1યહોવાએ શમુએલને કહ્યું, “શાઉલને માંટે તું કયાં સુધી શોક કર્યા કરીશ? મેં એને રાજા પદેથી ઉઠાડી મૂકયો છે. તારા શિંગડામાં તેલ ભરી લે અને જા. હું તને બેથલેહેમના યશાઇ પાસે મોકલું છું. કારણ કે, મેં તેના પુત્રોમાંથી એકને રાજા તરીકે પસંદ કર્યો છે.”
1Yahweh said to Samuel, How long will you mourn for Saul, seeing I have rejected him from being king over Israel? fill your horn with oil, and go: I will send you to Jesse the Bethlehemite; for I have provided me a king among his sons.
2શમુએલે પૂછયું, “હું કેવી રીતે જાઉં? જો શાઉલને તેની ખબર પડી જાય તો તે મને માંરી નાખશે.”યહોવાએ કહ્યું, “તું તારી સાથે એક વાછરડું લઈ જા, અને તેને કહેજે કે, ‘હું યહોવાને યજ્ઞ અર્પવા આવ્યો છું.’
2Samuel said, How can I go? if Saul hear it, he will kill me. Yahweh said, Take a heifer with you, and say, I am come to sacrifice to Yahweh.
3યશાઇને એ યજ્ઞમાં બોલાવજે. પછી તારે શું કરવાનું છે તે હું તને કહીશ. જે વ્યકિત હુઁ તને દેખાડું, તમાંરે તેનો રાજા તરીકે અભિષેક કરવો.”
3Call Jesse to the sacrifice, and I will show you what you shall do: and you shall anoint to me him whom I name to you.
4પછી યહોવાએ કહ્યું; તે મુજબ શમુએલે કર્યું. તે બેથલેહેમ ગયો અને શહેરના વડીલો તેને મળવા દોડી આવ્યા. તેઓએ પૂછયું, “આપ શા માંટે આવ્યા છો? સમાંચાર તો સારા છે ને?”
4Samuel did that which Yahweh spoke, and came to Bethlehem. The elders of the city came to meet him trembling, and said, Come you peaceably?
5શમુએલે કહ્યું, “હા, હું શાંતિમાં આવ્યો છું. હું યહોવાને યજ્ઞ અર્પણ આપવા આવ્યો છુઁ. તમે બધા તમાંરી જાતને શુદ્ધ કરો અને માંરી સાથે યજ્ઞ અર્પણ માંટે આવો.” તેણે તેની જાતે યશાઇ અને તેના પુત્રોને તૈયાર કર્યો અને તેમને યજ્ઞ અર્પણ માંટે આમંત્રિત કર્યાં
5He said, Peaceably; I am come to sacrifice to Yahweh: sanctify yourselves, and come with me to the sacrifice. He sanctified Jesse and his sons, and called them to the sacrifice.
6તેઓ આવ્યા એટલે અલીઆબને જોઈને શમુએલને વિચાર આવ્યો કે, “જરૂર, યહોવાનો પસંદ કરેલો માંણસ એની સમક્ષ આવ્યો છે.”
6It happened, when they had come, that he looked at Eliab, and said, Surely Yahweh's anointed is before him.
7પણ યહોવાએ શમુએલને કહ્યું, “એનો દેખાવ અને ઊંચાઈ જોઈને તેને ધ્યાનમાં ન લો, કારણ હું તેનો અસ્વીકાર કરું છુ. યહોવાની દૃષ્ટિ અને માંનવની દૃષ્ટિમાં તફાવત હોય છે. માંણસો બાહ્ય દેખાવ જુએ છે, પરંતુ યહોવા માંણસના અંતર અને ભાવનાઓને જુએ છે.”
7But Yahweh said to Samuel, "Don't look on his face, or on the height of his stature; because I have rejected him: for Yahweh sees not as man sees; for man looks at the outward appearance, but Yahweh looks at the heart."
8પછી યશાઇએ અબીનાદાબને બોલાવીને શમુએલની આગળ રજૂ કર્યો. અને શમુએલે કહ્યું, “ના, યહોવાએ તેને પસંદ કર્યો નથી.”
8Then Jesse called Abinadab, and made him pass before Samuel. He said, Neither has Yahweh chosen this.
9પછી યશાઇ શામ્માંહને લાવ્યો, પણ શમુએલે કહ્યું: “નહિ, યહોવાએ તેને પસંદ કર્યો નથી.”
9Then Jesse made Shammah to pass by. He said, Neither has Yahweh chosen this.
10યશાઇએ પોતાના સાતે પુત્રોને શમુએલ આગળ રજૂ કર્યા. પણ તેણે કહ્યું, “આમાંના એકે ય ને યહોવાએ પસંદ કર્યો નથી.”
10Jesse made seven of his sons to pass before Samuel. Samuel said to Jesse, Yahweh has not chosen these.
11પછી શમુએલે યશાઇને પૂછયુ, “શું તારે આ સાત પુત્રો જ છે?” યશાઇએ ઉત્તર આપ્યો, “હજી સૌથી નાનો બાકી છે, પણ તે ઘેટાં અને પ્રાણીઓ ચરાવવા ગયો છે.”તેથી શમુએલે યશાઇને કહ્યું, “તેને બોલાવવા માંટે મોકલો, અને તેને લાવો, તે ન આવે ત્યાં સુધી આપણે ભોજન નહિ કરીએ.”
