1পরে যিহূদার ও বিন্যামীনের বিপক্ষগণ শুনিল যে, বন্দিদশা হইতে আগত লোকেরা ইস্রায়েলের ঈশ্বর সদাপ্রভুর উদ্দেশে মন্দির নির্ম্মাণ করিতেছে;
1Now when the adversaries of Judah and Benjamin heard that the children of the captivity were building a temple to Yahweh, the God of Israel;
2তখন তাহারা সরুব্বাবিলের ও পিতৃকুলপতিদের নিকটে আসিয়া তাঁহাদিগকে কহিল, তোমাদের সহিত আমারাও গাঁথি, কেননা তোমাদের ন্যায় আমরাও তোমাদের ঈশ্বরের অন্বেষণ করি; আর যে অশূর-রাজ এসর-হদ্দোন আমাদিগকে এই স্থানে আনিয়াছিলেন, তাঁহার সময়াবধি আমরা তাঁহারই উদ্দেশে যজ্ঞ করিয়া আসিতেছি।
2then they drew near to Zerubbabel, and to the heads of fathers' houses, and said to them, Let us build with you; for we seek your God, as you do; and we sacrifice to him since the days of Esar Haddon king of Assyria, who brought us up here.
3কিন্তু সরুব্বাবিল, যেশূয় ও ইস্রায়েলের অন্য সকল পিতৃকুলপতি তাহাদিগকে কহিলেন, আমাদের ঈশ্বরের উদ্দেশে গৃহ নির্ম্মাণ করিবার বিষয়ে আমাদের সহিত তোমাদের সম্পর্ক নাই; কিন্তু কোরস রাজা, পারস্য-রাজ, আমাদিগকে যাহা আজ্ঞা করিয়াছেন, তদনুসারে কেবল আমরাই ইস্রায়েলের ঈশ্বর সদাপ্রভুর উদ্দেশে নির্ম্মাণ করিব।
3But Zerubbabel, and Jeshua, and the rest of the heads of fathers' houses of Israel, said to them, You have nothing to do with us in building a house to our God; but we ourselves together will build to Yahweh, the God of Israel, as king Cyrus the king of Persia has commanded us.
4তখন দেশের লোকেরা যিহূদার লোকদের হস্ত দুর্ব্বল করিতে ও নির্ম্মাণ-ব্যাপারে তাহাদিগকে উদ্বিগ্ন করিতে লাগিল;
4Then the people of the land weakened the hands of the people of Judah, and troubled them in building,
5এবং তাহাদের অভিপ্রায় ব্যর্থ করিবার জন্য পারস্য-রাজ কোরসের সমস্ত জীবনকাল ব্যাপিয়া ও পারস্য-রাজ দারিয়াবসের রাজত্বপ্রাপ্তি পর্য্যন্ত টাকা দিয়া তাহাদের বিরুদ্ধে মন্ত্রণাকারী নিযুক্ত করিত।
5and hired counselors against them, to frustrate their purpose, all the days of Cyrus king of Persia, even until the reign of Darius king of Persia.
6অহশ্বেরশের রাজত্বকালে, তাঁহার রাজত্বের আরম্ভকালে, লোকেরা যিহূদা ও যিরূশালেম-নিবাসীদের বিরুদ্ধে এক অভিযোগ-পত্র লিখিল।
6In the reign of Ahasuerus, in the beginning of his reign, wrote they an accusation against the inhabitants of Judah and Jerusalem.
7আর অর্তক্ষস্তের সময়ে বিশ্লম, মিত্রদাৎ, টাবেল ও তাহার অন্য সঙ্গীরা পারস্যের অর্তক্ষস্ত রাজার কাছে এক পত্র লিখিল, তাহা অরামীয় অক্ষরে লিপিবদ্ধ ও অরামীয় ভাষায় বিরচিত হইয়াছিল।
7In the days of Artaxerxes wrote Bishlam, Mithredath, Tabeel, and the rest of his companions, to Artaxerxes king of Persia; and the writing of the letter was written in the Syrian character, and set forth in the Syrian language.
8রহূম মন্ত্রী ও শিম্‌শয় লেখক যিরূশালেমের বিরুদ্ধে অর্তক্ষস্ত রাজার নিকটে এই মর্ম্মে পত্র লিখিল;
8Rehum the chancellor and Shimshai the scribe wrote a letter against Jerusalem to Artaxerxes the king in this sort:
9“রহূম মন্ত্রী ও শিম্‌শয় লেখক ও তাহাদের সঙ্গী অন্য সকলে, অর্থাৎ দীনীয়, অফর্সৎখীয় টর্পলীয়, অফর্সীয়, অর্কবীয়, বাবিলীয়, শূশন্‌খীয়, দেহবীয়,
9then wrote Rehum the chancellor, and Shimshai the scribe, and the rest of their companions, the Dinaites, and the Apharsathchites, the Tarpelites, the Apharsites, the Archevites, the Babylonians, the Shushanchites, the Dehaites, the Elamites,
10ও এলমীয় লোকেরা, এবং মহামহিম সম্ভ্রান্ত অস্নপ্পর কর্ত্তৃক আনীত ও শমরিয়ার নগরে এবং [ফরাৎ] নদীর পারস্থ অন্য সকল দেশে স্থাপিত অন্য সকল জাতি, ইত্যাদি।”
10and the rest of the nations whom the great and noble Osnappar brought over, and set in the city of Samaria, and in the rest of the country beyond the River, and so forth.
11তাহারা অর্তক্ষস্ত রাজার নিকটে সেই যে পত্র পাঠাইল, তাহার অনুলিপি এই; “[ফরাৎ] নদীর পারস্থ আপনার দাসেরা, ইত্যাদি।
11This is the copy of the letter that they sent to Artaxerxes the king: Your servants the men beyond the River, and so forth.
