দুই বৎসর পরে ফরৌণ স্বপ্ন দেখিলেন।
1
It happened at the end of two full years, that Pharaoh dreamed: and, behold, he stood by the river.

দেখ, তিনি নদীকূলে দাঁড়াইয়া আছেন, আর দেখ, নদী হইতে সাতটা হৃষ্টপুষ্ট সুন্দর গাভী উঠিল, ও খাগড়া বনে চরিতে লাগিল।

Behold, there came up out of the river seven cattle, well-favored and fat-fleshed, and they fed in the reed-grass.

সেগুলির পরে, দেখ, আর সাতটা কৃশ ও বিশ্রী গাভী নদী হইতে উঠিল, ও নদীর তীরে ঐ গাভীদের নিকটে দাঁড়াইল।

Behold, seven other cattle came up after them out of the river, ill-favored and lean-fleshed, and stood by the other cattle on the brink of the river.

পরে সেই কৃশ বিশ্রী গাভীরা ঐ সাতটা হৃষ্টপুষ্ট সুন্দর গাভীকে খাইয়া ফেলিল। তখন ফরৌণের নিদ্রাভঙ্গ হইল।

The ill-favored and lean-fleshed cattle ate up the seven well-favored and fat cattle. So Pharaoh awoke.

তাহার পরে তিনি নিদ্রিত হইয়া দ্বিতীয় বার স্বপ্ন দেখিলেন; দেখ, এক বোঁটাতে সাতটী স্থূলাকার উত্তম শীষ উঠিল।

He slept and dreamed a second time: and, behold, seven heads of grain came up on one stalk, healthy and good.

সেগুলির পরে, দেখ, পূর্ব্বীয় বায়ুতে শোষিত অন্য সাতটী ক্ষীণ শীষ উঠিল।

Behold, seven heads of grain, thin and blasted with the east wind, sprung up after them.

আর এই ক্ষীণ শীষগুলি ঐ সাতটা স্থূলাকার পূর্ণ শীষ গ্রাস করিল। পরে ফরৌণের নিদ্রাভঙ্গ হইল, আর দেখ, উহা স্বপ্নমাত্র।

The thin heads of grain swallowed up the seven healthy and full ears. Pharaoh awoke, and, behold, it was a dream.

পরে প্রাতঃকালে তাঁহার মন অস্থির হইল; আর তিনি লোক পাঠাইয়া মিসরের সকল মন্ত্রবেত্তা ও তথাকার সকল জ্ঞানীকে ডাকাইলেন; আর ফরৌণ তাঁহাদের কাছে সেই স্বপ্নবৃত্তান্ত কহিলেন, কিন্তু তাঁহাদের মধ্যে কেহই ফরৌণকে তাহার অর্থ বলিতে পারিলেন না।

It happened in the morning that his spirit was troubled, and he sent and called for all the magicians of Egypt, and all the wise men of it. Pharaoh told them his dream, but there was no one who could interpret them to Pharaoh.

তখন প্রধান পানপাত্রবাহক ফরৌণকে নিবেদন করিল, অদ্য আমার দোষ মনে পড়িতেছে।

Then the chief cupbearer spoke to Pharaoh, saying, "I remember my faults today.

ফরৌণ আপন দুই দাসের প্রতি, আমার ও প্রধান মোদকের প্রতি, ক্রোধান্বিত হইয়া আমাদিগকে রক্ষক-সেনাপতির বাটীতে কারাবদ্ধ করিয়াছিলেন।

Pharaoh was angry with his servants, and put me in custody in the house of the captain of the guard, me and the chief baker.

আর সে ও আমি এক রাত্রিতে স্বপ্ন দেখিয়াছিলাম; এবং দুই জনের স্বপ্নের দুই প্রকার অর্থ হইল।

We dreamed a dream in one night, I and he. We dreamed each man according to the interpretation of his dream.
12
তখন সে স্থানে রক্ষক-সেনাপতির দাস এক জন ইব্রীয় যুবক আমাদের সহিত ছিল; তাহাকে স্বপ্নবৃত্তান্ত কহিলে সে আমাদিগকে তাহার অর্থ বলিল; উভয়েরই স্বপ্নের অর্থ বলিল।

There was with us there a young man, a Hebrew, servant to the captain of the guard, and we told him, and he interpreted to us our dreams. To each man according to his dream he interpreted.

