আদিতে বাক্য ছিলেন, এবং বাক্য ঈশ্বরের কাছে ছিলেন, এবং বাক্য ঈশ্বর ছিলেন।

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
2
তিনি আদিতে ঈশ্বরের কাছে ছিলেন।

The same was in the beginning with God.
3
সকলই তাঁহার দ্বারা হইয়াছিল, যাহা হইয়াছে, তাহার কিছুই তাঁহা ব্যতিরেকে হয় নাই।

All things were made through him. Without him was not anything made that has been made.
4
তাঁহার মধ্যে জীবন ছিল, এবং সেই জীবন মনুষ্যগণের জ্যোতি ছিল।

In him was life, and the life was the light of men.
5
আর সেই জ্যোতি অন্ধকারের মধ্যে দীপ্তি দিতেছে, আর অন্ধকার তাহা গ্রহণ করিল না।

The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness hasn't overcome it.

এক জন মনুষ্য উপস্থিত হইলেন, তিনি ঈশ্বর হইতে প্রেরিত হইয়াছিলেন, তাঁহার নাম যোহন।

There came a man, sent from God, whose name was John.
7
তিনি সাক্ষ্যের জন্য আসিয়াছিলেন, যেন সেই জ্যোতির বিষয়ে সাক্ষ্য দেন, যেন সকলে তাঁহার দ্বারা বিশ্বাস করে।

The same came as a witness, that he might testify about the light, that all might believe through him.

তিনি সেই জ্যোতি ছিলেন না, কিন্তু আসিলেন, যেন সেই জ্যোতির বিষয়ে সাক্ষ্য দেন।

He was not the light, but was sent that he might testify about the light.
9
প্রকৃত জ্যোতি ছিলেন, যিনি সকল মনুষ্যকে দীপ্তি দেন, তিনি জগতে আসিতেছিলেন।

The true light that enlightens everyone was coming into the world.
10
তিনি জগতে ছিলেন, এবং জগৎ তাঁহার দ্বারা হইয়াছিল, আর জগৎ তাঁহাকে চিনিল না।

He was in the world, and the world was made through him, and the world didn't recognize him.
11
তিনি নিজ অধিকারে আসিলেন, আর যাহারা তাঁহার নিজের, তাহারা তাঁহাকে গ্রহণ করিল না।

He came to his own, and those who were his own didn't receive him.
12
কিন্তু যত লোক তাঁহাকে গ্রহণ করিল, সেই সকলকে, যাহারা তাঁহার নামে বিশ্বাস করে তাহাদিগকে, তিনি ঈশ্বরের সন্তান হইবার ক্ষমতা দিলেন।

But as many as received him, to them he gave the right to become God's children, to those who believe in his name:
13
তাহারা রক্ত হইতে নয়, মাংসের ইচ্ছা হইতে নয়, মানুষের ইচ্ছা হইতেও নয়, কিন্তু ঈশ্বর হইতে জাত।

who were born not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.
14
আর সেই বাক্য মাংসে মূর্ত্তিমান হইলেন, এবং আমাদের মধ্যে প্রবাস করিলেন, আর আমরা তাঁহার মহিমা দেখিলাম, যেমন পিতা হইতে আগত একজাতের মহিমা; তিনি অনুগ্রহে ও সত্যে পূর্ণ।

The Word became flesh, and lived among us. We saw his glory, such glory as of the one and only Son of the Father, full of grace and truth.
15
যোহন তাঁহার বিষয়ে সাক্ষ্য দিলেন, আর উচ্চৈঃস্বরে বলিলেন, ইনি সেই ব্যক্তি, যাঁহার বিষয়ে আমি বলিয়াছি, যিনি আমার পশ্চাৎ আসিতেছেন, তিনি আমার অগ্রগণ্য হইলেন, কেননা তিনি আমার পূর্ব্বে ছিলেন।

John testified about him. He cried out, saying, "This was he of whom I said, 'He who comes after me has surpassed me, for he was before me.'"
16
কারণ তাঁহার পূর্ণতা হইতে আমরা সকলে পাইয়াছি, আর অনুগ্রহের উপরে অনুগ্রহ পাইয়াছি;

