আর তিনি যাইতে যাইতে একটী লোককে দেখিতে পাইলেন, সে জন্মাবধি অন্ধ।

As he passed by, he saw a man blind from birth.
2
তাঁহার শিষ্যেরা তাঁহাকে জিজ্ঞাসা করিলেন, রব্বি, কে পাপ করিয়াছিল, এ ব্যক্তি, না ইহার পিতামাতা, যাহাতে এ অন্ধ হইয়া জন্মিয়াছে?

His disciples asked him, "Rabbi, who sinned, this man or his parents, that he was born blind?"

যীশু উত্তর করিলেন, পাপ এ করিয়াছে, কিম্বা ইহার পিতামাতা করিয়াছে, তাহা নয়; কিন্তু এই ব্যক্তিতে ঈশ্বরের কার্য্য যেন প্রকাশিত হয়, তাই এমন হইয়াছে।

Jesus answered, "Neither did this man sin, nor his parents; but, that the works of God might be revealed in him.

যতক্ষণ দিনমান ততক্ষণ, যিনি আমাকে পাঠাইয়াছেন, তাঁহার কার্য্য আমাদিগকে করিতে হইবে; রাত্রি আসিতেছে, তখন কেহ কার্য্য করিতে পারে না।

I must work the works of him who sent me, while it is day. The night is coming, when no one can work.

আমি যখন জগতে আছি, তখন জগতের জ্যোতি রহিয়াছি।

While I am in the world, I am the light of the world."

এই কথা বলিয়া তিনি ভূমিতে থুথু ফেলিয়া সেই থুথু দিয়া কাদা করিলেন; পরে ঐ ব্যক্তির চক্ষুতে সেই কাদা লেপন করিলেন ও তাহাকে কহিলেন,

When he had said this, he spat on the ground, made mud with the saliva, anointed the blind man's eyes with the mud,

শীলোহ সরোবরে যাও, ধুইয়া ফেল; অনুবাদ করিলে এই নামের অর্থ ‘প্রেরিত’। তখন সে গিয়া ধুইয়া ফেলিল, এবং দেখিতে দেখিতে আসিল।

and said to him, "Go, wash in the pool of Siloam" (which means "Sent"). So he went away, washed, and came back seeing.

তখন প্রতিবাসীরা, এবং যাহারা পূর্ব্বে তাহাকে দেখিয়াছিল যে, সে ভিক্ষা করিত, তাহারা বলিতে লাগিল, এ কি সেই নয়, যে বসিয়া ভিক্ষা চাহিত?

The neighbors therefore, and those who saw that he was blind before, said, "Isn't this he who sat and begged?"

কেহ কেহ বলিল, সেই বটে; আর কেহ কেহ বলিল, না, কিন্তু তাহারই মত; সে বলিল আমি সেই।

Others were saying, "It is he." Still others were saying, "He looks like him." He said, "I am he."
10
তখন তাহারা তাহাকে বলিল, তবে কি প্রকারে তোমার চক্ষু খুলিয়া গেল?

They therefore were asking him, "How were your eyes opened?"
11
সে উত্তর করিল, যীশু নামে সেই ব্যক্তি কাদা করিয়া আমার চক্ষুতে লেপন করিলেন, আর আমাকে বলিলেন, শীলোহে যাও, ধুইয়া ফেল; তাহাতে আমি গিয়া ধুইয়া ফেলিলে দৃষ্টি পাইলাম।

He answered, "A man called Jesus made mud, anointed my eyes, and said to me, 'Go to the pool of Siloam, and wash.' So I went away and washed, and I received sight."
12
তাহারা তাহাকে কহিল, সে ব্যক্তি কোথায়? সে বলিল, তাহা জানি না।
12
Then they asked him, "Where is he?" He said, "I don't know."
13
পূর্ব্বে যে অন্ধ ছিল, তাহাকে তাহারা ফরীশীদের নিকটে লইয়া গেল।

They brought him who had been blind to the Pharisees.
14
যে দিন যীশু কাদা করিয়া তাহার চক্ষু খুলিয়া দেন, সেই দিন বিশ্রামবার।

It was a Sabbath when Jesus made the mud and opened his eyes.
15
এই জন্য আবার ফরীশীরাও তাহাকে জিজ্ঞাসা করিতে লাগিল, কিরূপে দৃষ্টি পাইলে? সে তাহাদিগকে কহিল, তিনি আমার চক্ষের উপরে কাদা দিলেন, পরে আমি ধুইয়া ফেলিলাম, আর দেখিতে পাইতেছি।

