1અરામના રાજા બેન-હદાદે પોતાનું બધું લશ્કર ભેગું કર્યું અને બત્રીસ રાજાઓને તથા ઘણા ઘોડાઓ અને ઘોડાના રથોને પોતાની સાથે લીધાં. તેણે સમરૂનને ઘેરી લઈ તેના પર હુમલો કર્યો.
1Ben Hadad the king of Syria gathered all his host together; and there were thirty-two kings with him, and horses and chariots: and he went up and besieged Samaria, and fought against it.
2તેણે ઇસ્રાએલના રાજા આહાબને જે નગરમાં હતો તેને સંદેશવાહક મોકલ્યો,
2He sent messengers to Ahab king of Israel, into the city, and said to him, Thus says Ben Hadad,
3“સંદેશો આ પ્રમાંણે હતો બેન-હદાદ કહે છે, ‘તારાં સોના ચાંદી માંરાં છે, તારી સ્રીઓ માંરી છે, તારા સંતાનો માંરાં છે, અને દરેક સારી વસ્તુ જે તારી પાસે છે તે માંરી છે!”‘
3Your silver and your gold is mine; your wives also and your children, even the best, are mine.
4ઇસ્રાએલના રાજાએ જવાબ આપ્યો, “જેવી આપની આજ્ઞા, માંરા ધણી, હું અને માંરી પાસે જે બધું છે તે સર્વસ્વ આપના જ છે.”
4The king of Israel answered, It is according to your saying, my lord, O king; I am yours, and all that I have.
5સંદેશવાહકો પાછા આવ્યા અને કહ્યું “બેન-હદાદ કહે છે કે, ‘તમાંરું સોનું, ચાંદી, સ્રીઓ, અને સંતાનો મને આપી દો.
5The messengers came again, and said, Thus speaks Ben Hadad, saying, I sent indeed to you, saying, You shall deliver me your silver, and your gold, and your wives, and your children;
6હવે આવતી કાલે આ વખતે હું માંરા અમલદારોને તારા ઘર અને તારા અમલદારોના ઘરોને તપાસવા મોકલીશ અને તેઓ તેમને જે કાંઈ ગમશે તે બધું તેઓ ઝૂંટવી લેશે.”‘
6but I will send my servants to you tomorrow about this time, and they shall search your house, and the houses of your servants; and it shall be, that whatever is pleasant in your eyes, they shall put it in their hand, and take it away.
7ઇસ્રાએલના રાજાએ દેશના બધા વડીલોને તથા પ્રદેશના અગ્રણીઓને તેડાવી મંગાવ્યા અને કહ્યું, “જોયું ને! આ માંણસ મને મુશ્કેલીમાં મૂકી રહ્યો છે! એણે માંરી પાસે માંરી સ્રીઓ, બાળકો, સોનું અને ચાંદી માંગ્યાં અને મેં ના નહોતી પાડી.”
7Then the king of Israel called all the elders of the land, and said, Please notice how this man seeks mischief: for he sent to me for my wives, and for my children, and for my silver, and for my gold; and I didn't deny him.
8બધા જ વડીલો-અગ્રણીઓ અને લોકો-સેનાએ સલાહ આપી, “તારે તેના કહેવા પર ધ્યાન આપવું નહિ અને તેની માંગણી પૂરી કરવી નહિ.”
8All the elders and all the people said to him, Don't you listen, neither consent.
9તેથી આહાબે બેન-હદાદના સંદેશવાહકોને જણાવ્યું, “માંરા ધણી માંરા રાજાને કહેજો કે, પહેલી વારની માંગણી પ્રમાંણેનું હું બધું જ આપીશ. પણ હું તમાંરી બીજી માંગણી સાથે સહમત થતો નથી” પછી સંદેશવાહકો બેન-હદાદ પાસે પાછા ગયા.
9Therefore he said to the messengers of Ben Hadad, Tell my lord the king, All that you did send for to your servant at the first I will do; but this thing I may not do. The messengers departed, and brought him word again.