From his fullness we all received grace upon grace.
17
কারণ ব্যবস্থা মোশি দ্বারা দত্ত হইয়াছিল, অনুগ্রহ ও সত্য যীশু খ্রীষ্ট দ্বারা উপস্থিত হইয়াছে।

For the law was given through Moses. Grace and truth came through Jesus Christ.
18
ঈশ্বরকে কেহ কখনও দেখে নাই; একজাত পুত্র, যিনি পিতার ক্রোড়ে থাকেন, তিনিই [তাঁহাকে] প্রকাশ করিয়াছেন।

No one has seen God at any time. The one and only Son, who is in the bosom of the Father, he has declared him.
19
আর যোহনের সাক্ষ্য এই, — যখন যিহূদিগণ কয়েক জন যাজক ও লেবীয়কে দিয়া যিরূশালেম হইতে তাঁহার কাছে এই কথা জিজ্ঞাসা করিয়া পাঠাইল, ‘আপনি কে?’

This is John's testimony, when the Jews sent priests and Levites from Jerusalem to ask him, "Who are you?"

তখন তিনি স্বীকার করিলেন, অস্বীকার করিলেন না; তিনি স্বীকার করিলেন যে, আমি সেই খ্রীষ্ট নই।
20
He confessed, and didn't deny, but he confessed, "I am not the Christ."
21
তাহারা তাঁহাকে জিজ্ঞাসা করিল, তবে কি? আপনি কি এলিয়? তিনি বলিলেন, আমি নই। আপনি কি সেই ভাববাদী? তিনি উত্তর করিলেন, না।

They asked him, "What then? Are you Elijah?" He said, "I am not." "Are you the Prophet?" He answered, "No."
22
তখন তাহারা তাঁহাকে কহিল, আপনি কে? যাঁহারা আমাদিগকে পাঠাইয়াছেন, তাঁহাদিগকে যেন উত্তর দিতে পারি। আপনার বিষয়ে আপনি কি বলেন?

They said therefore to him, "Who are you? Give us an answer to take back to those who sent us. What do you say about yourself?"
23
তিনি কহিলেন, আমি “প্রান্তরে এক জনের রব, যে ঘোষণা করিতেছে, তোমরা প্রভুর পথ সরল কর,” যেমন যিশাইয় ভাববাদী বলিয়াছিলেন।

He said, "I am the voice of one crying in the wilderness, 'Make straight the way of the Lord,' as Isaiah the prophet said."
24
তাহারা ফরীশীগণের নিকট হইতে প্রেরিত হইয়াছিল।
24
The ones who had been sent were from the Pharisees.
25
আর তাহারা তাঁহাকে জিজ্ঞাসা করিল, আপনি যদি সেই খ্রীষ্ট নহেন, এলিয়ও নহেন, সেই ভাববাদীও নহেন, তবে বাপ্তাইজ করিতেছেন কেন?

They asked him, "Why then do you baptize, if you are not the Christ, nor Elijah, nor the Prophet?"
26
যোহন উত্তর করিয়া তাহাদিগকে কহিলেন, আমি জলে বাপ্তাইজ করিতেছি; তোমাদের মধ্যে এক জন দাঁড়াইয়া আছেন, যাঁহাকে তোমরা জান না,

John answered them, "I baptize in water, but among you stands one whom you don't know.
27
যিনি আমার পশ্চাৎ আসিতেছেন; আমি তাঁহার পাদুকার বন্ধন খুলিবারও যোগ্য নহি।
27
He is the one who comes after me, who is preferred before me, whose sandal strap I'm not worthy to loosen."
28
যর্দ্দনের পরপারে, বৈথনিয়াতে, যেখানে যোহন বাপ্তাইজ করিতেছিলেন, সেইখানে এই সকল ঘটিল।

These things were done in Bethany beyond the Jordan, where John was baptizing.
29
পরদিন তিনি যীশুকে আপনার নিকটে আসিতে দেখিলেন, আর কহিলেন, ঐ দেখ, ঈশ্বরের মেষশাবক, যিনি জগতের পাপভার লইয়া যান।

