1পরে শূহীয় বিল্‌দদ উত্তর করিয়া কহিলেন,
1Then Bildad the Shuhite answered,
2তুমি কত ক্ষণ এই সকল কহিবে? তোমার মুখের বাক্য প্রচণ্ড ঝটিকাবৎ বহিবে?
2"How long will you speak these things? Shall the words of your mouth be a mighty wind?
3ঈশ্বর কি বিচারবিরুদ্ধ কর্ম্ম করেন? সর্ব্বশক্তিমান কি ধর্ম্মবিপয্যয় করেন?
3Does God pervert justice? Or does the Almighty pervert righteousness?
4তোমার সন্তানগণ যদি তাঁহার বিরুদ্ধে পাপ করিয়া থাকে, আর তিনি তাহাদিগকে তাহাদের অধর্ম্মের হস্তে সমর্পণ করিয়া থাকেন,
4If your children have sinned against him, He has delivered them into the hand of their disobedience;
5তুমিই যদি সযত্নে ঈশ্বরের অন্বেষণ কর, সর্ব্বশক্তিমানের নিকটে যদি সাধ্যসাধনা কর,
5If you want to seek God diligently, Make your supplication to the Almighty.
6যদি নির্ম্মল ও সরল হও, তবে তিনি এখনও তোমার নিমিত্ত জাগিবেন, ও তোমার ধর্ম্মনিবাস শান্তিযুক্ত করিবেন।
6If you were pure and upright, Surely now he would awaken for you, And make the habitation of your righteousness prosperous.
7তাহাতে তব অগ্রিম অবস্থা ক্ষুদ্র বোধ হইবে, তোমার অন্তিম দশা অতিশয় উন্নত হইবে।
7Though your beginning was small, Yet your latter end would greatly increase.
8বিনয় করি, তুমি পূর্ব্বকালীন লোককে জিজ্ঞাসা কর, তাহাদের পিতৃগণের অনুসন্ধান-ফলে মনোযোগ কর।
8"Please inquire of past generations, Find out about the learning of their fathers.
9কেননা আমরা কল্যকার লোক কিছুই জানি না; পৃথিবীতে আমাদের আয়ু ছায়াস্বরূপ।
9(For we are but of yesterday, and know nothing, Because our days on earth are a shadow.)
10উহারা কি তোমাকে শিক্ষা দিবে না, ও তোমাকে বলিবে না? উহাদের অন্তঃকরণ হইতে কি এই বাক্য নিঃসৃত হইবে না?
10Shall they not teach you, tell you, And utter words out of their heart?
11“কর্দ্দম বিনা কি নল বৃদ্ধি পাইতে পারে? খাগ্‌ড়া কি জল ব্যতিরেকে বাড়িতে পারে?
11"Can the papyrus grow up without mire? Can the rushes grow without water?
12যখন তাহা তেজস্বী থাকে, কাটা না যায়, তখন অন্য সকল তৃণের পূর্ব্বে শুষ্ক হয়।
12While it is yet in its greenness, not cut down, It withers before any other reed.
13যাহারা ঈশ্বরকে ভুলিয়া যায়, সেই সকলের সেই গতি; পামরের আশা বিনষ্ট হয়।
13So are the paths of all who forget God. The hope of the godless man shall perish,
14তাহার ভরসা উচ্ছিন্ন হয়, তাহার আশ্রয় মাকড়সার জালমাত্র।
14Whose confidence shall break apart, Whose trust is a spider's web.
15সে আপন গৃহে নির্ভর করিবে, কিন্তু তাহা স্থির থাকিবে না, সে শক্ত করিয়া ধরিলেও তাহা থাকিবে না।
15He shall lean on his house, but it shall not stand. He shall cling to it, but it shall not endure.
16সে সূর্য্যের সাক্ষাতে সতেজ থাকে, উদ্যানে তাহার কোমল শাখা ব্যাপিয়া যায়।
16He is green before the sun, His shoots go forth over his garden.
17প্রস্তররাশিতে তাহার শিকড় জড়িত হয়, সে পাষাণচয়ের স্থান দেখিতে পায়,
17His roots are wrapped around the rock pile, He sees the place of stones.
18তবু যখন সে স্বস্থান হইতে উৎপাটিত হয়, তখন সেই স্থান তাহাকে অস্বীকার করিয়া কহিবে, আমি ত তোমাকে দেখি নাই।
18If he is destroyed from his place, Then it shall deny him, saying, 'I have not seen you.'
19দেখ, এই তাহার পথের আমোদ; পরে ধূলি হইতে অন্যেরা উঠিবে।”
19Behold, this is the joy of his way: Out of the earth shall others spring.
20দেখ, ঈশ্বর সিদ্ধকে নিগ্রহ করেন না, আর তিনি দুরাচারদের হস্ত ধরিয়া রাখেন না।
20"Behold, God will not cast away a blameless man, Neither will he uphold the evil-doers.
21এখনও তিনি তোমার মুখ হাস্যে পূর্ণ করিবেন, তোমার ওষ্ঠাধর হর্ষধ্বনিতে পূর্ণ করিবেন।
21He will still fill your mouth with laughter, Your lips with shouting.
22তোমার বিদ্বেষিগণ লজ্জাপরিহিত হইবে, দুষ্টগণের তাম্বু থাকিবে না।
22Those who hate you shall be clothed with shame. The tent of the wicked shall be no more."