Again therefore the Pharisees also asked him how he received his sight. He said to them, "He put mud on my eyes, I washed, and I see."
16
তখন কয়েক জন ফরীশী বলিল, সে ব্যক্তি ঈশ্বর হইতে আইসে নাই, কেননা সে বিশ্রামবার পালন করে না। আর কেহ কেহ বলিল, যে ব্যক্তি পাপী, সে কি প্রকারে এমন সকল চিহ্ন-কার্য্য করিতে পারে? এইরূপে তাহাদের মধ্যে মতভেদ হইল।

Some therefore of the Pharisees said, "This man is not from God, because he doesn't keep the Sabbath." Others said, "How can a man who is a sinner do such signs?" There was division among them.
17
পরে তাহারা পুনরায় সেই অন্ধকে কহিল, তুমি তাহার বিষয়ে কি বল? কারণ সে তোমারই চক্ষু খুলিয়া দিয়াছে।

Therefore they asked the blind man again, "What do you say about him, because he opened your eyes?" He said, "He is a prophet."
18
সে কহিল, তিনি ভাববাদী। যিহূদীরা তাহার বিষয়ে বিশ্বাস করিল না যে, সে অন্ধ ছিল আর দৃষ্টি পাইয়াছে, এই জন্য তাহারা ঐ দৃষ্টিপ্রাপ্ত ব্যক্তির পিতামাতাকে ডাকাইয়া তাহাদিগকে জিজ্ঞাসা করিল,

The Jews therefore did not believe concerning him, that he had been blind, and had received his sight, until they called the parents of him who had received his sight,
19
এ কি তোমাদের পুত্র, যাহার বিষয়ে তোমরা বলিয়া থাক, এ অন্ধই জন্মিয়াছিল? তবে এখন কি প্রকারে দেখিতে পাইতেছে?

and asked them, "Is this your son, who you say was born blind? How then does he now see?"
20
তাহার পিতামাতা উত্তর করিয়া কহিল, আমরা জানি, এ আমাদের পুত্র, এবং অন্ধই জন্মিয়াছিল,

His parents answered them, "We know that this is our son, and that he was born blind;
21
কিন্তু এখন কি প্রকারে দেখিতে পাইতেছে, তাহা জানি না, এবং কেই বা ইহার চক্ষু খুলিয়া দিয়াছে, তাহাও আমরা জানি না; ইহাকেই জিজ্ঞাসা করুন, এ বয়ঃপ্রাপ্ত, আপনার কথা আপনি বলিবে।
21
but how he now sees, we don't know; or who opened his eyes, we don't know. He is of age. Ask him. He will speak for himself."
22
তাহার পিতামাতা যিহূদীদিগকে ভয় করিত, সেই জন্য ইহা কহিল; কেননা যিহূদীরা পূর্ব্বেই স্থির করিয়াছিল, কেহ যদি তাঁহাকে খ্রীষ্ট বলিয়া স্বীকার করে, তাহা হইলে সে সমাজচ্যুত হইবে;

His parents said these things because they feared the Jews; for the Jews had already agreed that if any man would confess him as Christ, he would be put out of the synagogue.

এই কারণ তাহার পিতামাতা কহিল, এ বয়ঃপ্রাপ্ত, ইহাকেই জিজ্ঞাসা করুন।

Therefore his parents said, "He is of age. Ask him."
24
অতএব যে অন্ধ ছিল, তাহারা দ্বিতীয় বার তাহাকে ডাকিয়া কহিল, ঈশ্বরের গৌরব স্বীকার কর; আমরা জানি যে, সেই ব্যক্তি পাপী।

So they called the man who was blind a second time, and said to him, "Give glory to God. We know that this man is a sinner."
25
সে উত্তর করিল, তিনি পাপী কি না, তাহা জানি না, একটী বিষয় জানি, আমি অন্ধ ছিলাম, এখন দেখিতে পাইতেছি।

He therefore answered, "I don't know if he is a sinner. One thing I do know: that though I was blind, now I see."
26
তাহারা তাহাকে বলিল, সে তোমার প্রতি কি করিয়াছিল? কি প্রকারে তোমার চক্ষু খুলিয়া দিল?

