এই সকল কথা তোমাদিগকে কহিলাম, যেন তোমরা বিঘ্ন না পাও।
1
"These things have I spoken to you, so that you wouldn't be caused to stumble.
2
লোকে তোমাদিগকে সমাজ হইতে বাহির করিয়া দিবে; এমন কি, সময় আসিতেছে, যখন যে কেহ তোমাদিগকে বধ করে, সে মনে করিবে, আমি ঈশ্বরের উদ্দেশে উপাসনা-বলি উৎসর্গ করিলাম।

They will put you out of the synagogues. Yes, the time comes that whoever kills you will think that he offers service to God.

তাহারা এই সকল করিবে, কারণ তাহারা না পিতাকে, না আমাকে জানিতে পারিয়াছে।

They will do these things because they have not known the Father, nor me.
4
কিন্তু, আমি তোমাদিগকে এ সকল কহিলাম, যেন এই সকলের সময় যখন উপস্থিত হইবে, তখন তোমরা স্মরণ করিতে পার যে, আমি তোমাদিগকে এই সকল বলিয়াছি। প্রথম হইতে এই সমস্ত তোমাদিগকে বলি নাই, কারণ আমি তোমাদের সঙ্গেই ছিলাম।

But I have told you these things, so that when the time comes, you may remember that I told you about them. I didn't tell you these things from the beginning, because I was with you.

কিন্তু যিনি আমাকে পাঠাইয়াছেন, তাঁহার নিকটে এখন যাইতেছি, আর তোমাদের মধ্যে কেহ আমাকে জিজ্ঞাসা করে না, কোথায় যাইতেছেন?

But now I am going to him who sent me, and none of you asks me, 'Where are you going?'

কিন্তু তোমাদিগকে এই সমস্ত কহিলাম, সেই জন্য তোমাদের হৃদয় দুঃখে পরিপূর্ণ হইয়াছে।

But because I have told you these things, sorrow has filled your heart.
7
তথাপি আমি তোমাদিগকে সত্য বলিতেছি, আমার যাওয়া তোমাদের পক্ষে ভাল, কারণ আমি না গেলে, সেই সহায় তোমাদের নিকটে আসিবেন না; কিন্তু আমি যদি যাই, তবে তোমাদের নিকটে তাঁহাকে পাঠাইয়া দিব।

Nevertheless I tell you the truth: It is to your advantage that I go away, for if I don't go away, the Counselor won't come to you. But if I go, I will send him to you.

আর তিনি আসিয়া পাপের সম্বন্ধে, ধার্ম্মিকতার সম্বন্ধে ও বিচারের সম্বন্ধে, জগৎকে দোষী করিবেন।

When he has come, he will convict the world about sin, about righteousness, and about judgment;
9
পাপের সম্বন্ধে, কেননা তাহারা আমাতে বিশ্বাস করে না;
9
about sin, because they don't believe in me;
10
ধার্ম্মিকতার সম্বন্ধে, কেননা আমি পিতার নিকটে যাইতেছি, ও তোমরা আর আমাকে দেখিতে পাইতেছ না;
10
about righteousness, because I am going to my Father, and you won't see me any more;
11
বিচারের সম্বন্ধে, কেননা এ জগতের অধিপতি বিচারিত হইয়াছে।

about judgment, because the prince of this world has been judged.
12
তোমাদিগকে বলিবার আমার আরও অনেক কথা আছে, কিন্তু তোমরা এখন সে সকল সহ্য করিতে পার না।

"I have yet many things to tell you, but you can't bear them now.
13
পরন্তু তিনি, সত্যের আত্মা, যখন আসিবেন, তখন পথ দেখাইয়া তোমাদিগকে সমস্ত সত্যে লইয়া যাইবেন; কারণ তিনি আপনা হইতে কিছু বলিবেন না, কিন্তু যাহা যাহা শুনেন, তাহাই বলিবেন, এবং আগামী ঘটনাও তোমাদিগকে জানাইবেন।