12মহারাজের নিকটে এই নিবেদন; যিহূদীরা আপনার নিকট হইতে আমাদের এখানে যিরূশালেমে আসিয়াছে; তাহারা সেই বিদ্রোহী মন্দ নগর নির্ম্মাণ করিতেছে; প্রাচীর সমাপ্ত করিয়াছে, ভিত্তিমূল মেরামৎ করিয়াছে।
12Be it known to the king, that the Jews who came up from you are come to us to Jerusalem; they are building the rebellious and the bad city, and have finished the walls, and repaired the foundations.
13অতএব মহারাজের নিকটে নিবেদন এই, যদি এই নগর নির্ম্মিত ও প্রাচীর স্থাপিত হয়, তবে ঐ লোকেরা কর, রাজস্ব ও মাশুল আর দিবে না, ইহাতে পরিণামে রাজসরকারের ক্ষতি হইবে।
13Be it known now to the king that if this city is built, and the walls finished, they will not pay tribute, custom, or toll, and in the end it will be hurtful to the kings.
14আমরা রাজবাটীর লবণ খাইয়া থাকি, অতএব মহারাজের অপমান দেখা আমাদের উচিত নয়, এই জন্য লোক পাঠাইয়া মহারাজকে জ্ঞাত করিলাম।
14Now because we eat the salt of the palace, and it is not appropriate for us to see the king's dishonor, therefore have we sent and informed the king;
15আপনার পিতৃপুরুষদের ইতিহাস-পুস্তকে অনুসন্ধান করা হউক; সেই ইতিহাস-পুস্তকে দেখিয়া জানিতে পারিবেন, এই নগর বিদ্রোহী নগর এবং রাজাদের ও প্রদেশ সকলের পক্ষে অনিষ্টকর, আর এই নগরে পুরাকালাবধি উপপ্লব হইয়া আসিতেছিল, সেই জন্যই এই নগর বিনষ্ট হয়।
15that search may be made in the book of the records of your fathers: so shall you find in the book of the records, and know that this city is a rebellious city, and hurtful to kings and provinces, and that they have moved sedition within the same of old time; for which cause was this city laid waste.
16আমরা মহারাজকে জ্ঞাত করিলাম, যদি এই নগর নির্ম্মিত ও ইহার প্রাচীর স্থাপিত হয়, তবে এতদ্দ্বারা নদীর এপারে আপনার কিছু অধিকার থাকিবে না।”
16We inform the king that, if this city be built, and the walls finished, by this means you shall have no portion beyond the River.
17রাজা রহূম মন্ত্রীকে, শিম্‌শয় লেখককে ও শমরিয়ানিবাসী তাহাদের অন্য সঙ্গীদিগকে এবং নদী-পারস্থ অন্য লোকদিগকে উত্তরে লিখিলেন, “মঙ্গল হউক ইত্যাদি।
17Then sent the king an answer to Rehum the chancellor, and to Shimshai the scribe, and to the rest of their companions who dwell in Samaria, and in the rest of the country beyond the River: Peace, and so forth.
18তোমরা আমাদের কাছে যে পত্র পাঠাইয়াছ, তাহা আমার সম্মুখে স্পষ্টরূপে পঠিত হইয়াছে।
18The letter which you sent to us has been plainly read before me.
19আমার আজ্ঞায় অনুসন্ধান হইল ও জানা গেল, পুরাকালাবধি সেই নগর রাজদ্রোহ করিয়া আসিতেছিল, এবং তথায় বিদ্রোহ ও উপপ্লব হইত।
19I decreed, and search has been made, and it is found that this city of old time has made insurrection against kings, and that rebellion and sedition have been made therein.
20আর যিরূশালেমে পরাক্রমী রাজগণও ছিলেন, তাঁহারা নদীপারস্থ সকলের উপরে রাজত্ব করিতেন, এবং তাঁহাদিগকে কর, রাজস্ব ও মাশুল দেওয়া হইত।
20There have been mighty kings also over Jerusalem, who have ruled over all the country beyond the River; and tribute, custom, and toll, was paid to them.
21সেই লোকদিগকে নিবৃত্ত থাকিতে, এবং যত দিন আমাহইতে কোন আজ্ঞা প্রচারিত না হয়, তত দিন ঐ নগর নির্ম্মাণ রহিত করিতে আজ্ঞা দেও।
21Make you now a decree to cause these men to cease, and that this city not be built, until a decree shall be made by me.
22সাবধান, এই কার্য্যে তোমরা শিথিল হইও না; রাজ-সরকারের ক্ষতিজনক অপচয় কেন হইবে?”
22Take heed that you not be slack herein: why should damage grow to the hurt of the kings?
23পরে রহূমের শিম্‌শয় লেখকের ও তাহাদের সঙ্গী লোকদের কাছে অর্তক্ষস্ত রাজার পত্র পাঠ হইবামাত্র তাহারা শীঘ্র যিরূশালেমে যিহূদীদের নিকটে গিয়া হস্ত ও বলপ্রয়োগে তাহাদিগকে ঐ কর্ম্ম হইতে নিবৃত্ত করিল।
23Then when the copy of king Artaxerxes' letter was read before Rehum, and Shimshai the scribe, and their companions, they went in haste to Jerusalem to the Jews, and made them to cease by force and power.
24তখন যিরূশালেমস্থ ঈশ্বরের গৃহের কার্য্য নিবৃত্ত হইল; পারস্য-রাজ দারিয়াবসের রাজত্বের দ্বিতীয় বৎসর পর্য্যন্ত তাহা নিবৃত্ত থাকিল।
24Then ceased the work of the house of God which is at Jerusalem; and it ceased until the second year of the reign of Darius king of Persia.
