1যেমন গ্রীষ্মকালে তুষার ও শস্যচ্ছেদনকালে বৃষ্টি, তেমনি হীনবুদ্ধির পক্ষে সম্মান অনুপযুক্ত।
1Like snow in summer, and as rain in harvest, So honor is not fitting for a fool.
2যেমন চটক ভ্রমণ করে, তালচোঁচ উড়িতে থাকে, তেমনি অকারণে দত্ত শাপ নিকটে আইসে না।
2Like a fluttering sparrow, Like a darting swallow, So the undeserved curse doesn't come to rest.
3ঘোড়ার জন্য চাবুক, গাধার জন্য বল্‌গা, আর হীনবুদ্ধিদের পৃষ্ঠের জন্য দণ্ড।
3A whip for the horse, A bridle for the donkey, And a rod for the back of fools!
4হীনবুদ্ধিকে তাহার অজ্ঞানতা অনুসারে উত্তর দিও না, পাছে তুমিও তাহার সদৃশ হও।
4Don't answer a fool according to his folly, Lest you also be like him.
5হীনবুদ্ধিকে তাহার অজ্ঞানতা অনুসারে উত্তর দেও, পাছে সে নিজের দৃষ্টিতে জ্ঞানবান হয়।
5Answer a fool according to his folly, Lest he be wise in his own eyes.
6যে হীনবুদ্ধির হস্তে সমাচার প্রেরণ করে, সে নিজের পা কাটিয়া ফেলে ও ক্ষতিগ্রস্থ হয়।
6One who sends a message by the hand of a fool Is cutting off feet and drinking violence.
7খঞ্জের চরণ খোঁড়াইয়া চলে, হীনবুদ্ধিদের মুখে নীতিকথা তদ্রূপ।
7Like the legs of the lame that hang loose: So is a parable in the mouth of fools.
8যেমন প্রস্তররাশির মধ্যে মণির থলি, তেমনি সেই জন, যে হীনবুদ্ধিকে সম্মান প্রদান করে।
8As one who binds a stone in a sling, So is he who gives honor to a fool.
9মাতালের হাতে যে কাঁটা উঠে, তাহা যেমন, তেমনি হীনবুদ্ধিদের মুখে নীতিকথা।
9Like a thornbush that goes into the hand of a drunkard, So is a parable in the mouth of fools.
10যেমন ধনুর্দ্ধর সকলকে ক্ষতবিক্ষত করে, তেমনি সেই ব্যক্তি, যে হীনবুদ্ধিকে বেতন দেয়, আর যে পথের লোককে বেতন দেয়।
10As an archer who wounds all, So is he who hires a fool Or he who hires those who pass by.
11যেমন কুকুর আপন বমির প্রতি ফিরে, তেমনি হীনবুদ্ধি নিজ অজ্ঞানতার প্রতি ফিরে।
11As a dog that returns to his vomit, So is a fool who repeats his folly.
12তুমি কি নিজের দৃষ্টিতে জ্ঞানবান লোক দেখিতেছ? তাহা অপেক্ষা, বরং হীনবুদ্ধির বিষয়ে অধিক প্রত্যাশা আছে।
12Do you see a man wise in his own eyes? There is more hope for a fool than for him.
13অলস বলে, পথে সিংহ আছে, চৌরাস্তায় কেশরী থাকে।
13The sluggard says, "There is a lion in the road! A fierce lion roams the streets!"
14কব্জাতে যেমন কবাট ঘুরে, তেমনি অলস আপন খট্টায় ঘুরে।
14As the door turns on its hinges, So does the sluggard on his bed.
15অলস থালে হস্ত ডুবায়, পুনর্ব্বার মুখে তুলিতে তাহার ক্লেশ বোধ হয়।
15The sluggard buries his hand in the dish. He is too lazy to bring it back to his mouth.
16সুবিচারসিদ্ধ উত্তরকারী সাত জন অপেক্ষা অলস নিজের দৃষ্টিতে অধিক জ্ঞানবান।
16The sluggard is wiser in his own eyes Than seven men who answer with discretion.
17যে জন পথে যাইতে যাইতে আপনার অসম্পর্কীয় বিবাদে রুষ্ট হয়, সে কুকুরের কাণ ধরে।
17Like one who grabs a dog's ears Is one who passes by and meddles in a quarrel not his own.
18যে পাগল জ্বলন্ত বাণ নিক্ষেপ করে, তীর ও মৃত্যু নিক্ষেপ করে, সে যেমন,
18Like a madman who shoots firebrands, arrows, and death,
19তেমনি সেই ব্যক্তি, যে প্রতিবাসীকে প্রতারণা কর, আর বলে, আমি কি খেলা করিতেছি না?
19Is the man who deceives his neighbor and says, "Am I not joking?"
20কাষ্ঠ শেষ হইলে অগ্নি নিভিয়া যায়, কর্ণেজপ না থাকিলে বিবাদ নিবৃত্ত হয়।
20For lack of wood a fire goes out; Without gossip, a quarrel dies down.
21যেমন জ্বলন্ত অঙ্গারের পক্ষে অঙ্গার ও অগ্নির পক্ষে কাষ্ঠ, তেমনি বিবাদানল জ্বালাইবার পক্ষে বিবাদী।
21As coals are to hot embers, And wood to fire, So is a contentious man to kindling strife.
22কর্ণেজপের কথা মিষ্টান্নস্বরূপ, তাহা অন্তরের অন্তঃপুরে প্রবিষ্ট হয়।
22The words of a whisperer are as dainty morsels, They go down into the innermost parts.
23অনুরাগী ওষ্ঠাধর ও দুষ্ট হৃদয় খাদ-রৌপ্যে মণ্ডিত মৃৎপাত্রস্বরূপ।
23Like silver dross on an earthen vessel Are the lips of a fervent one with an evil heart.
24যে দ্বেষ করে, সে ওষ্ঠাধরে ভাণ করে, কিন্তু মনের মধ্যে ছল রাখে;
24A malicious man disguises himself with his lips, But he harbors evil in his heart.
25তাহার রব মধুময় হইলে তাহাকে বিশ্বাস করিও না, কারণ তাহার হৃদয়মধ্যে সাতটা ঘৃণার্হ বস্তু থাকে।
25When his speech is charming, don't believe him; For there are seven abominations in his heart:
26যদিও তাহার দ্বেষ কপটতায় আচ্ছন্ন, তাহার দুষ্টামি সমাজে প্রকাশিত হইবে।
26His malice may be concealed by deception, But his wickedness will be exposed in the assembly.
27যে খাত খোদে, সে তাহার মধ্যে পতিত হইবে; যে প্রস্তর গড়াইয়া দেয়, তাহারই উপরে তাহা ফিরিয়া আসিবে।
27Whoever digs a pit shall fall into it. Whoever rolls a stone, it will come back on him.
28মিথ্যাবাদী জিহ্বা যাহাদিগকে চূর্ণ করিয়াছে, তাহাদিগকে ঘৃণা করে; আর চাটুবাদী মুখ বিনাশ সাধন করে।
28A lying tongue hates those it hurts; And a flattering mouth works ruin.
