পরে যাকোব চরণ তুলিয়া পূর্ব্বদিক্স্থ বংশীয়দের দেশে গমন করিলেন।

Then Jacob went on his journey, and came to the land of the children of the east.
2
তথায় দেখিলেন, মাঠের মধ্যে এক কূপ আছে, আর দেখ, তাহার নিকটে মেষের তিনটি পাল শয়ন করিয়া রহিয়াছে; কারণ লোকে মেষপাল সকলকে সেই কূপের জল পান করাইত; আর সেই কূপের মুখে এক বৃহৎ প্রস্তর ছিল।

He looked, and behold, a well in the field, and, behold, three flocks of sheep lying there by it. For out of that well they watered the flocks. The stone on the well's mouth was great.

সেই স্থানে পাল সকল একত্র করা হইলে লোকে কূপের মুখ হইতে প্রস্তরখান সরাইয়া মেষগণকে জল পান করাইত, পরে পুনর্ব্বার কূপের মুখে যথাস্থানে সেই প্রস্তর রাখিত।

There all the flocks were gathered. They rolled the stone from the well's mouth, and watered the sheep, and put the stone again on the well's mouth in its place.

আর যাকোব তাহাদিগকে বলিলেন, ভাই সকল, তোমরা কোন্ স্থানের লোক? তাহারা কহিল, আমরা হারণ-নিবাসী।

Jacob said to them, "My relatives, where are you from?" They said, "We are from Haran."
5
তখন তিনি বলিলেন, নাহোরের পৌত্র লাবনকে চিন কি না? তাহারা কহিল, চিনি।

He said to them, "Do you know Laban, the son of Nahor?" They said, "We know him."
6
তিনি বলিলেন, তাঁহার মঙ্গল ত? তাহারা কহিল, মঙ্গল; দেখ, তাঁহার কন্যা রাহেল মেষপাল লইয়া আসিতেছেন।

He said to them, "Is it well with him?" They said, "It is well. See, Rachel, his daughter, is coming with the sheep."

তখন তিনি বলিলেন, দেখ, এখনও অনেক বেলা আছে; পশুপাল একত্র করণের সময় হয় নাই; তোমরা মেষগণকে জল পান করাইয়া পুনর্ব্বার চরাইতে লইয়া যাও।

He said, "Behold, it is still the middle of the day, not time to gather the cattle together. Water the sheep, and go and feed them."

তাহারা কহিল, যতক্ষণ পাল সকল একত্র না হয়, ততক্ষণ আমরা তাহা করিতে পারি না; পরে কূপের মুখ হইতে প্রস্তরখান সরান যায়; তখন আমরা মেষদিগকে জল পান করাই।

They said, "We can't, until all the flocks are gathered together, and they roll the stone from the well's mouth. Then we water the sheep."

যাকোব তাহাদের সহিত এইরূপ কথাবার্ত্তা কহিতেছেন, এমন সময়ে রাহেল আপন পিতার মেষপাল লইয়া উপস্থিত হইলেন, কেননা তিনি মেষপালিকা ছিলেন।

While he was yet speaking with them, Rachel came with her father's sheep, for she kept them.

তখন যাকোব আপন মাতুল লাবনের কন্যা রাহেলকে ও মাতুলের মেষপালকে দেখিবামাত্র নিকটে গিয়া কূপের মুখ হইতে প্রস্তরখানা সরাইয়া তাঁহার মাতুল লাবনের মেষপালকে জল পান করাইলেন।

It happened, when Jacob saw Rachel the daughter of Laban, his mother's brother, and the sheep of Laban, his mother's brother, that Jacob went near, and rolled the stone from the well's mouth, and watered the flock of Laban his mother's brother.

পরে যাকোব রাহেলকে চুম্বন করিয়া উচ্চৈঃস্বরে রোদন করিতে লাগিলেন।

Jacob kissed Rachel, and lifted up his voice, and wept.
12
আর আপনি যে তাঁহার পিতার কুটুম্ব ও রিবিকার পুত্র, যাকোব রাহেলকে এই পরিচয় দিলে রাহেল দৌড়িয়া গিয়া আপন পিতাকে সংবাদ দিলেন।

Jacob told Rachel that he was her father's brother, and that he was Rebekah's son. She ran and told her father.