11Samuel said to Jesse, Are here all your children? He said, There remains yet the youngest, and, behold, he is keeping the sheep. Samuel said to Jesse, Send and get him; for we will not sit down until he come here.
12એટલે યશાઇએ તેને લાવવા માંણસ મોકલ્યો, તે દેખાવે રૂપાળો હતો, તેનો ચહેરો લાલ અને આંખો તેજસ્વી હતી.યહોવાએ કહ્યું, “તે પસંદ કરાયેલો છે. ઊઠ, અને એનો અભિષેક કર.”
12He sent, and brought him in. Now he was ruddy, and withal of a beautiful face, and goodly to look on. Yahweh said, Arise, anoint him; for this is he.
13શમુએલે તેલનું શીગડું લઈને તેનો તેના ભાઈઓના દેખતાં અભિષેક કર્યો. પછી યહોવાના આત્માંએ દાઉદમાં સંચાર કર્યો અને તે દિવસથી તેના ભેગો રહ્યો. શમુએલ પછી તેની જગ્યાએ પાછો ગયો.
13Then Samuel took the horn of oil, and anointed him in the midst of his brothers: and the Spirit of Yahweh came mightily on David from that day forward. So Samuel rose up, and went to Ramah.
14હવે યહોવાનો આત્માં શાઉલ પાસેથી જતો રહ્યો હતો, અને યહોવાનો મોકલાયેલો કોઈ દુષ્ટ આત્માં તેને સતાવતો હતો.
14Now the Spirit of Yahweh departed from Saul, and an evil spirit from Yahweh troubled him.
15શાઉલના સેવકોએ તેને કહ્યું, “સ્વામી, જોયું ને, દેવનો પ્રેર્યો કોઈ દુષ્ટ આત્માં આપને કેવો સતાવે છે?
15Saul's servants said to him, See now, an evil spirit from God troubles you.
16જો તમે આજ્ઞા આપો તો અમે સારો વીણાવાદક શોધી કાઢીએ. તમાંરા પર ત્રાસદાયક આત્માં આવે ત્યારે તે વીણા વગાડે; અને તેથી તમને શાંતિ થશે.”
16Let our lord now command your servants who are before you, to seek out a man who is a skillful player on the harp: and it shall happen, when the evil spirit from God is on you, that he shall play with his hand, and you shall be well.
17શાઉલે સેવકોને કહ્યું, “કોઈ કુશળ બજવૈયાને શોધી કાઢો અને માંરી પાસે લઈ આવો.”
17Saul said to his servants, Provide me now a man who can play well, and bring him to me.
18તેમાંના એક સેવકે કહ્યું, “મેં બેથલેહેમના યશાઇના એક પુત્રને જોયો છે. તે વગાડવામાં કુશળ છે, ને બહાદુર અને બહુ કુશળ છે, તે દેખાવડો પણ છે અને યહોવા દેવ તેની સાથે છે.”
18Then answered one of the young men, and said, Behold, I have seen a son of Jesse the Bethlehemite, who is skillful in playing, and a mighty man of valor, and a man of war, and prudent in speech, and a comely person; and Yahweh is with him.
19તેથી શાઉલે યશાઇને વિનંતી કરતાં માંણસો મોકલ્યાં, “તમાંરા પુત્ર દાઉદને મોકલો જે માંરા ઘેંટા ચારે છે.”
19Therefore Saul sent messengers to Jesse, and said, Send me David your son, who is with the sheep.
20ત્યારે યશાઇએ રોટલી, દ્રાક્ષારસની એક કૂંડી તથા બકરાનું એક બચ્ચુ એક ગધેડાં પર લાદીને પોતાના પુત્ર સાથે શાઉલને મોકલાવ્યાં જેથી તે રાજી થાય.
20Jesse took a donkey loaded with bread, and a bottle of wine, and a kid, and sent them by David his son to Saul.
21દાઉદ શાઉલ પાસે આવ્યો, ને તેની સન્મુખ ઊભો રહ્યો. તેને જોતાં જ તેના પર તેને ખૂબ પ્રેમભાવ જાગ્યો; અને તેને તેનો શસ્ત્ર વાહક બનાવ્યો.
21David came to Saul, and stood before him: and he loved him greatly; and he became his armor bearer.
22એટલે શાઉલે યશાઇને સંદેશો મોકલ્યો કે, “દાઉદને માંરી સેવામાં રહેવા દે, કારણ હું એના ઉપર પ્રસન્ન છું.”
22Saul sent to Jesse, saying, Please let David stand before me; for he has found favor in my sight.
23અને જયારે જયારે દેવનો પ્રેર્યો કોઈ દુષ્ટ આત્માં શાઉલમાં પ્રવેશ કરતો ત્યારે દાઉદ વીણા લઈને વગાડતો, એટલે શાઉલને આરામ અને શાંતિ થઇ જતી. દુષ્ટ આત્માં ત્યારે તેને છોડી દેતો અને તે બરાબર થઇ જતો.
23It happened, when the evil spirit from God was on Saul, that David took the harp, and played with his hand: so Saul was refreshed, and was well, and the evil spirit departed from him.