They said to him again, "What did he do to you? How did he open your eyes?"
27
সে উত্তর করিল, এক বার আপনাদিগকে বলিয়াছি, আপনারা শুনেন নাই; তবে আবার শুনিতে চাহেন কেন? আপনারাও কি তাঁহার শিষ্য হইতে চাহেন?

He answered them, "I told you already, and you didn't listen. Why do you want to hear it again? You don't also want to become his disciples, do you?"
28
তখন তাহারা তাহাকে গালি দিয়া বলিল, তুই সেই ব্যক্তির শিষ্য; আমরা মোশির শিষ্য।
28
They insulted him and said, "You are his disciple, but we are disciples of Moses.
29
আমরা জানি, ঈশ্বর মোশির সঙ্গে কথা বলিয়াছিলেন; কিন্তু এ কোথা হইতে আসিল, তাহা জানি না।
29
We know that God has spoken to Moses. But as for this man, we don't know where he comes from."
30
সেই ব্যক্তি উত্তর করিয়া তাহাদিগকে কহিল, ইহার মধ্যে ত আশ্চর্য্য এই যে, তিনি কোথা হইতে আসিলেন, তাহা আপনারা জানেন না, তথাপি তিনি আমার চক্ষু খুলিয়া দিয়াছেন।

The man answered them, "How amazing! You don't know where he comes from, yet he opened my eyes.
31
আমরা জানি, ঈশ্বর পাপীদের কথা শুনেন। না, কিন্তু যদি কোন ব্যক্তি ঈশ্বরভক্ত হয়, আর তাঁহার ইচ্ছা পালন করে, তিনি তাহারই কথা শুনেন

We know that God doesn't listen to sinners, but if anyone is a worshipper of God, and does his will, he listens to him.
32
কখনও শুনা যায় নাই যে, কেহ জন্মান্ধের চক্ষু খুলিয়া দিয়াছে।
32
Since the world began it has never been heard of that anyone opened the eyes of someone born blind.
33
তিনি যদি ঈশ্বর হইতে না আসিতেন, তবে কিছুই করিতে পারিতেন না।
33
If this man were not from God, he could do nothing."
34
তাহারা উত্তর করিয়া তাহাকে কহিল, তুই একেবারে পাপেই জন্মিয়াছিস্, আর তুই আমাদিগকে শিক্ষা দিতেছিস্? পরে তাহারা তাহাকে বাহির করিয়া দিল।

They answered him, "You were altogether born in sins, and do you teach us?" They threw him out.
35
যীশু শুনিলেন যে, তাহারা তাহাকে বাহির করিয়া দিয়াছে; আর তিনি তাহার দেখা পাইয়া বলিলেন, তুমি কি ঈশ্বরের পুত্রে বিশ্বাস করিতেছ?

Jesus heard that they had thrown him out, and finding him, he said, "Do you believe in the Son of God?"
36
সে উত্তর করিয়া কহিল, প্রভু, তিনি কে? আমি যেন তাঁহাতে বিশ্বাস করি।
36
He answered, "Who is he, Lord, that I may believe in him?"
37
যীশু তাহাকে কহিলেন, তুমি তাঁহাকে দেখিয়াছ; আর তিনিই তোমার সঙ্গে কথা কহিতেছেন।
37
Jesus said to him, "You have both seen him, and it is he who speaks with you."
38
সে কহিল, বিশ্বাস করিতেছি, প্রভু; আর সে তাঁহাকে প্রণাম করিল।
38
He said, "Lord, I believe!" and he worshiped him.
39
তখন যীশু বলিলেন, বিচারের জন্য আমি এ জগতে আসিয়াছি, যেন যাহারা দেখে না, তাহারা দেখিতে পায়, এবং যাহারা দেখে, তাহারা যেন অন্ধ হয়।

Jesus said, "I came into this world for judgment, that those who don't see may see; and that those who see may become blind."
40
ফরীশীদের মধ্যে যাহারা তাঁহার সঙ্গে ছিল, তাহারা এই সকল কথা শুনিল, আর তাঁহাকে কহিল, আমরাও কি অন্ধ না কি?

Those of the Pharisees who were with him heard these things, and said to him, "Are we also blind?"
41
যীশু তাহাদিগকে কহিলেন, যদি অন্ধ হইতে, তোমাদের পাপ থাকিত না; কিন্তু এখন তোমরা বলিয়া থাক, আমরা দেখিতেছি; তোমাদের পাপ রহিয়াছে।

Jesus said to them, "If you were blind, you would have no sin; but now you say, 'We see.' Therefore your sin remains.
