জাতিগণের বিষয়ে যিরমিয় ভাববাদীর নিকটে সদাপ্রভুর যে বাক্য উপস্থিত হইল, তাহার বৃত্তান্ত।

The word of Yahweh which came to Jeremiah the prophet concerning the nations.

মিসরের বিষয়। যোশিয়ের পুত্র যিহূদা-রাজ যিহোয়াকীমের চতুর্থ বৎসরে বাবিল-রাজ নবূখদ্রিৎসর মিসর-রাজ ফরৌণ-নখোর যে সৈন্যসামন্তকে পরাজয় করিলেন, ফরাৎ নদীর তীরস্থ কর্কমীশে উপস্থিত সেই সৈন্যসামন্ত বিষয়ক কথা।

Of Egypt: concerning the army of Pharaoh Necoh king of Egypt, which was by the river Euphrates in Carchemish, which Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon struck in the fourth year of Jehoiakim the son of Josiah, king of Judah.

তোমরা চর্ম্মঢাল ও ফলক প্রস্তুত কর, এবং যুদ্ধ করণার্থে নিকটে আইস।

Prepare you the buckler and shield, and draw near to battle.

অশ্বগণকে সজ্জিত কর, হে অশ্বারোহিগণ, অশ্বারোহণ কর, এবং শিরস্ত্রাণ পরিয়া সম্মুখে দাঁড়াও, বড়শা চকচকে কর, বর্ম্ম পরিধান কর।

Harness the horses, and get up, you horsemen, and stand forth with your helmets; furbish the spears, put on the coats of mail.

আমি কি জন্য ইহা দেখিয়াছি? তাহারা উদ্বিগ্ন হইয়া পৃষ্ঠ ফিরাইতেছে, তাহাদের বীরগণ চূর্ণ হইতেছে, তাড়াতাড়ি পলায়ন করিতেছে, ফিরিয়া চাহে না; চারিদিকে ভয়, ইহা সদাপ্রভু কহেন।

Why have I seen it? they are dismayed and are turned backward; and their mighty ones are beaten down, and have fled apace, and don't look back: terror is on every side, says Yahweh.

দ্রুতগামী লোককে পলায়ন করিতে দিও না, বীরকে পার পাইতে দিও না; উত্তরদিকে ফরাৎ নদীর নিকটে তাহারা উছোট খাইয়া পড়িয়াছে।

Don't let the swift flee away, nor the mighty man escape; in the north by the river Euphrates have they stumbled and fallen.

ঐ কে, যে নীল নদের ন্যায় উঠিয়া আসিতেছে, নদীসমূহের ন্যায় জলরাশি আস্ফালিত করিতেছে?

Who is this who rises up like the Nile, whose waters toss themselves like the rivers?

মিসর নীল নদের ন্যায় উঠিয়া আসিতেছে, নদীসমূহের ন্যায় জলরাশি আস্ফালিত করিতেছে; আর সে বলে, আমি উথলিয়া উঠিব, ভূতল আপ্লাবিত করিব, আমি নগর ও তন্নিবাসীদিগকে বিনষ্ট করিব।

Egypt rises up like the Nile, and his waters toss themselves like the rivers: and he says, I will rise up, I will cover the earth; I will destroy cities and the inhabitants of it.

হে অশ্বগণ, উঠিয়া যাও; হে রথ সকল, উন্মত্তের ন্যায় হও; বীরগণ, ঢালধারী কূশ ও পূট, এবং ধনুর্দ্ধর ও ধনুকে চাড়াদায়ী লূদীয়গণ বহির্গত হউক।

Go up, you horses; and rage, you chariots; and let the mighty men go forth: Cush and Put, who handle the shield; and the Ludim, who handle and bend the bow.

এ প্রভুর, বাহিনীগণের সদাপ্রভুর দিন, তাঁহার বিপক্ষদিগকে প্রতিফল দিবার জন্য প্রতিশোধের দিন; খড়্গ গ্রাস করিয়া তৃপ্ত হইবে, তাহাদের রক্তপানে পরিতৃপ্ত হইবে, কেননা উত্তরদেশে ফরাৎ নদীর নিকটে প্রভুর, বাহিনীগণের সদাপ্রভুর এক যজ্ঞ হইতেছে।

For that day is a day of the Lord, Yahweh of Hosts, a day of vengeance, that he may avenge him of his adversaries: and the sword shall devour and be satiate, and shall drink its fill of their blood; for the Lord, Yahweh of hosts, has a sacrifice in the north country by the river Euphrates.