আর সে আমাদিগকে যেরূপ অর্থ বলিয়াছিল, তদ্রূপই ঘটিল; মহারাজ আমাকে পূর্ব্বপদে নিযুক্ত করিলেন, ও তাহাকে টাঙ্গাইয়া দিলেন।

It happened, as he interpreted to us, so it was: he restored me to my office, and he hanged him."

তখন ফরৌণ যোষেফকে ডাকিয়া পাঠাইলে লোকেরা কারাকূপ হইতে তাঁহাকে শীঘ্র আনিল। পরে তিনি ক্ষৌরী হইয়া অন্য বস্ত্র পরিধান করিয়া ফরৌণের নিকটে উপস্থিত হইলেন।

Then Pharaoh sent and called Joseph, and they brought him hastily out of the dungeon. He shaved himself, changed his clothing, and came in to Pharaoh.

তখন ফরৌণ যোষেফকে কহিলেন, আমি এক স্বপ্ন দেখিয়াছি, তাহার অর্থ করিতে পারে, এমন কেহ নাই। কিন্তু তোমার বিষয়ে আমি শুনিয়াছি যে, তুমি স্বপ্ন শুনিলে অর্থ করিতে পার।

Pharaoh said to Joseph, "I have dreamed a dream, and there is no one who can interpret it. I have heard it said of you, that when you hear a dream you can interpret it."

যোষেফ ফরৌণকে উত্তর করিলেন, তাহা আমার অসাধ্য, ঈশ্বরই ফরৌণকে মঙ্গলযুক্ত উত্তর দিবেন।

Joseph answered Pharaoh, saying, "It isn't in me. God will give Pharaoh an answer of peace."

তখন ফরৌণ যোষেফকে কহিলেন, দেখ, আমি স্বপ্নে নদীর তীরে দাঁড়াইয়াছিলাম।

Pharaoh spoke to Joseph, "In my dream, behold, I stood on the brink of the river:

আর দেখ, নদী হইতে সাতটা হৃষ্টপুষ্ট সুন্দর গাভী উঠিয়া খাগড়া বনে চরিতে লাগিল।

and, behold, there came up out of the river seven cattle, fat-fleshed and well-favored. They fed in the reed-grass,
19
সেগুলির পরে, দেখ, কৃশ ও অতিশয় বিশ্রী ও শুষ্কাঙ্গ অন্য সাতটা গাভী উঠিল; আমি সমস্ত মিসর দেশে তাদৃশ বিশ্রী গাভী কখনও দেখি নাই।

and, behold, seven other cattle came up after them, poor and very ill-favored and lean-fleshed, such as I never saw in all the land of Egypt for ugliness.
20
আর এই কৃশ ও বিশ্রী গাভীরা সেই পূর্ব্বের হৃষ্টপুষ্ট সাতটা গাভীকে খাইয়া ফেলিল।

The lean and ill-favored cattle ate up the first seven fat cattle,
21
কিন্তু তাহারা ইহাদের উদরস্থ হইলে পর, উদরস্থ যে হইয়াছে, এমন বোধ হইল না, কেননা ইহারা পূর্ব্বকার ন্যায় বিশ্রীই রহিল।

and when they had eaten them up, it couldn't be known that they had eaten them, but they were still ill-favored, as at the beginning. So I awoke.
22
তখন আমার নিদ্রাভঙ্গ হইল। পরে আমি আর এক স্বপ্ন দেখিলাম; আর দেখ, এক বোঁটায় স্থূলাকার উত্তম সাতটী শীষ উঠিল।

I saw in my dream, and, behold, seven heads of grain came up on one stalk, full and good:
23
আর দেখ, সেগুলির পরে ম্লান, ক্ষীণ ও পূর্ব্বীয় বায়ুতে শোষিত সাতটী শীষ উঠিল।
23
and, behold, seven heads of grain, withered, thin, and blasted with the east wind, sprung up after them.
24
আর এই ক্ষীণ শীষগুলি সেই উত্তম সাতটী শীষকে গ্রাস করিল। এই স্বপ্ন আমি মন্ত্রবেত্তাদিগকে কহিলাম, কিন্তু কেহই ইহার অর্থ আমাকে বলিতে পারিল না।