তাহাতে লাবন আপন ভাগিনেয় যাকােবের সংবাদ পাইয়া দৌড়িয়া তাঁহার সহিত সাক্ষাৎ করিতে গেলেন, তাঁহাকে আলিঙ্গন ও চুম্বন করিলেন, ও আপন বাটীতে লইয়া গেলেন; পরে তিনি লাবনকে উক্ত সমস্ত বৃত্তান্ত জ্ঞাত করিলেন।

It happened, when Laban heard the news of Jacob, his sister's son, that he ran to meet Jacob, and embraced him, and kissed him, and brought him to his house. Jacob told Laban all these things.

তাহাতে লাবন কহিলেন, তুমি নিতান্তই আমার অস্থি ও আমার মাংস। পরে যাকোব তাঁহার গৃহে এক মাস কাল বাস করিলেন।

Laban said to him, Surely you are my bone and my flesh. He lived with him for a month.
15
পরে লাবন যাকোবকে কহিলেন, তুমি কুটুম্ব বলিয়া কি বিনা বেতনে আমার দাস্যকর্ম্ম করিবে? বল দেখি, কি বেতন লইবে?

Laban said to Jacob, "Because you are my brother, should you therefore serve me for nothing? Tell me, what will your wages be?"
16
লাবনের দুই কন্যা ছিলেন; জ্যেষ্ঠার নাম লেয়া ও কনিষ্ঠার নাম রাহেল।

Laban had two daughters. The name of the elder was Leah, and the name of the younger was Rachel.
17
লেয়া মৃদুলোচনা, কিন্তু রাহেল রূপবতী ও সুন্দরী ছিলেন।
17
Leah's eyes were weak, but Rachel was beautiful and well favored.

আর যাকোব রাহেলকে ভাল বাসিতেন, এজন্য তিনি উত্তর করিলেন, আপনার কনিষ্ঠা কন্যা রাহেলের জন্য আমি সাত বৎসর আপনার দাস্যকর্ম্ম করিব।

Jacob loved Rachel. He said, "I will serve you seven years for Rachel, your younger daughter."
19
লাবন কহিলেন, অন্য পাত্রকে দান করা অপেক্ষা তোমাকে দান করা উত্তম বটে; আমার নিকটে থাক।

Laban said, "It is better that I give her to you, than that I should give her to another man. Stay with me."
20
এইরূপে যাকোব রাহেলের জন্য সাত বৎসর দাস্যকর্ম্ম করিলেন; রাহেলের প্রতি তাঁহার অনুরাগ প্রযুক্ত এক এক বৎসর তাঁহার কাছে এক এক দিন মনে হইল।

Jacob served seven years for Rachel. They seemed to him but a few days, for the love he had for her.
21
পরে যাকোব লাবনকে কহিলেন, আমার নিয়মিত কাল সম্পূর্ণ হইল, এখন আমার ভার্য্যা আমাকে দিউন, আমি তাহার কাছে গমন করিব।

Jacob said to Laban, "Give me my wife, for my days are fulfilled, that I may go in to her."
22
তখন লাবন ঐ স্থানের সকল লোককে একত্র করিয়া ভোজ প্রস্তুত করিলেন।

Laban gathered together all the men of the place, and made a feast.
23
আর সন্ধ্যাকালে তিনি আপন কন্যা লেয়াকে লইয়া তাঁহার নিকট আনিয়া দিলেন, আর যাকোব তাঁহার কাছে গমন করিলেন।

It happened in the evening, that he took Leah his daughter, and brought her to him. He went in to her.
24
আর লাবন সিল্পা নাম্নী আপন দাসীকে আপন কন্যা লেয়ার দাসী বলিয়া তাঁহাকে দিলেন।

Laban gave Zilpah his handmaid to his daughter Leah for a handmaid.
25
আর প্রভাত হইলে, দেখ, তিনি লেয়া। তাহাতে যাকোব লাবনকে কহিলেন, আপনি আমার সহিত এ কি ব্যবহার করিলেন? আমি কি রাহেলের জন্য আপনার দাস্যকর্ম্ম করি নাই? তবে কেন আমাকে প্রবঞ্চনা করিলেন?