However when he, the Spirit of truth, has come, he will guide you into all truth, for he will not speak from himself; but whatever he hears, he will speak. He will declare to you things that are coming.
14
তিনি আমাকে মহিমান্বিত করিবেন; কেননা যাহা আমার, তাহাই লইয়া তোমাদিগকে জানাইবেন।

He will glorify me, for he will take from what is mine, and will declare it to you.
15
পিতার যাহা যাহা আছে, সকলই আমার; এই জন্য বলিলাম, যাহা আমার, তিনি তাহাই লইয়া থাকেন, ও তোমাদিগকে জানাইবেন।
15
All things whatever the Father has are mine; therefore I said that he takes of mine, and will declare it to you.
16
অল্প কাল পরে তোমরা আমাকে আর দেখিতে পাইতেছ না; এবং আবার অল্প কাল পরে আমাকে দেখিতে পাইবে।
16
A little while, and you will not see me. Again a little while, and you will see me."

ইহাতে শিষ্যদের মধ্যে কয়েক জন পরস্পর বলাবলি করিতে লাগিলেন, উনি আমাদিগকে এ কি বলিতেছেন, ‘অল্প কাল পরে তোমরা আমাকে দেখিতে পাইতেছ না, এবং আবার অল্প কাল পরে আমাকে দেখিতে পাইবে,’ আর, ‘কারণ আমি পিতার নিকটে যাইতেছি’।

Some of his disciples therefore said to one another, "What is this that he says to us, 'A little while, and you won't see me, and again a little while, and you will see me;' and, 'Because I go to the Father?'"

অতএব তাঁহারা কহিলেন, ইনি এ কি বলিতেছেন, ‘অল্প কাল’? ইনি কি বলেন, আমরা বুঝিতে পারি না।

They said therefore, "What is this that he says, 'A little while?' We don't know what he is saying."
19
যীশু জানিলেন যে, তাঁহারা তাঁহাকে জিজ্ঞাসা করিতে চাহিতেছেন; তাই তিনি তাঁহাদিগকে কহিলেন, আমি যে বলিয়াছি, অল্প কাল পরে তোমরা আমাকে দেখিতে পাইতেছ না, এবং আবার অল্প কাল পরে আমাকে দেখিতে পাইবে, এই বিষয় কি পরস্পর জিজ্ঞাসা করিতেছ?

Therefore Jesus perceived that they wanted to ask him, and he said to them, "Do you inquire among yourselves concerning this, that I said, 'A little while, and you won't see me, and again a little while, and you will see me?'
20
সত্য, সত্য, আমি তোমাদিগকে বলিতেছি, তোমরা ক্রন্দন ও বিলাপ করিবে, কিন্তু জগৎ আনন্দ করিবে; তোমরা দুঃখার্ত্ত হইবে, কিন্তু তোমাদের দুঃখ আনন্দে পরিণত হইবে।

Most assuredly I tell you, that you will weep and lament, but the world will rejoice. You will be sorrowful, but your sorrow will be turned into joy.
21
প্রসবকালে নারী দুঃখ পায়, কারণ তাহার সময় উপস্থিত, কিন্তু সন্তান প্রসব করিলে পর, জগতে একটী মনুষ্য জন্মিল, এই আনন্দে তাহার ক্লেশ আর মনে থাকে না।

A woman, when she gives birth, has sorrow, because her time has come. But when she has delivered the child, she doesn't remember the anguish any more, for the joy that a human being is born into the world.
22
ভাল, তোমরাও এখন দুঃখ পাইতেছ, কিন্তু আমি তোমাদিগকে আবার দেখিব তাহাতে তোমাদের হৃদয় আনন্দিত হইবে, এবং তোমাদের সেই আনন্দ কেহ তোমাদের হইতে হরণ করে না।