The thin heads of grain swallowed up the seven good heads of grain. I told it to the magicians; but there was no one who could explain it to me."
25
তখন যোষেফ ফরৌণকে বলিলেন, ফরৌণের স্বপ্ন এক; ঈশ্বর যাহা করিতে উদ্যত হইয়াছেন, তাহাই ফরৌণকে জ্ঞাত করিয়াছেন।

Joseph said to Pharaoh, "The dream of Pharaoh is one. What God is about to do he has declared to Pharaoh.
26
ঐ সাতটী উত্তম গাভী সাত বৎসর, এবং ঐ সাতটী উত্তম শীষও সাত বৎসর; স্বপ্ন এক।
26
The seven good cattle are seven years; and the seven good heads of grain are seven years. The dream is one.
27
আর তাহার পশ্চাৎ যে সাতটি কৃশ ও বিশ্রী গাভী উঠিল, তাহারাও সাত বৎসর; এবং পূর্ব্বীয় বায়ুতে শোষিত যে সাতটী কৃশ শীষ উঠিল, তাহা দুর্ভিক্ষের সাত বৎসর হইবে।

The seven lean and ill-favored cattle that came up after them are seven years, and also the seven empty heads of grain blasted with the east wind; they will be seven years of famine.
28
আমি ফরৌণকে ইহাই বলিলাম; ঈশ্বর যাহা করিতে উদ্যত হইয়াছেন, তাহা ফরৌণকে দেখাইয়াছেন।

That is the thing which I spoke to Pharaoh. What God is about to do he has shown to Pharaoh.
29
দেখুন, সমস্ত মিসর দেশে সাত বৎসর অতিশয় শস্যবাহুল্য হইবে।
29
Behold, there come seven years of great plenty throughout all the land of Egypt.
30
তাহার পরে সাত বৎসর এমন দুর্ভিক্ষ হইবে যে, মিসর দেশে সমস্ত শস্যবাহুল্যের বিস্মৃতি হইবে, এবং সেই দুর্ভিক্ষে দেশ নষ্ট হইবে।

There will arise after them seven years of famine, and all the plenty will be forgotten in the land of Egypt. The famine will consume the land,
31
আর সেই পশ্চাদ্বর্ত্তী দুর্ভিক্ষ প্রযুক্ত দেশে পূর্ব্বকার শস্যবাহুল্যের কথা মনে পড়িবে না; কারণ তাহা অতীব কষ্টকর হইবে।

and the plenty will not be known in the land by reason of that famine which follows; for it will be very grievous.
32
আর ফরৌণের নিকটে দুই বার স্বপ্ন দেখাইবার ভাব এই; ঈশ্বর ইহা স্থির করিয়াছেন, এবং ঈশ্বর ইহা শীঘ্র ঘটাইবেন।

The dream was doubled to Pharaoh, because the thing is established by God, and God will shortly bring it to pass.
33
অতএব এখন ফরৌণ এক জন সুবুদ্ধি ও জ্ঞানবান্ পুরুষের চেষ্টা করিয়া তাঁহাকে মিসর দেশের উপরে নিযুক্ত করুন।

Now therefore let Pharaoh look for a discreet and wise man, and set him over the land of Egypt.
34
আর ফরৌণ এই কর্ম্ম করুন; দেশে অধ্যক্ষগণ নিযুক্ত করিয়া যে সাত বৎসর শস্যবাহুল্য হইবে, সেই সময়ে মিসর দেশ হইতে শস্যের পঞ্চমাংশ গ্রহণ করুন।

Let Pharaoh do this, and let him appoint overseers over the land, and take up the fifth part of the land of Egypt's produce in the seven plenteous years.
35
তাঁহারা সেই আগামী শুভ বৎসরসমূহের ভক্ষ্য সংগ্রহ করুন, ও ফরৌণের অধীনে নগরে নগরে খাদ্যের জন্য শস্য সঞ্চয় করুন, ও রক্ষা করুন।

Let them gather all the food of these good years that come, and lay up grain under the hand of Pharaoh for food in the cities, and let them keep it.
36
এইরূপে মিসর দেশে যে দুর্ভিক্ষ হইবে, সেই দুর্ভিক্ষের সাত বৎসরের নিমিত্ত সেই ভক্ষ্য দেশের জন্য সঞ্চিত থাকিবে, তাহাতে দুর্ভিক্ষে দেশ উচ্ছিন্ন হইবে না।