The next day, he saw Jesus coming to him, and said, "Behold, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world!
30
উনি সেই ব্যক্তি, যাঁহার বিষয়ে আমি বলিয়াছিলাম, আমার পশ্চাৎ এমন এক ব্যক্তি আসিতেছেন, যিনি আমার অগ্রগণ্য হইলেন, কেননা তিনি আমার পূর্ব্বে ছিলেন।

This is he of whom I said, 'After me comes a man who is preferred before me, for he was before me.'
31
আর আমি তাঁহাকে চিনিতাম না, কিন্তু তিনি যেন ইস্রায়েলের নিকট প্রকাশিত হন, এই জন্য আমি আসিয়া জলে বাপ্তাইজ করিতেছি।

I didn't know him, but for this reason I came baptizing in water: that he would be revealed to Israel."
32
আর যোহন সাক্ষ্য দিলেন, কহিলেন, আমি আত্মাকে কপোতের ন্যায় স্বর্গ হইতে নামিতে দেখিয়াছি; তিনি তাঁহার উপরে অবস্থিতি করিলেন।

John testified, saying, "I have seen the Spirit descending like a dove out of heaven, and it remained on him.
33
আর আমি তাঁহাকে চিনিতাম না, কিন্তু যিনি আমাকে জলে বাপ্তাইজ করিতে পাঠাইয়াছেন, তিনিই আমাকে বলিলেন, যাঁহার উপরে আত্মাকে নামিয়া অবস্থিতি করিতে দেখিবে, তিনিই সেই ব্যক্তি, যিনি পবিত্র আত্মায় বাপ্তাইজ করেন।

I didn't recognize him, but he who sent me to baptize in water, he said to me, 'On whomever you will see the Spirit descending, and remaining on him, the same is he who baptizes in the Holy Spirit.'

আর আমি দেখিয়াছি, ও সাক্ষ্য দিয়াছি যে, ইনিই ঈশ্বরের পুত্র।

I have seen, and have testified that this is the Son of God."
35
পরদিন পুনরায় যোহন ও তাঁহার দুই জন শিষ্য দাঁড়াইয়া ছিলেন;

Again, the next day, John was standing with two of his disciples,
36
আর যীশু বেড়াইতেছিলেন, এমন সময়ে তিনি তাঁহার প্রতি দৃষ্টিপাত করিয়া কহিলেন, ঐ দেখ, ঈশ্বরের মেষশাবক।

and he looked at Jesus as he walked, and said, "Behold, the Lamb of God!"
37
সেই দুই শিষ্য তাঁহার এই কথা শুনিয়া যীশুর পশ্চাৎ গমন করিলেন।

The two disciples heard him speak, and they followed Jesus.
38
তাহাতে যীশু ফিরিয়া তাঁহাদিগকে পশ্চাৎ পশ্চাৎ আসিতে দেখিয়া বলিলেন, কিসের অন্বেষণ করিতেছ? তাঁহারা কহিলেন, রব্বি—অনুবাদ করিলে ইহার অর্থ গুরু—আপনি কোথায় থাকেন?

Jesus turned, and saw them following, and said to them, "What are you looking for?" They said to him, "Rabbi" (which is to say, being interpreted, Teacher), "where are you staying?"

তিনি তাঁহাদিগকে কহিলেন, আইস, দেখিবে। অতএব তাঁহারা গিয়া, তিনি যেখানে থাকেন, দেখিলেন; এবং সেই দিন তাঁহার কাছে থাকিলেন; তখন বেলা অনুমান দশম ঘটিকা।

He said to them, "Come, and see." They came and saw where he was staying, and they stayed with him that day. It was about the tenth hour.

যোহনের কথা শুনিয়া যে দুই জন যীশুর পশ্চাৎ গমন করিয়াছিলেন, তাঁহাদের মধ্যে এক জন শিমোন পিতরের ভ্রাতা আন্দ্রিয়।

One of the two who heard John, and followed him, was Andrew, Simon Peter's brother.

