1সমস্ত পৃথিবীতে এক ভাষা ও একরূপ কথা ছিল।
1The whole earth was of one language and of one speech.
2পরে লোকেরা পূর্ব্বদিকে ভ্রমণ করিতে করিতে শিনিয়র দেশে এক সমস্থলী পাইয়া সে স্থানে বসতি করিল;
2It happened, as they traveled east, that they found a plain in the land of Shinar; and they lived there.
3আর পরস্পর কহিল, আইস, আমরা ইষ্টক নির্ম্মাণ করিয়া অগ্নিতে দগ্ধ করি; তাহাতে ইষ্টক তাহাদের প্রস্তর ও মেটিয়া তৈল চূণ হইল।
3They said one to another, "Come, let's make brick, and burn them thoroughly." They had brick for stone, and they used tar for mortar.
4পরে তাহারা কহিল, আইস, আমরা আপনাদের নিমিত্তে এক নগর ও গণনস্পর্শী এক উচ্চগৃহ নির্ম্মাণ করিয়া আপনাদের নাম বিখ্যাত করি, পাছে সমস্ত ভূমণ্ডলে ছিন্নভিন্ন হই।
4They said, "Come, let's build us a city, and a tower, whose top reaches to the sky, and let's make us a name; lest we be scattered abroad on the surface of the whole earth."
5পরে মনুষ্য-সন্তানেরা যে নগর ও উচ্চগৃহ নির্ম্মাণ করিতেছিল, তাহা দেখিতে সদাপ্রভু নামিয়া আসিলেন।
5Yahweh came down to see the city and the tower, which the children of men built.
6আর সদাপ্রভু কহিলেন, দেখ, তাহারা সকলে এক জাতি ও এক ভাষাবাদী; এখন এই কর্ম্মে প্রবৃত্ত হইল; ইহার পরে যে কিছু করিতে সঙ্কল্প করিবে, তাহা হইতে নিবারিত হইবে না।
6Yahweh said, "Behold, they are one people, and they have all one language; and this is what they begin to do. Now nothing will be withheld from them, which they intend to do.
7আইস, আমরা নীচে গিয়া, সেই স্থানে তাহাদের ভাষার ভেদ জন্মাই, যেন তাহারা এক জন অন্যের ভাষা বুঝিতে না পারে।
7Come, let's go down, and there confuse their language, that they may not understand one another's speech."
8অার সদাপ্রভু তথা হইতে সমস্ত ভূমণ্ডলে তাহাদিগকে ছিন্নভিন্ন করিলেন, এবং তাহারা নগর পত্তন হইতে নিবৃত্ত হইল।
8So Yahweh scattered them abroad from there on the surface of all the earth. They stopped building the city.
9এই জন্য সেই নগরের নাম বাবিল [ভেদ] থাকিল; কেননা সেই স্থানে সদাপ্রভু সমস্ত পৃথিবীর ভাষার ভেদ জন্মাইয়াছিলেন, এবং তথা হইতে সদাপ্রভু তাহাদিগকে সমস্ত ভূমণ্ডলে ছিন্নভিন্ন করিয়াছিলেন।
9Therefore the name of it was called Babel, because Yahweh confused the language of all the earth, there. From there, Yahweh scattered them abroad on the surface of all the earth.
10শেমের বংশ-বৃত্তান্ত এই। শেম এক শত বৎসর বয়সে, জলপ্লাবনের দুই বৎসর পরে, অর্ফক্‌ষদের জন্ম দিলেন।
10This is the history of the generations of Shem. Shem was one hundred years old, and became the father of Arpachshad two years after the flood.
11অর্ফক্‌ষদের জন্ম দিলে পর শেম পাঁচ শত বৎসর জীবৎ থাকিয়া আরও পুত্রকন্যার জন্ম দিলেন।
11Shem lived after he became the father of Arpachshad five hundred years, and became the father of sons and daughters.
12অর্ফক্‌ষদ পঁয়ত্রিশ বৎসর বয়সে শেলহের জন্ম দিলেন।
12Arpachshad lived thirty-five years, and became the father of Shelah.
13শেলহের জন্ম দিলে পর অর্ফক্‌ষদ চারি শত তিন বৎসর জীবৎ থাকিয়া আরও পুত্রকন্যার জন্ম দিলেন।
13Arpachshad lived after he became the father of Shelah four hundred three years, and became the father of sons and daughters.
14শেলহ ত্রিশ বৎসর বয়সে এবরের জন্ম দিলেন।
14Shelah lived thirty years, and became the father of Eber:
15এবরের জন্ম দিলে পর শেলহ চারি শত তিন বৎসর জীবৎ থাকিয়া আরও পুত্রকন্যার জন্ম দিলেন।
15and Shelah lived after he became the father of Eber four hundred three years, and became the father of sons and daughters.