The food will be for a store to the land against the seven years of famine, which will be in the land of Egypt; that the land not perish through the famine."
37
তখন ফরৌণের ও তাঁহার সকল দাসের দৃষ্টিতে এই কথা উত্তম বোধ হইল।

The thing was good in the eyes of Pharaoh, and in the eyes of all his servants.
38
আর ফরৌণ আপন দাসদিগকে কহিলেন, ইহাঁর তুল্য পুরুষ, যাঁহার অন্তরে ঈশ্বরের আত্মা আছেন, এমন আর কাহাকে পাইব?

Pharaoh said to his servants, "Can we find such a one as this, a man in whom is the Spirit of God?"
39
তখন ফরৌণ যোষেফকে কহিলেন, ঈশ্বর তোমাকে এই সকল জ্ঞাত করিয়াছেন, অতএব তোমার তুল্য সুবুদ্ধি ও জ্ঞানবান্ কেহই নাই।

Pharaoh said to Joseph, "Because God has shown you all of this, there is none so discreet and wise as you.
40
তুমিই আমার বাটীর অধ্যক্ষ হও; আমার সমস্ত প্রজা তোমার বাক্য শিরোধার্য্য করিবে, কেবল সিংহাসনে আমি তোমা হইতে বড় থাকিব।
40
You shall be over my house, and according to your word will all my people be ruled. Only in the throne I will be greater than you."
41
ফরৌণ যোষেফকে আরও কহিলেন, দেখ, আমি তোমাকে সমস্ত মিসর দেশের উপরে নিযুক্ত করিলাম।

Pharaoh said to Joseph, "Behold, I have set you over all the land of Egypt."
42
পরে ফরৌণ হস্ত হইতে নিজ অঙ্গুরীয় খুলিয়া যোষেফের হস্তে দিলেন, তাঁহাকে কার্পাসের শুভ্র বসন পরিধান করাইলেন, এবং তাঁহার কণ্ঠদেশে সুবর্ণহার দিলেন।

Pharaoh took off his signet ring from his hand, and put it on Joseph's hand, and arrayed him in robes of fine linen, and put a gold chain about his neck,
43
আর তাঁহাকে আপনার দ্বিতীয় রথে আরোহণ করাইলেন এবং লোকেরা তাঁহার অগ্রে অগ্রে ‘হাঁটু পাত, হাঁটু পাত’ বলিয়া ঘোষণা করিল। এইরূপে তিনি সমস্ত মিসর দেশের অধ্যক্ষপদে নিযুক্ত হইলেন।

and he made him to ride in the second chariot which he had. They cried before him, "Bow the knee!" He set him over all the land of Egypt.

আর ফরৌণ যোষেফকে কহিলেন, আমি ফরৌণ, তোমার আজ্ঞা ব্যতিরেকে সমস্ত মিসর দেশে কোন লোক হাত কি পা তুলিতে পারিবে না।
44
Pharaoh said to Joseph, "I am Pharaoh, and without you shall no man lift up his hand or his foot in all the land of Egypt."
45
আর ফরৌণ যোষেফের নাম সাফনৎ-পানেহ রাখিলেন। এবং তাঁহার সঙ্গে ওন নগর-নিবাসী পোটীফেরঃ নামক যাজকের আসনৎ নাম্নী কন্যার বিবাহ দিলেন। পরে যোষেফ মিসর দেশের মধ্যে যাতায়াত করিতে লাগিলেন।

Pharaoh called Joseph's name Zaphenath-paneah; and he gave him Asenath, the daughter of Potiphera priest of On as a wife. Joseph went out over the land of Egypt.

যোষেফ ত্রিশ বৎসর বয়সে মিসর-রাজ ফরৌণের সাক্ষাতে দণ্ডায়মান হইয়াছিলেন। পরে যোষেফ ফরৌণের নিকট হইতে প্রস্থান করিয়া মিসর দেশের সর্ব্বত্র ভ্রমণ করিলেন।

Joseph was thirty years old when he stood before Pharaoh king of Egypt. Joseph went out from the presence of Pharaoh, and went throughout all the land of Egypt.