তিনি প্রথমে আপন ভ্রাতা শিমোনের দেখা পান, আর তাঁহাকে বলেন, আমরা মশীহের দেখা পাইয়াছি—অনুবাদ করিলে ইহার অর্থ খ্রীষ্ট [অভিষিক্ত]।

He first found his own brother, Simon, and said to him, "We have found the Messiah!" (which is, being interpreted, Christ).
42
তিনি তাঁহাকে যীশুর নিকটে আনিলেন। যীশু তাঁহার প্রতি দৃষ্টিপাত করিয়া কহিলেন, তুমি যোহনের পুত্র শিমোন, তোমাকে কৈফা বলা যাইবে, —অনুবাদ করিলে ইহার অর্থ পিতর [পাথর]।

He brought him to Jesus. Jesus looked at him, and said, "You are Simon the son of Jonah. You shall be called Cephas" (which is by interpretation, Peter).

পরদিবস তিনি গালীলে যাইতে ইচ্ছা করিলেন, ও ফিলিপের দেখা পাইলেন। আর যীশু তাঁহাকে কহিলেন, আমার পশ্চাৎ আইস।

On the next day, he was determined to go out into Galilee, and he found Philip. Jesus said to him, "Follow me."

ফিলিপ বৈৎসৈদার লোক; আন্দ্রিয় ও পিতর সেই নগরের লোক।

Now Philip was from Bethsaida, of the city of Andrew and Peter.

ফিলিপ নথনেলের দেখা পাইলেন, আর তাঁহাকে কহিলেন, মোশি ব্যবস্থায় ও ভাববাদিগণ যাঁহার কথা লিখিয়াছেন, আমরা তাঁহার দেখা পাইয়াছি; তিনি নাসরতীয় যীশু, যোষেফের পুত্র।

Philip found Nathanael, and said to him, "We have found him, of whom Moses in the law, and the prophets, wrote: Jesus of Nazareth, the son of Joseph."

নথনেল তাঁহাকে কহিলেন, নাসরৎ হইতে কি উত্তম কিছু উৎপন্ন হইতে পারে? ফিলিপ তাঁহাকে কহিলেন, আইস, দেখ।

Nathanael said to him, "Can any good thing come out of Nazareth?" Philip said to him, "Come and see."

যীশু নথনেলকে আপনার নিকটে আসিতে দেখিয়া তাঁহার বিষয়ে কহিলেন, ঐ দেখ, এক জন প্রকৃত ইস্রায়েলীয়, যাহার অন্তরে ছল নাই।

Jesus saw Nathanael coming to him, and said about him, "Behold, an Israelite indeed, in whom is no deceit!"

নথনেল তাঁহাকে কহিলেন, আপনি কিসে আমাকে চিনিলেন? যীশু উত্তর করিয়া তাঁহাকে কহিলেন, ফিলিপ তোমাকে ডাকিবার পূর্ব্বে যখন তুমি সেই ডুমুরগাছের তলে ছিলে, তখন তোমাকে দেখিয়াছিলাম।

Nathanael said to him, "How do you know me?" Jesus answered him, "Before Philip called you, when you were under the fig tree, I saw you."
49
নথনেল তাঁহাকে উত্তর করিলেন, রব্বি, আপনিই ঈশ্বরের পুত্র, আপনিই ইস্রায়েলের রাজা।

Nathanael answered him, "Rabbi, you are the Son of God! You are King of Israel!"
50
যীশু উত্তর করিয়া তাঁহাকে কহিলেন, আমি যে তোমাকে বলিলাম, সেই ডুমুরগাছের তলে তোমাকে দেখিয়াছিলাম, সেই জন্য কি বিশ্বাস করিলে? এ সকল হইতেও মহৎ মহৎ বিষয় দেখিবে।

Jesus answered him, "Because I told you, 'I saw you underneath the fig tree,' do you believe? You will see greater things than these!"

আর তিনি তাঁহাকে কহিলেন, সত্য, সত্য, আমি তোমাদিগকে বলিতেছি, তোমরা দেখিবে, স্বর্গ খুলিয়া গিয়াছে, এবং ঈশ্বরের দূতগণ মনুষ্যপুত্রের উপর দিয়া উঠিতেছেন ও নামিতেছেন।

He said to him, "Most assuredly, I tell you, hereafter you will see heaven opened, and the angels of God ascending and descending on the Son of Man."
