লমূয়েল রাজার কথা। তাঁহার মাতা তাঁহাকে এই ভারবাণী শিক্ষা দিয়াছিলেন।

The words of king Lemuel; the oracle which his mother taught him.
2
হে বৎস, কি বলিব? হে আমার গর্ভের সন্তান, কি বলিব। হে আমার মানতের পুত্র, কি বলিব?

"Oh, my son!" Oh, son of my womb! Oh, son of my vows!
3
তুমি নারীগণকে আপন শক্তি দিও না, যাহা রাজগণের বিনাশক, তাহাতে লিপ্ত হইও না।

Don't give your strength to women, Nor your ways to that which destroys kings.
4
রাজগণের জন্য, হে লমূয়েল, রাজগণের জন্য মদ্যপান উপযুক্ত নয়, ‘সুরা কোথায়?’ [বলা] শাসনকর্ত্তাদের অনুচিত।

It is not for kings, Lemuel; It is not for kings to drink wine; Nor for princes to say, 'Where is strong drink?'

পাছে পান করিয়া তাঁহারা বিধি বিস্মৃত হন, এবং কোন দুঃখীর বিচার বিপরীত করেন।

Lest they drink, and forget the law, And pervert the justice due to anyone who is afflicted.

মৃতকল্প ব্যক্তিকে সুরা দেও, তিক্তপ্রাণ লোককে দ্রাক্ষারস দেও;

Give strong drink to him who is ready to perish; And wine to the bitter in soul:
7
সে পান করিয়া দৈন্যদশা ভুলিয়া যাউক, আপন দুর্দ্দশা আর মনে না করুক।
7
Let him drink, and forget his poverty, And remember his misery no more.
8
তুমি বোবাদিগের জন্য তোমার মুখ খোল, অনাথ সকলের জন্য খোল।
8
Open your mouth for the mute, In the cause of all who are left desolate.
9
তোমার মুখ খোল, ন্যায় বিচার কর, দুঃখী ও দরিদ্রের বিচার কর।
9
Open your mouth, judge righteously, And serve justice to the poor and needy."
10
গুণবতী স্ত্রী কে পাইতে পারে? মুক্তা হইতেও তাঁহার মূল্য অনেক অধিক।

Who can find a worthy woman? For her price is far above rubies.
11
তাঁহার স্বামীর হৃদয় তাঁহাতে নির্ভর করে, স্বামীর লাভের অভাব হয় না।
11
The heart of her husband trusts in her. He shall have no lack of gain.
12
তিনি জীবনের সমস্ত দিন তাঁহার উপকার করেন, অপকার করেন না।

She does him good, and not harm, All the days of her life.
13
তিনি মেষলোম ও মসীনা অন্বেষণ করেন, প্রফুল্লভাবে আপন হস্তে কর্ম্ম করেন।

She seeks wool and flax, And works eagerly with her hands.
14
তিনি বাণিজ্য-জাহাজসমূহের ন্যায়, তিনি দূর হইতে আপন খাদ্যসামগ্রী আনয়ন করেন।
14
She is like the merchant ships. She brings her bread from afar.
15
তিনি রাত্রি থাকিতে উঠেন, আর নিজ পরিজনদিগকে খাদ্য দেন, নিজ দাসীদিগকে নিরূপিত কর্ম্ম দেন।

She rises also while it is yet night, Gives food to her household, And portions for her servant girls.
16
তিনি ক্ষেত্রের বিষয়ে সঙ্কল্প করিয়া তাহা ক্রয় করেন, স্বহস্তের ফল দিয়া দ্রাক্ষার উদ্যান প্রস্তুত করেন।

She considers a field, and buys it. With the fruit of her hands, she plants a vineyard.
17
তিনি বলে কটি বন্ধন করেন, আপন বাহুযুগল বলশালী করেন।

She girds her loins with strength, And makes her arms strong.
18
তিনি দেখিতে পান, তাঁহার ব্যবসায় উত্তম, রাত্রিতে তাঁহার দীপ নির্ব্বাণ হয় না।
18
She perceives that her merchandise is profitable. Her lamp doesn't go out by night.
19
তিনি টেকুয়া লইতে আপন হস্ত প্রসারণ করেন, তাঁহার করদ্বয় পাঁজ ধরে।
19
She lays her hands to the distaff, And her hands hold the spindle.
20
তিনি দরিদ্রের প্রতি মুক্তহস্ত হন, দীনহীনের প্রতি হস্ত প্রসারণ করেন।
20
She opens her arms to the poor; Yes, she extends her hands to the needy.
21
তিনি নিজ পরিবারের বিষয়ে তুষার হইতে ভয় পান না; কারণ তাঁহার সমস্ত পরিজন লাল বস্ত্র পরিধান করে।
21
She is not afraid of the snow for her household; For all her household are clothed with scarlet.
22
তিনি আপনার জন্য বুটাদার চাদর নির্ম্মাণ করেন, তাঁহার পরিচ্ছদ শুভ্র মসীনা-বস্ত্রও বেগুনে বস্ত্র।

She makes for herself carpets of tapestry. Her clothing is fine linen and purple.
23
তাঁহার স্বামী নগর-দ্বারে প্রসিদ্ধ হন, যখন দেশের প্রাচীনবর্গের সহিত বসেন।

Her husband is respected in the gates, When he sits among the elders of the land.
24
তিনি সূক্ষ্ম বস্ত্র প্রস্তুত করিয়া বিক্রয় করেন, বণিকের হস্তে কটিবস্ত্র সমর্পণ করেন।

She makes linen garments and sells them, And delivers sashes to the merchant.
25
বল ও সমাদর তাঁহার পরিচ্ছদ; তিনি ভবিষ্যৎকালের বিষয়ে হাস্য করেন।
25
Strength and dignity are her clothing. She laughs at the time to come.
26
তিনি প্রজ্ঞার সহিত মুখ খোলেন, তাঁহার জিহ্বাগ্রে দয়ার ব্যবস্থা থাকে।

She opens her mouth with wisdom. Faithful instruction is on her tongue.
27
তিনি আপন পরিবারের আচরণের প্রতি লক্ষ্য রাখেন, তিনি আলস্যের খাদ্য খান না।
27
She looks well to the ways of her household, And doesn't eat the bread of idleness.
28
তাঁহার সন্তানগণ উঠিয়া তাঁহাকে ধন্য বলে; তাঁহার স্বামীও বলেন, আর তাঁহার এইরূপ প্রশংসা করেন,—

Her children rise up and call her blessed. Her husband also praises her:

“অনেক মেয়ে গুণবত্তা প্রদর্শন করিয়াছে, কিন্তু তাহাদের মধ্যে সর্ব্বাপেক্ষা তুমি শ্রেষ্ঠা।”

"Many women do noble things, But you excel them all."
30
লাবণ্য মিথ্যা, সৌন্দর্য্য অসার, কিন্তু যে স্ত্রী সদাপ্রভুকে ভয় করেন, তিনিই প্রশংসনীয়া।
30
Charm is deceitful, and beauty is vain; But a woman who fears Yahweh, she shall be praised.
31
তোমরা তাঁহার হস্তের ফল তাঁহাকে দেও, নগর-দ্বারসমূহে তাঁহার ক্রিয়া তাঁহার প্রশংসা করুক।
31
Give her of the fruit of her hands! Let her works praise her in the gates!
