পরে সদাপ্রভু মম্রির এলোন বনের নিকটে তাঁহাকে দর্শন দিলেন। তিনি দিনের উত্তাপ সময়ে তাম্বুদ্বারে বসিয়াছিলেন;

Yahweh appeared to him by the oaks of Mamre, as he sat in the tent door in the heat of the day.

আর চক্ষু তুলিয়া দৃষ্টি করিলেন, আর দেখ, তিনটী পুরুষ সম্মুখে দণ্ডায়মান। দেখিবামাত্র তিনি তাম্বুদ্বার হইতে তাঁহাদের নিকট দৌড়িয়া গিয়া ভূমিতে প্রণিপাত করিয়া কহিলেন,

He lifted up his eyes and looked, and saw that three men stood opposite him. When he saw them, he ran to meet them from the tent door, and bowed himself to the earth,

হে প্রভো, বিনয় করি, যদি আমি আপনার দৃষ্টিতে অনুগ্রহের পাত্র হইয়া থাকি, তবে আপনার এই দাসের নিকট হইতে অগ্রসর হইবেন না।

and said, "My lord, if now I have found favor in your sight, please don't go away from your servant.
4
বিনয় করি, কিঞ্চিৎ জল আনাইয়া দিই, আপনারা পা ধুইয়া এই বৃক্ষতলে বিশ্রাম করুন,

Now let a little water be fetched, wash your feet, and rest yourselves under the tree.
5
এবং কিছু খাদ্য আনিয়া দিই, তাহা দ্বারা প্রাণ আপ্যায়িত করুন, পরে পথে অগ্রসর হইবেন; কেননা ইহারই নিমিত্তে আপন দাসের নিকটে আগত হইলেন। তখন তাঁহারা কহিলেন, যাহা বলিলে, তাহাই কর।

I will get a morsel of bread so you can refresh your heart. After that you may go your way, now that you have come to your servant." They said, "Very well, do as you have said."

তাহাতে অব্রাহাম ত্বরা করিয়া তাম্বুতে সারার নিকটে গিয়া কহিলেন, শীঘ্র তিন মাণ উত্তম ময়দা লইয়া ছানিয়া পিষ্টক প্রস্তুত কর।

Abraham hurried into the tent to Sarah, and said, "Quickly make ready three measures of fine meal, knead it, and make cakes."

পরে অব্রাহাম ত্বরায় বাথানে গিয়া উৎকৃষ্ট কোমল এক গোবৎস লইয়া দাসকে দিলে সে তাহা শীঘ্র পাক করিল।

Abraham ran to the herd, and fetched a tender and good calf, and gave it to the servant. He hurried to dress it.

তখন তিনি দধি, দুগ্ধ ও পক্ব মাংস লইয়া তাঁহাদের সম্মুখে দিলেন, এবং তাঁহাদের নিকটে বৃক্ষতলে দাঁড়াইলেন, ও তাঁহারা ভোজন করিলেন।

He took butter, milk, and the calf which he had dressed, and set it before them. He stood by them under the tree, and they ate.

আর তাঁহারা তাঁহাকে জিজ্ঞাসা করিলেন, তোমার স্ত্রী সারা কোথায়? তিনি কহিলেন, দেখুন, তিনি তাম্বুতে আছেন।

They said to him, "Where is Sarah, your wife? He said, "See, in the tent."
10
তাহাতে তাঁহাদের এক ব্যক্তি কহিলেন, এই ঋতু পুনরায় উপস্থিত হইলে আমি অবশ্য তোমার কাছে ফিরিয়া আসিব; আর দেখ, তোমার স্ত্রী সারার এক পুত্র হইবে। এই কথা সারা তাম্বুদ্বারে তাঁহার পশ্চাৎ থাকিয়া শুনিলেন।

He said, "I will certainly return to you when the season comes round. Behold, Sarah your wife will have a son." Sarah heard in the tent door, which was behind him.

সেই সময়ে অব্রাহাম ও সারা বৃদ্ধ ও গতবয়স্ক ছিলেন; সারার স্ত্রীধর্ম্ম নিবৃত্ত হইয়াছিল।

Now Abraham and Sarah were old, well advanced in age. It had ceased to be with Sarah after the manner of women.