10ત્યાર બાદ બેન-હદાદે તેને એવો સંદેશો મોકલ્યો કે, “સમરૂનનો હું એવો સંપૂર્ણપણે નાશ કરીશ કે માંરા સેનાના દરેક માંણસ માંટે ભેગી કરવા એક મુઠ્ઠી ધૂળ પણ નહિ મળે. જો હું આમ નહિ કરું તો, કદાચ મને દેવતાઓ ખૂબ નુકસાન પહોચાડે.”
10Ben Hadad sent to him, and said, The gods do so to me, and more also, if the dust of Samaria shall suffice for handfuls for all the people who follow me.
11પણ ઇસ્રાએલના રાજાએ જવાબ મોકલ્યો કે, “યુદ્ધ પૂરુ થયા પહેલા તેના પરિણામની બડાશ કરો નહિ.”
11The king of Israel answered, Tell him, Don't let him who girds on his armor boast himself as he who puts it off.
12જયારે બેન-હદાદને આ સંદેશો મળ્યો ત્યારે તે બીજા રાજાઓ સાથે સુકોથમાં દ્રાક્ષારસ પીતો હતો, તેણે પોતાના માંણસોને કહ્યું, “જાવ અને શહેર પર હુમલો કરો.” અને તેમણે તે પ્રમાંણે કર્યું.
12It happened, when Ben Hadad heard this message, as he was drinking, he and the kings, in the pavilions, that he said to his servants, Set yourselves in array. They set themselves in array against the city.
13એટલામાં પ્રબોધકોમાંનો એક ઇસ્રાએલના રાજા આહાબની પાસે આવ્યો અને બોલ્યો, “આ યહોવાની વાણી છે; ‘તેં આ મોટી સેના જોઈ? આજે હું તમને તેઓ પર જીત અપાવીશ, અંતમાં તને ખબર પડશે કે, હું યહોવા છું.”‘
13Behold, a prophet came near to Ahab king of Israel, and said, Thus says Yahweh, Have you seen all this great multitude? behold, I will deliver it into your hand this day; and you shall know that I am Yahweh.
14આહાબે પૂછયું, “કોની માંરફતે?”પ્રબોધકે કહ્યું, “આ યહોવાનાં વચન છે: ‘જેઓ પ્રાંતના આગેવાનોની સેવા કરે છે તે યુવાનો માંરફતે.”‘ આહાબે પૂછયું, “યુદ્ધ કોણ શરૂ કરશે?” પ્રબોધકે કહ્યું, “તું”
14Ahab said, By whom? He said, Thus says Yahweh, By the young men of the princes of the provinces. Then he said, Who shall begin the battle? He answered, You.
15પછી આહાબે યુવાનો કે જે પ્રાંતના આગેવાનોની સેવા કરતા હતા તેમને ભેગા કર્યા, તેઓ 232 જણા હતા, પછી આહાબે આખી ઇસ્રાએલી સેનાને હાજર થવા કહ્યું, બધાં મળીને ત્યાં 7,000 સૈનિકો હતાં.
15Then he mustered the young men of the princes of the provinces, and they were two hundred and thirty-two: and after them he mustered all the people, even all the children of Israel, being seven thousand.
16તેઓએ ખરે બપોરે કૂચ કરી ત્યારે બેન-હદાદ તેના તંબૂમાં તેના 32 રાજાઓ સાથે જેઓએ તેની સાથે જોડાણ કર્યુ હતું તેમની સાથે દ્રાક્ષારસ પીવામાં ચકચૂર હતો.
16They went out at noon. But Ben Hadad was drinking himself drunk in the pavilions, he and the kings, the thirty-two kings who helped him.
17યુવાનો જેમણે ઇસ્રાએલના પ્રાંતના આગેવાનોની સેવા કરી હતી તેઓ રસ્તાની આગળ હતા. બેન-હદાદને ખબર આપવામાં આવી કે, “કેટલાક માંણસો સમરૂનમાંથી: આવ્યા છે.”
17The young men of the princes of the provinces went out first; and Ben Hadad sent out, and they told him, saying, There are men come out from Samaria.
18તેણે કહ્યું “તેઓ શરણે થવા આવ્યા હોય કે લડવા આવ્યા હોય, તેઓને જીવતા પકડી લો.”
18He said, Whether they are come out for peace, take them alive, or whether they are come out for war, taken them alive.