আর সেই শস্যবাহুল্যের সপ্ত বৎসর ভূমিতে অপর্য্যাপ্ত শস্য জন্মিল।

In the seven plenteous years the earth brought forth abundantly.

মিসর দেশে উপস্থিত সেই সপ্ত বৎসরে সকল শস্য সংগ্রহ করিয়া তিনি প্রতিনগরে সঞ্চয় করিলেন; যে নগরের চারি সীমায় যে শস্য হইল, সেই নগরে তাহা সঞ্চয় করিলেন।

He gathered up all the food of the seven years which were in the land of Egypt, and laid up the food in the cities: the food of the field, which was round about every city, he laid up in the same.

এইরূপে যোষেফ সমুদ্রের বালুকার ন্যায় এমন প্রচুর শস্য সংগ্রহ করিলেন যে, তাহা মাপিতে নিবৃত্ত হইলেন, কেননা তাহা অপরিমেয় ছিল।

Joseph laid up grain as the sand of the sea, very much, until he stopped counting, for it was without number.

দুর্ভিক্ষ বৎসরের পূর্ব্বে যোষেফের দুই পুত্র জন্মিল; ওন্-নিবাসী পোটীফেরঃ যাজকের কন্যা আসনৎ তাঁহার জন্য তাহাদিগকে প্রসব করিলেন।

To Joseph were born two sons before the year of famine came, whom Asenath, the daughter of Potiphera priest of On, bore to him.

আর যোষেফ তাহাদের জ্যেষ্ঠের নাম মনঃশি [বিস্মৃতিজনক] রাখিলেন, কেননা তিনি কহিলেন, ঈশ্বর আমার সমস্ত ক্লেশের ও আমার সমস্ত পিতৃকুলের বিস্মৃতি জন্মাইয়াছেন।

Joseph called the name of the firstborn Manasseh, "For," he said, "God has made me forget all my toil, and all my father's house."

পরে দ্বিতীয় পুত্রের নাম ইফ্রয়িম [ফলবান্] রাখিলেন, কেননা তিনি কহিলেন, আমার দুঃখভোগের দেশে ঈশ্বর আমাকে ফলবান্ করিয়াছেন।

The name of the second, he called Ephraim: "For God has made me fruitful in the land of my affliction."

পরে মিসর দেশে উপস্থিত শস্যবাহুল্যের সাত বৎসর শেষ হইল,

The seven years of plenty, that was in the land of Egypt, came to an end.

এবং যোষেফ যেমন বলিয়াছিলেন, তদনুসারে দুর্ভিক্ষের সাত বৎসর আরম্ভ হইল। সকল দেশে দুর্ভিক্ষ হইল, কিন্তু সমস্ত মিসর দেশে ভক্ষ্য ছিল।

The seven years of famine began to come, just as Joseph had said. There was famine in all lands, but in all the land of Egypt there was bread.

পরে সমস্ত মিসর দেশে দুর্ভিক্ষ হইলে প্রজারা ফরৌণের নিকটে ভক্ষ্যের জন্য ক্রন্দন করিল তাহাতে ফরৌণ মিস্রীয়দের সকলকে কহিলেন, তোমরা যোষেফের নিকটে যাও; তিনি তোমাদিগকে যাহা বলেন, তাহাই কর।

When all the land of Egypt was famished, the people cried to Pharaoh for bread, and Pharaoh said to all the Egyptians, "Go to Joseph. What he says to you, do."

তখন সমস্ত দেশেই দুর্ভিক্ষ হইয়াছিল। আর যোষেফ সকল স্থানের গোলা খুলিয়া মিস্রীয়দের কাছে শস্য বিক্রয় করিতে লাগিলেন; আর মিসর দেশে দুর্ভিক্ষ প্রবল হইয়া উঠিল।

The famine was over all the surface of the earth. Joseph opened all the store-houses, and sold to the Egyptians. The famine was severe in the land of Egypt.

এবং সর্ব্বদেশীয় লোকে মিসর দেশে যোষেফের নিকটে শস্য ক্রয় করিতে আসিল, কেননা সর্ব্বদেশেই দুর্ভিক্ষ প্রবল হইয়াছিল।

All countries came into Egypt, to Joseph, to buy grain, because the famine was severe in all the earth.
