હેલામમાં કૂચ કરી, ત્યાં અરામીઓ યુદ્ધ કરવા તૈયાર થયા અને લડાઈ કરી.
17It was told David; and he gathered all Israel together, and passed over the Jordan, and came to Helam. The Syrians set themselves in array against David, and fought with him.
18પરંતુ ઇસ્રાએલીઓએ તેમને ભગાડી મૂકયા. દાઉદે 700 રથ હાંકનારને અને 40,000 ઘોડેસ્વાર સૈનિકોનો સંહાર કર્યો, અને તેમના સેનાપતિ શોબાખને ગંભીરપણે ઘાયલ કર્યો અને તે રણભૂમિમાં જ અવસાન પામ્યો.
18The Syrians fled before Israel; and David killed of the Syrians the men of seven hundred chariots, and forty thousand horsemen, and struck Shobach the captain of their host, so that he died there.
19અરામ સૈન્યની હાર થઈ છે તે જાણીને હદારએઝેર અને તેના તાબેદાર રાજાઓ દાઉદના તાબેદાર થયા, અને તેમની સેવાઓ સ્વીકારી, ત્યારબાદ ફરી અરામીઓએ આમ્મોનીઓની યુદ્ધમાં મદદ કરવાની હિંમત કદી કરી નહિ.
19When all the kings who were servants to Hadarezer saw that they were put to the worse before Israel, they made peace with Israel, and served them. So the Syrians feared to help the children of Ammon any more.