19પરંતુ યુવાનો જે ઇસ્રાએલના પ્રાંતના આગેવાનોની સેવા કરતા હતા, તેઓ નગરમાંથી પાછા ફરી ગયાં હતાં. અને સેના તેની પાછળ હતી.
19So these went out of the city, the young men of the princes of the provinces, and the army which followed them.
20પ્રત્યેકે પોતાના સામાંવાળાને માંરી નાખ્યો. અરામીઓ ભાગવા લાગ્યા અને ઇસ્રાએલીઓએ તેમનો પીછો પકડયો. અરામનો રાજા બેન-હદાદ કેટલાક ઘોડેસ્વારો સાથે ઘોડા પર છટકી ગયો.
20They killed everyone his man; and the Syrians fled, and Israel pursued them: and Ben Hadad the king of Syria escaped on a horse with horsemen.
21પછી ઇસ્રાએલીઓના રાજાએ બહાર આવીને ઘોડાઓ અને રથો કબજે કર્યા, અને અરામીઓને સખત હાર આપી.
21The king of Israel went out, and struck the horses and chariots, and killed the Syrians with a great slaughter.
22પછી પ્રબોધકે ઇસ્રાએલના રાજા પાસે જઈને કંહ્યું, “તું તારું બળ વધારજે, અને સાવધ રહેજે, અને જે કંઈ કરે તે વિચારીને કરજે, કારણ, આવતે વરસે વસંતના સમયે અરામનો રાજા તારા પર હુમલો કરશે.”
22The prophet came near to the king of Israel, and said to him, Go, strengthen yourself, and mark, and see what you do; for at the return of the year the king of Syria will come up against you.
23તેના પરાજય પછી બેન-હદાદના લશ્કરના વડાઓએ તેને કહ્યું, “ઇસ્રાએલના દેવ તો પર્વતોના દેવ છે, તેથી તેઓ જીતી ગયા છે. સપાટ મેદાનોમાં યુદ્ધ થાય તો પછી આપણે જીતી શકીએ.
23The servants of the king of Syria said to him, Their god is a god of the hills; therefore they were stronger than we: but let us fight against them in the plain, and surely we shall be stronger than they.
24તે સમયે તમાંરે આટલું કરવું જોઈએ, આ બધા રાજાઓને તેના હોદૃાઓ પરથી હટાવી દો અને તેના બદલે પ્રશાસકની નિંમણૂંક કરો.
24Do this thing: take the kings away, every man out of his place, and put captains in their room;
25“તમે જે લશ્કર ગુમાંવ્યું છે તેવું બીજું ઊભું કરો, પહેલાના જેટલાં ઘોડા અને રથો તૈયાર કરો, એ પછી જો આપણે તેમની સાથે સપાટ મેદાનમાં લડીશું, તો જરૂર આપણે તેમને હરાવીશું.” બેન-હદાદે તેમની સલાહ માંની અને તે પ્રમાંણે જ કર્યું.
25and number you an army, like the army that you have lost, horse for horse, and chariot for chariot; and we will fight against them in the plain, and surely we shall be stronger than they. He listened to their voice, and did so.
26બીજે વષેર્ વસંતના સમયે તેણે અરામીઓનું લશ્કર ભેગું કરીને ઇસ્રાએલીઓ સાથે લડવા અફેક પર કૂચ કરી.
26It happened at the return of the year, that Ben Hadad mustered the Syrians, and went up to Aphek, to fight against Israel.
27ઇસ્રાએલીઓ પણ લડવા ભેગા થયા. તેઓએ બખ્તર અને બીજા હથિયારો સાથે લીધાં અને અરામીઓનો સામનો કરવા નીકળી પડયા અને તેમની સામે પડાવ નાખ્યો. ઇસ્રાએલીઓ તો બકરાનાં બે ટોળાં જેવાં લાગતા હતાં અને અરામીઓ તો સમગ્ર પ્રદેશમાં ફેલાઇ ગયા હતા.
27The children of Israel were mustered, and were provisioned, and went against them: and the children of Israel encamped before them like two little flocks of kids; but the Syrians filled the country.