16এবর চৌত্রিশ বৎসর বয়সে পেলগের জন্ম দিলেন।
16Eber lived thirty-four years, and became the father of Peleg.
17পেলগের জন্ম দিলে পর এবর চারি শত ত্রিশ বৎসর জীবৎ থাকিয়া আরও পুত্রকন্যার জন্ম দিলেন।
17Eber lived after he became the father of Peleg four hundred thirty years, and became the father of sons and daughters.
18পেলগ ত্রিশ বৎসর বয়সে রিয়ূর জন্ম দিলেন।
18Peleg lived thirty years, and became the father of Reu.
19রিয়ূর জন্ম দিলে পর পেলগ দুই শত নয় বৎসর জীবৎ থাকিয়া আরও পুত্রকন্যার জন্ম দিলেন।
19Peleg lived after he became the father of Reu two hundred nine years, and became the father of sons and daughters.
20রিয়ূ বত্রিশ বৎসর বয়সে সরূগের জন্ম দিলেন।
20Reu lived thirty-two years, and became the father of Serug.
21সরূগের জন্ম দিলে পর রিয়ূ দুই শত সপ্ত বৎসর জীবৎ থাকিয়া আরও পুত্রকন্যার জন্ম দিলেন।
21Reu lived after he became the father of Serug two hundred seven years, and became the father of sons and daughters.
22সরূগ ত্রিশ বৎসর বয়সে নাহোরের জন্ম দিলেন।
22Serug lived thirty years, and became the father of Nahor.
23নাহোরের জন্ম দিলে পর সরূগ দুই শত বৎসর জীবৎ থাকিয়া আরও পুত্রকন্যার জন্ম দিলেন।
23Serug lived after he became the father of Nahor two hundred years, and became the father of sons and daughters.
24নাহোর ঊনত্রিশ বৎসর বয়সে তেরহের জন্ম দিলেন।
24Nahor lived twenty-nine years, and became the father of Terah.
25তেরহের জন্ম দিলে পর নাহোর এক শত ঊনিশ বৎসর জীবৎ থাকিয়া আরও পুত্রকন্যার জন্ম দিলেন।
25Nahor lived after he became the father of Terah one hundred nineteen years, and became the father of sons and daughters.
26তেরহ সত্তর বৎসর বয়সে অব্রাম, নাহোর ও হারণের জন্ম দিলেন।
26Terah lived seventy years, and became the father of Abram, Nahor, and Haran.
27তেরহের বংশ-বৃত্তান্ত এই। তেরহ অব্রাম, নাহোর ও হারণের জন্ম দিলেন।
27Now this is the history of the generations of Terah. Terah became the father of Abram, Nahor, and Haran. Haran became the father of Lot.
28আর হারণ লোটের জন্ম দিলেন। কিন্তু হারণ আপন পিতা তেরহের সাক্ষাতে আপন জন্মস্থান কল্‌দীয় দেশের ঊরে প্রাণত্যাগ করিলেন।
28Haran died before his father Terah in the land of his birth, in Ur of the Chaldees.
29অব্রাম ও নাহোর উভয়েই বিবাহ করিলেন; অব্রামের স্ত্রীর নাম সারী, ও নাহোরের স্ত্রীর নাম মিল্‌কা। এই স্ত্রী হারণের কন্যা; হারণ মিল্‌কার ও যিষ্কার পিতা।
29Abram and Nahor took wives. The name of Abram's wife was Sarai, and the name of Nahor's wife, Milcah, the daughter of Haran who was also the father of Iscah.
30সারী বন্ধ্যা ছিলেন, তাঁহার সন্তান হইল না।
30Sarai was barren. She had no child.
31আর তেরহ আপন পুত্র অব্রামকে ও হারণের পুত্র আপন পৌত্র লোটকে এবং অব্রামের স্ত্রী সারী নাম্নী পুত্রবধূকে সঙ্গে লইলেন; তাঁহারা একসঙ্গে কনান দেশে যাইবার নিমিত্তে কল্‌দীয় দেশের ঊর হইতে যাত্রা করিলেন; আর হারণ নগর পর্য্যন্ত গিয়া তথায় বসতি করিলেন।
31Terah took Abram his son, Lot the son of Haran, his son's son, and Sarai his daughter-in-law, his son Abram's wife. They went forth from Ur of the Chaldees, to go into the land of Canaan. They came to Haran, and lived there.
32পরে তেরহের দুই শত পাঁচ বৎসর বয়স হইলে ঐ হারণে তাঁহার মৃত্যু হইল।
32The days of Terah were two hundred five years. Terah died in Haran.