Therefore you now have sorrow, but I will see you again, and your heart will rejoice, and no one will take your joy away from you.
23
আর সেই দিনে তোমরা আমাকে কোন কথা জিজ্ঞাসা করিবে না। সত্য, সত্য, আমি তোমাদিগকে বলিতেছি, পিতার নিকটে যদি তোমরা কিছু যাচ্ঞা কর, তিনি আমার নামে তোমাদিগকে তাহা দিবেন।

"In that day you will ask me no questions. Most assuredly I tell you, whatever you may ask of the Father in my name, he will give it to you.
24
এ পর্য্যন্ত তোমরা আমার নামে কিছু যাচ্ঞা কর নাই; যাচ্ঞা কর, তাহাতে পাইবে, যেন তোমাদের আনন্দ সম্পূর্ণ হয়।

Until now, you have asked nothing in my name. Ask, and you will receive, that your joy may be made full.
25
আমি উপমা দ্বারা এই সকল বিষয় তোমাদিগকে বলিলাম; এমন সময় আসিতেছে, যখন তোমাদিগকে আর উপমা দ্বারা বলিব না, কিন্তু স্পষ্টরূপে পিতার বিষয় জানাইব।

I have spoken these things to you in figures of speech. But the time is coming when I will no more speak to you in figures of speech, but will tell you plainly about the Father.
26
সেই দিন তোমরা আমার নামেই যাচ্ঞা করিবে, আর আমি তোমাদিগকে বলিতেছি না যে, আমিই তোমাদের নিমিত্ত পিতাকে নিবেদন করিব;

In that day you will ask in my name; and I don't say to you, that I will pray to the Father for you,
27
কারণ পিতা আপনি তোমাদিগকে ভাল বাসেন, কেননা তোমরা আমাকে ভাল বাসিয়াছ, এবং বিশ্বাস করিয়াছ যে, আমি ঈশ্বরের নিকট হইতে বাহির হইয়া আসিয়াছি।

for the Father himself loves you, because you have loved me, and have believed that I came forth from God.
28
আমি পিতা হইতে বাহির হইয়াছি, এবং জগতে আসিয়াছি; আবার জগৎ পরিত্যাগ করিতেছি, এবং পিতার নিকটে যাইতেছি।

I came out from the Father, and have come into the world. Again, I leave the world, and go to the Father."
29
তাঁহার শিষ্যেরা বলিলেন, দেখুন, এখন আপনি স্পষ্টরূপে বলিতেছেন, কোন উপমা কথা বলিতেছেন না।

His disciples said to him, "Behold, now you speak plainly, and speak no figures of speech.
30
এখন আমরা জানি, আপনি সকলই জানেন, কেহ যে আপনাকে জিজ্ঞাসা করে, ইহা আপনার আবশ্যক করে না; ইহাতে আমরা বিশ্বাস করিতেছি যে, আপনি ঈশ্বরের নিকট হইতে বাহির হইয়া আসিয়াছেন।

Now we know that you know all things, and don't need for anyone to question you. By this we believe that you came forth from God."
31
যীশু তাঁহাদিগকে উত্তর করিলেন, এখন বিশ্বাস করিতেছ?

Jesus answered them, "Do you now believe?
32
দেখ, এমন সময় আসিতেছে, বরং আসিয়াছে, যখন তোমরা ছিন্নভিন্ন হইয়া প্রত্যেকে আপন আপন স্থানে যাইবে, এবং আমাকে একাকী পরিত্যাগ করিবে; তথাপি আমি একাকী নহি, কারণ পিতা আমার সঙ্গে আছেন।

Behold, the time is coming, yes, and has now come, that you will be scattered, everyone to his own place, and you will leave me alone. Yet I am not alone, because the Father is with me.
33
এই সমস্ত তোমাদিগকে বলিলাম, যেন তোমরা আমাতে শান্তি প্রাপ্ত হও। জগতে তোমরা ক্লেশ পাইতেছ; কিন্তু সাহস কর, আমিই জগৎকে জয় করিয়াছি।

I have told you these things, that in me you may have peace. In the world you have oppression; but cheer up! I have overcome the world."