28દેવના એક માંણસે આવીને ઇસ્રાએલના રાજાને કહ્યું, “આ યહોવાનાં વચન છે; ‘અરામીઓ એવું માંને છે કે, યહોવા તો પર્વતોના દેવ છે. કાંઇ ખીણોના દેવ નથી, આથી હું તમને આ મહાન સૈન્ય તમાંરા હાથમાં સુપ્રત કરીશ, જેથી તમને ખાતરી થશે કે હું યહોવા છું.”‘
28A man of God came near and spoke to the king of Israel, and said, Thus says Yahweh, Because the Syrians have said, Yahweh is a god of the hills, but he is not a god of the valleys; therefore will I deliver all this great multitude into your hand, and you shall know that I am Yahweh.
29સાત દિવસ સુધી તેઓ સામસામે છાવણી નાખીને પડી રહ્યાં. સાતમાં દિવસ પછી યુદ્ધ શરૂ થયું અને ઇસ્રાએલીઓએ એક જ દિવસમાં ફોજના 1,00,000 અરામી પાયદળના સૈનિકોને કાપી નાખ્યા.
29They encamped one over against the other seven days. So it was, that in the seventh day the battle was joined; and the children of Israel killed of the Syrians one hundred thousand footmen in one day.
30બીજા સૈનિકો અફેકના નગરમાં ભાગી ગયા પરંતુ તેઓ જેવા દાખલ થયા નગરની દીવાલ તૂટી ગઇ, જેમાં તેઓમાંનાં 27,000 માંર્યા ગયા. બેન-હદાદે ભાગી જઈને શહેરમાં એક અંદરના હિસ્સામાં આશ્રય લીધો હતો.
30But the rest fled to Aphek, into the city; and the wall fell on twenty-seven thousand men who were left. Ben Hadad fled, and came into the city, into an inner chamber.
31તેના અમલદારોએ તેને કહ્યું, “જુઓ, અમે સાંભળ્યુ છે, કે ઇસ્રાએલના રાજાઓ દયાળુ હોય છે. આપણે શોકના વસ્રો પહેરીએ અને માંથા પર દોરડાં વીટીં ઇસ્રાએલના રાજા પાસે જઈએ, કદાચ તે આપણને માંફી અને જીવનદાન આપે.”
31His servants said to him, See now, we have heard that the kings of the house of Israel are merciful kings: let us, we pray you, put sackcloth on our loins, and ropes on our heads, and go out to the king of Israel: peradventure he will save your life.
32આથી તેઓએ શોકના વસ્રો પહેર્યા અને માંથા પર દોરડાં બાંધીને ઇસ્રાએલના રાજા પાસે જઈને તેને કહ્યું, “આપના સેવક બેન-હદાદ કહેવડાવે છે, મહેરબાની કરીને મને જીવનદાન આપો.” તેણે જવાબ આપ્યો, “શું તે હજી જીવતો છે? તે તો માંરો ભાઈ છે.”
32So they girded sackcloth on their loins, and put ropes on their heads, and came to the king of Israel, and said, Your servant Ben Hadad says, please let me live. He said, Is he yet alive? he is my brother.
33બેન-હદાદના માંણસોએ આને શુભ શુકન માંની લઈ તરત જ તેના શબ્દો પકડી લઈ કહ્યું, “જી, બેન-હદાદ આપના ભાઈ છે.”આહાબે કહ્યું, “જાઓ, તેને લઈ આવો.”પછી બેન-હદાદ બહાર આવ્યો અને આહાબે તેને પોતાના રથમાં બેસાડ્યો.
33Now the men observed diligently, and hurried to catch whether it were his mind; and they said, Your brother Ben Hadad. Then he said, Go you , bring him. Then Ben Hadad came forth to him; and he caused him to come up into the chariot.
34બેન-હદાદે કહ્યું, “માંરા પિતાએ તમાંરા પિતા પાસેથી લઈ લીધેલાં શહેરો હું પાછાં આપીશ, અને માંરા પિતાએ જેમ સમરૂનમાં બજાર ખોલ્યાં હતાં તેમ તમે દમસ્કમાં ખોલજો.”આહાબે કહ્યું, “હું તમને આ શરતો પર જવા દઇશ.” આથી આહાબે તેની સાથે શાંતિકરાર કર્યા અને તેને મુકત કર્યો.
34Ben Hadad said to him, The cities which my father took from your father I will restore; and you shall make streets for you in Damascus, as my father made in Samaria. I, said Ahab, will let you go with this covenant. So he made a covenant with him, and let him go.