অতএব সারা মনে মনে হাসিয়া কহিলেন, আমার এই শীর্ণ দশার পরে কি এমন আনন্দ হইবে? আমার প্রভুও ত বৃদ্ধ।

Sarah laughed within herself, saying, "After I have grown old will I have pleasure, my lord being old also?"

তখন সদাপ্রভু অব্রাহামকে কহিলেন, সারা কেন এই বলিয়া হাসিল যে, আমি কি সত্যই প্রসব করিব, আমি যে বুড়ী?

Yahweh said to Abraham, "Why did Sarah laugh, saying, 'Will I really bear a child, yet I am old?'
14
কোন কর্ম্ম কি সদাপ্রভুর অসাধ্য? নিরূপিত সময়ে এই ঋতু আবার উপস্থিত হইলে আমি তোমার কাছে ফিরিয়া আসিব, আর সারার পুত্র হইবে।

Is anything too hard for Yahweh? At the set time I will return to you, when the season comes round, and Sarah will have a son."
15
তাহাতে সারা অস্বীকার করিয়া কহিলেন, আমি হাসি নাই; কেননা তিনি ভয় পাইয়াছিলেন। কিন্তু তিনি কহিলেন, অবশ্য হাসিয়াছিলে।

Then Sarah denied, saying, "I didn't laugh," for she was afraid." He said, "No, but you did laugh."
16
পরে সেই ব্যক্তিরা তথা হইতে উঠিয়া সদোমের দিকে দৃষ্টি করিলেন, আর অব্রাহাম তাঁহাদিগকে বিদায় দিতে তাঁহাদের সঙ্গে সঙ্গে চলিলেন।

The men rose up from there, and looked toward Sodom. Abraham went with them to see them on their way.
17
তাহাতে সদাপ্রভু কহিলেন, আমি যাহা করিব, তাহা কি অব্রাহাম হইতে লুকাইব?
17
Yahweh said, "Will I hide from Abraham what I do,
18
অব্রাহাম হইতে মহতী ও বলবতী এক জাতি উৎপন্ন হইবে, এবং পৃথিবীর যাবতীয় জাতি তাহাতেই আশীর্ব্বাদ প্রাপ্ত হইবে।

seeing that Abraham has surely become a great and mighty nation, and all the nations of the earth will be blessed in him?
19
কেননা আমি তাহাকে জানিয়াছি, যেন সে আপন ভাবী সন্তানগণকে ও পরিবারদিগকে আদেশ করে, যেন তাহারা ধর্ম্মসঙ্গত ও ন্যায্য আচরণ করিতে করিতে সদাপ্রভুর পথে চলে; এইরূপে সদাপ্রভু যেন অব্রাহামের বিষয়ে কথিত আপনার বাক্য সফল করেন।

For I have known him, to the end that he may command his children and his household after him, that they may keep the way of Yahweh, to do righteousness and justice; to the end that Yahweh may bring on Abraham that which he has spoken of him."
20
পরে সদাপ্রভু কহিলেন, সদোমের ও ঘমোরার ক্রন্দন আত্যন্তিক, এবং তাহাদের পাপ অতিশয় ভারী;
20
Yahweh said, "Because the cry of Sodom and Gomorrah is great, and because their sin is very grievous,
21
আমি নীচে গিয়া দেখিব, আমার নিকটে আগত ক্রন্দনানুসারে তাহারা সর্ব্বতোভাবে করিয়াছে কি না; যদি না করিয়া থাকে, তাহা জানিব।
21
I will go down now, and see whether they have done altogether according to the cry of it, which is come to me. If not, I will know."
22
পরে সেই ব্যক্তিরা তথা হইতে ফিরিয়া সদোমের দিকে গমন করিলেন; কিন্তু অব্রাহাম তখনও সদাপ্রভুর সাক্ষাতে দণ্ডায়মান থাকিলেন।

The men turned from there, and went toward Sodom, but Abraham stood yet before Yahweh.
23
পরে অব্রাহাম নিকটে গিয়া কহিলেন, আপনি কি দুষ্টের সহিত ধার্ম্মিককেও সংহার করিবেন?