হে অনূঢ়ে মিসর-কন্যে, তুমি গিলিয়দে উঠিয়া যাও, তরুসার গ্রহণ কর; তুমি বৃথাই অনেক ঔষধ ব্যবহার করিতেছ; তোমার পটী নাই।

Go up into Gilead, and take balm, virgin daughter of Egypt: in vain do you use many medicines; there is no healing for you.

জাতিগণ তোমার অপমানের কথা শুনিয়াছে, তোমার কাতরোক্তিতে পৃথিবী পরিপূর্ণ হইতেছে, কেননা বীর বীরে উছোট খাইয়াছে, তাহারা উভয়ে একসঙ্গে পতিত হইল।

The nations have heard of your shame, and the earth is full of your cry; for the mighty man has stumbled against the mighty, they are fallen both of them together.

মিসর দেশ পরাজয় করণার্থে বাবিল রাজ নবূখদ্রিৎসরের আগমন বিষয়ে সদাপ্রভু যিরমিয়কে এই কথা কহিলেন।

The word that Yahweh spoke to Jeremiah the prophet, how that Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon should come and strike the land of Egypt.

তোমরা মিসরে প্রচার কর, মিগ্দোলে ঘোষণা কর, এবং নোফে ও তফন্হেষে ঘোষণা কর, বল, তুমি উঠিয়া দাঁড়াও, আপনাকে প্রস্তুত কর, কেননা খড়্গ তোমার চারিদিকে গ্রাস করিয়াছে।

Declare you in Egypt, and publish in Migdol, and publish in Memphis and in Tahpanhes: say you , Stand forth, and prepare you; for the sword has devoured round about you.
15
তোমার বলবানেরা কেন ভাসিয়া গেল? তাহারা স্থির থাকিতে পারিল না, যেহেতু সদাপ্রভু তাহাদিগকে অধঃপাতিত করিলেন।

Why are your strong ones swept away? they didn't stand, because Yahweh did drive them.
16
তিনি অনেককে উছোট খাওয়াইলেন, হাঁ, তাহারা এক জন অন্যের উপরে পতিত হইল; আর তাহারা বলিল, উঠ, আমরা এই উৎপীড়ক খড়্গ হইতে ফিরিয়া স্বজাতির নিকটে ও আমাদের জন্মভূমিতে যাই।

He made many to stumble, yes, they fell one on another: and they said, Arise, and let us go again to our own people, and to the land of our birth, from the oppressing sword.

সে স্থানে লোকেরা উচ্চৈঃস্বরে বলিল, মিসর-রাজ ফরৌণ শব্দমাত্র, সে সময় বহিয়া যাইতে দিয়াছে।

They cried there, Pharaoh king of Egypt is but a noise; he has let the appointed time pass by.
18
বাহিনীগণের সদাপ্রভু যাঁহার নাম, সেই রাজা কহেন, আমার জীবনের দিব্য, পর্ব্বতগণের মধ্যে তাবোরের সদৃশ কিম্বা সমুদ্রের নিকটস্থ কর্মিলের সদৃশ এক ব্যক্তি আসিবে।

As I live, says the King, whose name is Yahweh of Hosts, surely like Tabor among the mountains, and like Carmel by the sea, so shall he come.
19
হে মিসর-নিবাসিনি কন্যে, নির্ব্বাসের জন্য সম্বল প্রস্তুত কর; কেননা নোফ ধ্বংসিত, দগ্ধ ও নিবাসীবিহীন হইবে।

You daughter who dwell in Egypt, furnish yourself to go into captivity; for Memphis shall become a desolation, and shall be burnt up, without inhabitant.
20
মিসর অতি সুন্দরী তরুণী গাভী, কিন্তু উত্তরদিক্ হইতে দংশক আসিতেছে, আসিতেছে।