It happened in the morning that, behold, it was Leah. He said to Laban, "What is this you have done to me? Didn't I serve with you for Rachel? Why then have you deceived me?"
26
তখন লাবন কহিলেন, জ্যেষ্ঠার অগ্রে কনিষ্ঠাকে দান করা আমাদের এই স্থানে অকর্ত্তব্য।

Laban said, "It is not done so in our place, to give the younger before the first born.
27
তুমি ইহার সপ্তাহ পূর্ণ কর; পরে আরও সাত বৎসর আমার দাস্যকর্ম্ম স্বীকার করিবে, সেজন্য আমরা উহাকেও তোমাকে দান করিব।

Fulfill the week of this one, and we will give you the other also for the service which you will serve with me yet seven other years."
28
তাহাতে যাকোব সেই প্রকার করিলেন, তাঁহার সপ্তাহ পূর্ণ করিলেন; পরে লাবন তাঁহার সহিত আপন কন্যা রাহেলের বিবাহ দিলেন।

Jacob did so, and fulfilled her week. He gave him Rachel his daughter as wife.
29
আর লাবন বিল্হা নাম্নী আপন দাসীকে রাহেলের দাসী বলিয়া তাঁহাকে দিলেন।

Laban gave to Rachel his daughter Bilhah, his handmaid, to be her handmaid.
30
তখন তিনি রাহেলের কাছেও গমন করিলেন, এবং লেয়া অপেক্ষা রাহেলকে অধিক ভাল বাসিলেন; এবং আর সাত বৎসর লাবনের নিকট দাস্যকর্ম্ম করিলেন।

He went in also to Rachel, and he loved also Rachel more than Leah, and served with him yet seven other years.

পরে সদাপ্রভু লেয়াকে অবজ্ঞাতা দেখিয়া তাঁহার গর্ভ মুক্ত করিলেন, কিন্তু রাহেল বন্ধ্যা হইলেন।

Yahweh saw that Leah was hated, and he opened her womb, but Rachel was barren.

আর লেয়া গর্ভবতী হইয়া পুত্র প্রসব করিলেন, ও তাহার নাম রূবেণ [পুত্রকে দেখ] রাখিলেন; কেননা তিনি কহিলেন, সদাপ্রভু আমার দুঃখ দেখিয়াছেন; এখন আমার স্বামী আমাকে ভাল বাসিবেন।

Leah conceived, and bore a son, and she named him Reuben. For she said, "Because Yahweh has looked at my affliction. For now my husband will love me."

পরে তিনি পুনর্ব্বার গর্ভবতী হইয়া পুত্র প্রসব করিয়া কহিলেন, সদাপ্রভু শুনিয়াছেন যে, আমি ঘৃণার পাত্রী, তাই আমাকে এই পুত্রও দিলেন; আর তাহার নাম শিমিয়োন [শ্রবণ] রাখিলেন।

She conceived again, and bare a son, and said, "Because Yahweh has heard that I am hated, he has therefore given me this son also." She named him Simeon.

আবার তিনি গর্ভবতী হইয়া পুত্র প্রসব করিয়া কহিলেন, এ বার আমার স্বামী আমাতে আসক্ত হইবেন, কেননা আমি তাঁহার জন্য তিন পুত্র প্রসব করিয়াছি; অতএব তাহার নাম লেবি [আসক্ত] রাখা গেল।

She conceived again, and bare a son. Said, "Now this time will my husband be joined to me, because I have borne him three sons." Therefore was his name called Levi.

পরে পুনর্ব্বার তাঁহার গর্ভ হইলে তিনি পুত্র প্রসব করিয়া কহিলেন, এ বার আমি সদাপ্রভুর স্তব গান করি; অতএব তিনি তাহার নাম যিহূদা [স্তব] রাখিলেন। তৎপরে তাঁহার গর্ভনিবৃত্তি হইল।

She conceived again, and bare a son. She said, "This time will I praise Yahweh." Therefore she named him Judah. Then she stopped bearing.