35યહોવાની આજ્ઞાઓથી યુવાન પ્રબોધકોમાંથી એકે પોતાના એક સાથીને કહ્યું. “કૃપા કરીને મને માંર.” પણ પેલા માંણસે તેમ કરવાની ના પાડી,
35A certain man of the sons of the prophets said to his fellow by the word of Yahweh, Please strike me. The man refused to strike him.
36એટલે તેણે તેને કહ્યું, તેં યહોવાની આજ્ઞાનું ઉલ્લંઘન કર્યુ છે, તેથી તું માંરી પાસેથી જશે તે જ ક્ષણે એક સિંહ તને માંરી નાખશે.” અને તે માંણસ ગયો કે તરત જ તેને એક સિંહ મળ્યો અને તેણે તેને માંરી નાખ્યો.
36Then said he to him, Because you have not obeyed the voice of Yahweh, behold, as soon as you are departed from me, a lion shall kill you. As soon as he was departed from him, a lion found him, and killed him.
37ત્યાર બાદ પેલા યુવાન પ્રબોધક બીજા માંણસને મળ્યો અને તેને કહ્યું, “કૃપા કરીને મને માંર.”અને તે માંણસે તેને માંર્યો અને ઘાયલ કર્યો.
37Then he found another man, and said, Please strike me. The man struck him, smiting and wounding him.
38પછી તે પ્રબોધક ત્યાંથી ચાલ્યો ગયો અને આંખો પર પાટો બાંધ્યો પોતાની જાતને છુપાવી દીધી અને રસ્તા પર જઈને રાજાના આવવાની રાહ જોતો બેઠો.
38So the prophet departed, and waited for the king by the way, and disguised himself with his headband over his eyes.
39જ્યારે રાજા ત્યાંથી પસાર થયો એટલે તેણે તેને બૂમ પાડીને કહ્યું, “હું યુદ્ધની વચ્ચોવચ્ચ જતો હતો એવામાં એક યોદ્ધાએ એક કેદીને લઈને માંરી પાસે આવીને કહ્યું, ‘આ માંણસને સંભાળ, એ જો ભાગી ગયો તો એને બદલે તારે તારો જીવ આપવો પડશે અથવા 34 કિલો ચાંદી આપવી પડશે.’
39As the king passed by, he cried to the king; and he said, Your servant went out into the midst of the battle; and, behold, a man turned aside, and brought a man to me, and said, Keep this man: if by any means he be missing, then shall your life be for his life, or else you shall pay a talent of silver.
40પણ હું કોઈને કોઈ કામમાં રોકાયેલો હતો, એવામાં તે અદૃશ્ય થઈ ગયો.”ઇસ્રાએલના રાજાએ કહ્યું, “તને એ જ સજા થવી જોઈએ. તેં જાતે જ ફેંસલો આપ્યો છે.”
40As your servant was busy here and there, he was gone. The king of Israel said to him, So shall your judgment be; yourself have decided it.
41તરત જ યુવાન પ્રબોધકે આંખ પર બાંધેલો પાટો છોડી નાખ્યો અને ઇસ્રાએલના રાજાએ તેને ઓળખી કાઢયો કે, આ તો પ્રબોધક છે.
41He hurried, and took the headband away from his eyes; and the king of Israel discerned him that he was of the prophets.
42તેણે રાજાને કહ્યું, “આ યહોવાના વચન છે, ‘મેં તને બેનહદાદ પર વિજય અપાવ્યો જેથી તું તેને માંરી નાખેે, પણ તેં તેને જીવતો છોડ્યો. તેથી તે માંણસના બદલામાં તું મરી જશે અને તારા સૈનિકો મરી જશે તેેના સૈનિકોના બદલે.”‘
42He said to him, Thus says Yahweh, Because you have let go out of your hand the man whom I had devoted to destruction, therefore your life shall go for his life, and your people for his people.
43ઇસ્રાએલનો રાજા ઉદાસ અને ગુસ્સે થઈને ઘેર જવા નીકળ્યો અને સમરૂન આવી પહોંચ્યો.
43The king of Israel went to his house sullen and angry, and came to Samaria.