Egypt is a very beautiful heifer; but destruction out of the north is come, it is come.
21
মিসরের মধ্যবর্ত্তী তাহার বেতনভোগীরা পুষ্ট গোবৎসের ন্যায়, তাহারাও ফিরিয়া গিয়াছে, একযোগে পলায়ন করিয়াছে, স্থির থাকে নাই, কেননা তাহাদের বিপদের দিন, প্রতিফল পাইবার সময়, তাহাদের কাছে উপস্থিত।

Also her hired men in the midst of her are like calves of the stall; for they also are turned back, they are fled away together, they didn't stand: for the day of their calamity is come on them, the time of their visitation.
22
তাহার শব্দ সর্পের ন্যায় চলিবে; কারণ উহারা সসৈন্যে চলিবে, এবং কাঠুরিয়াদের ন্যায় কুড়ালি লইয়া তাহার বিরুদ্ধে আসিবে।

The sound of it shall go like the serpent; for they shall march with an army, and come against her with axes, as wood cutters.
23
সদাপ্রভু কহেন, উহারা তাহার অরণ্য কাটিয়া ফেলিবে, তাহার অনুসন্ধান করা যায় না, কারণ উহারা পঙ্গপাল অপেক্ষাও অধিক, উহারা অসংখ্য।

They shall cut down her forest, says Yahweh, though it can't be searched; because they are more than the locusts, and are innumerable.
24
মিসরকন্যা লজ্জিতা হইবে, সে উত্তরদেশীয়দের হস্তে সমর্পিতা হইবে।

The daughter of Egypt shall be disappointed; she shall be delivered into the hand of the people of the north.
25
বাহিনীগণের সদাপ্রভু, ইস্রায়েলের ঈশ্বর, কহেন, দেখ, আমি নো নগরের আমোন দেবকে, ফরৌণ ও মিসরকে এবং তাহার দেবগণ ও রাজগণকে, ফরৌণ ও তাহার শরণাপন্ন সকলকে প্রতিফল দিব;

Yahweh of Hosts, the God of Israel, says: Behold, I will punish Amon of No, and Pharaoh, and Egypt, with her gods, and her kings; even Pharaoh, and those who trust in him:
26
আর যাহারা তাহাদের প্রাণনাশার্থে সচেষ্ট, তাহাদের হস্তে, বাবিল-রাজ নবূখদ্রিৎসরের ও তাহার দাসগণের হস্তে তাহাদিগকে সমর্পণ করিব; কিন্তু তৎপরে সেই দেশ পূর্ব্বকালের ন্যায় নিবাসবিশিষ্ট হইবে, ইহা সদাপ্রভু কহেন।

and I will deliver them into the hand of those who seek their lives, and into the hand of Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon, and into the hand of his servants; and afterwards it shall be inhabited, as in the days of old, says Yahweh.
27
পরন্তু, হে আমার দাস যাকোব, তুমি ভয় করিও না; হে ইস্রায়েল, নিরাশ হইও না; কেননা দেখ, আমি দূর হইতে তোমাকে, বন্দিত্ব-দেশ হইতে তোমার বংশকে নিস্তার করিব; যাকোব ফিরিয়া আসিবে, নির্ভয় ও নিশ্চিন্ত থাকিবে, কেহ তাহাকে ভয় দেখাইবে না।

But don't be afraid you, Jacob my servant, neither be dismayed, Israel: for, behold, I will save you from afar, and your seed from the land of their captivity; and Jacob shall return, and shall be quiet and at ease, and none shall make him afraid.
28
সদাপ্রভু কহেন, হে আমার দাস যাকোব, তুমি ভয় করিও না, কেননা আমি তোমার সহবর্ত্তী; হাঁ, যাহাদের মধ্যে আমি তোমাকে দূর করিয়াছি, সেই সমস্ত জাতিকে নিঃশেষে সংহার করিব, কিন্তু তোমাকে নিঃশেষে সংহার করিব না; আমি বিচারানুরূপ শাস্তি দিব, কোন মতে অদণ্ডিত রাখিব না।

Don't be afraid you, O Jacob my servant, says Yahweh; for I am with you: for I will make a full end of all the nations where I have driven you; but I will not make a full end of you, but I will correct you in measure, and will in no way leave you unpunished.