Abraham drew near, and said, "Will you consume the righteous with the wicked?
24
সেই নগরের মধ্যে যদি পঞ্চাশ জন ধার্ম্মিক পাওয়া যায়, তবে আপনি কি তথাকার পঞ্চাশ জন ধার্ম্মিকের অনুরোধে সেই স্থানের প্রতি দয়া না করিয়া তাহা বিনষ্ট করিবেন?

What if there are fifty righteous within the city? Will you consume and not spare the place for the fifty righteous who are therein?
25
দুষ্টের সহিত ধার্ম্মিকের বিনাশ করা, এই প্রকার কর্ম্ম আপনা হইতে দূরে থাকুক; ধার্ম্মিককে দুষ্টের সমান করা আপনা হইতে দূরে থাকুক। সমস্ত পৃথিবীর বিচারকর্ত্তা কি ন্যায়বিচার করিবেন না?

Be it far from you to do things like that, to kill the righteous with the wicked, that so the righteous should be as the wicked. May that be far from you. Shouldn't the Judge of all the earth do right?"

সদাপ্রভু কহিলেন, আমি যদি সদোমের মধ্যে পঞ্চাশ জন ধার্ম্মিক দেখি, তবে তাহাদের অনুরোধে সেই সমস্ত স্থানের প্রতি দয়া করিব।

Yahweh said, "If I find in Sodom fifty righteous within the city, then I will spare all the place for their sake."
27
অব্রাহাম উত্তর করিয়া কহিলেন, দেখুন ধূলি ও ভস্মমাত্র যে আমি, আমি প্রভুর সঙ্গে কথা কহিতে সাহসী হইয়াছি।

Abraham answered, "See now, I have taken it on myself to speak to the Lord, who am but dust and ashes.
28
কি জানি, পঞ্চাশ জন ধার্ম্মিকের পাঁচ জন ন্যূন হইবে; সেই পাঁচ জনের অভাব প্রযুক্ত আপনি কি সমস্ত নগর বিনষ্ট করিবেন? তিনি কহিলেন, সেই স্থানে পঁয়তাল্লিশ জন পাইলে আমি তাহা বিনষ্ট করিব না।

What if there will lack five of the fifty righteous? Will you destroy all the city for lack of five?" He said, "I will not destroy it, if I find forty-five there."
29
তিনি তাঁহাকে আবার কহিলেন, বলিলেন, সে স্থানে যদি চল্লিশ জন পাওয়া যায়? তিনি কহিলেন, সেই চল্লিশ জনের অনুরোধে তাহা করিব না।

He spoke to him yet again, and said, "What if there are forty found there?" He said, "I will not do it for the forty's sake."
30
আবার তিনি কহিলেন, প্রভু বিরক্ত হইবেন না, আমি আরও কহি; যদি সেখানে ত্রিশ জন পাওয়া যায়? তিনি কহিলেন, সেখানে ত্রিশ জন পাইলে তাহা করিব না।

He said, "Oh don't let the Lord be angry, and I will speak. What if there are thirty found there?" He said, "I will not do it, if I find thirty there."
31
তিনি কহিলেন, দেখুন, প্রভুর কাছে আমি সাহসী হইয়া পুনর্ব্বার বলি, যদি সেখানে বিংশতি জন পাওয়া যায়? তিনি কহিলেন, সেই বিংশতি জনের অনুরোধে তাহা বিনষ্ট করিব না।

He said, "See now, I have taken it on myself to speak to the Lord. What if there are twenty found there?" He said, "I will not destroy it for the twenty's sake."
32
তিনি কহিলেন, প্রভু ক্রুদ্ধ হইবেন না, আমি কেবল আর এই এক বার বলি; যদি সেখানে দশ জন পাওয়া যায়? তিনি কহিলেন, সেই দশ জনের অনুরোধে তাহা বিনষ্ট করিব না।

He said, "Oh don't let the Lord be angry, and I will speak yet but this once. What if ten are found there?" He said, "I will not destroy it for the ten's sake."
33
তখন সদাপ্রভু অব্রাহামের সহিত কথোপকথন সমাপন করিয়া প্রস্থান করিলেন; এবং অব্রাহাম স্বস্থানে ফিরিয়া আসিলেন।

Yahweh went his way, as soon as he had finished communing with Abraham, and Abraham returned to his place.
